This store is clean and organized well enough, and I like shopping the CVS brand because they have good specials and their "Extra Bucks" program gives you coupons good toward cash on future purchases. Unfortunately, the store in East Greenbush has a sales clerk who struggles with basic math skills. I am not an angry or impatient type of customer, but when I try to conduct a simple transaction with her, she refuses to listen or admit that she is wrong. Here is an example that transpired today:
I bought two items and my bill came to $14.87. To deal with round amounts of change, I gave her $20.02 in the form of a twenty dollar bill and two pennies. Thus, the change due back would be $5.15.
She entered the cash presented ($20.02) incorrectly into the register. So I tried to explain it to her in the format of a manual cash transaction. That is, take the loose pennies ($.02) and subtract it from the total:
$14.87 - .02 = $14.85
Then take the twenty dollars and subtract the $14.85 to arrive at the change due back:
$20.00 - $14.85 = $5.15
This seemed simple enough, but she would hear none of it. Instead, she tried to tell me that she would ADD my two pennies onto the bill:
$14.87 + .02 = $14.89
Then she would subtract the $14.89 from the twenty dollars to arrive at the change due back:
$20.00 - $14.89 = $5.14, which isn't even correct arithmetic!!!!!!
I was dumbfounded when she continued to persist in this logic and refused to hear the correct math.
This isn't a bad store, but just be very careful with your transaction or you could be shortchanged. I know that a few pennies isn't a big deal these days, but if this clerk makes similar errors on a bigger scale, you could be in for a big hassle. read more
