Treasure Chest House: There was more, but I didn't take pictures of everything. The bottom of the standup shower was mildewy nasty. Check-in isn't till four. When my daughter got there the key that was left for her didn't work. She spent 45 minutes out in the rain trying to contact somebody because everybody was gone, she finally called the sheriffs department to try and find out the owner's name and he told her to try reaching out on Facebook messenger. So she called on Facebook messenger someone answered and they gave her the emergency code to the side door so she could finally get in. All the remotes don't work on the TVs, there's a cable screwed into the back of them, but they only have antenna. Which is fine because it's a camping type experience but at least all the remotes should work so you can at least watch something when you're laying in bed at night. Dishwasher was there but never installed or hooked up and it's not mounted so when you open the door it almost falls out on you. And good luck getting a hold of anybody on the emergency line. The place could burn down and they wouldn't know till the next day. The noise cut off there is midnight so if you're trying to go to sleep at 10 PM, good luck because they allow everyone there to continue to make noise until midnight including loud music with high base, and they're allowed to ride their quads, and four wheelers around until midnight, shining their headlights into your cabin. On a high note, the property was clean. All the slides have been fixed in the kids area, but they allow people to blast their music really loud overshadowing anybody else's music, including loud music with inappropriate lyrics and language for the kids area. There was nobody walking around, asking them to change the music or turn it down to be considerate for others you just had to deal with it. For $1000 for two nights it was really unacceptable for the price. read more

We have owned four campers over 20 years and this is, by far, the worst camping and diving area we've ever stayed at across the U.S. They allow a few people to ruin it for everyone. Management has no backbone to ask a few bad apples to be respectful. Pros: Truly none Cons: Side by side trail riding took place the same weekend we were diving and staying at their campground. Management allowed a few thugs to play vulgar and explicit rap music at the highest possible volume. I counted 5 large speakers on one machine, which rattled our windows. Many campers complained about this. Nothing was done after notifying MGMT. No one wants to hear this all day and until midnight. The general rules say quiet hours are 10pm. Campground rules say midnight. When I notified MGMT of the issue they sent me a screenshot saying quiet hour don't start until midnight. Great response! It's 9pm and we're exhausted as I wrote this review, but you can't go to sleep because the music overpowers any noise cancelling machine you have. Campsites are not kept up or cleaned between campers. So much trash on our site when we arrived. Look at the picture. It's 9pm and the thugs are blasting rap music with every other word being a curse word. I don't want my children exposed to this. The place is so run down. True junk everywhere. The space beside the dive shop could be a junk yard. Piers falling through at the water. Trash floating in the water. Water clarity was extremely horrible. I've dove more clear waters in rock quarries than here. The algae is unreal. We are leaving early and cutting our trip short. Peace a quiet camping and diving turned into a rap concert with some of Florida's finest. I will be filing a dispute with my credit card company and receiving a refund. I should have adhered to all of the warning from fellow reviewers before booking our stay. read more

While the kids and friends roamed the property we chatted with the owner and he was as pleasant as can be. The water was not crystal clear but that did not detract from the experience. I had been looking around for a place to camp with my family that had some fun water activities as well as diving for me and my son. This place looked like a great option, so I did a lot of research, looked at reviews, pictures, Google Earth, etc. Here is how it went: The Good: - water is very clear and stays a constant 68 degrees, so very refreshing on a hot day - water slides, swing, diving board, and platform provide a variety of things to do in the water - you can paddle board (which we did) or rent a kayak and float on the section of the river they own - the dive shop is well stocked and provide everything you need for the dive. I didn't actually dive since my diving buddy had an ear infection, but they can rent you all you need - they sometimes have events...a rodeo was happening for two nights while we were there - the section of the water you dive in is very clear....just standing on the shore at night we could see the bottom when night divers shone their lights around - the campground has a lot of space, electric, water, fire pits, grills, picnic tables, and a bath house along with playgrounds for little kids - lots of mature trees The Not So Good: (here we go....) - don't believe any of the pictures you see online that were taken more than a year ago. The location is run-down in many places and the pictures don't tell the story - I've seen cleaner outhouses than that bath house - bath house should be cleaned every day with the amount of people there, but it was only sprayed down once during our 5 days there - bath house not regularly stocked with soap for hand washing - half of the little kid playgrounds were unsafe, torn down, or unusable - 4/7 water slides were closed/torn down/unsafe - stand alone pond that used to be a swimming area with a slide, swim platform, and boardwalk is completely shut down; no items remain; water is questionable. - you can paddle board and kayak on the river, but over half the stretch is overgrown with water plants that you will get stuck on A LOT; there is a rusty gate at the end of their property; you can get out of the water, walk a bit to another place to get on the river and continue with clear water, but the water there is shallow a lot of the time and overground from the riverbanks - garbage dumpsters overflowing - not all campsites have a grill, fire pit, and picnic table each even though it is advertised they all have them - no sewer drains for RVs or trailers - midnight quiet hours....camp hosts were some of the loudest people there - hiking trail boardwalks and bridges all gone even though the trail entrance sign remains - chain and swing used to swing from a platform into the water has no grip, is heavy, and is a little dangerous - lots of areas have loose boards over bridges or walk ways - I've probably missed something Bottom Line: The water play area was fun and my kids loved the slides, the sand, and just playing in the water. But I would only go here for the day. I would not camp here again, and I would even think twice about coming for the day unless management fixes the place up. read more

Great place to dive or swim. This place is known for the place to go for dive certifications. It is a natural spring and the water is clear. The water is cold so you might need a wet suit when diving. They have cabin type places to stay and a place to put an rv. They have rope swings and a slide at the swimming side. They have a dive shop to rent/buy dive equipment and purchase snacks. The cost for diving was $25 and they offer a military discount. Not sure of other prices because I only went to dive. If diving on the weekend, get there early cause it gets busy. read more

This place has potential but it's costly to rent their scuba gear. Also lots of young ppl running the shop. They had a manager present but wasn't helping... $26 to just dive $20 for a wet suit $1 per weight about lol so even tho we got 1 4lbs bags we got charge for $8 ... $20 for bcd. Make sure you check yours. We had no chest clasp and the latch that holds the tank was put on incorrectly $20 for the tank So all this times 2 and it's well over $200... so I'm not sure it's worth it. Have to agree with other reviews. This place might have been great back in the day, but now I would describe it as way overpriced, way overused and definitely dangerous. Let my kids jump from the platform only after I did it first. Slide and trapeze type swing? Absolutely not. They both looked like something my kids would have built in the backyard with scrap lumber, pulleys and some used cable. You have to sign a waiver prior to entering the park and the whole place looks like it's an accident waiting to happen. $43 for two adults and one child is also ridiculous and a ripoff given the shape the place is in and complete lack of staff anywhere to be seen. Save your money, get an early start and visit the state park about 6 miles down the road instead. read more

We have been coming here for at least 10 years. It has really gone down hill!! This last weekend they accused my son of some bs and called the police. The cop even thought it was ridiculous but since it was private property they charged us 500 bucks. Which they really need because the place is falling apart. The staff was rude to my family. And we're literally making accusations and trying to get another 1200 out of us at 1 point. Holmes County Police were awesome!! And thought it was an eye roll. But it was private property. I rented cabin A for the weekend. Reserved it 2 weeks in advance. Drove down that Friday and arrived around 5 or 5:30 to only find out that not only was my cabin not ready, no one could find the keys. Did not get into our cabin until after 8 pm and walked into a place that was still dirty from the previous guest. Trash, and people's wet clothes were all over the floors, the beds not remade with fresh clean linen. The one cleaning person that was there came with a wad of clean sheets later and just threw them on the couch. I have been coming for 20 years and this was by far the worst experience for accommodations. read more

If I could give this place negative stars, I would. We visited here last year and stayed in a cabin... the cabin was musty, the a/c didnt work, we didnt get a key until the 2nd day of our stay and the restrooms that the entire park uses were only cleaned 1x/day... even at full capacity (to say they were disgusting would be a compliment). Fast forward to our stay this year... we booked up a room with a private bathroom and a full kitchen. When we arrived and checked in we found the beds hadn't been made nor had the room been clean. After hauling most of our stuff up the stairs, we were told that the plumbing may not have been fixed and to hold tight until they found out. Moments later we were told that it was all good to go and that the housekeeper would be by to clean. Shannon and Ryan did a fabulous job, but were confused about the plumbing issue being fixed... low and behold, it wasn't fixed. After multiple phone calls to different people, they offered us a room at Otter Creek, then Treasure Chest... we picked Treasure Chest because of the full kitchen. Ryan and Kevin helped move all our stuff while Shannon and Amber went to clean that place. At 830, (a mere 3 1/2 hours after checking in) we were finally in a room. Later we learn that we can't lock the place up because someone had broke the sliding door lock. There is mold all over one of the showers too. We were comped the upcharge to stay in this lodging, but for 239$ a night, we cant lock up at night, or when we leave. Our only recourse is to load up our stuff, once again, and move to another location. To top off this wildly excellent adventure, we find out that their firewood is sold for 17$ a bundle... for 10 sticks (basically highway robbery, 1.70 a stick, let that sink in). This place is just horribly mismanaged and disorganized. Also, the wifi here is practically nonexistent. My husband has been diving since 1978 and says this place has 2 redeeming qualities... the tunnel to the cave and the road leading out. read more

Myself & my husband got our SCUBA certification here. The water was beautiful & crystal clear! It was a little chilly, or so I thought at the time until I dove Diveland in AL.... The fish were friendly & the scenery was beautiful. There were grills to be used & tons of stuff to do. Just make sure you bring your own spray cheese because they price gouge in the store here! I also recommend renting a cabin, because the campers are very loud with their music all through the night & first thing in the morning. I would also advise you bring shower shoes read more

Its really sad how mismanaged this beautiful spring is. The Spring itself is amazing but the employees didn't even know if they sold firewood. Bathrooms for the campsites looked like they had not been cleaned in years and had leaking pipes spraying water everywhere. There were lots of dangerous hazards and areas that were not roped off and a huge man made lake that it looks like hasn't had the pump on for several years resulting in nasty looking still water. The grass was not cut by our cabin in quite sometime, when we asked the grounds keeper he said he'd take care of it...3 days later it still wasn't cut. There was a wasp nest on the front porch. Our cabin's grill was missing and in its place was just a sharp and rusted pole that it used to be mounted to. All of the "life guards" were teenagers and just hung out in the shop while the spring itself had close to 100 people(mostly children) in it unsupervised. The area near the spring run has huge piles of cans, bottles, and trash under the stairs that lead into the water due to erosion. Many of the designs on the bottles and cans are no longer produced which speaks to how long its been sitting there unattended to. There was lots of trash including dirty diapers, food, wrappers, plastic, and cans all over the "beach" area along the spring. There is abandoned heavy equipment all over the place that was seemingly just left where it broke ages ago, one of which has its bucket arm IN the spring to stop it from sliding in. This is not the beautiful place I remember from my childhood 20 years ago. This place is in dire need of management. I'd say a change in management but I'm not sure anyone is actually managing anyone. read more

Had a great time there. The plumbing was backed up but we had a nice relaxing soak. Most hot springs don't have plumbing but when you pay (now $10 instead of $7) you expect a little extra. They've changed it so you have to sign an electronic waiver and pay and get an arm band first. It used to be the honor system but times are changing everywhere so not a surprise really. read more

We visited 7/11/21 and a member in our party got their leg sliced open through all fleshy parts. Their insides were literally spilling out. We dove the first day in the Gulf on a barge. Conditions were not very good. On this trip we spoke with several divers that suggested we try the Vortex Springs. Neither of us have ever done any freshwater diving let alone a spring. But we were game for trying something new especially since it was so highly recommended by the local divers. The average temperature of the water is about 63 degrees and the clarity is phenomenal! Everyone recommended diving in a full suit but all I had was a shorty. It does cost $20 to dive here and there's a dive shop that you can rent everything you need. I opted to try diving with my shorty. Yes it was a little cold but we managed to stay down for about an hour. It never got uncomfortable so if anyone else out there wants to try to dive in a shorty, I think you'll be okay if you have a little bit of a tolerance too cold. My buddy went with a full and said he was totally comfortable the whole time...once in the water. There are a couple of drawbacks to diving here. You have to walk a little bit to get to the entry docks. There's also an underwater playground but it's small. In other words you can see everything you want to see in about 20 minutes. Now we only went down 75 ft because we didn't have any caving gear. I believe it goes down 140 ft. No objections to diving here again. read more

My 12 year old son really enjoyed snorkeling and seeing all the fish. As a parent, I will NEVER go back. I cannot even believe we payed over $50 for my family to enter this filth. NEVER AGAIN!!! The slides, stairs, platforms, bathrooms, bridges are all run down and need major maintenance. The amount of TRASH everywhere is absolutely appalling. Dirty diapers, napkins, cups, food remanence...NOT a soul in sight cleaning or maintaining anything. Parents seems to be drinking and parting, leaving their children unattended. I cannot believe their aren't more deaths at this place with the amount of hazardous activities with no supervision. If it rains while you are there, good luck getting out. The roads are dirt and have holes everywhere. I wish I would've read the reviews before going. read more

The 3 rating is the average of the two days we went to become open-water dive certified. Open water? Wha?! you say? Our first day, we were supposed to be out in the Gulf. Unfortunately the weather was shiz, and we were rescheduled to do three of our four dives in Vortex Spring. If you look at the pictures, you'll see that it's spring of various depths, the deepest being around 45 ft before a cave that only the most skilled and trained divers can traverse. I know nothing of the camping or swimming area. I love their slogan, "clear as Gin." That is, unless you add people and a serious downpour. I thought to myself, "this is what Navy SEAL training must be like. Muddy conditions make for a mouth full of mud when you finally put your regulator in your mouth and perpetually dirty boots and gloves. The water was a ripe 68 degrees chilled, just the way my mamma likes her Bombay Sapphire. I was shivering like a spastic eel while doing my skills on the bottom. People were bumping into each other due to low visibility and skill levels. There must've been 5 or so different groups vying for platforms and cavern time this first day. Once we were finally done, peeling off my wet suit revealed water-logged skin lookin' like the underbelly of an alligator. Wasn't thrilled. Needless to say I wasn't looking forward to waking up at 6:15 to return to Vortex, though our instructor informed me that most dives happen at the crack, like when they go to the Maldives... I reminded her, "that's the Maldives" in my crankiest sleepy person voice. ;) I'm more than happy that we went back because it renewed my faith in this wonder of a spring. We were the first group there, and it was well worth it. The spring was crystal clear with carp lazily swinging along the top trying to fake shark fins. Dropping in, the 68 degrees didn't seem so cold when the water wasn't trying to hit you from all sides in and out of the water. We were able to see in the cavern and poke around a bit, of course not passed the grim reaper sign in front of the cave that was now more visible and pronounced. It was beautiful and so much more expansive than what it felt like the day before. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and were sad to leave. I can't say I'm jumping at the chance to return to Vortex Spring, but if you do head out that way, make sure to be the first ones in or on a slow day because it doesn't seem as much worth it around 4 when it turns into split pea soup. Locate the koi and what I think is three giant black carp. I hear there are eels too! Just stay off the bottom or you'll kick up the sediment. I hear the punishment is at least 40 lashes. read more

Husband and I came here to free dive and it was seriously so beautiful!!! The water was aqua and clear for the most part. We went to the diving side and it was so fun to go all the way down near the caves. The water isn't as cold as some of the other springs nearby. There were some groups of scuba divers when we first got there so the visibility was a little cloudy due to the bubbles but once they left we were having a blast! We loved the air pocket in the little box in the water, it was so cool to hang out down there. The boat under the water was fun to explore too. Hopefully with some practice we will be able to explore the caves more. I LOVE how there is a filter in the water, especially with all the rain we get. The employees in the dive shop were friendly too. The only reason why I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 was because of the price... it's a little pricey for two people. It costed us $50 to dive but I'd say it's worth it for a full day of fun! We will definitely be coming back here!! Thanks vortex! read more

Also, they don't allow negative feedback on their Facebook page so you have to really do your research to get the truth about their operation. Great spring. Crowded but expected. Campground is fun but bathrooms and bathhouse are disgusting. We stayed over the fourth of July and they had a great band. Campsites are primitive but fun! We had tent campers using our power pole so that wasn't great because it started flipping our camper breakers. Otherwise we had so much fun. Super cold water and pets allowed in campground only. Cheap to rent snorkel and fins at the dive shop so do that and that way you can use them at the nearby Morrison spring which is a MUST SEE stayed in RED 6. read more

I went here to work on my scuba diving certification. The water is freezing cold! This was one of the greatest experiences of my life. The water is crystal clear and the place is very busy. There are cabins and a shop, and it is a very common place for divers to go. I did not go to the cave, because we were instructed not to. I swung through the air like Tinkerbell on a trapeze into the water, dived off the diving board, shot off the ramped slide and I did it all amongst the kiddos. I had to wear a wetsuit the whole time because it's a cold freshwater spring but it's well worth it! Snorkeling is a blast to view the caves, fish, and plant life. My US Air Force man was a total riot and kid pulling off backflips, front flips, can openers and twists. So I gotta tell you, it's a great date to make it here and chill- literally and figuratively lol! read more

Lodges are nice but VERY expensive especially sense we could not get the tv to work because the WiFi was so bad with no instructions letting you know there isn't a remote and you have to download the app. I think for the price it could be better. If it were not $250 a night for two small bedrooms and a small bathroom living room and kitchen I wouldn't have any complaints. read more

I have to start out by saying how hilarious it is to read people here talking about how "cold" the water is. Are you kidding me? 68 is cold? That's summertime warmness in California. There are people like me who have dived in California and inland lakes and quarries where the water temps get down into the low 50's and we simply sport a 7mm wetsuit, not to mention the crazy dry suit divers in the Pacific NW and Europe. I was diving on a day where it was 65 outside with a breeze and found the 68 degree water pleasant, in fact I didn't even need a 7mm, just used a 5mm instead. Cold? Give me a break. A bunch of vacation divers posting in here. When we went, there was not a lot of people so luckily the water clarity was great. It was a really fun site to dive at and very interesting. A lot of fish and wildlife in it as well to be such a little spring. Of course, do NOT go into the cave if you are not a fully certified cave diver unless you are suicidal, then by all means please do it elsewhere as not to cause a fuss for the staff. Speaking of which, the lady running the dive shop was super friendly and accommodating, I can't say enough good things about her. The only thing I would say is that it's a bit on the pricey side, as is the annual pass which I think should be a tad bit cheaper. Otherwise, had a lot of fun here. Can't speak for the summer conditions when it gets more crowded though. read more

Reading others reviews, it sounds like Vortex Springs can turn into a bit of a party place on the weekends.... full of swimmers, drinkers, partiers... Thankfully the weekend we were there we pretty much had the place to ourselves.. maybe because we made the trip in early March and the weather is still too cool for anyone but divers? Water temperatures were around 68 degrees and although most of us were in dry suits I managed quite comfortably in a 7mm wetsuit and a hood. Amazing water clarity, the cavern was interesting and there were quite a few swim throughs and nooks and crannies you can explore. The fish are super friendly and will start to swarm around you if you sit still for a few moments on the bottom and we were even lucky enough to see a couple of fresh water eels swimming around on the bottom of the cavern towards the end of the day. Decently priced compared to some of the other springs in the area and the amenities are also well established for both overnighters and day divers. Unless your a cave diver I wouldn't recommend anything more than a day here as we found we'd adequately explored the spring after two 30 - 45 minute dives. We'll be back once we get our Cave certification to explore a little further!! read more

Me and my boyfriend came to Vortex Springs because of how much he enjoyed it in the past. Upon first glance when first driving up to the dive shop it looks like it has the potential to be a fun time. We decided we would stay overnight and we're assigned a room at the otter creek lodge in the park. Not only was it a mud pit that you could barely figure out how to get to, the outside looked like a two story building that had been condemned or should be. The inside was the same. The ceiling of our bathroom looked as pictured and definitley didn't look as if our things were secured and the upkeep inside and outside was absolutely terrible. We paid around $170 for this room and daily swimming fees of $15 per person (which are not included with the $136 room price) along with an extra fee for snorkeling. The outside of the "lodge" was covered in trash, the grills in front of it had old hotdogs and other food in and on them. The fire pits and grills also had bags full of trash thrown beside them. Along with the "lodge" the whole park grounds have the appearance of a junkyard. The grass is also unkept. I'm not a snob with hotels, cabins, etc. but this place was inexcusable. We had them refund us for the room and just counted the other fees as a loss. Highly disappointed. read more

Vortex Spring Adventures - Bathroom in room at otter creek lodge - Resorts Near Me - Ponce De Leon, Florida

Got to the spring around 9 am this Saturday. It was perfect. Sun, water, and not a lot of people. Things changed by noon. The was packed with both divers and swimmers. The swimmers, like many before me have said, were trashy and tasteless. Club music was being blasted, people were drinking alcohol, playing beer pong, grinding on each other, and saying a rash of vulgar words left and right. The "family" environment went out the door at that moment. Don't get me wrong, I like to have a good time too but when I looked around, there were a lot of kids there that were subjected to immature grown-up activites. Bathrooms were nasty. Port-o-jons. Half of them didn't have toilet paper or locks on the doors. Nonetheless, my family and I made the best of the day. The activities were fun. The water was cold but on a 100 degree day, it was welcomed. Get there early. Picnic tables go quickly. Parking is limited. read more
