We had a major water leak in our basement that was coming from our water heater. Vredevoogd plumbers came right out and were able to indentify the problem came from too much pressure from the main water line. They added a pressure relief tank and turn the heat down on the tank. They even cleaned up the mess they didn't make! These guys were so fast and professional. I can't say enough about their level of service, and speed to take care of our issue. I am unsure how Vredevoogd could rectify or improve the situation with a phone call and chat. Your employee was unwilling to even show up to verify if he could help me or not. A woman from your business called to cancel my appointment 15 minutes before it was supposed to take place. I explained in detail the I had an electric central AC and heating system and that the compressor is located on the roof of the building. I repeated explained that I do not have neighbors above or below me. My electric central AC and heating system is located in a utility room on the 2nd floor of my three story unit. The USPS insists on putting Apt 107 instead of unit 107. My address was provided to you on Monday, but nobody was concerned about my apartment like home until 15 minutes before my appointment. I do not live in an apartment like condo. My condo building is three stories high and I live in a townhouse styled condo that is three stories and an end unit. My AC compressor that is located on the roof is easily accessible to tenants and service technicians. The lack of knowledge by the woman that called to cancel, her supervisor and the technician is an internal problem and not something a conversation with me will solve. If I ran Vredevoogd I would be looking for three new qualified employees. Your employee seem to lack knowledge on very basic information about electric central AC and heating systems and AC compressor located on the roof instead of being ground level. I was without AC for three days. Thank God another company fit me in that same afternoon. They diagnosed and fixed the problem in 45 minutes. We had them come out to check out air conditioner when it wasn't cooling properly and they also looked at our furnace while here. The service person was kind however we are now realizing that the inspection they did was subpar. We've now soon after had an issue with our water heater and called another company and when they looked at the furnace to check it said it is incredibly broken and dangerously so. The components that are broken should have been spotted by vredevoogd when they looked at it and it has been leaking carbon monoxide into our home since. Although the person was kind I cannot recommend them for missing something so crucial and leaving us with a dangerous situation. read more

Plumber made it sound like a huge job to fix a pinhole leak "going to have to drain whole system" quoted $350 then completed work in less than 20 minutes.... The bill had no details explaining parts and service charges.... When I contacted company they said it was what I agreed to. I had a new gas line, furnace and AC installed by Vredevoogd about seven months ago. Last week, a gas leak was discovered where they connected the gas line to my gas meter. A MI Gas technician was called immediately to take a look. The technician had to tighten the connection, stating it it was not completely tightened when it was installed. This is very concerning for obvious safety reasons and does not give me confidence in the overall installation of the line, furnace or AC. I chose Vredevoogd for this job, thinking by paying a premium for their equipment and work, I would be buying peace of mind. To their credit, Vredevoogd sent one of their technicians because I insisted they check all the line connections to make sure there were no additional leaks. The technician was very professional, as was the initial sales person and the technicians I worked with for the installation. The technician who came to recheck everything after discovering the gas leak "bubbled" all joints and they checked out fine. But it is very concerning that the joint attaching the gas line to the meter was not initially tightened properly. I do not have confidence to recommend Vredevoogd to others. read more

As a member of Vredevoogd's "member" program, I expect prompt service. I called in May to make an appointment for my annual air conditioner checkup. They could not accommodate me until July 10th! On July 10th, 40 minutes before my appointment, a Vredevoogd representative phoned me to tell me they were too busy with emergencies to get to me that day, and couldn't reschedule me until nearly a month later, on August 7th! This is not "service," it's "disservice." Additionally, when a person takes a day off from work for an appointment, a phone call to cancel a mere 40 minutes before the appointment is not acceptable business protocol. Vredevoogd took over Carmichael's business after the owner of Carmichael retired. It's now very obvious to me that Vredevoogd is not prepared to handle the influx of new business. They made an unauthorized repair on a furnace at one of my rentals. When I called the secretary she told me they always ask the people living in the home if they are the owner or renter. Apparently they did not ask. Then she asked me to for my credit card information so they can have it on file so they can charge me directly for any future work. I never plan on using them in the future because I have my own repair crew and the repairs they made I could have done for half the cost. We recently moved to Michigan, and (right on cue...) the heat exchanger in our new-er model furnace failed on one of our first really cold days here. We were very disappointed with them and felt they tried to take advantage of us. They came out in August as part of our participation in their program to annually check our AC. The system had been working perfectly. They did their inspection and told us everything was fine. Less than 2 hours later it stopped working. When we called them back two days later they told us the blower motor was shot and it would be $1000 to fix, or we should get a whole new AC system. They claimed it wasn't their problem. We got a second opinion from Michigan Building and Mechanical who told us that it was a simple part to replace. $200 later we have a system that's working fine. Short story: I got a second opinion and found that the service technician had severely misdiagnosed the issue with my furnace. It was recommended that I buy a new furnace entirely ($4k - $5k) to solve the issue when all I needed was a new thermostat ($30). Long story: I recently had a technician come over to evaluate my heater. The technician came over during the work day so I was unable to ask questions and observe the evaluation. I was recommended by the service technician to buy a brand new furnace as my current one was old and had a crack in one of the heat exchanges. I was told this was a serious issue and that the gas and electric needed to be shut off for safety reasons. I took the technicians word for it and asked for a write up of all the issues and quotes for possible solutions. The tech advised I purchase a new furnace entirely as opposed to fixing the crack itself, which would cost around $1200 to fix. A mistake I made was not asking for a photo of the crack in the heat exchange. The tech then advised I purchase a brand new furnace system because of the severity of the issue and the age of the furnace. This service call costed $99. After relaying this info to several family members, I decided to get a second opinion from another heating/cooling company. I was home during this tech's visit and I am thankful I was. The tech showed me that there was no cracks in any of the heat exchanges. In fact, there were zero signs that the tech removed anything internally to confirm the "crack" that was claimed to be present in the furnace. After running the furnace through a few cycles the tech found that my thermostat had some previous wiring issues. We bought a new thermostat, did some rewiring, and our heat works perfect with zero issues. I would like to think that the original tech from Vredevoogd had only misdiagnosed the crack in the first place, but it wouldn't be out of the question that there was reason for the tech to lie about an issue in order to get me to purchase a new furnace. Get a second opinion if you use Vredevoogd. read more

Very polite people but don't know what they're doing. Every visit even for simple checkup requires 2 visits. 1 to check your equipment, the next visit, typically a week later, is to fix what they broke on the first visit. This has happened to me several times and I have a new home my HVAC system is new as well. read more

We got a new furnace & A/C, and they laid it on thick about the superior performance of the most expensive one they sell. The sales rep made claims that the A/C could reduce temp & humidity independently. False. We have been happy with the cooling, but our humidity this summer has consistently remained 65-72%, so our woodwork, cabinets, & doors swell & stick. Might sound petty, but you can't close the bathroom door! Once it reaches/holds at the temp you set, the dehumidification stops even with the fan running 24/7. The only way to get the humidity lower is to cool it to 60°, which is miserable. OR, after paying $22K for our furnace, A/C, & humidifiers, they suggest we buy a dehumidifier. Don't let them upsell you. Lesser units can work as well or better. read more

I've been on Vredevoogd's "pay & dollars a month and in the fall, we'll come tune up your furnace " plan for 7 years now so it seemed a good place to start. Turns out, i was wrong. never heard from them. They did however take another 7 dollars out of my account yesterday, but they are obviously, too busy to sell me a new furnace. Called Bel Aire . Hi John. I agree with Mr. Vredevoogd. His firm provides a quote for their service. I received a quote of nearly $1000 to replace the heat exchanger on my furnace. The estimate was not itemized and when I asked for an itemization, the technician told me the firm provide "forward pricing" and did not itemize repair estimates. When I pressed him for the information he told me $175 of the estimate was for a warranty processing fee from the manufacturer of the heat exchanger. I contacted the manufacturer's recommended repair firm for a quote. They had no idea what a "warranty processing fee" was, and explained the manufacturer of the heat exchanger charged no such fee. The firm I contacted was Redmon Heating & Cooling. Redmon providee an estimate nearly two thirds less than Vredevoogd, and completed the work to our satisfaction. When I shared my concern with Mr. Mike Vredevoogd via a letter, he responded with a letter. In his letter he made disparaging remarks about his competitor and failed to acknowledge my concerns. read more

Great customer service and friendly, thorough tech. Customer service with a smile does not a good heating company make, however. They could not fix my 20 yr old, Goodman furnace, whereas a second company could (and did!). The tech spent more time cutting into my furnace and inspecting the furnace's ceramic rings with a hi-tech camera to "prove" that my furnace would be unfixable than actually trying to fix the machine. I would really watch the integrity of this company and the nature of their sales pitch (it is filtered through the tech talking to his manager via text/email). I was told that I needed to replace my failing blower capacitor(??) and that it would be very bad for my furnace if I did not replace it.($99). Installers handled the installation in an excellent fashion even tho running into challenges imposed by our home. They secured more help to make sure it was done in one day. A service technician came to check on why my furnace was making noise. After inspection he told me I needed a new exhaust fan. He quoted me a price of $988. Needing the furnace fixed due to nights getting cold I agreed to have the repair done. An hour later the furnace was fixed and running fine. The technician was polite and professional. After the technician left I went online to see how much the fan motor sold for. I was shocked to find out the fan could be purchased for $160. So.....add $160 for the part and $99 for the service call we have a total of $259 which means I was charged another $729 for the installation. I realize Vredevoogd has expenses to cover such as labor charges, vehicle charges, etc to make a profit, but for me I think charging $729 for installation is a little steep. I was stupid not to get a couple of additional quotes so I can only blame myself, but if you are considering using Vredevoogd to do work for you I suggest you look elsewhere! read more
