A cozy, adorable book shop that has everything you would ever expect in a used book shop. It has two cats. All I need, in life really, are sleeping cats and shelves and shelves of book. it is in a great spot within Bay View that is near coffee shops restaurants, breweries, bars, etc. I always enjoy walking into a used book store. The smell of vintage and well-loved books is a magical thing. Most of the books I picked up were reasonably price and in great condition. The owner (maybe?) was welcoming, helpful, and ready to answer questions about the shop (and cats). Such a quaint and beautiful environment to wander about and find a book (or more) that supports the community. Also, support local, independent bookshops. So much of a recommend! read more

Such a nice vibe. I love the cats and the random book selections. I've been there a total of 4-5 times in the past year. I'm slowly going back into reading so I don't go there often. But eventually I'll be back at my steady pace, and go there even more than usual. 10/10 place. read more

Absolutely positively obsessed with this gem of a book store! There are cats roaming around, as if that's not enough, they have a unique and broad selection of books! I bought an original copy of the wizard of oz and the woman working was so sweet and helpful she called the owner to ask about advice for restoring the pages for me. They also have artwork! There is just something about a used book shop with NPR on and a friendly cat roaming around that gets me. I stumbled upon this book shop several weeks ago and was very happy to spend an hour or so perusing the book shelves. The shop had a good variety of books from local authors and Wisconsin-centric literature to classics and new releases. The majority of books seemed to be in really good shape as well, which is always a plus at a used bookstore. I ended up with only one book (which is a small miracle in itself), so I'll be back to look for more! read more

Finally, a CURATED used bookshop! So often used bookstores are static month after month, and just a dump of random stuff. By contrast Voyageur is run by real book lovers who keep every shelf fresh! Each time I go I see a nice mix of classics and funky eccentricities, all nice quality, nothing that looks un-buyable. The staff love to chat about literature, know their stuff, and don't treat their clients like thieves. Rare luxuries these days. read more

Hubsy and I explored this bookshop as an anniversary adventure. The shop itself is bigger on the inside since it has a basement! Wood floors and high ceilings. One of my favorite parts was the record player up front. Great music, sets the scene well. The book selection is pretty decent. I found a number of fiction selections that tempted me! Also a couple shelves of cookbooks that I liked. I also found it funny that the romance novels were in the basement with "other fiction." I would have liked to see more poetry! Easily the BEST is the bookstore cat, Bustopher Jones. He's an orange polydactyl cat who was not overly friendly but did permit us to pet him. The owner was very kind and talked about how much he likes Milwaukee, and I'm inclined to agree. read more

Classy, pleasant neighborhood used and new bookstore with a lot of personality and literate workers. Jog east for parking, but this is a very bicycle friendly neighborhood. There are some interesting rare and collectible books, but their readable used books are what I came here for and there's an interesting variety here. I like the feeling of being in an old fashioned library and they also host some writing and reading club meetings. They named the store after the French explorers but they do have a pretty good travel literature and travel guide book section. I also like their mysteries section. read more

If you are a person who loves books, especially old books, then Voyager is right up your alley. I had no idea this place existed and stopped in on a whim after shopping at Sparrow. Well. Let me tell you, I'm mighty impressed with their overall curation especially for a smaller store. The owner (I assume) greeted me right away and asked what my interests were. I'm a classics person and I found so much to love. A full set of Voltaire? How about Tolstoy's complete works? Or a beautifully bound set of Balzac's best? I may be returning for that last one.... Today, however I left with a hard to find copy of William Shakespeare by Victor Hugo. There's a sizable collection of local history books including several vintage Bay View GS yearbooks, and plenty of young adult fiction. Prices are fair, the books are impeccably organized and most things are in good condition. Voyager goes a long way toward filling the Renaissance and Downtown Books shaped holes in my heart. read more

I dragged my husband and niece to yet another used bookshop, but they enjoyed their visit just as much as I did. Voyageur is everything I look for in a used bookstore; varied and unusual stock, well catalogued and shelved, unusual finds, spotlessly clean, and a bookstore cat! (Take a Claratin if you're allergic; he's a sweetie.) I found several titles that I wasn't necessarily looking for, and had a great nerdy chat about Doctor Who with the very nice bookseller. (This store may be a TARDIS. It's bigger on the inside.) Another bonus: Voyageur uses price tag stickers that peel off easily and leave no residue on your books! SCORE. I absolutely hate picking off price tags bit by bit and having a gummy bit on your book that never goes away. Thank you for that! If you're a book lover, a browser, a cat lover, you can't go wrong. If you could take everything that is excellent about The Strand in NYC, and boil it down into a pocket sized, refined version, and park it on KK, you would have Voyageur Book Shop. This space is a true gem - beautifully renovated, tall bookshelves, excellent lighting, and does NOT have that "basement/rotting paper" smell that makes life rough for asthma sufferers. I was impressed by the wide ranging selection as well - recent titles, and classics from 30 years ago, and seemingly the right amount of everything. The bookshelves themselves are deep, so that when you take a book down, you see there is a second row of treasures waiting to be discovered! There are contemporary titles, classics, true antiques, and kids books. There is a small second area in the basement - along with a chalkboard emblazoned with old "hobo" marks - interesting to a history nerd like me. This area was mostly non fiction with an eye-catching jumble of all sorts on a large antique table. This shop just invites exploration and curiosity. I bought four books - which should tell you that the prices were right - everything I bought was in pristine, practically untouched condition, which makes the 5.00-12.00 price range even more amazing. I would confidently buy the books here as gifts for others - they are that nice. I wish there was coffee - not a coffee shop, but a way to have a hot drink - I'd come back even more often, then! read more

Great little used book store. I could lose myself in this place for quite a while. My daughter loved the fact that the shop had a resident cat who is super friendly. Worker was very friendly and quick to make sure that you were finding what you wanted. Bummed to say that, on this trip, I didn't find anything that I "had to have" but this is one of those places that, if something does pop for you today, the next time you walk in, you will find that jewel that you have been looking for, even if you didn't know that you needed it! read more

This place is awesome. A used bookstore that isn't overwhelming. Neatly organized by genre and title, it is a pleasure to shop here. There was enough selection to keep me interested and a nice selection of books about Milwaukee and Wisconsin. Prices are reasonable and we were able to park right out front for a quarter. The owners left us alone to shop but we're ready to help if I needed them. The only thing they need is a frequent buyer card and more seating inside. This is just what Bay View needs! read more

I was happy to see a nice selection of books featuring children of color as well as several books in Spanish- they have great variety for a store of that size. Dropped in the other day and had to force myself to leave. Their selection is excellent, their knowledge of books and authors surpass my own experience. The only flaw I can see is that the high shelving is out of reach for browsing and using a ladder would not be safe. read more
