Horrible Customer Care! Absolutely no help at all when I…read morejust wanted to set-up an account. I'm switching to another Pharmacy today! (Guilderland location)

I…read moreeven called the regular store phone and when they transferred me to the pharmacy, whoever was on the phones picked up, said nothing, and hung up - as if to avoid speaking to customers. I figured I'd just refill my prescription using the automated phone line. Did that and it said my prescription would be filled by 3:45 same day. Before leaving the house, I called again to make sure it was ready before making the trip there, as I live 30 minutes away, but again, hung up on. I got to the pharmacy at 4:30 and the attendant let me know, in a very short manner, "We don't have anything here for you." I let them know the automated system said it would be ready for pick up by 3:45, to which they responded "well we need an order from the doctor." Shame on the automated system for its error in ETA and shame on the employees at the pharmacy for not answering not one of my six calls. This trip could have been prevented and I could have reached out to my doctor before their offices closed had I known. I'm going out of state tomorrow morning before the pharmacy opens and now I'll have to wait a week to pick up. Someone's needs to be educated on how to do their job, especially when they're dealing with people's medications.

On the surface.. maybe it looks like your average store with snacks, drinks magazines and lottery.. but it's more than that... they sell hand made cards, made by the owner's wife, and Perry's ice-cream, and any number of other quick-grab items, Advil, Lotto, etc. The real value of Emil's are the people who work there, this is a family run business, Jerry and his son Anthony know their customers. They're friendly & take pride in getting to know the locals & regulars. With COVID causing office closures, their business has been greatly affected, less employees in the office is less foot traffic. I love this little mom & pop, shop.. remember to stop in, support local and keep the small business afloat!

They have a good selection of snack foods, beverages, greeting cards and reading material, lotto, a few toiletry items, in addition to hot coffee, sandwiches, soups (1 per day), baked goods, chili dogs, and several flavors of Perry's ice cream. The breakfast sandwiches are a steal. Deli sandwiches run about $5-6; soup $3.25ish. They aim for quality and do not disappoint... They get their meats from the Old World Deli. The roast beef is especially good - It's nice and rare, and absolutely delicious. (See food pics.) I love to support locally owned shops, and it doesn't hurt that Emil's does things right.

Not to mention it was raining. I walked over the the gas station on the corner of lark and Madison and talked to a very helpful clerk. She told me to have my car either towed right over or if I can drive very slowly. I drove very slowly and met a guy with blonde hair who was extremely helpful and fixed my tired in 5minutes. His charge for it was the best I ever had and I would extremely recommend his small shop to everyone who hates dealing with the hassle of big companies fucking you over. It's been a few days and my tire has not had a problem, even though I'm skidish. Lol

So I became a customer, if not buying gas, buying cigarettes and coffee early in the morning on the way to work. Sometimes minor repairs would be done by women working in the station. Rox took her car here all the time, for major and minor work, and loved them. Dunbrook Mobil does not have a staff, it's more like a cast. Through repeated visits, you get to know them, and the pleasant quirkiness of the business ameliorates the cost of gasoline a bit.

For the record, I'm a middle-aged white woman. I can't imagine what it must be like to shop there as a minority. That incident alone would be enough to keep me out of the store, but sadly there's more. Like most drug stores today, everything you would typically go to a drug store to buy is locked up behind plexiglass. There are signs everywhere talking about cameras, and the general vibe is that there is no possibility that anyone who isn't a criminal would ever have reason to enter the store. I was there to buy some packing tape, which they sell for around $15 a roll. At that price I could have paid to had it shipped overnight from Amazon. It's sad, because CVS used to be a normal store. I will never enter one again for any reason.

So much, the goods are falling off them. There are numerous entrances. Three check-out counters. The CVS folks that work at this location have always been very friendly and helpful in all ways and in all manners. Once, I needed a sheet of paper and they were able to come up with it for me. Check-out is brisk and accurate! The drinks and freezer section does seem to be in perpetual disrepair and it needs more attention for sure (take note staff). Locals that work around this CVS must buy-out all the gatorades, waters and sodas. It's ransacked. Other than that, this CVS is very great. They stay open late in the PM hours when other CVS close early in the evening. There is a separate section for letters and cards, beauty, shampoo, drugs, snacks, summer shopping and even chocolates/candy/chips. That said: can we get an isle for men only? Every time I come to any CVS - and I mean any CVS - half the stores are for babies and women. I spend ten minutes shopping only to find out there is no protein shakes, no beer and the men's shampoo is SOLD OUT! I am sick and tired of 'sheconomy'... Do better for male shoppers CVS, or my next review will be a 1 star. Review: 5

On the plus side they still have a hot dog steamer vs. the newfangled rollers that have been appearing around the region. More than anything else, I appreciate how they have a rack that holds your "milk club" card by the milk cooler so you don't have to have yet another thing taking up space in your wallet. Other Stewart's may be newer, cleaner or larger. Some might even have gas. But this is the one where I keep my milk club card, which means it gets the extra star. So on those evenings after dinner when I discover that there is no milk left for the kids cereal in the mornings, I come here. And maybe I'll pick up some eggs too if we're low. Yeah, ice cream too. I'm ashamed to admit it, but after five years living in the Capital Region I've found some of the ice cream flavors to be magnificent even though they are filled with gums and other nasty ingredients like carrageenan. You can pry the half-gallon of maple-walnut from my cold dead hands.
