Came in with my husband while waiting for a table at La Rêve. There was an older lady working behind the counter and said nothing when we walked in. It was dead silent for a period of time before she grumbled about the Christmas books being on sale, then proceeded to loudly crunch on nuts or whatever it was she was eating. Eventually another older lady came in who she seemed to be friends with and they were talking together. My husband told me he heard the lady working tell her friend "I don't trust those guys." I looked up after this and she was glaring me down through the window between the children's room and front desk. Immediately I put down what I was considering buying and left. Never have I felt so unwelcome in a store and am still bothered by the experience hours later. Regardless of this experience, the selection of books is very poor and there are no prices listed. Are we to assume everything is MSRP? Please tell me you aren't charging $30 for the years old hardcovers on display. read more

Unique bookstore in the heart of Wauwatosa!!!! They do have a nice selection of books that you may not see at other bookstores Unfortunately the two employees didn't even notice that I walked in right in after the UPS delivery guy and they seemed very interested what was in the package. Just like Christmas I guess. Hours might be different than what is posted on the door depending on the day of the week. I like to support local stores (especially bookstores!!) so I appreciate having one nearby! I've popped in a few times for various needs. It is a smaller store so they definitely don't have everything but they have a good selection of best sellers and hot new books and quite a few books about the local area which is cool. They also have 20% off on a lot of the new ones which I was excited to see. What bumped it down to four stars for me was the last time I was in looking for board books for newborns. They have some but not a huge collection and I felt like the two people working were too engaged in a conversation amongst themselves to come help me. In general I've felt like when I go to the counter they are friendly but do not necessarily reach out in the rest of the store. read more

A gem in Tosa! I love books so maybe I'm partial to all book stores but this one is quaint and homey with just enough selection to make it interesting without being overwhelming. I really like how they blend books with other items like puzzles, gifts and even jewelry. It's a nice blend of items to keep your eyes fresh. Staff were super friendly - just what I would expect for a small town book shop. Someone who has read every book in the store so recommendations are authentic. Couldn't leave without supporting this lovely store so purchased two books. All my friends are dead. And I could chew on this - and other poems by dogs. Fun little light hearted coffee table books that will brighten a gray day or be a nice reminder to go visit this store again. Of course I probably don't need a reminder but just in case. read more

This bookstore could be so much in the heart of Wauwatosa and is sorely lacking. They are only open a couple of hours in the middle of the day. There are no activities to bring the community into the store. The selection really is not all that up to date. It makes me sad at a time when Indie bookstores are thriving in other places. I hope this will change somehow. read more

"Awww" That's the first thing I thought when I walked into Little Read Book. Not a bad AW!, but the cutest of the Awww's. This place almost reminds me of the little library back home in small-town NE where I grew up. It's comfortable. The owner was really friendly, answered all of my questions and helped me find the book I was looking for. It's not a super huge bookstore conglomerate-type place, so they don't have everything, but the selection is pretty good. They have a wide variety of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, cookbooks, etc, and even a section on Wauwatosa. Plus, if they don't have it, they'll order it for you. (there's also a nice little gift-type section with some cute trinkets and games and such) Prices are not as low as you will find on Amazon or the discount racks at Barnes, but that's not the point here. You're supporting a local business that can't survive selling hardcovers for $3.00. Lots of good feelings to be had here :) read more

Cute little bookstore with a good selection. Their prices are standard, but I especially like them because they have a whole section dedicated to local books mainly Wauwatosa and an Irish book selection. Nice little gift selection here too, I bought a gurgling pitcher for my wife. read more

Great little local book store. Both times I have been in the owner/employees have been very friendly. I like to be able to go in to a book store and not be completely overwhelmed. Both times I have gone in I didn't have a specific book I was looking for. So, I started in their recommended section, that is an additional 20% off. Found books I enjoy each time. If you are looking for something specific, just ask and they can order it for you. I don't really know what I was expecting when I popped by here but it wasn't what I got. A single customer was in the store when we came in and we were not greeted. First put off immediately, not a good impression. And the place is incredibly small and quiet. You could hear a feather hit the floor in that place. There was nothing of interest for me there and being put off by not being greeted on top of that, I certainly won't be back. read more

I tend to be an impulse buyer of books at B&N and on Amazon.com. This time I had two books in mind to give as Christmas presents. Both were recommended by multiple sources. I walked in on a busy pre-Christmas morning. One of the two employees (owners?) was working loudly on the telephone attempting to persuade a prospective customer to place an order. The other was also behind the counter and seemed distracted. Neither attempted to greet me or inquire about my search. I was open to options, but the selection seemed quite small. I was looking for a cookbook "Thanksgiving" and for a recent trends book by an author named Nate Silver. After a frustrating search of the store and consideration of other book options from the limited selection, I walked out with my cash and without ever being approached. Within a half hour, Amazon had my order. The books arrived three days later. I buy 30-50 books per year from multiple sources. If this store wants my business, then take an interest in me and stock books recommended by the national book press such as the NY Times and the Wall Street Journal. read more

Little Read Book is a fantastic independent book store. It's a cozy little shop with a surprisingly wide variety of genres, age ranges, etc. I like to gift shop there as they have a nice kids section and a selection of book related gift items. The staff is friendly and helpful. If they don't have a title in stock they'll order it and it's usually ready to pick up in a few days. read more
