This review is for the Lobby Lounge in the W Hotel Barcelona. We ordered a patron silver and soda and a belvedere and pineapple. Bartender pulls out bottle of each and pours and serves each of us. Mine (out of Belvedere bottle) was clearly tequila. Hers (out of Patron bottle) was clearly gin. We tell bartender who apologizes profusely and pours new drinks. Same result. We tell him that he is most likely giving us watered down alcohol in the wrong bottle. Someone screwed up bigly. He tastes our drinks and is clearly embarrassed. Gets new bottles of each and pours real drinks this time. No offer to buy us the drinks. What a terrible experience! Will not return and someone should take responsibility for stealing from the guests. Be forewarned!!!! read more

The hotel's views are spectacular. But the lounge near the rooftop is horrible. The staff are unfriendly. The bartenders let us spend over $60 for drinks without telling us they were closing in 15 minutes. When closing time arrived, a group of unfriendly and extremely rude employees started telling us to get out. We couldn't even finish our watered-down drinks. They refused our plea for just a few more minutes. When we asked why a large group of people gathered in a "VIP" section were not being asked to leave, there was no answer. Everything else went great during our visit to beautiful Barcelona except this. Due to extreme rudeness, I suggest that you avoid the W Hotel bar. I will never return and will inform friends and relatives of the W's horrible service. read more

Yikes horrid hotel. Waaay overpriced. Jaded staff with a super power of avoidance and eye rolling, want a second drink at the bar or ask a question?... forget it..asking for anything with the staff was an eye roll and bare minimum effort. We got routinely told off when going to our room at night as our elevator was the same as the nightclub, apparently we weren't dressed appropriately, young kids got pushed to the front... insulting, so we weren't allowed even as a paying guest to attend the nightclub or bar.. and had to show proof of our room to go to our room.. felt very unwelcome. The room smelled of cigarettes, we had 2 towels the whole stay, no one came and cleaned, no charging or outlets by the beds. You have to run cables from the office desk. No hooks or racks for wet towels so they have to drape on the office desk.. the shampoo and conditioner dispensers were broke, we got no water refills either. The spa was dirty and full of loud clients, not relaxing at all. The spa staff tho were very polite and kind. The only kind and helpful staff in the whole hotel. The fire restaurant was really really bad, terrible service. the waitress was rude and food was just bad. Incredibly expensive and cocktails were so bad. Avoid. Awful awful. The view is great, can't deny that.. so 1 read more

After extensive research I finally decided on the W, and man I'm so glad I did. It's just beautiful here and right on the beach. So much to do in this hotel, and it's not far from the main city center. Thank you Sofia for making this experience wonderful. It means a lot to us since we are here for a special anniversary. The W hotel is in a beautiful location. If you are not someone who is there to party do not stay on the lower beach side of the hotel. The rooms thump until 1 AM and if you are planning on sleeping you will be in trouble. If you're going to be out and not trying to sleep it is a beautiful view. It is a contemporary hotel with a very young vibe. The beach is super nice and many attractions are within walking distance. It is right next to the Gothic region with all the small streets. Plenty of great places to visit and see. read more

Stayed at this hotel in the off-season (Nov '18) and it was a perfect choice. While it is a bit far from downtown BCN, the lack of crowds made this a perfect place to start the day. The hotel itself is massive with amazing views of the ocean. The highlight of our trip--besides the suite--was the breakfast: it is expensive (almost $30/person), but it's the most insane spread of food you've seen; it powers you for the whole day ahead. The pool, sauna areas etc were all very typically "W": stylish and chic. While the weather was a bit too cold to experience the pool, we still managed to get out and grab drinks/ food by it, which, again, presents some of the best views in BCN. Cons: 1. At least a 20-minute walk from anything (Uber is $12 one-way in off-peak times). The Barceloneta metro stop is about 15 minutes away and you can take that to other tourist spots which takes about 30 minutes at the min. 2. Our sink almost never drained properly and we had to physically take out the sink cover to get anything to go down 3. The shower and bathroom design is really odd. The floor of the shower is almost flat (no idea who thought this would be a good idea), so there's often water that "spills" into the room and into the toilet area. Never ever again!! In fact, I'll never stay at a W again due to this experience. If you want to be treated like garbage, go to the W Barcelona. From the minute we checked in, I had a feeling this wasn't the place for us. Though we arrived early because our cruise ship got in Port early, the person checking us in took our information and told us our room was vacant and they were just waiting for someone to clean it. This was a 10 AM and they told us to check back at three. We went into the lounge to get something to eat. This is where all the trouble started, but not where it ended. It's a beautiful hotel from the outside. From the inside, between the people and the decorations, It's a scary place. After sitting down and ordering wraps and Coca-Cola light, I decided I wanted some water. I couldn't find my waitress, so I went to the bartender and asked him for a glass of water. He mumbled something and started spraying water out of the tap. When I told him I didn't understand what he said he had the audacity to ask me if I spoke English. He was obviously very unhappy in his work. He told me drinking water from the tap in Barcelona is very bad. That's funny because once we did get to our room, they never told us that we shouldn't attempt to sip a glass of water out of the sink. The waitresses were snooty and miserable. I think they thought they were trying out for America's top model, but they weren't. They were waitresses. And they weren't even good at that. I went to the front desk to ask if our room was ready at noon. Miraculously, it just became ready the very moment I stood up there and asked. Really??? When we got to our room on the 20th floor, we were very impressed with the view. Once we got past our excitement about that, we got to see the blood and guts of the room. The mattress was simply on the stand. No boxspring and very uncomfortable. The shower had one of those giant showerheads that emitted practically zero water.The shower and the toilet were separate but that didn't even matter because each had a frosted glass door where you could see your traveling companion sitting on the toilet, taking a shower, etc. It was very embarrassing. What a terrible set up! We thought the room was very warm at 21°C so we contacted the front desk and ask them to adjust it to 15°C because they only trust you to adjust it to 19°C. Someone came up to our room to simply look at that thermostat. When we told him we wanted it set at 15°C, he kept asking us if we were sure. Trust me, we were sure. After several missteps by them we finally got our room set to the proper temperature. What they didn't tell us is that our key card had to stay inside the key card lock inside the room in order to keep it at 15°C. Why would they have told us that? Because customer service is dead at the W Barcelona! Forget reading at night if you don't have an iPad. There is literally no lighting in this room. In fact, the entire hotel is dark including the hallways that are painted dark orange and have very little lighting. I'm sure they have security cameras but so what after something happens? There is very little speaking of English in the restaurants. Especially the breakfast room upstairs. We were treated terribly up there three days in a row and on our fourth and final day we decided to go buy breakfast instead of getting it for free. I could go on and on and on about all the awful things at the W Barcelona. Most of them revolve around service, but this hotel is definitely form over function. The rooms are not functional. God help you if you're here for work. You'll never be able to see a thing in front of you in your room. Bring a flashlight! All black clouds do have a Silverlining, and that Silverlining was named Juliette. She was a cocktail waitress in the lounge in the evenings and she was the only one at the W Barcelona who treated us like guests at a hotel. Juliette, get out of there as fast as you can. Remotely located this is a spectacular hotel. The good looking Spanish people run the lobby and concierge so courteously and efficiently. Its instinctivly W, very hip and sexy. I love the citrus water and the shiny green apples upon check in. Our room has everything imagineable. Bliss toiletry (so please pack light), slippers, robes, ear plugs, and complimentary water. I got styled at the W Barcelona. Staying on the top floor Corner Suite, I had the best view panoramic view of the water. The bed of the room overlooks the sea - I almost never wanted to leave the room. (Almost enough said) From a toiletries perspective, W always uses Bliss so no complaint there. For the suite, they provided 2 sets of full size products every day. LOVE! Yes,.. the location is a bit weird (on an "island?!") , but Barcelona is great for walking so I am not really complaining. I can imagine not all the rooms are equal at the W, but this is probably one of the few rooms that I dream about going back. DROOL.... read more

Welcome, reader, to what is now my favorite hotel in this entire beautiful world we live in. I have stayed at over 20 SPG properties worldwide now and this one takes the cake. I had late checkout (4PM) and still almost screwed that up on account that I couldn't drag myself out of that room. I have had two different rooms here. The first was a regular room which still had an ocean view. The lights and furniture give the rooms a sleek and sexy feel, I also had a suite here that offered phenomenal views of the horizon over the water and the coastline down Barceloneta beach. This corner room provides enough space to do cartwheels (which I did of course) and just screams "hotel party" on account of the damn bathtub in the living room. Travel Pro Tip 1: When there is a Bathtub in the giant livingroom of your hotel room you better take full advantage and order champagne and have it delivered to you in said tub. I think it also goes without saying that inviting girls into this tub is a must as well. The breakfast was unbelievable (Platinums, make sure you take the bfast here and not points). Just had a huge spread and plenty of made to order items too. Pool the most relaxing place ever. I got more sleep by this pool than I did in my room. The employees will set your group up with chairs or a cabana and really aim for the most comfortable experience possible. Definitely a lot of families and couples here. It is definitely a hotel made for tourists. For the first time in my life I hardly left the hotel property (other than to go clubbing of course but you can actually do that here). I hardly saw the city of Barcelona. I am not even close to mad. I felt like a god amongst men at this hotel. After several weeks of travels that involved copious raging it was nice to be pampered. I love this hotel. I have dream about this hotel. Hey W, do you guys need a new DJ for your pool parties? I would be glad to help. I have no experience at all but you would really be hooking a brother up. read more

AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME! MUST STAY!!! I have been waiting and putting off this review for so long because I just couldn't figure out how to put my experience at the W Barcelona into words. I will say that this is one of the best decisions I made on my two week vacation to Europe! If you have the opportunity to stay here I would definitely do it over ANY other hotel in Barcelona. If you are debating spending the extra money to stay here - I would say do it over and over again. There isn't one thing wrong with this hotel. From the location which makes you feel like you are out at Sea, the restaurants surrounding the base of the hotel, the beach, the live music, the pools, the views, the rooftop bar - ALL 5 STARS and more!! I am SPG Platinum 100+ but when I stayed I was only 75 nights in and I was treated as any platinum member should be. I was upgraded to a room with a GREAT view. Instead of one king bed, I took the two doubles so that I could have a better view and I do not regret it ONE bit! Also with being a guest you don't have to wait in line to get into their VERY swanky bar on the roof (there was a line). I don't know what else to say, but that the hotel is phenomenal! To put all of this into context, I travel every week for work and have stayed at W's, St. Regis, and many other hotels around the world and this is one of my favorite by far! The team there is great. The property is located in what will be the hot spot in the future.... As for now the area is still developing. Otherwise, you must take a taxi/bus to get to the city center. Other then the location the W Barcelona is beautiful, water front, and everything you expect from W establishments. In the morning, you can have breakfast in their cafe with indoor/outdoor seating available... I enjoyed starting my day on the patio with fresh air, water steps, plants all around, and very friendly staff. The bed here is my FAVORITE!!! The sheets AMAZING!!! I've stayed at other W's before but I swear this combo of the bed and the sheets are like no other. The best sleep I've gotten!! And am still trying to track down the sheets for my bed at home! I am not crazy about the room lay out but I personally enjoy more classic style rooms opposed to the modern sophisticated feel. Overall, my time at the W Barcelona was wonderful! read more

I give this place two stars. I would give it one but the customer service at the front desk was pretty bad. One time I was asking a question and the woman there was extremely rude. She was very uppity and acted like I didn't exist or what I said didn't matter. It's a super nice hotel but customer service should be as spectacular as the hotel. It should be a priority! Next time I go to Barcelona, I might try the hotel and see if I will have a better experience. This was one time with one person but if you don't have good customer service, that's not good and doesn't make for a good experience for the customer. The views are spectacular and the pool and beach club are all great. And I agree with the others that the bathrooms are a bit silly. But having stayed at a number of W's now I kinda know to expect stuff like this from them. My only complaint during my 3-day stay is that the service at the pool and beach club could have been much better. My advice, if it's your first time visiting Barcelona, is to break up your stay if possible (do a few days in a more central location or different neighborhood). At night it can be a bit annoying shuttling back and forth into town if you want to go eat at the good restaurants (cabs are reasonable however). Otherwise, if your main goal is to hang out at the hotel, and you're a fan of the W in general, this is a great choice. read more

As a SPG loyalist (lifetime platinum) with over 900 nights spent over the years at Starwood properties, I have never had a property cancel my reservations without my consent like the way this property did. If your travel plans frequently change and you are unable to accompany your guest at check-in because of said plan changes, DO NOT BOOK AT THIS PROPERTY. I had booked some nights for myself and listed my guest under my reservation in case of travel delays or plan changes so my guest can check-in under this reservation. Not only was my guest treated rudely upon check-in because I wasn't present (even though his name was under my reservation), they cancelled my original reservations and made him book under a separate reservation with a different rate. Not wanting to deal with the hassle of finding a last minute booking elsewhere, my guest obliged. I will be avoiding this property for any future travels and DO NOT recommend this property for other SPG travelers who are used to the level of service consistent with the SPG brand. read more

Service was horrible. At check in they lost my luggage and when I went to investigate were rude to me. They put it in the wrong room. Was delivered two hours later so we missed the pool. Room service food was horrible as well as at the pool. Service at the pool was slow and they were rude. In the end we hit the beach and local restaurants. For a luxury hotel this wasn't great. My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at the W Barcelona for several days,after disembarking from our Cruise at the pier nearby. The hotel makes its presence known with it's sleek façade at the end of the a barren pier. The staff was wonderful and the facilities luxurious. The view from our room was simply spectacular! The room had a feel of a cool vibe, but amazing cozy. The bed was just HEAVEN!! The waterfall shower head was just divine, even ambient lighting in the room! We actually went home and bought the pillows, it was THAT amazing!! The 'Living Room' (Lobby area) is adorn with comfortable couches through out which seemed to be the social area for the guests. Through the glass you can see the sundeck with perfectly tan Eurpoean bodies, basking in the afternoon sun, there are also cabanas where you can take and nap in the sun beds if you can not bring yourself to tear yourself away from the view. The beautiful infinity pool fixates your gaze towards the crisp blue Meditearrean waters of the Sant Sebastia Beach. If you want to feel the warm sand under your toes, you can walk down to the designated beach area in front of the hotel, there are chaise lounges and umbrellas! The W staff is at your beckon and call, just ask and you shall receive! Your stay gets your VIP access to Eclispe Lounge on the 26th floor, you can skip the lounge queue. The view from the top is amazing, the thump of the club music was a bit much for us, and it was jammed packed with young party goers, all the bartenders were friendly and rather quick in getting us drinks. You also have Michelin star rated, Bravo24 at your fingertips, which we got the chance to sample. The hotel is situated a bit of a walk from the city centre, I was a little disappointed that there wasn't a shuttle service available to cut the travel time down a bit, but there is a bus that is 1.70 € to get downtown and the stop is a short walk down the driveway. It's about a twenty minute walk, and the stroll is litered with little shops and restaurants, which didn't make the walk seem as long. If you want don't want to venture in town there are also a handful of restaurants and bars, downstairs beachside to indulge in. The W really spared no expense in making you feel like royalty. They pay very close attention to their guests wants and desires. They left us a bottle of wine, some artfully crafted chocolates and a small gift for our one year anniversary! It was a wonderful retreat and we hope to come back here soon!! This hotel just reinforces, why we are huge advocates of SPG hotels! There is a little sign at the front desk that says We HEART SPG and my husband and I couldn't agree more!! We can't wait to come back here! read more

W Hotels have a bit of a reputation. You either love the W or hate the W hotels for the pretentious attitude. I am a pretty tolerant to guy and have stayed at numerous W hotels and had positive experiences. Not here. I went out of my way to stay here. Paying 20-30Euros each way EXTRA to taxi in from the center of town. And in return - I got what: Total lack of respect as a loyal SPG lifetime platinum member with no recognition of amenities, attitude, pretentiousness, and poor customer services. Yes. I liked my room and I liked breakfast. Sure, I paid more than 30% than my colleagues. Sure I commuted an extra 20min, sure I shrugged off my horrible check in experience. But when I asked for an extra hour for checkout, and denied. I lost it. Then they told me they'll make an exception and grant me the extra hour. Oh WOW. You are going to make an exception for me? I decided right then and there to check out as soon as possible and quit the W Hotel Barcelona. In a city with so many amazing selections, you would think this hotel would want you to overlook the effort it takes to stay here and provide you with an exceptional experience. They did the opposite. I do not recommend and suggest readers evaluate their criteria closely and look for hotels that have a better reputation for providing that exceptional experience we come to expect. read more

Hotel itself - 5 stars, however I can't give 5 stars because the location is terrible. It is located in a really inconvenient place in Barcelona, not near anything interesting or any point of interest - or really anything at all- so a cab is required every time. It is right by the beach however and you have a nice view of the ocean, and I felt like I was on a cruise ship. Hotel staff are fantastic, and the hotel is absolutely beautiful, the best hotel I've ever stayed at. Rooms are spacious and beautiful. They have a sushi bar on the roof that turns into a disco at midnight, a tapas bar, a full restaurant and 24 hour room service. The full restaurant and tapas bar are good, the sushi bar I was a little disappointed with, not a full sushi restaurant you just have a few rolls to choose from, and all very expensive of course. They have a spa and an AMAZING fitness room, which is huge and almost like a full gym. Infinity pool, regular pool, no indoor heated pool unfortunately, the weather was too cold and windy to use their outdoor pools. I would recommend this hotel only to people who have already been to Barcelona and have seen most of the sights, or to people who don't care about sightseeing and just want to relax by the beach. I have never been to Barcelona, so I would've stayed in a better location, but still- this hotel is great! read more

The person who said that these rooms are soundproof is either deaf or never stayed in the Deluxe Room 206. I could hear the song that one of our neighbors chose for his wake up music. The trains rumble beneath the room all night long and the disgusting sound of water/sewage dripping from time to time is, well, disgusting. This deluxe room, 515E, faces the street with a partial view of the construction in front of an ancient site. It does include an expresso maker, as promised. This review is not for the hotel (rooms/stay etc.). It is more about the experience of visiting a luxury hotel (over multiple visits) in another country as a traveller. We decided to head to the W after some business work and the hotel was a treat: sea views, artsy decor, suited up people, loungy chairs.... We tried out the lobby bar for some expresso and coffees. Though pricey (as expected) service was prompt and the staff was courteous. It was great that most of them could speak English too.. Over the evening we decided to visit Eclipse (rooftop bar). It opens at 7pm and I hear that weekend parties there are awesome. We were there on a Friday so couldn't experience that. Anyways, the views from the top are great... If you don't have time to visit some of the high points in Barcelona, a visit to Eclipse is a must. Drinks at eclipse were potent and the staff was attentive.. We took the drinking down to the lobby bar so that we could enjoy the sea views at night. Sadly, we didn't order any food or appetizers but the experience of being at a beach side hotel and having a relaxing evening with friends was great. Downside: hotel is secluded and public transport options are limited. However, if you want to get away from the regular bustle of the city this is the place to go.... read more

This hotel is truly 5 stars hotel. It is expensive so you pay for luxury but you get luxury. We had the "fabulous room" with an amazing view. The room was very big with a low, big and comfortable bed. My favorite part was waking up and by pushing a button from my bed I could open the curtains and see the amazing view of Barcelona and the Mediterranean sea. They have great restaurants as well and great bars and the bar tenders that know how to make great martinis. For those of you that travel internationally you know that in most countries it is difficult to get a good martini. Most countries server vermouth on ice and call it a martini. Our favorite bar tender was making sure that all drinks were made to order as per customer's request. The pool is very clean and they have very nice lounge chairs and plenty of soft and big towels. The gym has new equipment, it is a vey nice size, they even have a boxing bag and an aerobics room. The spa was very nice as well. On Sundays in the summer they have this BIG pool party until 3:00AM. Some people fly in for the "Sunday" party. It is a lot of fun and the hotel guests can invite outside guests as well, the rest of party-goers would have to be on the guest list otherwise they can't attend this party. The staff is friendly and I loved the "whatever whenever" personnel instead of an old fashion concierge. My only small complain was the check in when we arrived. It took a while but the free drinks made up for it. Overall great experience at this hotel. read more

Its had A club/lounge on the 26th floor with incredible views. its about 2 miles 15min away from the 2 best nightclubs at Barcelona beach this is a party hotel and is usually always crowded but of you are saying here your keys gives you access to the lounge and pool parties. It is pricey but it is the best beach hotel in the city around shops and restaurants, nightlife, tourism, very beautiful location I do recommend but the crowds at night and the prices are a bit much read more

The location of the hotel is great as well given that it is away from the craziness of the old parts of Barcelona. For an all around experience, we stayed a few nights in the old center of the city and the last few nights at the W Hotel. We got to see it all. Attention: If you are in Barcelona to explore the older parts of the city, the location of the W will not be convenient for you. I really hate doing this, but it seems like it needs to be done for anything to be changed. The hotel in general is a great hotel. Food is great, most employees are accommodating except for a few. I've been here a week already and our party has 4 rooms, 3 WOW's and 1 whatever the largest, most expensive suite is. We've spent over 25,000. So far here on this trip alone. I walk downstairs to explain we're in a hurry and I need someone to get my laundry done, it's already separated neatly on the floor, I didn't put it in a bag or fill out form because i needed to make sure it can be done before tomorrow and how much it was going to be. Aside from paying 25. Per shirt plus 50% for "express" I agree. Then the lady at the front proceeds to tell me I need to go back upstairs and put it all in a bag and fill out the paper. I have NEVER in my life have been asked to go back upstairs and do it myself !? I explained my time constraints and she said there's nothing she can do. For over 25,000. NO ONE can go to my room and pick up my laundry because it's not in a plastic bag!? You've got to be kidding me. This is the most ridiculous shit I've ever heard. Any other hotel (which has happened twice this trip) will go and get my laundry done, especially if I'm paying triple someone's yearly salary in just one week stay. read more
