Attended an early Christmas dinner here for work. The waitress was great for a table of 14 guests. The drinks came out quickly, but appetizers took a long time. Once the appetizers arrived, they were all very good. We had a variety. Food also took a long time, but I will say they were very busy. Once the food came out, everything was good. I had a filet, medium, with asparagus and a house salad. The house dressing had great flavor. The steak was overcooked, but had a nice flavor to it, just a little dry. Decided to try this restaurant for my bday dinner. I didn't know what to expect after hearing there were horses there. It was pretty amazing. The environment of the house was very nice. Upscale white table clothes. The waitstaff was very busy but also attentive. Having a gluten free person, we asked many questions about food options. She was very helpful on getting us the best options. The martinis were great. Once the food started rolling out of the kitchen, we were very impressed. The wings and crab stuffed shrimp for apps were very good. We all had different salads before our meals. The wedge salad was huge even at a half order. The steaks were perfect, the shrimp was amazing, and the chicken Jerusalem was out of this world! All the sides from the Brussels, asparagus, potatoes and fries were all delicious. We have spent more money on food that was not this delicious. Highly recommend we will be back! read more

While the food was okay I can not say that it is worth the price. The green beans were real good. We ordered at 720 and didn't get our appetizer until 750, drinks came at 755. Our salads & meals took an hour. The worst thing was that one of our meals wasn't available and they didn't tell us for 30 minutes nor did they offer the menu to choose something else, the server just offered a different ravioli that was not on the menu which was bland and smothered in a tomato based sauce. The Ahi Tuna was okay, but for some reason there was a piece of raw beef under the mashed potatoes. The ribeye was okay, more fat and gristle than I expected but the flavor was good. When we finished our meals we were offered the check instead of asked if we would like desert. They also turned out the lights up front just after 9pm.. when their own website says that they don't close until 10pm. read more

The best restaurant in southern Illinois. The wedge salad exceeds expectations; the maple glazed salmon melts in your mouth. The Martinis are deliciously perfect and the wine list is generous; the desserts are To. Die. For. The wait staff is conscientious without hovering; the ambience is delightful. My parents and I celebrated their 26th Anniversary this past week at W. There are absolutely no complaints here! It was very peaceful and relaxing and the service was unbelievably personal and friendly. Customer service was the epitome of what a locally-owned, small business should be! The food was excellent as well. We enjoyed the bruschetta and smoked salmon appetizers which were of good portion. Even the salads before the meal were great--especially the sweet onion dressing on the house salad! We loved our mains as well: the salmon, chicken Jerusalem, and halibut (probably only place in Southern IL you can get that fish!). Then for dessert, we shared the New York Cheesecake, Kahlua pie, and creme brûlée, all of which were once again spot-on. Pretty impressive for such a small kitchen. We were recommend by my son who is picky. A group of us came for valentines dinner. Ribeye with lobster. Ahi tuna. Maple salmon. Crem brûlée, and other deserts were tasty. Great atmosphere. Heating system used space heaters in our private room. That could be an issue. John was our waiter. Good service, friendly. Remembers my son and grandson. Food was good. Asparagus wasn't the best. Lobster was tasty. Watching barrel races in the summer would be fun. We all agreed to come back again! read more

Stopped by this last weekend for a steak, heard they could cook a mean one here from my buddies... don't know where they heard that because my medium rare ribeye came out almost well done and my wife's pasta was cold. That's probably why it took my wife and I almost 45 minutes to get our food. Definitely will not be returning. read more

I've eaten at the W a few times in the past and found the food to be really good. Ordered the special, the Steak Oscar, last night and that was not my experience. I told the server I wanted it only slightly pink at most, and not pink all the way through. He said he put the order in for medium to medium well done. When it arrived it was beautifully plated, but too pink for my taste. He returned it and after several minutes brought it back, telling me that neither he nor the chef saw pink, but the chef put it back on to cook for another minute. I don't know what was done for that minute, but the steak was not hot, and the sides were slightly warm at best. And, the steak was still pink all the way through...no change at all. I ate the part of the steak that was cooked, and asked for a box for the remainder - told him it was not, as cooked, edible for me. The server then said, "oh, yes I see that it's really pink, I'm sorry." The dish was lovely, and crab topping on the steak was very good, but for $42 I got a poorly cooked, luke-warm steak, 3 speaks of cold asparagus, and tepid mashed potatoes. It's not the server's fault, he was kind and knowledgeable, but there was also no manager to investigate complaints about the meal. Very disappointing. read more

Visited today for Mother's Day. No menu items were available. Buffet was theoretically a fine option, except they were out of almost everything by 12:30 when we arrived. There were signs for roast pork, lasagna, prime rib. Those were all gone except for a couple of fat scraps at the prime rib station. Quite a disappointment. read more

We were excited to try this restaurant. Unfortunately, we were disappointed with our experience. We waited over an hour and 15 minutes for food and at one point we're told "5 more minutes" which turned into at least 10. We had to wait on drinks because "they were out of clean cups". They had to wrap my steak in foil because "they were out of boxes". They brought the ticket without a receipt book because "they were out of books". We weren't offered a discount for any of the delays or inconveniences. The waitress was very nice and the food tasted decent but we were shocked at the prices and our experience wasn't worth what we got. Disappointed all the way around. read more

Location and building were quaint. This is someplace you have to decide you're going to go, you will not to stumble upon it. The food was OK, but not great. Good ambience and the staff was friendly enough. That said, the knowledge of the staff was less than I would've expected for a place like this with this type of price point. If you're going to have booze for which you're going to charge double digits by the ounce, the staff should be aware of it, be able to talk about it and answer questions concerning kinds and types. As well, servers should be able to differentiate between a stout and an IPA. Same with the individual dishes. Again, with this type of price point, I would expect the staff to be able to describe the individual dish and how it's served. I would prefer to pay a bit more and have the above mentioned. There was more time between server visits than I would have expected. After dinner, we ordered coffee and it was brought out in a lovely clear glass mug, but it was cold and old. I will go back because anyone can have an off night and I would suggest you try it if you're looking for different place to go. read more

Visited on a Friday night as heard that they had music. We had reservations and were seated right away. It was very loud as there were quite a few big parties. Waited a long time for menus as was told they were all being used, finally got the drink orders and ordered appetizers. We got the appetizer about 25 minute after we ordered them and had to ask the waiter about them. The shrimp was good but the calamari was cold. We order our entrée at the same time as the appetizer as we thought it might take a while. Boy were we right - 2 hours after setting our foot in the door and we finally got our meal. At no time did the waiter come up to apologize and only said anything after we asked where our food was. The food was delivered only after the owner was made aware. Evidently on nights they have music they don't have enough help and the kitchen is too small to handle the load. We were given some free drinks but it didn't make up for the night. We still spent a lot of money and the food was just fair. It was so late by the time we got our meal that we just left after we paid the bill no music. read more
