My grandchildren 9 & 10 took a 1 on 1 surf lesson. They had a great time. by the end of the hour they both were able to stand and ride a few wave on the board. The guys helping them were awesome and worked well teaching kids. Highly recommend using them if you want surf lessons. read more

As a full group of seven, we took out an outrigger canoe. At first the ride a few hundred yards out seemed underwhelming, but then we caught our first wave back into the shore. The person behind me, a bit of a tough nut, exclaimed, "OK, that was pretty awesome". We went back out to catch a second wave and the captain starts saying, "Oh shit, we gotta move people". At the time I just chalked it up to theatrics. We starting riding the wave back in again like the first time, but this time the colossal wave engulfed our canoe and we sank! Now, the canoes are made of fiber glass so the still float just below the water. It was a tough ride in, but everyone enjoyed the adrenalin rush. Tip: don't sit in the very back, you will be asked to bail water. read more

My group of friends and I did Outrigger here with Waikiki Beach Services and we had an amazing experience! We arrived at their booth, checked in and were immediately given instructions and some brief info about the agenda. So my group of friends are really competitive, so we were separated into two groups - since each outrigger can only have 5 passengers I believe. There were two instructors per outrigger, and we compete among each other on which team will catch a bigger wave or row faster. While we were out on the water, we also have a photographer that were taking pictures of us to capture these fun times. What's really cool was that we also get a CD of photos given to us for free! My review is only about: Scattering of Ashes at Sea Waikiki Beach Services made it possible for me to arrange and conduct a simple, but beautiful and dignified ash scattering off of Waikiki. They operate out of a concession at the Royal Hawaiian (the Pink Hotel), but dont let that mislead you. The whole affair was handled with mindful soulful beach boys...dignity and Aloha ..... It was permeated by a gentle magic...one of the paddlers mentioned their ancestor and the good company my relative would have in this locale....we actually caught a long wave on the way back to shore. The owner, the staff and the beach boys were all experienced on the beach and in the ocean, they were also very warm and kind. In my case, we used an outrigger canoe and I helped row...but many options are available for any kind of customization you may prefer (including staying on land). I chose Waikiki Beach Services after contacting a number of businesses run by Cap't Dis n Dat, who just didn't feel right...I couldn't risk a mortified angry ancestor returning amid flaming pupus, and preachy platitudes! read more

We booked an outrigger canoe ride with Waikiki Beach Services. We had fun, I would probably do it again with them. Its a little hard to figure out where their tent is. We were being sent a million different directions. We had issue beforehand with our rental car that was going to make us miss our 3pm appt so I called and they were super helpful and pushed the appt back 30min. The only thing I wasn't super happy about was that the online website says that we dont have to worry about riding with strangers. "Exclusive ride for your group only - Don't worry about riding with strangers." this wasn't the case, when we were getting ready to leave the captain invited two people off the beach that i'm assuming he knew. since it was only my fiance and I, I guessed that it would be easier with two other people so I didn't complain. But it would of been better of the two older ladies that got on weren't so snooty with their noses high in the air. It kind of killed my mood, especially after trying to make conversation and being shot down. We caught two waves which was a lot of fun and the pictures they gave us were decent. The Captain himself was super nice and so was the other guy that was helping him I would book again with them but only if I had a bigger group that way I don't have to worry about random beezys acting like they own the world. :D read more

DON'T BLINK, YOU MIGHT MISS A GREAT PLACE TO EXPERIENCE SURFING! You have to find Duke's restaurant in order to find the tiny little hut out of which Waikiki Beach Services operates. It's on the ocean side of Duke's, immediately in the Diamond Head direction after you leave Duke's patio. Used them at least three times, and every time has been laid back and fun. These are the guys I use whenever my mainland friends want to come "take surf lessons." The staff were laid back and friendly. Always got great attention from the instructors, and you WILL stand up on your first day. They provide long sleeved rash guards, and you'll have the option of renting your board after your lesson (but you won't want to because your arms will be pooped from paddling!). They do send out a guy with a camera to capture your water-god surfing prowess, and you'll have the option of purchasing a CD with your pics on it (for around $40). But you might be just fine if you have a relative or friend with a big lens (one that doesn't want to surf, that is) sit on the beach and shoot you. I've done that plenty for my friends when they're out for a visit. read more

We used this company for the group outrigger canoe excursion . The guys at the desk were a bunch of young punks with attitude . I hope they don't work on commission ... Anyway, the photographer was kind ,sweet ,and endearing . He introduced himself beforehand and chatted us up a bit. The captain(?) was professional and to the point. I think he overheard us talking about how I was a little uneasy with the activity, so he promptly put me in front of the canoe ! All my doubts slipped away as we headed out to the ocean .The captain steered us in the right direction and shouted out commands. Even though the water was calm we managed to "catch" a few small waves. We saw a giant sea turtle swim by us, which was the highlight of the trip. The views of Waikiki and Diamond Head were phenomenal . We laughed ,got wet ,and had an experience we won't soon forget . This was part of our following in the steps of The Brady Bunch adventure . Amazing! We enrolled our kids (5 and 7) in one hour private surf lessons through WBS - and we were so impressed at the professionalism and enthusiasm of the instructors. Both of our kids not only loved the class, but they were both on their feet and surfing within 30 Mins of starting! Even better, the WBS photo service (Josh!) was there to capture it all. I got an early surfing lesson with Mason and he was a fantastic instructor. He's a local so surfing was in his blood and he's a humble patient instructor. He took his time to show me how to SLOWLY place my feet up and after 4 times of failing, I finally got the hang of it. I organized a 50-person outrigger canoeing activity for a team offsite and it was a total blast! There was a little bit of emailing back-and-forth to sort out exactly how a 3-hour event of outrigger racing would work out logistically and what the pricing was but after that it was smooth sailing from there on out... Miwa from WBS was great in terms of meeting me onsite the day before to walk me through where to meet and how the race would work. For a small cost, they set us up with umbrellas & beach chairs where we could park our stuff on the beach. We had 3 canoes at our disposal to race with and as teams were eliminated in our tournament, one of the captains took folks out for canoe surfing which was pretty darn cool to do! The captains were great in getting a bunch of novices rowing like pros in no time : ) Outrigger canoeing was a unique Hawaii experience and WBS helped us have a great time! read more

Our family loved our morning with Waikiki Beach Services! My parents (63 & 70) had a ball on the outrigger canoe surfing, as well as my husband and one of my daughters. Myself and 4 others took surfing lessons, which I highly recommend. It's easier than you think, and they make you feel very safe. My 8 yr old son had his own private instructor who rode tandem on the board with him and took great care of him. But the best thing about this place was the photos...it's SO worth the money. We had fabulous close up shots of us all surfing... PRICELESS! And they gave them all to us on two CD's (about 200 shots!) My brother's family had used another Waikiki Beach company for surfing lessons, and the pictures were not even worth buying. read more

I give the surf lessons 5 stars, but canoe only 3 mainly because pictures junk - even though prepaid for pictures, didn't take too many shots, all lower resolution (each shot only 500 kb, not even printable). Simply put, I don't really think Waikiki Beach Services provides a great beach service. It's too bad, really. They've got a great historical reputation tending to guests of the Royal Hawaiian, but my experiences fell a bit short of my expectations. We booked three experiences with WBS, stand-up paddle boarding, outrigger canoeing, and the all-day beach chair rental. Stand-up paddle boarding lesson: This was our first adventure, and was okay, but not great. Ultimately, the instructor served as little more than a safety look-out. He wasn't much help in providing instruction when I struggled to stand up. He was encouraging, but did little more than sit on the board directing traffic. Still, it was a fun bit of exercise. Outrigger canoe: By far the best experience. My wife and I linked up with another person looking to go out. We set out, caught some waves, and had a really great time. By pure luck, all of us had a good depth of experience with water sports and working cooperatively (crew and kayaking) so we gelled really well as a crew, all perfectly in time and maximizing our power. The guides were quite impressed with our ability, and said so several times. This was good because I was a bit worried, having watched other scratch crews struggle to maintain a rhythm. I could have done this for hours; it was so much fun! Beach chair rental: This was perhaps the most disappointing/lackluster of the lot. We got exactly what we paid for, two beach chairs and an umbrella for the day, but had to work very hard to get any service beyond the initial set-up. We had to be very proactive to get assistance moving the umbrella as the sun shifted through the day, which is strange because that's basically the only thing they do. Food and drink orders are only offered after noon, are not run by WBS, and there's only one waitress to serve the entire beach. Additionally, alcohol consumption is "prohibited," but luckily the adjacent Mai Tai bar has a pretty relaxed policy and will allow you to take drinks "to go." As the bartended put it 'No, I'm sorry, I can't give you a plastic cup for the beach. But, I can give you beer to go and not know you where you go with it.' But again, this service is separate from you chair rental with WBS. WBS's convenience for Royal Hawaiian guests can't be understated. It's perfect, but if you're just visiting Waikiki for the day, I'm sure you can do better. read more

My coworkers and I planned a team bonding event while they were visiting from the mainland. There were 7 of us so we chartered two boats for 1 hour and had a great time! Ted and Mike were awesome steersman and we were able to catch about 8 waves total in the hour. They are awesome at navigating through the hundreds of tourists swimming around in the water. It's amazing how much control they have over their boats. They let you leave your bags and slippers behind their desk near the pool. My coworkers who were visiting had such a great time! It was a great team bonding event and a good learning experience too! read more

We just got back from our vacation in Hawaii, and it was great! The highlight of our trip this year has to be with Waikiki Beach Services. I took a surfing lesson with my wife and 2 kids, and I have to say that it was the best surfing lesson experience we have ever had in Hawaii(this was our 5th time visiting here). The staff was very friendly, and our instructor was very helpful, and patient with us, and he was great with the kids. We also took a canoe ride. This is was our first time doing this, but I know we will definitely try it again next time we are in Hawaii. My 72 year old mom even had a blast! We were recommended to use the Waikiki Beach Services from the Royal Hawaiian concierge for a burial at sea. My Mom had set everything up before we arrived to the Royal Hawaiian for a 10am departure on 1/30/16 and we were advised to arrive 10 minutes early. We ended up waiting over 30 minutes because the main paddler could not find someone to take pictures. All the while he kept talking about himself and how his back hurt & that he was going to go home after taking us out. Not really appropriate given the circumstances of which we were there to spread my Dad's ashes. Not worth the $300 charge for a 5 min ride straight out from shore (total time in boat maybe 15-20 min) when an entire charter for an hour is $300. He obviously rushed us so he could go home early. Initially, the owner, Ted, seemed so kind and genuine when arranging all of this, yet did not respond to my Mom's email about the post ride complaint. Waikiki Beach Services is not the only company who charges more for adding the word 'burial' to the ride. It's not as if you have a chance for a 'do over'. If your plan is to grant your deceased loved one's last wish, be certain you are clear with exactly what you are purchasing. Obviously our expectations were not met. After being recommended to this paddle board company, we purchased 4 paddle boards for my family. None of the girls knew how to paddle board and received no instruction from the group despite their obvious struggling. We became clearly concerned when the 4 girls drifted far away because of the rough weather. Since no one had been informed of the dangerous conditions, we frantically went to the get help from the group. Instead of receiving a lifeguard or some other form of aid, we were told the workers could not leave their post and that the girls had to find their own way back. Dangerous and not fun. read more

Hubby and I now live on the Big Island and currently have my sis visiting from Carrickfergus, N.Ireland, as part of her vacation we decided to spend a couple of days in Honolulu sightseeing. One of our best experiences was the OutRigger Canoe ride provided by Waikiki Beach Services. The "guys" Russel and Uncle Mike made sure we caught the waves, entertained us with stories while we waited for the perfect wave, and our photographer surfed beside us taking photos and videos of our rides, he even got a photo of a giant turtle swimming under us. The views of Waikiki and Diamond Head were phenomenal. This was a great experience and one we highly recommend, don't be cheap riding only one wave is NOT enough!
