My wife has been receiving Physical Therapy from Walter VanCura, and his staff for the last 3…read moremonths after having a total knee replacement. I can tell you that they have been extremely professional, and super friendly. His "entire" staff beginning with Walter himself with Jen, Christine, David, Lauren, Kirsten, and Amanda (I hope they forgive me if I left anyone out) have made her PT experience as pleasant as possible while doing the tough work of helping her to improve with each visit. All I can say is that if you should ever find that you are in need of Physical Therapy this is the place to go.

I went to Leisure Physical Therapy for treatment after a distal radial wrist fracture. The first few sessions were competent at best, albeit as I discovered later, the evaluation process was less than scientific. Subsequent sessions were routine, amounting to basically heat application and hand strengthening exercises, which I could do myself. There were a few other activities that involved using the organization's equipment, again mostly done independently of a therapist's help. After 4-5 sessions I decided to seek treatment elsewhere and went to St. Charles Rehab, which actually accepted my insurance and as I discovered in the first session, did a comprehensive assessment of injured wrist/hand in terms of strength, range of motion, etc using a variety of tools, and carefully documented results, including progress notes and updates in each subsequent session. The occupational therapist who worked with me at St. Charles was extremely professional, conscientious and clearly invested in my progress to as close to being fully functional as possible. None of this was done at Leisure Physical Therapy, which operated more like an assisted fitness center for seniors ( one size fits all approach) than a professional medical facility. Really very disappointing experience and would not recommend. On a side note the OT at St Charles Rehab was exceptional in another respect. The therapist treated me like an individual, intelligent person, not some incapacitated, "senior citizen" who couldn't think or articulate their own thoughts clearly. Although I am only 64 years old and easily more articulate than people a third my age, my experience of "senior" medical care facilities or any medical facility's treatment of seniors is that office as well as professional staff are frequently condescending, short, dismissive, even rude. The people working at these practices have no business being in the business of patient care.

It went like this: Me: "Hello I was wondering how much an ear candling session is?" Kathy: "Its 50 dollars and lasts about an hour" Me: "ok thats great; and its both ears I assume right?" Kathy: "yes" Me: "and I was wondering what kind of cones do you use there"? *****a few seconds of silence*** Karen: "Did you want to book an appointment?" Me: "perhaps but I just had a few questions fir.. **interrupts** Karen: "We use regular paraffin herbal infused ear cones" (she sounds annoyed so I skip the other question I had) (at this point her cold way of speaking told me I am not going here) Me: What is your name ma'am? Karen: Karen. Me: Do you perform treatments Karen? Karen: Yes I said thank you for your time and hung up. My mother and aunt are both massage therapists and I have worked in spas and salons in the past. This is literally the opposite of how to grow a client base. Please...somebody tell me I am wrong and the place is wonderful...Maybe there are nice calming personalities there? Otherwise my search continues because I felt stress just from trying to book at this place. I go out of my way to make sure people are comfortable and all questions are answered in my field of work. It is just basic manners let alone the fact that there is competition who will, if you will not.
