Everything was very "period". It was quiet, clean, and easy access to restaurants in Bloomington. We bounced a dinner idea off Brian and he heartily agreed - and it was great! Left at 9:00 the next morning, refreshed and happy.

The reservation was accepted as an exception. Upon arrival, the front desk agent, Justin, refused to allow my child to check in. His supervisor, Lynn, stated that Illinois law--or possibly this specific hotel's policy--does not permit a 20-year-old to check in (this was not clearly explained). Within five minutes, we were able to secure a reservation at a nearby, higher-quality hotel, where they simply required a signed waiver, which was not an issue. I would like to see better coordination between IHG and its individual hotels, as there appeared to be no alignment or communication in this case. More importantly, rather than outright refusing a stranded traveler with a confirmed reservation, some problem-solving would have been appropriate. If a waiver solution worked at a nearby hotel, it is reasonable to ask why the same approach could not have been considered here.

One of the highlights was the complimentary breakfast each morning. There was a nice variety of options, and it was a great way to start the day without having to leave the hotel. The location is also convenient, with plenty of restaurants and shopping nearby. When you combine the clean rooms, friendly atmosphere, free breakfast, and reasonable rates, this hotel offers excellent value for the money. The amenities are ample: a pool, fitness center, basketball court, free hot breakfast, and lounge area where check in is. Self-parking is free unlike some of the other hotels a mile away. Overall, a nice place for a single person, couple, or a family. I wanted to take off one star because the floors could've been swept a little better but minor compared to the craziness I saw at the first hotel I checked in at-- that place has 3.5 stars on Yelp (how?!?!). This Marriott is leaps and bounds nicer than that so 4 stars wouldn't do this Residence Inn justice so all the stars go to them because relatively speaking, I think this one is the true chain hotel gem.
