If you aren't Hispanic, don't expect a greeting or to be welcomed when you come into the store. Language barrier is clear, but the energy is unwelcoming. This visit was my last time coming here, I tested the energy every visit and it's been the same every time. If you plan on coming here, ward up with active protection. And always cleanse whatever you buy.

I discovered General Wax earlier this year when I thought candle making would be a fun hobby. I brought a friend along to their North Hollywood location for what was advertised as an educational class. Unfortunately, it didn't seem like a class much at all but more like an activity. The 'instructor' claimed to sell her own candle creations, yet seemed surprisingly unknowledgeable. Our group was outspoken and asked lots of questions, but she was incredibly vague and nonchalant. When asked basic technical questions like how different fragrances react with specific waxes or how to choose the right wax for a project, she couldn't even provide clear answers. I really didn't learn much of anything at this paid class. (Fyi, I turned to YouTube!) The store itself is spacious and well organized, but be very careful with their pricing. I've found that many of their supplies are significantly marked up compared to local craft stores or Amazon. For example, I bought a digital scale here that turned out to be a non-functioning and non-reliable piece of trash. After some research, I realized they charged me three times more than better models available online. Thankfully, I was able to return it. Their fragrance selection and quality is mostly great and I do like their wax. The staff doesn't go out of their way to help but are approachable and friendly. What prompted this review today was a total lack of communication regarding their hours. I checked their website before leaving my house to ensure they were open. The only holiday closure banner on their website was for a holiday that happened months ago (labor day). After a 40-minute drive, I arrived to find the gates closed. I had to pull over and call, only to hear a recording stating they are closed for the next 10 days for holidays and inventory. It's incredibly irritating to waste that much time and gas because a business can't be bothered to update their website. Honestly, it shows that they don't really value their customers or their time.

We decided to stop in to check it out and I'm so glad we did. We were greeted immediately by Jerome, who was extremely welcoming. He told us a little bit about the store and its history. We let him know that it was our first time stopping in and wanted to see what types of items they sold. There are many, many fun items and I look forward to stopping by again to take a longer look at the great offerings that they have. I had a chance to spot a fun crystal that will be perfect to give a friend that recently opened a new business. The crystal is a selenite mini egg which is good for purification and new beginnings. There are many different crystals available, at many price points. If you are looking for some, this is a great place to shop!

The…read moreArtist uses almost a pound and a half of all natural palm wax and 2oz of essential oils in all her candles. They also burn up to 70 hours. The aroma is strong but not overpowering. And because they're made with essential oils and not from perfume, these candles are allergy friendly and won't make you sneeze. I also found that even when not burning, Supernova Candles have a really great scent throw so you don't have to always burn them to enjoy the scent. These candles are made locally, in North Hollywood, and pick up is available and so is delivery if you live close enough and ask nicely. I love love love these candles! At $15.00 each you get more than your money's worth unlike those ridiculously overpriced Yankee Candles that barely smell at all!

As I was going through the aisles, my eye caught 2 perfumes that I have purchased from them before. I was low on both perfumes and needed to replenish them. 1st one (one of my favorites) Anais/Anais by Cacharel, and the 2nd one is a beautiful black bottle by Versace, Crystal Noir. Rosie, (his wife is the sweetest and most helpful. There were other customers there that were passing out samples of their new arrivals. She sprayed few other perfumes on a blotter for me to see if I liked anything else. I did, but stuck to my 2 favorite perfumes.
