Not trustworthy. I used to go to her and she is very condescending and belittling. She makes it seem like she's so sweet and cute but she isn't. Also she just got my mother very sick due to her desire to make more money. She told my mother she needed a root canal on a good tooth that she didn't have problems with. My mother got the root canal done and then contracted a major infection afterwards. She was sick for several weeks and in a lot of pain. She is just in the past week improving after she was given antibiotics for a few weeks. The tooth shouldn't have been touched. There wasn't a need for it but my mom is old and I guess Dr. Vu thought she could take advantage of her and make some money. I know from my own experience that she would charge me for things that weren't necessary. Seriously beware read more

I do NOT recommend Dr. Maxine Vu to anyone who values professionalism and empathy in their dentist. She may be skilled at procedural work, but she lacks the requisite social skills to make her patients feel comfortable and respected. She is rude, insensitive, and manipulative, and she does not deserve your trust or your business. I have been a loyal, respectful patient of Dr. Maxine Vu for the past four years. I went in for a routine dental check-up this week and previously had good experiences in her dental practice, so I was looking forward to another pleasant experience. However, I was deeply disappointed and offended by her lack of professionalism and empathy. Dr. Vu did a decent job with the cleaning and the examination, but she made me feel very uncomfortable throughout the appointment. She constantly asked me personal and intrusive questions about my financial situation, such as how much I earned, where I lived, and whether I still depended on my parents. She also belittled me for having difficulties paying my bill in full, due to some recent hardships that I had faced. She also tried to pressure me into agreeing to some procedures that were not fully covered by my insurance, such as x-rays and a crown. She said that they would improve my appearance and confidence, as one of my teeth was discoloring due to the death of the root/nerve, and that I should invest in myself more. She implied that I was not taking good care of my teeth and that I needed to spend more money on them. She did not explain the financial risks or specific concerns pertaining to my insurance's limited coverage or non-coverage of these procedures clearly, nor did she respect my right to decline them. I felt very insulted and humiliated by Dr. Vu's behavior. She did not treat me with dignity or respect, but rather with contempt and condescension. She made me feel like I was not worthy of her time or attention, and that I was a burden to her practice. She did not show any compassion or understanding for my situation but rather judged me harshly and unfairly. Ultimately, I was forced to stand up from the dental chair and excuse myself before the conclusion of my visit, as I could not tolerate Dr. Vu's unprovoked, poignant comments, which clearly demonstrated to me that she did not value my well-being just her ego and profits. I am sharing this experience with you because I want to warn you about Dr. Vu and her unethical practices. I also want to encourage you to find a dentist who will treat you with kindness and respect, and who will provide you with honest and transparent information about your dental health and options. I hope you will never have to go through what I went through with Dr. Vu. If you do, please know that you are not alone and that you deserve better. read more

Dr. Vu incorrectly charged me after she over filled my cavities. I went back immediately the following day to have them filed down. Fast forward and her staff charged me. It was obvious that it was incorrect and the staff member agreed and told me it would be taken care of. I had complete dental coverage and all services where paid for. Our family began the process of building our family and at this time I could not attend court dates for an amount just over $500. I also let the office staff know as she was unreachable and I was told that they could see that the charge was not accurate. I began to receive letters in the mail. As someone who just became a Mom aid couldn't just drop everything to fight this woman over $500. I figured since her practice needed to sue me over, over filled fillings they were desperate enough. Well they went through with that. Fast forward a couple of years and to be honest this was still the last thing I could care about. This woman not only received payment for work done but she charged me for work she had to fix which is illegal. My insurance obviously didn't pay for double charges. Due to the fact that I could not appear in court she won. Wahoo! Winner for Dr Vu. Welp... she/her counsel decided to place a lien on my account to take the money. The account was paid IN FULL and it is no longer my responsibility as the government took the money as well as a hefty amount for their services. Even the bank and every other person I have spoken to has said how ridiculous she is for doing such a thing. Had she have competent skills and not over filled my cavities, she would never have seen me again. Had she had competent staff who would have relayed the messages to her that it was an erroneous charge... she would also not be getting this review. Never the less... she proceeded. I spoke with her staff multiple times as well as her, her self who told me that they would take care of it. They never did. They decided to place a lien as of 9/20/18 she was paid in full as the NJ Superior Court took the money. Now she wants to know where the money went? She states she never received it. Sorry, this was your battle. You took the money, now figure out how to get it. I have no clue as she had it government removed, I didn't have the time then, and I already have spent far too long writing this. Now she is sending me letters asking me to have the funds released to her! Mam, you need to do the rest of the work on your own. Maybe perhaps next time you will hire competent staff and not only train them in appropriate billing guidelines but perhaps you yourself need a refresher. Especially in something as routine as a filling. In the time that it took your to do all of this and harass me... I had Invisalign elsewhere paid in full cash , I have had multiple visits with amazing dentist in the area who are honest and understand the importance of family and also the stresses of building a family. Compassion goes a long way. Time management and what is a battle to fight vs one that you yourself as a business owner would have realized you are fighting a loosing battle. Dr. Maxine Vu has bills to pay on her office and machines, just like any other dental office. However, she also has several LAWSUITS, so be careful, she might just use you to pay for them! Vu told me I had 3 cavities that needed to be taken care of after my cleaning. I had told her it had been awhile since a check-up. As I go to pay with the receptionist, she asks, "Wait, this is your first time?" It was, and she has the gall to charge me MORE than was quoted on the phone! Keep in mind, I had just finished college and didn't even have insurance. It was all out of pocket. I felt swindled and refused to pay the new amount, but receptionist stated they'll just keep sending the balance owed. I paid, and felt the business was shady after that... A month later, I got a groupon deal for a cleaning at a clinic that had a group of dentists. My dentist said I had NO CAVITIES! I COULD NOT BELIEVE DR. VU LIED. Glad I went with my gut and got a second opinion! Family members recommended Dr. Vu to me so I trusted her. But she must have felt she could take advantage of a young girl. A family member went back to get emergency work done since no other dentist had appointments available. Makes sense why she is so available. I work with a dentist now with whom I trust. She teaches at a dental clinic and explains each doctor has different approaches, some are more aggressive while others will monitor problem areas with check-ups. I prefer the conservative approach. Maxine Vu straight out lied, as I still don't have those cavities.... One patient told me Dr. Vu wanted to grind down his teeth then add a bridge. Second opinion advised the teeth were still good. * The two 5-star reviews come from Yelp members who don't even live in New Jersey. read more

I have TMJ problems and any dental procedure that alters my bite, even slightly, can make the joint painful -- things like fillings, crowns or bonded retainer adjustments. Dr. Vu has worked with endless patience to make sure that my bite gets readjusted after any procedure I have so that I am completely comfortable. She is known for her compassion and that is why so many patients turn to her and stay with her.
