We have LOVED our 5 years at TGS Oakbrook. I can't believe we are about to leave behind this daily…read morepart of our lives! The people at The Gardner School of Oakbrook Terrace have helped to raise our daughter to be the beautiful, smart, hilarious, creative, sweet little 5-and-a-half-year-old lady she is now. These women have changed her diapers, fed her nutritious meals, played with her, read to her, soothed her, encouraged her, loved her, taught her, shaped her, and helped her grow in every way possible. They've helped me be a better mom (& teacher, too). They've helped my husband in myriad ways as well. The teachers, administrators, and other staff are supportive and caring in all their interactions. The administrators were understanding whenever "life" happened and you needed to bend protocol to make all the things happen, whatever they might be. In our case, when our daughter was an infant, we actually pulled her out of TGS for a 6-month period because she was getting sick so often and so intensely. (Former preemie with low immune system plus she had the stereotypical childhood recurring ear infection.) When we decided we wanted to have her return, TGS welcomed us back with open arms. And...no matter what...every day during high traffic/morning drop-off/evening pick-up times, one of the administrators was there with a smiling face to greet parents and families at the front door. That meant more than it might seem on the surface. First of all, there were plenty of days where I blew into the building in quite a mood from my own long, trying school day with 100+ kids, but after I was greeted by a smiling Ms. Natalie, Ms. Jen, or Ms. Brittany and walked to my daughter's classroom, that interaction had managed to shift my focus to what kind of day my child had. Second, consistency is key with children and at TGS, it's demonstrated even in this area. Third, knowing you can count on that presence at a particular time makes it simple to plan quick verbal check-ins with TGS staff. The teachers were forever gracious about everything, including me dropping off incredibly late in the summer. :-P Enrichment teachers like Coach Janelle helped our daughter explore ballet, gymnastics, and theatre in a friendly, safe environment. We counted on Chef Nicole to prepare and serve tasty, healthy food several times a day every day & she always delivered. Most of all, we knew that daily our daughter's classroom teachers were doing absolutely amazing things, instilling in her a love of learning and an understanding of how school works... Ms. Angelika, Ms. Abbey, Ms. Tameka, Ms. Jessica, Ms. Angela, Ms. Jennifer, Ms. Cassi, Ms. Adriana, Ms. Ann, Ms. Anna, Ms. Lonnisha, Ms. Vanessa, Ms. Elyse: you are forever in our hearts. Beyond everything mentioned above, these women at TGS Oakbrook have always understood who our daughter is. That means they know what she responds well to and what she needs in order to feel safe, loved, & happy. It also means they knew what gaps needed to be filled and what she needed to work on. So at TGS, she has learned soooo much about how to be brave, to write, to play with friends (or to play alone when she's not feeling it!), to wash your hands at all the right times, to listen when others speak, ... Because of TGS Oakbrook and the women who work there, my daughter will walk into kindergarten at our neighborhood school the most prepared she could possibly be. And for that, we are forever grateful.

Our son started at The Gardner School around 1.5 and is still there 2 years later. During these 2 years, he has had caring / passionate teachers who have taught him countless things in fun and exciting ways. He has made many friends and gotten to experience extracurricular activities (basketball, karate, music class, etc.) throughout the year. During the summer, children not only continue learning, but are treated to ice cream trucks, petting zoos and more! If you are in search of a daycare, do not hesitate to visit The Gardner School Oak Brook!

I am compelled to write this because, when one searches for this lovely school online, a very misrepresentative review pops up. Such review claims, among other things: "Scapies and dusty bunnies gross." I could pick that apart, but so can you, and I assure you that there are neither "scapies" nor scabies at MCA. I haven't seen dust bunnies at MCA, but dust bunnies happen to the best of us from time to time. There are often some pretty cute bunnies in the playground and the nearby woods, but they do not appear to be dusty. The review claims, "The equipment and building is old and inside smells musty and moldy all the time." The building is in fact old - it is from back when things were built to last - not to be torn down in a year or so and hastily redeveloped as something else to be torn down in a year or so, in an ever-repeating cycle. Old buildings smell much better than new buildings and (absent flat roofs or inappropriately installed A/C) are less prone to mold. I have never smelled mold at MCA, and I would if it were there. The reviewer claims to have "[observed] not enough staff to toddlers ratio." If any daycare were to have an improper ratio, it would not remain open - let alone open for many decades, as MCA has been. Illinois checks such things, unannounced, on a regular basis, and enforces the ratio requirements. MCA is a hidden gem. There are not many online reviews of MCA because those who know about it want to be sure that there is room there for their children, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, etc., and for those of their friends. The wait-list can be rather long at times, understandably. There is nothing else like it in the area. Because I hate for that negative and misrepresentative review to be the review that pops up when one searches for MCA, I break the unspoken rule and publish this.

The education is good and your children will be reading by Kindergarten at a second grade level. Parents are expected to do laundry and bring in food on top of the high price tuition. They call it a sharing basket. They also are terrible working with working parents schedules. They expect parents to adjust work schedules all the time for various reasons and pick up kids at a moments notice. The staff was once good but a lot of good people left due to the Obamacare health insurance. Now there a lot of young people working there with a lack of experience with children. I observed improper handling of babies and not enough staff to toddlers ratio.

Today, I watched with immense pride as my 5-year-old stood in front of a room full of parents, children, and teachers to deliver a confident, three-minute presentation on "Castles" -- a topic they researched, wrote about, and presented entirely on their own. This moment perfectly captured the kind of growth MCC fosters -- not just academically, but socially and emotionally. Under the steady guidance of Ms. Rocio and the dedicated MCC team, our child has transformed from a shy, curious preschooler into a self-assured, articulate learner. MCC adheres closely to the Montessori method, and while the environment of independent exploration may take a little adjustment at first, the results are extraordinary. Over time, the children develop deep concentration, intrinsic motivation, and a love of learning. I've seen my child confidently use words like ruminate, tenacious, and paroxysm in writing and conversation. They've explored the life cycle of a moth, practiced addition and multiplication, and developed a genuine enthusiasm for knowledge. Beyond academics, MCC creates a nurturing and joyful community. From field trips and holiday celebrations to visits from local business leaders and sweet traditions like sending postcards to grandparents, the school experience is rich, well-rounded, and deeply personal. The bonds between the students are strong -- they support each other like siblings, and that emotional intelligence translates into real-world confidence. This also extends among the MCC families as well! (Shout out to the PTO and the MNO/DNO activities!) If you're seeking a school that invests deeply in your child's development -- academically, socially, and emotionally -- and a place where your family can plant lasting roots, look no further. Montessori Children's Community is a place where children truly flourish in ways you can't even imagine.

We would not be able to pursue our professional callings while also fulfilling our high standards for family life and child upbringing if we did not have such a trusted support system and partner in place. We not only see MCC as partners in raising our children (they are a great force for instilling positive behaviors and perspectives and growing the individual), but we also learn so much from Ms. Rocio and her staff. They have opened our eyes to a great way to co-exist with children that gives them the guidance they require but in a way that is peaceful, enjoyable, and just plain sensible. We especially value MCC's Parent Education Nights and Parent-Teacher Conferences, which give us new insight every time. The kids have pretty much always been happy to be dropped off at school, which is pretty amazing, and they are growing into amazing little humans. Moreover, MCC's community is larger than the classroom--we love that we really know and spend time with the other families and even teachers; when the kids are brought to school, it feels more like they are off to spend time with their loving extended family, a comforting effect for both us and them.

First, they have two accreditations for their teaching curriculum and testing. Awesome. Secondly, they have an awesome open area motor skill area inside! It is great to know even during winters they have the room to tumble and play. Third, they have a huge kitchen with a cook who makes everything there the day of. They have a ton of field trips and exciting activities. In fact, I am trying to take off a morning of work to be a chaperone for their "Rainforest Cafe" field trip. My an loves this place and the security is awesome. No one can enter unless you ring in on the video phone. Sweet and safe. The only reason I am giving it one less than 5 stars is because uveal ready noticed there may be issues with challenging students who are a little ahead. This is important to see where the needs are. I understand they keep costs lower by only doing toddlers to kindergarten but the fewer teachers still need to see where certain students may need more. For the price, it is by far fantastic and I highly recommend it.
