Either you know what you have been learning and practicing, or you don't. A colored belt doesn't change who you are and what you are capable of. Regular classes are an hour long and will have healthy food served afterwards. You are not kicked out of the school when you finish your class, instead you are encouraged to stay and practice and workout with your fellow kung fu brothers and sisters. It is a large school with two main practice rooms, a bag room, and a gym room. There is also a kitchen with a dining area and two private rooms that can be used for meditation or massage therapy. Sifu Smith teaches a few styles of Tai Chi, Bagua, Hop Gar (Tibetan Kung Fu), Choi Li Fut, and a few other select more private styles. Its rare that you find a teacher that has a great lineage, and its also rare to find a teacher who is exceptional at teaching. When you find a teacher that has a great lineage and is a great teacher, consider yourself fortunate to learn there. We have students there who have come from various martial backgrounds from people who have run their own schools, to people who have never stepped in a gym. There is no judgement, only encouragement. Sifu Smith also is good with children, including children with special needs. I encourage you to visit the school and see for yourself. You can visit the webpage at: www.tibetankungfu.net

I thought you have to be taller or bigger to be able to train in this. Years later, I decided to reach out to Sifu Heintzman for class schedule and came to check out on the class one evening. I came back again few weeks later, with intention to ask questions, but Sifu asked me to join the group and participate in the free workout that night. I joined the gym after the class. Now I really enjoy coming to class because I always learned something new and both the students & instructors are super nice & helpful. Sometimes, work & other thing in life got in the way to prevent me from getting to class, but I try to make it the best I can. I highly recommend Seven Star Gym for everyone who wants to get a great workout, learn self defense techniques, and be a part of this Kung Fu family. Don't worry about if you can or cannot do it, just come and check it out for yourself. You will love the training, your fellow students, and highly skilled instructors that are willing to help to make you better. It's true that being a part of this gym is like being a part of an extended family.

Even as a young adult, I had internalized the idea that martial arts is something that you could only begin as a child. It took me a long time to overcome that hurdle. My inability to find reviews from adult students who didn't practice with their kids for any TaeKwonDo school did little to convince me otherwise. About 6 months ago, I took my first class at Peck's at the age of 35, and it has been a wonderful experience since the beginning. There are many adult students of all levels. Many are parents to kids who are in the kids program, but I have never felt uncomfortable as an adult without kids. Afternoon adult classes are smaller and tend to have predominantly older students. Evening classes are for teens and adults, and there is more of a variety. There are frequent self-defense seminars that are open to the public. Mrs. Peck runs an amazing school, and all instructors are very knowledgeable and supportive. Students are respectful of one another and kind. It seems as though everyone is eager to help. I really could not recommend Peck's TaeKwonDo more. If you are an adult who is interested in martial arts, I really encourage you to take 20 seconds of courage and make an appointment to check out this school. You are not too old. You are not too out of shape. You can do it! If you are a parent with kids, the kids program seems really great as well, as other reviewers can attest, but don't forget to sign yourself up too! It's really pretty great.
