I, like many others, fell under the spell of mail order pet supplies during the pandemic and I'm sad to say that I have allowed that to continue much too long. Earlier this week I stopped at Wags & Whiskers for some help with my animals who decided to go on a hunger strike simultaneously. I had forgotten how nice, and necessary, it is to shop local. The folks here have always been so friendly and helpful. Fixed all my critters with one trip and sent me home with some samples just to be sure. While there is the convenience with online shopping, we lose the human contact and helpfulness of shopping local. So this is a reminder, we are blessed with so many wonderful local businesses. This is a great local pet store. It is a bit of a challenge to find if you are using waze - your gps will say you have arrived (at a bar - hmmm waze really does know me!) but keep driving around the back ... down an alley, directly behind The Treehouse Restaurant and you will see their parking area behind the building. Wags & Whiskers have a great selection of different pet foods, toys, leashes etc - but we always come for the doggy wash. Sunny, our chocolate lab, needed a good washing so we decided to give W&W a try. They were so helpful the 1st time we went with showing us the ropes, suggesting different shampoos (oatmeal is great for doggy dandruff). Don't get me wrong, it is definitely a self serve wash, but we all enjoyed the time, got a bit wet cuz wifey can't spray straight and ended up with a very clean shiny dog. I think the cost was about $15, but we thought it was very much worth it for the use of the wash tub, special soap, towels/air dryer and a nice spritz of conditioner/perfume at the end. We have returned 3 more times and each time same great customer service and a happy clean doggy. An awesome diy dog wash in East Nashville, Wags & Whiskers was close, offered a great place and looked like it had a nice, natural boutique vibe. It delivered on all fronts. The staff was friendly and sweet to my dog, helped get me set up at one of three (I think) bath stations. There's currently a $10 special for dog baths regardless of weight. They offer a list of awesome natural shampoos for different needs and I went with the Peppermint & Eucalyptus shampoo for my dog who spends a lot of time outdoors. It's a great set up - a large tin tub with a simple suction and collar system to keep the dog from jumping out. They gave me towels and had several kinds of rubber and deshedding brushes on hand. The hose was easy to use and had warm water. The hose has different water stream options and was a little finicky but the young woman working helped me use it. Another staff member gave my nervous dog a few treats which was greatly appreciated. I didn't use the drying station, instead I towel dried my dog and took him for a walk in the sun around 5 points. I didn't feel rushed at all and bought some treats for my dog and cat after. The store is located in the lot around the back from the Red Door Saloon and has parking. An important note: spot's pet supply (in association with the Dog Spot) is much closer to me but after doing some online research about their owners when I was looking for a dog daycare I feel it would be socially irresponsible to spend money there. They have some great reviews and this choice isn't based on their facilities or staff but on the owners alone. The way they respond to criticism on Yelp is belittling, immature and unprofessional. They also have been featured in the news harassing tenants at a property they do not own, and harassing tenants late on rent at their own properties. So all that being said, Wags is a great business in the same neighborhood and if you're looking for good quality dog and cat supplies or a place to wash your pooch and live in the neighborhood, consider spending your money here instead. read more

Wags and Whiskers is the BEST! We are proud owners of a dog and cat so we need a place that can provide for both. To start Wags and Whiskers is located below the Hip Zipper. You have to drive behind the building to enter. With that said once you walk through that door you enter a cozy, well-stocked animal friendly establishment. We typically walk our dog down, unless we are re-upping on the dry dog food. So what brought us to Wags and Whiskers? Well, with the arrival of a new cat and dog we decided to feed them both holistic dog food. We wanted them to be as healthy as possibly but we also didn't want to break the bank. W&W came to our rescue! For every 12 bags of dog (or 12 bags of dry cat) food we purchase we get the 13th free. Now that's customer service! Also anytime we have a question about food or treats the staff is very knowledgeable and here to help. Besides being our food dealer we have also used their treats (antlers for the pup), blow-up cone (works like a charm) and self-service dog washing station. You pick your shampoo, conditioner, and scent spray, if necessary and they'll get you set up immediately (pending an open tub). We have yet to wait for an open tub. I saw that there is a Wags and Whiskers in 12 South and if it's nearly as good as the 5 Point location than I highly recommend it. It's really a well-priced, one-stop pet shop! read more

It was my first time here and the staff was so welcoming when we walked in. My dog was scared to get into the tub and they were so helpful and sweet with my dog trying to help me get him in the bath. They made sure I had everything I needed to bath him and gave him lots of treats!! And made sure to ask me first if they could. Overall really great experience. Even though I have a kitty, live in East Nashville and love supporting local businesses, I had somehow not made it to Wags & Whiskers until just a few days ago! It's very easy to miss, as it's on the backside of the Hip Zipper store in the basement; it's also quite small, but packed with all sorts of natural goodies and care items you might need for your furry friends. While there, I picked up some all-natural jerky treats to help with cats' arthritis, new stainless-steel food and water bowls, as well as some natural doggy biscuits for my friend's dog. There were tons of cute toys, too, and even an area for cleaning and grooming dogs. Very cute, and a nice change from the big box pet stores like PetSmart and PetCo who have terrible track records wiht animal welfare. read more

Really glad we found this place to buy our dog food from. When we decided to start feeding our dogs better dog food I found this place thru google. We stopped by and the owner was very helpful with talking to us about pricing and about how and where the dog foods we were looking at are made. When the dog food we had been buying was bought out by a different distributor and that distributor did not fall into the same care of how the food is made and the ingredients, the owner let us know right away when we came to buy more food and let us know she'd stop selling it after she finished her current supply. She gave us some great alternatives that were close to our price range (I think even a little bit cheaper). We stopped by to look at different brands and didn't end up buying what she suggested but she never tried to push us on getting that brand. Haven't used the self-serve dog washes, but have been there when others are using it and it seems like a great system. We're very glad we found this place and will continue to shop there. read more

They made sure we were comfortable and they are so friendly with dogs too. They also have a dryer station which is amazing coz my pup is super fluffy! Yeah yeah they have all the healthy organic grain free food and the people that run it are real nice and they have tons of toys and dog stuff, blah blah blah. Everyone has said all that already. So what can I say new? How about that crazy tree house in the parking lot! How does no one mention that thing? My kids and I were dying to crash that thing and get up in there. Has nothing to do with Wags or Whiskers but still worth mentioning. Ok as for the the W&W we have a ball there. We brought the wookie who usually goes for months on end with no offical cleaning beyond those rainy days when he gets an all natural shower. That thing is just a big hairy mess and to tackle bathing him indoors is just too much. We take him to W&W and he comes out clean, fluffy smelling good and all that mess getting him that way is left behind us. Great place give it a try.... read more

I recently decided that I am sick and tired of washing my 85lb dog in my shower at home. It's not that he's a bad dog, it's just that it's a pain in the ass. Usually when I wash him at home, there is more water outside of the shower than in the shower. And usually I'm soaking wet as well as the dog. So, this time when it was time to give the dog a bath, I decided to hit up Wags & Whiskers. One thing you should know is that this place is in a basement, so its a little tricky to find. But, if you get lost, just give them a call and they will help you out. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and their store is full of all kinds of products. If you need to wash your bod this is the place. It is the prefect setup. No more wet bathroom, just a clean happy dog. read more

If you think your animal is worth the attention of celebrity, this is the best shop in town. They carry top of the line holistic and healthy options for your fur family. Wags & Whiskers staff are very calm and thoughtful. They will go out of their way to help explain anything in the store. I just get all waggy when the customer service is treat worthy! Also, I highly suggest you take your foster and newly rescued pets here for a bath. They have huge tubs with all the amenities (towels, variety of shampoos, dryers, brushes, etc) that you can use for a small fee (under $20.grooming). And, I believe, that you can drop and pickup a pet for a bath. I like that I can get dog food that is made with the dogs health in mind. Not profits for the manufacturer. My big white husky loves the food that has salmon, sardines and anchovies. It makes his hips happy. The selection of treats are a-maz-ing! And, they have a freezer full of bones for those pups that like to get their wild side on! Toys galore is the dish of the day. You'll be sure to find something that your little buddy can destroy. (Baxter made me feel like the shittiest parent, so petrified was he in that aluminum tub. Ah well, I know some guys and girls like it!) In any case, I consistently buy our dogs' food and treats here, despite the fact our choice high-protein brand is also available at Tractor Supply. The dedication of Amanda and every employee you'll encounter at W&W is stellar -- they are ALWAYS friendly and helpful, guiding me to the perfect toy or "itchy skin" spray for the four-legged loves of my life. After a fantastic brunch today (because what is Sunday without brunch, I say), #1 wife and I journeyed over to Wags & Whiskers to check out this joint that Marcia raves on and on. The business is located in the alley behind the Hip Zipper or if you are walking in-between Margot and Marche then halfway on your journey bank your eyes (right or left dependent upon which way you're walking) down the alley and you'll see their sign. The store sells all natural and organic pet foods and pet snacks and treats. We did not purchase any food (see disclosure below), but we did purchase some buffalo beef treats of some sort. The boys (that'd be the dogs) really seem to enjoy them and we have not had any "backend performance" issues after consumption and one of the boys has some gastrointestinal issues that are strong enough that he's on prescription pet food. The staff was friendly and nice, and inquired about our boys. While we probably won't be purchasing main meal products, I would definitely return for dog toys and more dog biscuit treats - maybe next time the boys will get carrot cake treats There is also a large cast iron tub present for bathing your "children" - "children" who happen to walk on four legs and be covered in fur. Our boys don't really need baths - because German Shorthaired Pointers have, well, short hair and it basically just needs a damp paper towel to clean them. But, I think for those with large or medium or even small dogs that have thick coats or curly coats it would definitely be beneficial to have the nice open space and deep tub in which to bath your dog. (Disclosure: #1 wife and I work for a particular company that makes pet food products some of which are pet specialty / natural / organic and some of which are not so much organic; however, whether it is our company's products or the all natural jazz in Wags & Whiskers it is all technically human grade. Yes, you can eat your pet's food. I think everyone should make their own choices on what to feed, and I think both the company and Wags serve distinct groups. Go both!) read more

I'm not ashamed to admit I drove across town to give George a new experience, something I enjoyed only as a child when camping. George took his first bath in a galvanized tub at Wags & Whiskers. This was not just any tin tub, but an oversized, elevated model with an adorable red carpeted ramp that wheeled up to the end. A tub with an amazing fire hose nozzle with an adjustable head to regulate the water pressure. A tub accessorized with colorful rubber aprons, bright colored towels and your choice of shampoos including a yummy citrus or a eucalyptus scent. There was plenty of parking as the space is actually in the basement and and you drive in off the alley out back and plenty of ventilation since they run a dehumidifier. There was no odor and no flying carpets of dog hair. The young guy running the place was attentive, not pushy, and even gave George a treat. The price was right in line with Dizzy's Dog Wash over near 100 Oaks. They had blow dryers, although not as strong as Dizzy's. And Wags doesn't offer a frequency punch card or toenail cutting. Still, at least for me, there was something so magical about that tub, enough to make me think about our next visit to Wags. How after George is lookin' sharp, I'll walk down the street and pop into Marche for brunch or maybe over to Battered and Fried. read more

The shelves are dedicated to feeding your pooch for dinner and treat time. They had packets of tiny pellet treats that would be perfect from training your dog. I love this place! And the people thwt work there! I live in Hermitage but come all the way to East Nash to get my dogs food & treats here. If you care about what you feed your "pet", then you should be shopping here. Or at least buying food of this caliber somewhere. If your dog licks its paws, scratches alot, or rubs its face alot, chance are you are feeding them the wromg food. Most dog foods have filler, which is corm or grain. This stuff ia bad for dogs and is really tough for them to digest. Check the label, then check the label of the food here. They also offer bulk treata by the pound, which my dog loves. They always remember me, and ask me how my dog Clemenza is doing. In fact they keep trying to set him up w/another dog that looks similar to him ;) Also buy 12 bags and you get 1 free, they keep track for you! read more

Came here for the first time, as I just moved to town. So excited to have a pet store nearby and love supporting local business. Very very disappointed by the lack of kindness the staff provided. They gave the other dogs treats. Never offered my dog anything. Did ask if I needed help (mind you I'm the only one in the store at this point and there's 3 staff working behind the register). Didn't make any small talk, ask me for help, go out of their way at all. I'm not looking for red carpet service but family businesses should at least ask you for help and make you feel at home. They didn't do any of that. Unfortunate customer service but they do carry very good products. read more
