Trust the Japanese to come up with touch-screen ordering. At first its a novelty, but then you realise just how efficient the whole process is. There is no waiting around for a waitress/waiter to come serve you, or any chance of mis-communication. Its all up there on the screen. Even the table water can be ordered via the touch screen priced at $0 lol. So the result of all this is, food is coming out faster and it gives you the freedom to pace yourself, as I always tend to order too much food. The food is pretty good and priced well. And they serve Sapporo beer, which is one of my favourite beers ever since my last trip to Japan. The sushi roulette is a cute idea but make sure you order it when with people who can't take wasabi. I know I'm pretty evil haha. Overall, its one of my favourite casual Japanese restaurants and highly recommended.

Did i mention they have electronic menus?

You're not coming here for excellent food - you're coming to press the bright coloured buttons on the computer screen when you order your meal. Wagaya is a small taste of Japan in the heart of China Town. It's food is good - not amazing....but did I tell you they have a computer touch screen that allows your to preview your dishes before you order? Wagaya has a beautiful set up - which each person getting their own booth - and although it gets quite crowded you seem to still have the feeling of having your own space. My fun recommendation would be to try sushi - roulette - a dish which has 6 pieces of rice with salmon sashimi on top - 5 are normal and one has a GIANT serving of Wasabi inside.... Lucky for me, I didn't get the wasabi bomb, but it was fun to watch the guy who did. A fun place which is more about atmosphere than food - did I mentioned they have touch screen computers....? :p

Nice atmosphere, some Japanese beer on tap, food is average. I also like how it's open until late.

Fun atmosphere and great food. One of my favorite sushi places of all time. I have not been to a ton though. So take it at what it's worth.

Motto is the underdog of Japanese restaurants at Sussex Centre. Not only do they live in the shadow of highly rated Ramen Ikkyu, but Motto's location doesn't get the best foot traffic either. The escalators up from ground floor plop you out on the opposite side. This was my third time visiting Motto. Typically, there would be one or two very helpful and courteous girls who greet and coax you into checking out their menu. Thank goodness for picture menus! CHICKEN KATSU PLATE ($9) OMG!!!! Best bang for your buck for suuuuure! The chicken is exactly how Chicken Katsu is supposed to be made. Crispy, flaky outside and juicy inside. If you've read my other reviews, you know I can consider myself a bit of a Chicken Katsu snob since that's my go-to-dish at Japanese restaurants. To top things off with this belly-loving dish, you get rice, a side salad w/dressing and miso soup... Oh and almost forgot THE BEST part - FREE ICE CREAM!!!!! Definitely coming back again to try another suggestion..

With relatively few staff that have to multitask between assembling, serving and taking orders, the queue rapidly lengthened behind us as dinner hours began. We ordered the karage bowl, plain wagyu bowl, the teriyaki chicken salad, assortment of side dishes and the matcha milk. The fried chicken is lightly battered and has a strong soy sauce flavor, topped with a layer of mayo. While the slightly undersized pieces have just came out from the fryer, the exterior barely have any crisp and is quite oily, while the interior is a little overcooked. The beef, different from its thick and succulent appearance on the menu, is overcooked and stringy. However, the flavoring on point and the topped spring onions are cut perfectly. Nothing special about the salad, and the same for the self-served takoyaki-on-a-skewer and cold tofu with sliced spring onions. The self-serve matcha milk was a pleasant surprise, with the right level of sugar and bitterness, only lacking some creaminess.
