I stayed here for an overnight on my way back from Southern Spain because my flight was out of Barcelona. The room was clean, comfy, and quiet. My Marriott status did get an upgrade so that probably helped. The rooftop bar is nice if not a tad uncomfortable (well the stools we were on weren't great), but there are spectacular views there. The breakfast was just serviceable. I'm not sure how good an extended stay would be but the location is pretty great and just a block or so off one of the main drags, so you can get to dinner and things easily on foot. read more

Renaissance Barcelona Hotel Do not let the brand of a Renaissance by Marriott fool you, not a 5 star hotel, maybe 3 star. Since we were flying to Barcelona from the States, I requested an early check-in of 12 noon through the Marriott app. And as our travel date got closer, I received an email from the Manager of the hotel a week before our travel date welcoming us to the hotel and asking if there was anything that we needed. I responded asking for the early check-in and mentioned that I made a request on the app previously as well. The email reply was that they could not guarantee anything for an early check-in. As it turns out, my flight was delayed and we finally arrived at the hotel at 3pm, exhausted and ready for a quick snooze and shower. Unbelievably, my room was not ready at 3pm; therefore, my recommendation is to not stay at this hotel if you are traveling from abroad. When we did get our room, we had one towel in the room and that was it, no wash clothes, hand towels or anything else. We were not sure if this was a Spain thing with the towels. The next day we asked for towels and did receive some, but no wash clothes. Have you ever tried to wash yourself in the shower with the liquid soaps on the shower wall? After two days, we finally got wash clothes. I also wanted to provide other feedback of the hotel. Our room was very small, and after we checked out and boarded our cruise, we realized that our room on the cruise was actually bigger than our room at the Renaissance, go figure. We never actually felt like we had a working AC system, hot every night and we actually reported it and asked them to look at it. No feedback from the staff on this after it was reported. And as for our view from the room, we saw the top of another building adjacent to us. I would also mention that this does not have a pool, the picture of a pool is deceiving. As a Marriott Platinum Elite member I would have expected more, we made the best of what we had but the stay was disappointing to say the least. read more

We had two separate stays at this hotel. On the first stay, we were woken up in the middle of the night by people walking up and down the halls because the walls are paper thin. We could hear all of our neighbors' conversations. We had a hard time sleeping through the night due to the amount of noise disruption we experienced. On the final night, the hot water in the shower stopped working in the middle of the night and we were unable to shower. The front desk agent said to run the hot water in the sink to help the shower water turn hot. I kid you not, this is a supposed good hotel. Also, the suggested hack did not work and we showered in cold water. Against our better judgement, we came back for a second stay 4 days later after returning to Barcelona because we were promised a quiet room - but that promise was not met. It could be just that the rooms were so poorly built that there isn't a quiet room on the entire property. We could hear our neighbor every time they turned on the faucet or flushed the toilet. We could also hear everytime a employee went into the hallway closet to retrieve supplies. What appeared to be the air conditioning unit made a loud grinding/vibrating noise every 5-15 minutes throughout the night and prevented my wife and I from sleeping through the night. Lastly, there were moths in our room. We initially thought it wasn't a big deal and killed the first two we saw. But throughout the next day, found at least 5-6 more. Gross. Our experience here was terrible and we won't be coming back. Our 6 nights at thisproperty has been the worst to date for us of nearly any hotel we've stayed at in recent years. We expected much more from the Renaissance. read more

This is a hard one but I'll finish after review. 16 days here. Staying here as part of a group. Under construction. But looks totally new and clean. Gym is small and only has a couple machines. Breakfast is okay Will comment in that in second review. Great location only a mile or so from beach and in city center. So .... Problems with room straight away but maintenance josh was awesome. And hotel had us change rooms. In the new room and still showed some signs of recent construction but no more problems. Water drain fixed and AC works. Front desk did a good job of finding us a new room and making sure we were happy and comfortable. Have a good view of the surrounding buildings. Check in was easy but it is 3 o'clock and though we showed up early they didn't have anything for us. Had to wait till 2:30 or so but they were great and met us check our bags so we could walk around city. Will provide more pics with second review after we have been here for several days. read more

This is a solid place to stay if you're visiting Barcelona and are looking for a hotel with a good location (close to shopping and sight seeing). The staff is all very nice and attentive and the bar has some great drink and food options. Our room was in an area where there was construction outside as well as above us so i would definitely recommend inquiring about that at check in. Almost everything about this hotel is pretty much top-notch. With the exception of the start and the constant construction. When we first checked into our room, we noticed that it was quite warm, but we were assured that after 20 minutes, it would be whatever temperature we set the thermostat at, so we unpacked and started to settle in. Well, it sure is hot, so I think I'm going to take a shower. NOPE. It turns out the shower drain was plugged and, in the time it took to try to get the water warm, had completely flooded the bathroom and the hallway. It wasn't long before I discovered that the safe also was broken and so they decided to move it to a different room but it wasn't until after I had already unpacked and so I had to repack again before unpacking in my new room. Unfortunately the new room was much smaller and so things didn't quite go where they had gone before but we managed to make it work. The lobby bar is beautifully decorated and large enough to host everybody in the hotel, it seems. The upstairs rooftop bar is equally lovely. Although there's a mysterious tiny swimming pool that may be used to be a hot tub... I'm not sure I think it's off limits, though. The american style breakfast that is included with the room is not to be missed. This breakfast goes way beyond any breakfast I've ever seen in a hotel that you didn't have to pay fifty dollars for. The hotel staff are incredibly friendly, and they keep your room in tip-top shape. The navigator or concierge in the lobby has plenty of ideas and places to send you to should you get bored or hungry or need a bar or whatever you need. On a side note, the water pressure here is to die for. It's also the best water pressure I've ever had in a hotel, and it's simply amazing. The location of the hotel is also fantastic. It's right in the middle of Barcelona, and it is surrounded by bars, estaurants top-up places as well as markets salons and, of course, your cathedrals. It is a short walk away from the beach, the aquarium, the Sagrada Familia, and just about all of the essential tourist things you need to do while you're in barcelona. read more

We are Marriott Rewards members so I'm happy we found a room here because we actually had booked another hotel and I'm so happy we found this one! Where do I start? Perfect location. Walking distance to shopping, Gaudi exhibits and lots of eateries. If you're too tired to go out, stay in! Room service our first night was much needed. Slip into the fluffy bathrobe and slippers and order a pizza, salad and Bravas! A glass of wine is must too. Hotel check in was quick and friendly, added on breakfast was a plus. The buffet was wonderful with lots of savory items like rice and Bravas, and all the typical a.m. eats. Windows with a view of the bustling street is a plus. An outdoor bar is perfect for those steamy Barcelona nights, so go out the 8th floor and have some Sangria. Another option if you're too tired to go out, sit in the hotel lounge where you'll find plenty of large seating areas and a wonderful French waiter. We enjoyed some hearty tapas and vino. I'm giving the Renaissance Barcelona hotel 5 stars even if we stayed there for under 24 hours before our cruise. We didn't arrive until 1AM and the two agents there were very happy to see us and welcomed us with open arms. Check in took about 5 minutes and we're in bed 5 minutes later. The rooms are small, but very comfortable. If you're expecting a room like in the US , you will be disappointed. Be prepared. It's a 15 minute walk to the Basilica and some great cafes. Would definitely stay here again when we come back to Barcelona in the future. read more

We stayed here for two nights through our Marriott points. Had an amazing experience! Be aware - there is construction going on outside (starting around 7am and ending around 3pm). You can hear it but not loud enough to wake you up. The staff is awesome, extremely helpful and answered our many questions. Check in was quick. This location is PERFECT if you want to go sight setting. Within walking distance of everything (Las Ramblas, Gothic and Cathedral) and SHOPPING! The hotel also has a rooftop bar. The first time we went, we were greeted upon entering, seated and ignored. So we left. We came back in the evening and ordered a drink to go. The breakfast, $19, is amazing! Definitely treat yourself to this Spain-inspired breakfast buffet. Really great location. Great staff and I absolutely recommend! read more

I would like to disclose that I often stay at Marriott hotels when I travel and I was very impressed with this hotel. I received a personalized email a couple of days prior to my arrival asking when I would arrive. I had never received a welcome email before. I stayed at this Marriott for 3 nights. I was able to check in early. (12:30 pm) When I first arrived they put me in room 917. The room had a great city view. After dropping off my luggage and freshing up, I went out to explore Barcelona. When I came back to the room at 6pm, I was tired and proceeded to take a nap. I was able to hear my neighbors upstairs walking and neighbors next door using the sink. I also heard someone singing and soon realize my room was right next to the band playing on the 8th floor Terrace (I was on the 9th floor). After speaking to the front desk, they agreed to change me to a quieter room on a different floor. On the floor my room and bathroom was bigger and I had only one neighbor. I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. Great navigators for questions. I used their apple computer to buy tickets. Great assorted breakfast in the morning and decent gym. read more

We stayed in this hotel twice. Once in January of this year and the second time in April. Both times we stayed in a room with a Queen sized bed, and the room had a small outdoor patio- which is somewhat a decent size. The bathroom has this old, kind of dark green marble tile all over. It's very "old-money" style. The second time we came, our friends requested their room to have two separate beds - which actually wasn't an option that we saw when you book online. The person at the front desk was able to accommodate them for an extra $35/night. The elevators are tight. The staff is accommodating. In April, there were some nights they had live music in the lobby bar. The one thing I loved about this hotel was the location! It's literally a two block walk, about 5 mins to the center of downtown where all the shops are! And about a 6-7 min talk to one of our favorite places out there- El Nacional! The location is very ideal, as you have plenty of access to different lines of public transportation to explore the city. I could definitely see us staying here again sometime. read more

I was sitting in the hallway about 3 ft from my room when security questioned me. I was doing nothing wrong and told him I was ok. I even offered my room key. A few minutes later another hotel patron walked by and attempted to question me also. THEN the same security came BACK with the manager to question me AGAIN. It was clearly racial profiling. The manager proceeded to tell me he was not being racist because he had "friends in the states". He claimed he was trying to "figure out what was wrong" when nothing was wrong. The guy was young, and only concerned about being labeled as racist opposed to the situation that had occurred. I would not recommend spending any black dollars here. read more

This modern, classy hotel's close proximity to three of Gaudi's genius magnificent architectural masterpieces (La Pedrera, Casa Batllo & Sagrada Família) allowed us to leisurely tour them during our one-day after-cruise stopover in beautiful, vibrant Barcelona (our 2nd visit). We were greeted by Steven Marques at the front desk who was welcoming, gracious and helpful. Our room on the fifth floor is well-appointed and comfortable. Bell staff was friendly and efficient. We enjoyed our breakfast buffet. Cheerful & attentive Alvaro was superb. I'm a long time Starwood guy so we like to use points when we travel. We were in Barcelona for 4 nights and stayed here for thee of them. (The W being the other hotel). Solid hotel. Fantastic location for doing the tourist thing. A few minutes walk from Casa Milia - La Pedrera and Casa Batlló which are on Passeig de Gràcia - the fancy expensive street in Barcelona. Staff could speak English when necessary. Rooms are a bit dated and not super bug but very cool and the bed was comfortable. Unfortunately when we were there the roof top bar wasn't open yet (opens up in April). Also there are some very good restaurants a few minutes walk from the hotel and a Starbucks right around the corner. Staff can call a taxi for you in minutes if you need it. All good. Top Tip - Do not allow taxi drivers to take you to Pau Claris hotel. For some reason the taxi drivers do not know or recognize Renaissance Barcelona. But once they hear Pau Claris they take you straight to the Pau Claris hotel a couple of blocks away. Tell them it is not the Pau Claris and give them the address and have them punch it in. I just spent 3 nights here in Barcelona. This location was great - very close to a Metro stop and close to a lot of things to eat. Across the street there are a couple of great cafe's for breakfast where you can grab an espresso and sandwhich for really cheap. Also the Condis Express across the street is great to get drinks or snacks at night time. Service here was great, people were helpful. Extra waters which I love. Part of my trip I also stayed at the Circulo Gran Via in Madrid where they give you one tiny water a day and you have to request more. I loved that I got a couple every day plus extras when they turned down my room. Also the front desk was helpful for questions I had. Great location / service / reasonable prices. Worth it to spend a little extra and stay close to the heart of Barcelona. read more

This was a fantastic hotel - and the best part was its location. The Renaissance is very Americanized. It was decorated in a clean and modern decor and the rooms were wonderfully comfy. My window opened to a beautiful view of adjacent buildings and a clock tower that chimed throughout the day. I loved it. The location is great - right on the edge of barri gotic. Casa Batllo is right down the street, as are tons of great eateries and attractions along the Passeig de Gracia. My company paid for this hotel the first few nights and I wish I had stayed here for the rest of my trip. It had the best location - by far. Next time, I'll stay here again! read more

Contemporary hotel one block from a main area of Barcelona in the Eixample region. Minimalistic furniture in style and number in the room. One bed, one desk, one chair. For the two of us... one bathrobe, one bar of soap, one small bottle of water in the mini fridge. Two pillows. Asked for more pillows, never got them. Asked for more water, never got them. Ridiculously poor service here. And we are Marriott Elite members and have never seen our requests completely ignored before from a Marriott franchise. I am NOT a happy human right now! read more

Modern hotel in the heart of Barca close to Las Ramblas, Gaudí´s famous basílica de la Sagrada Familia and other masterpieces, a hop-on/hop-off pick-up point and a bunch of AMAZING restaurants (try nearby Cuitat Condal, 336 and El Boliche del Gordo Cabrera). My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights in July and overall had a wonderful experience! The check-in process took about 15 minutes. We were using Marriott points for 2 nights nights and paying for 2 nights and I was surprised that the check-in process was very manual despite me doing online check-in. Although the front desk agent was very nice at the Elite desk, it was just a long check-in. Luckily we checked in before a larger crowd checked in because if not it would have taken longer. On the upside, we were upgraded to a balcony room which didn't have much of a view or any furniture (c'mon if you have a balcony you have to at least have one chair) but it was still nice to have a balcony. The room was comfortable with probably the most comfortable European Marriott bed I had slept in weeks. The room was a little small compared to US standards but it was modern, had a decent size bathroom (despite the shower wall being a bit in an awkward spot), made minimal closet space but lots of electrical outlets. Housekeeping was really slow the days we stayed there since they didn't make our room until late (between 3-5 PM). And the day we checked out housekeeping was annoying and knocked on our day as early at 7:30 AM (really... checkout wasn't until 12!!). The internet was TERRIBLE!!! It constantly went out for long periods of time and was not reliable. I was really disappointing in the internet quality for such an international Marriott property. La Terrassa was their rooftop bar/ lounge that boasted an amazing view of the city! The bartenders were great - especially Ernesto & Jean- who made me special non-alcoholic drinks that were not on the menu since I was pregnant. One evening there was a party with a DJ, vodka promoters and a great crowd! Loved La Terrassa! Luckily Elite Gold and Platinum's get complimentary breakfast for two at their buffet which was a great way to start our day. The buffet was nothing out of this world and was just average with typical bland eggs, bread, fruit, bacon, and ability to ask for omelets and waffles. I would have not paid 24 euros per person for the breakfast but it was a great perk for my Gold status. My husband and I both speak Spanish so we communicated in Spanish most of the time. The times we did, we found the service to be more "amable" (especially with concierge and bellmen) so if you can practice your Spanish for your trip to Barcelona. Don't get me wrong, everyone at this property spoke English but we found the service (front desk and bellmen and buffet) to be better when we spoke in Spanish. The room is a bit small by US standards, but it's quite typical with European hotels in general. I have to say that the staff at the hotel are all super friendly - they go out of the way to make us feel welcomed (buffet staff is a bit hit or miss, but nothing to complain about). Morning breakfast buffet is highly recommended - great variety of cold cuts, bakery, warm dishes, fresh fruits and juice. We stayed there for 4 nights during the Christmas season, and we totally enjoyed Barcelona, partially thanks to the great experience with this hotel. This hotel was modern, comfortable, quiet at night and best of all had three different restaurants: a breakfast place, a lobby bar that doubled as a steakhouse and fancy restaurant, and lastly, La Terasa, the 8th floor Terrace with great views of Barcelona. This is in the middle of downtown, close to shops, a restaurant in every corner and right in the middle of the action! The free internet for guests was slow. The free internet for the public at the lobby was even slower. You'd have to pay up for faster speeds, which I think should come standard. read more

In the long run, everything worked out and they not only fixed our issues but bought us a drink for our troubles. Check-in was not smooth. Our arranged feather free room verified at check-in was down laden. Though housekeeping was ASAP, all we could think about after flying all night was getting in that bed. While the house keeper was there, we also found that the toilet would not flush. Then turning on the shower found that the show head was broken. Within and hour and a half all was fixed. Drinks in the lounge are served very leisurely owing to a very light staff. We would come back, it's located in a great spot and the problems we had were dealt with immediately and professionally. WIFI in rooms very slow, use it at the bar or lobby. read more
