grilled cheese, ham, and hash browns

One of me and my husbands favorite places to eat breakfast food any time of the day! My go to meal is always the All star special, with a pecan and brown sugar waffle!!! So delicious!! This time I chose the Texas Cheesesteak Melt with hash browns!! We always order to go because it's normally super crowded, by the way!!

While visiting Alabama I quickly realized that Waffle House is a southern staple. There wasn't a major street you turned down that didn't have a WH glistening with all its delicious might. And let me tell you, it was surely worth a visit. Service is glorious here! The waitresses serve you from behind a large counter that spreads across all booths. Our waitress was plenty friendly and was even economical suggesting ways we could take advantage of the many specials while still getting everything our little heart desired. I settle upon a waffle, some eggs and hash browns. This place is big on the pork so they didn't have chicken sausage but I was full off what I ordered. The waffle, possibly the best part of the meal was super buttery, thin enough to infuse wonderfully with the syrup without getting too soggy, and of course more than enough to devour. You can order the waffle with all types of options, pecans/strawberries etc., but the plain Jane waffle was yummy enough without all the extras. Hash browns can be ordered the same way with a variety of toppings but I choose to get those as is and they were amazing, nice level of salt and crispiness! You can't really mess up eggs and WH didn't disappoint! Above all else the food is super affordable. Certainly a must try if you are visiting and a great place to take tourist. There were quite a bit of patrons so I am sure it's fairly popular for the locals.

Pros: Its Waffle House. Decent drunk people food. Our waitress was awesome and very professional and accommodating. The booths are bigger than most and there is tons of space to sit at the counter and very clean. Strong coffee with hairy legs. Cons: There were tons of employees standing around doing nothing other than expressing common teen angst. The ones were working were working very hard. Most were taking up counter space eating and hooping and yelling where even our waitress had to tap them on the shoulder to reel them in. I ordered Steak and Eggs where the eggs sat on the grill long and came out in a solid lump and the steak was cold and raw in the middle and had to be sent back. When our waitress brought it back she did make sure it was edible this time. Conclusion: Be drunk first. It will help. Otherwise, just get the coffee and sit in the back.

Because of the intense Alabama heat, we chose to sit inside, though they have a really nice screened-in patio available. The restaurant is intimate but well laid out, featuring a couple of distinct dining areas and a bar. Since it was our first time, our server, Daniella, recommended the candied bacon bombs to start. They came with a side of cheese curds, and both were absolutely delicious. Even as small as the curds were, they had a perfect cheese pull! For our mains, I ordered the cowboy burger with an added egg and a side of sweet potato fries, while my son chose the shrimp and grits. My burger was incredible, a solid 9.5 out of 10. My son rated his shrimp and grits a 7, though he has a lot of experience with that dish to compare it to. Daniella provided fantastic service, checking in at just the right times without hovering. I later realized I forgot to ask if they do anything special for birthdays, but honestly, my son was probably glad I forgot! Overall, it was a great meal, excellent service, and a very cool environment.

Cheese with turnip greens and smoked sausage. Yum! The candied bacon bombs were delicious too. The appetizers were enough to get me full but to go I ordered the buffalo chicken wrap and my friend ordered the blackened chicken pasta. She said it was tasty but it needed more sauce. Overall this place was a 10/10. Lively with great staff really makes this place a gem. I will definitely be back.

Well, in my mind they have been replaced by Home Plate Diner. Yeah it lacks the ambiance and the entree selections are fewer but the food is great, the portions are large, the price is right, the place is clean and the parking plentiful. Their website tells you by day what entrees they have. I you have your heart set on one don't come late because they may run out. They are closed Saturday but on Sunday they carve some great roast beef. My favorite is the turkey and dressing which always has just the right amount of sage. The Salsbury Steak and the baked chicken are more moist and flavorful than Nikkis. The veggies are cooked like grandma made them and served in large enough quantities that I just get two here. Service is great, the place can get packed at lunch time even though it is rather large. OK, some people think of a school cafateria look and notice the evening crowd is more senior but this olace has serious good food. Why just four stars? Well I couldn't give 4.5. The deduction is centered on one item. The rolls are smaller and denser than the one's at Nikki's.

Staff is always friendly and will make sure you are taken care of when you arrive with the food of your choice or a cold beverage. We enjoy visiting each and every time. The location for us is nearby so we can round up the local neighbors and drop by to watch the different sports on TV or enjoy the weekly Trivia contest. The food menu is typical for a sports bar but is always served hot and fresh and the weekly specials are always interesting to try. Stop by sometime and give them a try.

It looked like only two waitresses were working, so it took a while for our order to be taken. We also did not realize we had to order at the bar. The food came out very quickly once we ordered. Surprisingly and happily quick. We had the burger and the buffalo chicken sandwich. The fries that came with the burger were actually really good. Very well-seasoned. The food overall was decent. The restaurant has a casual, no-frills vibe. It feels more like a neighborhood bar than a full restaurant. There are TVs playing sports. If you are looking for something relaxed and familiar, this place gives off that laid-back, down the street feel. A spot to grab something decent, enjoy some music, and head back home.
