The men who worked there renting the chairs and umbrellas were very disrespectful and lied on another guest. Guests were leaving at 1:00 pm and they had the sold out sign up. We informed them that guests were leaving and that we could purchase their chairs and umbrella. The cut off time to rent is 3:45. They kept saying they were sold out. The guest allowed us to take their chairs because they were paid for already. When we got in the water the men took the chairs and umbrella. Then lied on a different guest and said that they rented them and said they didn't need them anymore. The worker constantly lied in my face and said he was ready to go home. Also said they collect all of the equipment at 4:30. So, he doesn't get off until 4:30-5, why would he feel the need to take the equipment. A liar and disrespectful. Terrible experience. read more

This is only for the SUP rental. Location is prime if you're staying in Waikiki. Lots to do here. Prices are high as expected. Service is OK - just enough to get the job done. They won't take the SUP to the shore or bring it back if you're a off coming back. I love SUP but I'm little and I have a shoulder/neck/back injury so it is difficult for me to carry and I always have to ask someone to do it. I wish it wasn't such a chore for them especially since we tend to tip well (at least 20% even if its bad like this). No matter what time of year it is usually pretty crowded and hard to navigate around ppl. But if you can get out there, it is super fun and the waves are usually gentle. While staying at Moana or Royal Hawaiian we saw a monk seal in the waves swimming through the surfers. Other than that not too much sea life sadly. read more

What an ADVENTURE!!!! And authentic outrigger canoe ride with us paddling! We left right from the beach in front of our hotel, the Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort, and the Royal Hawaiian. We got to relax for awhile under a Beach umbrella and then it was time to help push the canoe into the water and hop on in and start paddling! We had three crew members with us - it was a BLAST!! The fun and views of surfing, without having to get in the water (though we did get a little wet) and no worries about balance. The outrigger canoe has the "ama" (the stabilizing float part) which made it smooth and easy...except for the paddling. Very safe (and that's coming from a former Risk Manager). I have no upper arm strength and we had to paddle hard at times and had we done it any longer than our 30-40min, I would definitely have had a blister. It was a beautiful morning (so thankful there was no rain), ocean was calm, and riding in the three waves was exceptional and something I am so glad they captured on video for us so we can truly remember the feeling always!! Great service and a great place to relax by the pool with amazing views but you need to reserve ahead of time for the covered lounger or cabanas or pool side loungers at the Sheraton Waikiki. The cabanas are a great way to get shade when you need it but also a great for your own private space and also get bar and food service. You also get pool side bucket of treats when you rent the cabanas. Book online ahead of time. Love this place and the great service. read more

The level of service was disappointing. We went to check-in at 8am, but they did not have any chairs or umbrellas ready. They said they would call us in about an hour with an update. No call, so we checked back in. Still nothing was ready, but they said they would call again. No call, so we checked again. They said they could set-up an umbrella with chairs but they didn't have any towels. We took that and quickly noticed there were towels on other chairs. After an hour, no one claimed the other chairs or towels so we made an executive decision to use them. Terrible service! And prior to my trip I reserved a water lounger (that experience is the SOLE reason for the 5 stars, because what happened after was disappointing and sad). I didn't really worry about booking other days because I wanted to be spontaneous. Plus. I'm titanium elite so it comes with perks. Blah blah blah ... FANTASTIC service from Sierra (sp?) and John. Loved my experience in the water lounger (as per usual -- do it every year) ... fast forward Met lovely Australian mum and daughter blah blah blah they weren't even Marriott Bonvoy members (they are Hilton) but not only did they NOT reserve a lounger today (when I couldn't get one despite repeatedly inquiring) but got one BUT they also just informed me they have one reserved (circa 4p today!) for tomorrow. Despite my 5 star review, I will never use them again. And I'm unfollowing them on Instagram. Sadly, fair warning to Black people, they really just don't want our business. read more

I've been coming to the Royal Hawaiian Waikiki beach services location to get surf lessons and beach chairs for years. This trip alone we booked 4 straight surf lessons which equals $265 a day plus we got beach chairs for ~$100 a day for two days. The Japanese lady, MAKI, who's been helping us for years WOULD NOT give us towels because we are not staying at the Royal Hawaiian. She seems like the "manager". We stayed at the hotel many times but this time we decided to stay at next door at Halekulani. We are spending over $1000 on surf lessons, over $450 on photos, and also paying money for beach chairs but we can't get a towel for the chair that's located in front of the hotel? The ridiculous part is we can get a beach towel after we surf. How does that make any sense? I could just take the towels given to me after surf to bring to the chairs. Do they think we want to steal a beach towel that thousands of people use? No. Please review how you treat PAYING customers. I repeat paying customers. If I'm spending money at your establishment, treat me with respect. Also, they leave piles of towels at the pool desk for anyone to grab. MAKI is fake nice and was super rude. This other person, Darron, never smiles and comes across extremely rude as well. He was the person that denied us towels first. I would arrive for my surf lessons and he just gives me the clip board to sign in without saying hello - not even a fake "good morning". These two humans makes waking up in paradise not so pleasant. They literally ruin my mood because I have to feel their negative energy. I've never had one bad customer service experience in Hawaii the past 6 years since coming to the Royal Hawaiian. I had 4 days straight of being forced to interact with them just because I wanted to surf here. Everyone else on staff has been incredibly nice like always. I got hit by a surfboard from one of their employees that were taking photos of us and Maki didn't even care. Too concerned with her clipboard. The beach services at the Royal Hawaiian is only good for people staying at the hotel. Otherwise, you are treated like third class citizens. I only go back because of the surf instructors. Waikiki has changed - last year the service was way better! read more

Staying at Sheraton Waikīkī. Everyone was incredibly friendly. However, chairs SUCK! The cushions are shot. Felt like I was laying just on the wood. Less comfortable than the free chairs. This, you are paying a lot of money for an umbrella or partial cover. Some of the free chairs have umbrellas or are in shade. Not worth the high price for the poor comfort. read more

Waikiki Beach Services is available online and at various huts on the beach, specifically in front of the Waikiki Sheraton and the Royal Hawaiian. They offer a variety of services from beach chair / umbrella rentals to surf lessons to equipment rentals (paddle boards, surf boards). It's much easier to reserve online otherwise the lines at the huts can be quite long - I saw people queuing up as early as 45 minutes before the huts open. We booked private surf lessons with Izah, though we didn't make a specific request. I would highly recommend Izah - we were both first time surfers and he made it so easy. We were able to get up and ride waves with ease from the very start of the lesson. He was great at making us feel comfortable in the water. Private lessons cost $120/hr, and it seems very worthwhile to have the extra attention. At the Royal Hawaiian location, there is a photographer / videographer who takes footage of the lesson while you're out there. You can view it directly after your lesson and determine if you want to buy it, but it's pricey - $50 for either photos or videos or $80 for both. But if you're like me and unlikely to surf again, the photos are worth it. I would encourage you to book lessons and umbrella/chair rentals in advance of your vacation since they book up quickly. read more

Pretty straightforward online booking for the lounge chairs and cabana. Make sure to book weeks in advance for the Sheraton Waikiki location coz of the high demand (it's easy to cancel anyway). When we arrived at 9am, they marked us off a list and escorted us to the cabana with multiple fresh towels. The young guys and gals are pretty efficient with checking constantly if the right person on the list is in the correct chair/cabana. There is also a side table for drinks and food. Lounge chair is aesthetically pleasing and user-friendly. Will book them again when we plan our return to Sheraton (beautiful property - I have a separate review for it) read more

Burial At Sea So this is probably a different review than most. We booked Waikiki Beach Services for a burial at sea. My husband and I were very pleased with the entire experience. The staff were all friendly, nice, and helpful from check-in to completion. We row out about 300 yards in a canoe. Russell patiently explained the entire process to us. They were well prepared. We got to row also, which was very fun. Kai was one of our oarsmen, and was very patient and kind when helping. In addition to rowing, Aaron was the on-board photographer. He did a fabulous job with the pictures, capturing all the moments we would have wanted. And the pictures were part of the package, a welcome surprise. If you're looking for a short, to-the-point, yet still respectful, burial at sea, I would highly recommend Waikiki Beach Services. I see that that is not their primary service, but my husband and I both thought they did a great job. read more

We were very impressed with the experience we had on a canoe surfing adventure with the Waikiki Beach Crew at the Royal Hawaiian! Beware of this man! Do not rent from him! He runs the Waikiki Beach Services Activities & Rentals kiosk on the beach right in front of the Sheraton. We have a group of people and rented a couple of chairs. My young daughter and I were seated there when he came over and got incredibly belligerent with us - accused us of not being paying customers, of trying to ruin his business, etc. When I tried to explain that our group had rented these, he wouldn't listen - gave me no opportunity to call over one of our other group members to prove that we paid for the chairs, nothing. Literally was pulling chairs out from underneath us (my daughter is 3, there is no cause for that type of behavior towards a literal toddler). Absolutely horrendous behavior, does not care about his paying customers, just kept repeating "I'm tRyInG tO rUn A bUiSinEsS hErE!" Yea dude I know, we're paying customers of your business who you just screwed over lol. Made our whole afternoon such a poor experience. I took my first surf lesson ever today! I read the information and was a little apprehensive that I would be able to do it. For reference, I'm 40 years-old, a recreational runner, but lack balance and coordination. I decided to go for it! I signed-up for the group class at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. There were 4 others in the class. Our instructor (Evan) was very professional, personable, and encouraging. We spent about 20-30 min on the beach going over safety information, learning terminology, wind and surfing directions, and the fundamentals of how to surf. After this portion, we took a quick water break and regrouped to paddle out. Paddling is hard, but Evan was helpful and encouraging. When it is your turn he takes the student out into the wave pushes you in with words of encouragement. I caught my first wave! I would highly recommend this if you have ever considered learning to surf! Helpful tips: There is a locked box to stash your personal items. If you don't wear a long sleeve shirt, there are rash guards available to borrow. read more

We rented Luxury Cabana #6 at the Sheraton Waikiki for our 35th Anniversary and were somewhat disappointed with it. While the cabana itself and the views from it were very nice, the inattentiveness of the staff was glaring. The information on the website indicated that juices, water and snacks were included in the substantial price, however, they neglected to point out that it consisted of two 12oz cans of juices, 2 small cartons of water, one small bag of taro chips, and one small bags of cookies.... in a plastic bucket with ice. Only when we asked for some more juice did we find out that what we initially received was it... that's all!... no more! I even had to wave the attendant over to us to get some more ice in our bucket! Not once did they come over to ask if we needed anything. Needless to say it was a very disappointing experience, and one that I would NOT recommend! The cost is way too much for what you receive. read more

Waikiki Beach Services was the perfect choice for the burial at sea for my dad, grandmother, aunt, and two uncles. I had to reschedule a few times over the past couple of years due to the pandemic, but Waikiki Beach Services made it so easy! Not only was the ceremony simple and perfect (despite slightly choppy waters), and exactly what my dad would have wanted, they also included snapshots from the ceremony, which they provided to me on a USB drive. I was able to view the photos today as I've only just arrived back home in NYC, and I am so happy and grateful to have these memories captured from their beautiful send-off. My daughter wanted to go surfing and what's more epic than surfing in Hawaii? Of course, my 15 yr old daughter wanted to just grab a board and had to talk her in to a surfing class - so glad we did. After doing some research on yelp & a recommendation from a surfboard rental place, we decided on Waikiki Beach Services. The instructor gives a 15-20 minute demonstration on the beach that is vital to your success out on the water if You have never been surfing. The instructor was awesome. He was very (very) patient with my daughter training her on her form and genuinely cared about her having a good surfing experience out on the water. After falling in her face (literally) the first few times, she caught some waves and can proudly say she surfed in Hawaii. The photographer took some great pics and video of us both surfing the waves. Can't give the instructor enough credit for the fun and excitement my daughter had hitting the waves and surfing for her first time. read more

If you want to surf at the best beach in the world with the most ideal beginner waves (and warm, clear water) -- this is the spot! I've taken a number of lessons from surf instructor Izah at Waikiki Beach Services and he is very experienced and knowledgeable. I've definitely improved and learned so much during my lessons. (He even offers some very useful tips that I can use if / when I get the chance to surf in other places). It's so fun to surf on those long, rolling waves! I've had excellent experiences with Waikiki Beach services overall. I've met a few of the other instructors and they are all encouraging and incredibly experienced as well! Also - it's important to note that they offer towels here for students after the lesson (most other surf schools don't). They also have a nice shady spot on the beach with chairs and umbrellas where you can wait for your lesson (or your friends / family can hang out while you are in the water).
