The people at The Gardner School of Oakbrook Terrace have helped to raise our daughter to be the beautiful, smart, hilarious, creative, sweet little 5-and-a-half-year-old lady she is now. These women have changed her diapers, fed her nutritious meals, played with her, read to her, soothed her, encouraged her, loved her, taught her, shaped her, and helped her grow in every way possible. They've helped me be a better mom (& teacher, too). They've helped my husband in myriad ways as well. The teachers, administrators, and other staff are supportive and caring in all their interactions. The administrators were understanding whenever "life" happened and you needed to bend protocol to make all the things happen, whatever they might be. In our case, when our daughter was an infant, we actually pulled her out of TGS for a 6-month period because she was getting sick so often and so intensely. (Former preemie with low immune system plus she had the stereotypical childhood recurring ear infection.) When we decided we wanted to have her return, TGS welcomed us back with open arms. And...no matter what...every day during high traffic/morning drop-off/evening pick-up times, one of the administrators was there with a smiling face to greet parents and families at the front door. That meant more than it might seem on the surface. First of all, there were plenty of days where I blew into the building in quite a mood from my own long, trying school day with 100+ kids, but after I was greeted by a smiling Ms. Natalie, Ms. Jen, or Ms. Brittany and walked to my daughter's classroom, that interaction had managed to shift my focus to what kind of day my child had. Second, consistency is key with children and at TGS, it's demonstrated even in this area. Third, knowing you can count on that presence at a particular time makes it simple to plan quick verbal check-ins with TGS staff. The teachers were forever gracious about everything, including me dropping off incredibly late in the summer. :-P Enrichment teachers like Coach Janelle helped our daughter explore ballet, gymnastics, and theatre in a friendly, safe environment. We counted on Chef Nicole to prepare and serve tasty, healthy food several times a day every day & she always delivered. Most of all, we knew that daily our daughter's classroom teachers were doing absolutely amazing things, instilling in her a love of learning and an understanding of how school works... Ms. Angelika, Ms. Abbey, Ms. Tameka, Ms. Jessica, Ms. Angela, Ms. Jennifer, Ms. Cassi, Ms. Adriana, Ms. Ann, Ms. Anna, Ms. Lonnisha, Ms. Vanessa, Ms. Elyse: you are forever in our hearts. Beyond everything mentioned above, these women at TGS Oakbrook have always understood who our daughter is. That means they know what she responds well to and what she needs in order to feel safe, loved, & happy. It also means they knew what gaps needed to be filled and what she needed to work on. So at TGS, she has learned soooo much about how to be brave, to write, to play with friends (or to play alone when she's not feeling it!), to wash your hands at all the right times, to listen when others speak, ... Because of TGS Oakbrook and the women who work there, my daughter will walk into kindergarten at our neighborhood school the most prepared she could possibly be. And for that, we are forever grateful.

Our son started at The Gardner School around 1.5 and is still there 2 years later. During these 2 years, he has had caring / passionate teachers who have taught him countless things in fun and exciting ways. He has made many friends and gotten to experience extracurricular activities (basketball, karate, music class, etc.) throughout the year. During the summer, children not only continue learning, but are treated to ice cream trucks, petting zoos and more! If you are in search of a daycare, do not hesitate to visit The Gardner School Oak Brook!

If it weren't for the life support he received during the week he spent in a pediatric ICU, he would have died. We didn't know what we were doing in terms of picking out a daycare. There were several baby swings and chairs in the infant room at Crème de la Crème, which should have been a major "no go" sign, but we did not know. There was only one teacher assigned to the infant room. Another "no go" sign, but we did not know. We really liked that teacher, though, and let's face it - all of the other daycares had wait lists of ~6-12 months. Crème de la Crème had no waitlist - we thought we were in luck (although that is not how it panned out), so we signed him up for Crème de la Crème. The problem is that each day, in the mid-afternoon, all babies in the infant room were moved into a "catch all" room with ALL OF THE OTHER KIDS (possibly including kids in the after-school program - I am not sure about that, though - might have been only the daycare kids). So our son caught RSV, norovirus, enterovirus, and maybe a few other things ALL AT ONCE. That is too much for a 6-month old to handle and he would have died were it not for the excellent pediatric ICU in Naperville. He still wheezes and we need to have albuterol on hand at all times. The doctors predict that the resulting lung damage will last for many years. We obviously did not send him back to Crème de la Crème when he got out of the hospital. All of this occurred years ago, before the pandemic, and it could be that Crème de la Crème no longer puts the infants into the "catch all" room. Please dig into this with Crème de la Crème before sending an infant there. More to consider: We never spoke of Crème de la Crème with that child. When I was pregnant with our second, I asked our first if there was anything we did during his first years that he liked and we should be sure to do with our second child. He said, "No" - gotta love kids.... I then asked him if there was anything we did wrong that we should be sure not to do again. He said, emphatically, "Do not send him to that school where they just put you in a chair all day!" His experience at Crème de la Crème was so bad that he remembered it years later, even though he attended only from 4-6 months of age. Later I came across a picture of him (in a chair, of course) at Crème de la Crème. I showed it to him. He confirmed that it was the "bad" school, and asked why the "big kids who would run by and kick him" were not in the photo. We did know that something was wrong while the child was attending Crème de la Crème. Each day, he was dead behind the eyes when we picked him up. It took about an hour of interacting with him for him to start communicating with us again (by smiling, etc. - he typically had a ready smile at that age). We were already trying to get him into a different daycare when he fell ill. This is a much-delayed PSA. I should have written it years ago, but I really did not want to relive it. I don't want other babies to suffer, though, so here it is. My son's experience was not due to a single teacher, or even a group of teachers, who might have been replaced since then. It happened because the infants were thrown into a room with all the other kids mid-afternoon, to stay until picked up - as late as 6:30 pm. That is hours and hours of exposure to illness and abuse from the older kids, evidently with inadequate supervision. Edited to add: I appreciate the response from Crème de la Crème. I will call when I have the time to do so. My husband and I have very time-consuming jobs, hence the need for daycare. I also need to build up the mental strength to withstand another psychological re-living of the near death of our first child at 6 months of age. Writing the above review was traumatic enough. I swear that it is all true, that I have provided in the review all of the information that seems to be pertinent (other than perhaps the name of the teacher in the infant room at the time, but I do not believe that she was the direct cause of any of the negative experiences detailed in the review), and that my only nexus with Crème de la Crème was the ~2 months that my son was enrolled there.
