Guy I spoke to was not at all helpful (seemed unwilling to help at all, in fact), proposed solutions that were completely off the mark like suggesting I use 9mm bolts as though you can get that off a shelf, and then telling me it would take 3 hours at $94 a hour. I'm keeping it short, but it was such a waste of time, I left wondering how he still had his fingers. Found a guy on CL who did the job in one hour perfectly and charged me $50.

He is a knowledgeable machinist and was able to conclude how the surface was previously prepped by looking at the surface finish. He didn't cut corners and double checked his actions prior to making the first pass on the cylinder head. Upon completion, he also took the time / effort to blow all the shavings out, something he could have easily chose not to do. I'm not saying J&M is better than anybody out there, but my experience at this machine shop was a positive one.

I had him press on new pistons onto some rods (he did it the correct way using a rod heater and not a press), and check the head on my Jeep 4.0. He found it was warped and needed a valve job. Despite the extra work, he had it done very quickly so I could continue with my engine project. He gave me advice on measuring my cylinder bores, and even offered to calibrate my bore gauge if I wasn't able to borrow a micrometer. Prices were very fair. I got the Jeep back up and running, and everything is working very well! I definitely recommend him for any engine machine work you need.
