Wagon Wheel is unlike any other rink I've been to. There's something so unique about it that almost feels campy. Sure, many rinks do feel like a blast from the past, but something about Wagon Wheel is just special. First of all, it's the only wood rink in the Denver+ area... so, if you're an avid wood floor skater, this is the spot for you. What I really enjoy about Wagon Wheel is they accept song requests which is very unheard of at most rinks! So, everyone gets a chance to hear a song they absolutely groove with. I love that! There's a snack bar and vending machine available, cubbies for belongings, and a mini arcade! The only thing I'm not completely in love with is the bathroom. :) shower curtains, tile floors, and small spaces. Otherwise, I love this blast from the past and can't wait to go back to live in some more of that nostalgic goodness! read more

My husband and I are from Louisiana and trying to keep skating alive! We bring our own Harlick Roller Skates made in California, USA. For the past 10+ years we have made it our goal to skate in each state! We love to JAM, slow walk, and couple dance skate on Adult Skate Night. I soon realized there is a skating rink open nearby. On Monday 7 PM- 9:30 PM is their Adult Night. The snack bar will be closed. However, you are allowed to bring your own food & drinks (No Alcohol). We had such a great time last night. The managers are very professional. Also, the DJ was amazing! Also, this is the only real hard wood floor in the Denver area. We enjoyed the smooth hard wood floor to dance skate on. I was not surprised the floor was exceptional for dancing. Though it was not a busy night though we still had a blast. This is the best spot to learn how to skate. The crew here is talented and amazing. The Denver area is my favorite place to skate in AMERICA. read more

A super cute blast from the past! This gem is my favorite rink in the Denver area. If you're far from Brighton, it's definitely worth the drive out! I visited Wagon Wheel to skate at one of their adult nights and it was so much fun. They have a wooden floor and really cool neon lights on the rink. The music was bumpin' and the party was jumpin'! The decor is an eclectic mix of 80s, 90s, 00s, mixed with a tiki bar and an Elk's club. You just have to see it for yourself, it's very cute! There is a snack bar that features pizza and other skating rink fare. You can rent out tables for parties, which I believe start at $25 (definitely call to confirm price). They also have an arcade area and a few cubbies to store your stuff. There are lockers that cost a few quarters if you really want to secure your things. We were looking for an alternate rink as the one closest to use, though busy, feels a bit run down. While I would say Wagon Wheel Skate Center has been around a lot longer, it feels... all around a better experience. For someone like myself, with beginner level mad skills, the environment is not intimidating. For my spawn, who has significantly more experience than I do, Wagon Wheel Skate Center offers her enough space to move around and practice new skills. There is a touch of jankieness, but that makes endearing. read more

Cute place, good prices. However, despite the "Masks required" sign on the door and the county's indoor mask mandate, they are not enforcing masks inside. More than half of patrons not wearing masks, and most employees are not either. read more

The Wagon Wheel Skate Center is a little different than I remember skating rinks, but that might just be my faulty memory. The roller rink itself is a square shape and takes up about half the building. The other half is a cafeteria-like place, game room (including fast Ms. Pacman!), lockers and places to change out of your shoes and into your wheels. A group of us took their party bus up to the rink (which by the way seats about 40 and lets you drink on it) for a night of roller dolls and DKBC skating. The prices are really reasonable - I think skate rental is around $6. And after 10 the rink closed for us to have a private party. So it's nice to know you have that option with big enough groups. They still do all the fun games I remember playing as a kid - different versions of tag or dodgeball-esque games and of course the classic couple skate. It does seem kind of far away, but it's charm probably makes the drive worth it. If you know what you're doing on 4 wheels that is. read more

This place is weird and old... in a good way! I took my friend, who is an avid ice skater, and we had a grand time here, not only skating, but admiring the peculiar architectural features. There are giant tree trunks (real trees) supporting the roof of the skating rink, making the place feel like it wants to be a mountain cabin, even though it's a goofy skate rink. One of the trees had some sort of tree illness, resulting in a large round "blob" hanging off its trunk. Cool to look at. The ceiling is disturbingly low throughout the building, but all the whirling LEDs and black light carpeting and disco balls and firetruck lights make up for that. The interior felt like a flashback to my childhood in a lot of ways, like a rural spot that hasn't changed much over the decades, beyond new carpeting and regular cleaning. Everything is old and looks like it might fall apart, but that's part of the charm. Who minds a little aesbestos when you're skating your feet off?? Everyone at the rink was enjoying themselves thoroughly, from 6-year-olds to 62-year-olds. Some of the skaters clearly compete and are a joy to watch. The employees, some of whom also clearly enjoy being there, held games and mini-events throughout the night to spice things up: The Limbo, Dodgeball, Backwards Skate, Girls Only, Boys Only, and they turned off the main lights twice to let us skate under the disco lights! There is an arcade, including Whack-A-Shark, a game that's illegally(?) using the Linux penguin as its mascot, table football, and something with an honestly creepy light-up alien inside it. Picnic tables, vending machines, and a snack counter round things off. The bathrooms, as others have mentioned, are... special. Tiny and rustic, with shower curtains in place of doors. I didn't have to use them, but my friend did, and she was not pleased.  It feels chilly when you first enter the building, but you quickly come to appreciate the powerful air conditioning as you work up a sweat on the wooden floor of the rink. Lockers are $0.75, so you can relax about your stuff getting swiped, and they DO allow outside skates (quads and inline). House rules are posted everywhere, and seem aimed at a troublemaking demographic that was not present on the night we went (and that had probably not been present for a few decades, based on the ripe old age of the signs). My only complaint besides the bathroom situation is that there isn't any free water to drink. There's a sign in the bathroom warning that agricultural and industrial runoff has made the local water unsafe to drink (how F-ed up is that? Why are people not protesting about this?), so I sort of understand, but it would be nice to have a big jug of spring water in a dispenser with those little paper cups. This is a truly wholesome place to let kids run wild, and for that the owners deserve credit. I wouldn't be worried to drop my kids off here for a few hours, if I had any. Plenty of watchful adults to keep track of things, and real rules about appropriate behaviour. It feels kind of like a throwback to a time when "tweens" didn't exist and children weren't expected to look and act like adults, as they often are now. Wagon Wheel is rather refreshing in that way. It's also a great workout! My legs are exhausted, and I feel like I'm growing new muscles on top of my old muscles. I had to go back out on the rink for one last skate when they put on MC Hammer, but my legs died halfway through - that's how much fun I was having. I will be back again, especially because of the excellent entry fee/skate rental: $6 for adults. A fun, healthy, cheap evening can be had here! read more

My daughter had her 11th birthday at wagon wheel. With little notice not may friends showed up. However, the owner and Sasha, our host, made the most of the night announcing her big day and letting other kids celebrate with her. It went from disaster to fabulous in a few short minutes. I love the nostalgia of this place and the wooden floors were easy to skate! Overall it was clean and I didn't even break out my hand sanitizer (yes I'm one of those moms). The staff there made us feel welcome and I'm so grateful for the personal attention. Thank you guys for making Kylie feel loved, I would not spend her big day anywhere else. While it might feel like a bit of a hike up to Brighton for most Denverites, the 25 minute drive is more than worth it, as you won't find a more unspoiled original roller skating rink in Colorado. The rink still has the original wood floors from 1958, equipped with 3 giant tree trunk support beams coming up through the middle of the floor. There is even orange shag carpet on the walls. The rink has been owned by the Trevena family since 1965. Anybody familiar with the speedskating world has heard the name. Jondon Trevena was a speed skating Olympian and two of his sisters are local celebrities in their respective Roller Derby leagues (Rockett of the Denver Roller Dolls and Urrk'n Jerk'n of FoCo Girls Gone Derby). The rink hosts birthday parties, open skates and school events and is home to The Rocky Mountain Racing In-Line Speed Skating Club as well as The Denver Roller Dolls, a nationally ranked roller derby league that bouts at the Denver Coliseum and The Fillmore Auditorium. You may catch a glimpse of some of the Dolls suiting up for practice as you leave an open skate session. read more

I love the Wagon Wheel. It's where I learned to skate again after a good 17 years of being off of roller skates. Walking in is like walking back into childhood. The bright colors on the carpet, the "mushrooms" to sit and put on your skates, the arcade games, the teens working (and hanging out a bit)... The Wagon Wheel is family owned and operated. It has the wood floor that you'd be hard pressed to find anywhere else and is such a blast to skate on. The huge trees in the middle of the rink make for some fun obstacles and give it a unique character. The rink hosts parties, open skates, speed skating, and roller derby practices and events. Came to Wagon Wheel a few weeks ago for a private Halloween skate party. Had the time of my life, seriously. I hadn't skated in close to 20 years but it came back to me after a few sketchy trips around the rink. SO MUCH FUN! I can't speak for how this place is when it's open to the public, but for a private party - awesome. We had such a great time. I'd give them 5 stars if their bathrooms weren't so icky. You can smell urine outside the doors in the arcade. And there are shower curtains for doors on the stalls. :( read more

There is nothing I don't absolutely love about the Wagon Wheel. I first found it when I played roller derby nearly a decade ago. And now it is our go-to for my son's birthday parties! The service is impeccable, the facility clean and extremely well-kept. Furthermore, no cookie cutter parties here. These are parties you can customize and add your own flair and details too. Last year we had a Paw Patrol Pups on Wheels party and this year will be a Villians and Superheroes party. Sky's the limit! The rink has it's original and immaculate wood floors from the last 1950's! Are you kidding me?My dad remembers skating there when he was a kid and that makes it even more special for my family to make a point of hanging out at the Wagon Wheel when we can. The rink attendants take such good care of the kiddos that my 4-year-old learned to skate in just a few laps with the instruction and encouragement from them. Another thing I love about the Wagon Wheel is the quirk. From the new but retro print carpet to the talking elk head on the wall, the place is full of charm. The kids love the arcade games and I love the fact that the Wagon Wheel is family owned and operated. I always get as excited as my kiddo when it's time to hit up the rink for some fun! read more

While this is a cute skating rink and they do a great job with birthday parties... they don't have speed skates, which is really disappointing. They also through a huge fit about us bringing in a salad for the birthday party. We bought multiple pizzas, paid to have a reserved birthday party space and brought in ONE salad... the salad was for a diabetic and another person who recently had some heart issues and was on a limited diet to share. And the staff through a huge fit and was extremely rude to us. We understand it's a skating rink but there are no salad or other options, extremely disappointed in the customer service read more

Wagon Wheel Skate Center has been my regular stop for the past 2 months on Sunday. They host the drop-in-derby that a couple of the skaters from the Denver Roller Dolls coach. It's $10 for 3 hours of complete butt kicking. Drop-in is great for newbies and advanced derby girls, and they gave me the skills I needed to feel confident enough to join a local recreational team. The floor there is amazing - I liken it to butter. You just glide across and get going very fast. I love the location (a bit far from Denver), but well worth the drive. I also really like the atmosphere of the Wagon Wheel. Not fancy, kinda dark, nothing special....I'm there to skate, not pay for fancy lights and seating. I love the place! I haven't been to their public skate, but I'm sure it rocks! So go, give it a spin and I'm sure you'll go back. read more

THIS PLACE IS AWESOME. Beautiful wood floor. Music is appropriate. Such a neat building. Consider myself somewhat of a history buff and really enjoyed reading the display about their history of Wagon Wheel. Very nice employees. I would say for many of the employees, it is probably their fist job, and they must just have a wonderful group of veteran staff to train because they are professional and courteous. Thanks for putting our youth to work. Spent maybe $10 per person on food, admission. Much better than $20 at the movie theater for admission and food. WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK. read more

My Cousin had her 40th birthday party here. I loved that you can rent it out for private events. Got a little lost getting there at night and its a pretty spooky drive it reminds me a little of a horror movie. This place is a little old and ran down and smells funky when you walk in. The rink itself is the best part. Cool lights and great floor. hard to get in and out since there are stairs though. Bathrooms are super slick with roller skates on almost fell and smacked my head on the toilet. This was a experiance though and I lived thru it. read more

We have been going to the wagon wheel for 6 years and the owners haven't changed... they are wonderful! They are obviously dedicated to their business and improving the rink without destroying th historical value of the rink: which has real wooden floors! We have always been treated respectfully and have had the best time with friends and family at such a reasonable price. The place is huge, there is tons of parking, great music and snacks. This is a family business and you can see they are dedicated to keeping up a safe environment for kids of all ages. I love the Wagon Wheel. For cheap family entertainment you can't beat it. The building looks like a big white barn and the atmosphere inside is a little old school, but that is part of its charm. The rink is hardwood and is in great shape. They do the Hokie Pokie, Limbo, and other games. Sometimes they will do a short speed skating session during the regular public session. The snack bar and skate rental prices are very reasonable. If you give them a credit card they will run a tab for you at the snack bar. In-line skates are available to rent as well. The staff is fantastic and friendly and they do a great job with kids birthday parties. Friday nights it is packed with teeny-boppers, but the kids have a good time. . read more
