I had a much-needed, extraordinary service experience with the pharmacist at the Walgreen's located at 1217 22nd Street, NW in Washington, DC. on May 19th. I left my medicine box in NJ and had arrived in DC for three nights, to celebrate my husband's birthday with our adult children. . . who had also traveled there. I have a chronic disease and was at my wit's end, so stressed out about getting ill while out of town. The pharmacist did a tremendous amount of work to get my 8 prescriptions ready, with 3-day supplies of each, explaining the situation to my insurance company, so that they would allow the emergency fills. His name was Joe and this was on 5/19/2023. He was an amazing example of professional courtesy and expertise and I will not soon forget his kindness. Thank you, Joe! read more

Whatever you do, don't bring anything important to their photo department! My husband brought some old rolls of film to be developed at this location in July. They said, due to Covid, it might take twice as long as usual so come back in two weeks. In fact, it took two months. And they lost some of the film and never tried to make it right. Here is what happened: He dropped off the film and came back two weeks later. Only one of the six rolls of film was ready. What happened to the other five? "Come back in another week" they said. So he did. One more roll was ready. What about the other four? They told him to come back in a week. This happened again and again. Sometimes one roll of film was developed, other times it wasn't. These were important photos from 20 years ago! By September, two months after originally turning in the rolls, there was still one roll missing. When he asked where it was, they said it had been sent back to the developer. Then they said it was lost. One employee told him she thought it had been thrown out because he hadn't come to ask about it in a week. She didn't apologize or try to look for it. She was dismissive and just wanted to get rid of him even though he was polite and respectful the whole time. At one point she told him with annoyance in her voice, "Why don't you call the developer?" Wait, what?! She is the Walgreens employee, Walgreens is the one who lost the film, it's HER job to call the Walgreens developer. Finally, a manager admitted they had no idea where the film went. They had a record showing someone in their store had signed for the photos but the photos were nowhere to be found. Imagine that? You entrust them with your important photos and they have some half-baked system where unknown people are signing for them when they come back from the developer, and then they lose them! There was a mumbled apology and an offer to do a free photo developing, as if that would make it better. The value isn't equal to a roll of film, it's the lost memories. The service at this Walgreens is really terrible. Even the most professional manager, who finally admitted they had lost the photos, was a major disappointment. She promised to call the developer and then to call my husband the next day to update him on what she found out. We never heard from her. The incompetence, rudeness, and lack of professionalism of this Walgreens was really disappointing. And they don't keep their promises. Moral of the story: Never bring them any important photos, you are sure to regret it. read more

Going off of the hours of operations listed for this Walgreens pharmacy, we had our ER physician electronically send my prescriptions here not realizing that they not only don't honor their own hours but also don't carry the most basic of medications. I have never seen a pharmacy operate like this. Incase it isn't obvious, access to medication can be quite emergent. Something needs to be done here. We, however, won't be back. read more

The worst pharmacy I have ever had to deal with. Their website will say my prescription is on the way when they haven't even ordered it yet. They will tell me my meds are going to be there tomorrow when they really aren't. I have tried to call them multiple times in a row to confirm if my meds are there and they hung up on me 4 times in a row, I was trying to get ahold of them for over an hour. They make you go all the way to the pharmacy just to tell you your meds aren't there. I literally need my medication for my asthma so I can breathe. Without it I have to go to the hospital for asthma attacks. They seem extremely understaffed and the few staff there don't care about helping you even in the slightest. If you have the choice, never go to this pharmacy. read more

Better than any and every CVS I've ever been to. Okay, the service isn't great in the general store, but really we've all been to these kinds of stores, you're not going there for the service. We all know how to look up at the signs and figure out which general section a specific item is in. I realize I sound really mean and crabby, but honestly, this is a drug store. There are only so many rows a p The only place you do need specific help/contact is in the pharmacy. They often have general staff working which slows everything down. I have family members who are PharmDs and while I realize you don't always need those people working every part of a pharmacy, this place rides the line a little too comfortably. There are just too many basic pharmaceutical tasks that just end up being slowed leaving a high mistrust in the patients. read more

Loved the fact that this place existed and was open 24 hours during our DC weekend. We were able to get the crap/snacks/drinks needed without having to get hosed by either the hotel or by the local Whole Foods. The store is brightly lit and they do stock a lot of stuff into this place. Minus one star for the ice cream section looking like the vikings from the Capitol One commercials had just ransacked it right before I got there. read more

I recently went to get a flu shot at the pharmacy, and was taken to a small room in the back that was just filthy - messy counters, dirt and garbage all over the floor. It was a tiny room - they can't sweep the floor in a place where they give shots? I thought about walking out. The service at the front counter is abysmal. Ten plus minute wait, usually there's the same disinterested and bored cashier who moves slowly and waits until there are 6-7 people in line before calling for help. And this is at lunch hour - that they only staff one person at the front. This store needs better management. read more

After spending the last two years in San Francisco, I got very accustomed to not having to walk very far before coming across a Walgreens. You don't always appreciate what's in front of you though, infact I remember going "GEEZ! The Walgreens here are as bad as Starbucks..." But I'm a crotchety one. Then I moved back to the DC area and realized how much I actually appreciated having Walgreens everywhere! The convenience, oh! Today after work I went to the DC Walgreens and was instantly hit with a wave of comfort. Oh Walgreens, I'm sorry I ever took you for granted. You kick ass in a way that CVS can't compete with. Really friendly and funny staff. I had to buy a voltage converter for my European laptop, and the guy helping me out was asking several questions regarding my laptop adaptor - which ended up saving me several dollars, as I only needed to change socket type. Then he tried to save me a few more dollars by turning the whole shelf up side down for cheaper options. I had a blast with the cashier at a later point, joking about whether or not I should be greeted with a welcome without a reward card. I ended up with a warm welcome and a few coupons for my next visit. Other than that great experience, I must say that they kept the store tidy and clean, with staff members lurking around every single isle ready to answer customer questions with a smile. Shopping was painless, and the store was well organized and pretty compact in size, which makes for a swift and efficient shopping experience. On the down side, they were sold out of sun screen, and I was too lazy to go to CVS to get some. Needless to say, I turned lobster. read more

I came there at 10.30pm to buy cat food. Not the first time I use my debit MasterCard (chipped) at this location. This time it was saying "not authorized" for the 1st time. All previous times were fine. Instead of helping me out, try to process on another terminal the sales people did not do anything. I had to leave with no food for my cat. Yes, I have money on my card. I work at hospitality business as well. And I am very disappointed with such inattentive personal. You can tell they don't care, they just here to get their paycheck, they are not happy with their job, so you will see it right the way. Way to go Walgreens on hiring people who doesn't care about the sales. And way to go Walgreens on not updating the payment terminals :/ smh. My cat could be hungry cuz if you. But I went to CVS. I'm going to preface this review by stating that it'll probably seem a little strange. It sounds weird, but this Walgreens just feels "better" than the CVS across the street. I'm not sure if it is because of the tall ceiling, the bright lighting, or the well-stocked and organized shelves. I think the spaciousness of the store makes it feel cleaner, while the lighting adds to the feeling that things are fresher. I know it sounds crazy, but as someone who obsessively checks expiration dates before buying any food items, better lit stores lend to the feeling that the items are newer. Darker places give off the feeling that it's not regularly restocked. Hence why I choose this Walgreens over the CVS across the street to buy my cereal. The staff here was really friendly and helpful, and the place had everything I needed. Plus, I felt the travel section in Walgreens was much better than the CVS. Although both drugstores are well-stocked, I'd choose Walgreens because it just seems better. read more

FIRST Walgreens at downtown Washington DC finally opened...located on M Street near Georgetown University Hospital on newely renovated Marriott Hotel....tourist and locals can pickup their prescription refills anywhere & anytime...they can even make refills on-line or by phone...smells like new paint and great store this store space is smaller than usual walgreens...This includes Cafe W & Photo Center... front store is 24 hours pharmacy is open til 8a-10pm weekdays 9a-6pm on weekends. read more

For some reason I got really excited when I heard the District was getting a Walgreen's. It's just a drugstore but I feel like they have more--and better--products than their competitors and their employees usually are more competent than CVS. I think I was also just happy it wasn't another CVS coming into a space. Even though it's right across the street from CVS, this drugstore is loads better. The staff is helpful, it's clean, they have good deals and they have the "W Cafe." It sounds lame but they have a coffee machine with pretty cheap drinks (Maxwell House blend)--including lattes and the likes--and they have a microwave if you buy something that needs warming up. It's cheaper than the Starbucks right next door if you're on the run. The manager was also very nice there. I started chatting with him, and he said Walgreen's might be opening up another location downtown. He even gave me a free cuppa when I was there (FYI, it tasted like machine coffee). read more

This drug store has an eclectic mix of home goods and food. It also has a photo section for you to have photos printed, etc. The staff here has been friendly and helpful with returns (bring your receipt). The pharmacy staff is also quite good and will whip up your prescription while you wait. I've found, for reasons I can't fathom, that getting my prescriptions filled here can be less expensive than getting the same prescription filled - in the same way, generic or brand - than at the CVS across the street, so for that reason I'm migrating my pharmacy needs over to here. I think the prices for goods are pretty much the same, though. One very slight downside vs the CVS is that they don't have self-checkout kiosks here, so there's often a line to pay for things. However, I've also waited in line at the CVS kiosks, so perhaps it's a wash. Also, interacting with a person instead of a computer can be pleasant. read more

I came to pharm direct from nearby hospital to fill some desperately needed meds. It was 6pm on a Sunday night and all other pharmacies in the area were closed. the fella working had just shut down and was on his way out when I begged him to fill my scripts. He could have easily said sorry not tonight like every other parm in the area but he agreed to stay and fill my script and i could not have appreciated it more. i wish I could remember his name as he deserves the shout out, all i remrmber is I would guess he was originally from somewhere in middle east and he could not have been more helpful. if tour in the area and need a pharmacy i recommend highly!!! read more

That's right kids-give CVS the finger and forget about all of those trips searching through the poorly organized aisles only to find that toilet paper is out of stock. Walgreens has arrived to provide you and your loved ones with all of those last minute items that you need, and at affordable prices. Oh, what? Cottonelle is at least a buck cheaper here than at CVS? That's because God loves Walgreens and hates CVS. Also, you can get coffee here and they have a way better selection of hair dye. The sales assistants also tend to be less angry. This review is just for the pharmacy. I've gone to the pharmacy for the last 4 months now and I've officially had it. It's the most horrible customer service experience ever, with some of the most intellectually inept pharmacists. My last straw happened when, after dropping off a routine monthly prescription, I was told it would be a 15 minute wait. That was fine, nothing out of the ordinary. Fast forward 1.5 HOURS of the dumb, dumb, ignorant pharmacist and tech stringing me along, promising it would be ready in "literally 2 minutes" and then "losing" my prescription behind the counter. One of the asshats had thrown it away by accident -- a pharmacist threw away a prescription. There were 7 other people waiting, all of whom were greatly inconvenienced. There were 5 pharmacists and techs behind the counter, yet only ONE was working the counter. They are slow, incompetent, horrible people. read more

Love Walgreens. Had one in my hometown and when I moved into my place apartment in the city it was just around the corner. The people are friendly. The prices are often at least a dollar if not more, cheaper than CVS. The selection is great. No comparison to CVS, just plain better. read more

Was a great store and staff, especially compared to its CVS neighbor (what a miserable place) BUT they apparently succeeded in getting a liquor license and what do they do .... saw multiple bottles of extremely large and cheap (ie. like $5) bottles of wine. Wow, thanks Walgreens, way to be a good neighbor to the locals .. what happens now, increased vagrancy in search of a cheap high? More drunk college kids? I mean, you couldn't have taken it up a notch .. it's not like we have a decent liquor store on the West End (since Wine Specialist closed .. and they never sold the cheap jugs Walgreens now pushes), you could have cornered the market but you went cheap. It's Walgreens. This should've been a sure thing. I found the service to be subpar. Three employees were standing behind the counter talking, gossiping, and/or catching up with each other, while patrons walk around the store and some looking for assistance. I personally found someone in the cosmetic area. The words to my question barely came out of my mouth and the employee rudely pointed and snapped "yea, there!" I am fighting a cold and this was excruciatingly aggravating. The next time I have a layover in DC, I will try CVS. Sorry but first impressions of this local Walgreens made a lasting impression. Great for when starbucks is closed and ya just gotta have your favorite caramel, mocha, or vanilla frappuccino. Also, it serves my guilty pleasure of top ramen when there's no ramen in the vicinities to be had. However, they never received their shipment of hot choco. Ohhh, I'm enthused that they now offer a photo service. I need to print some to decorate my office cube with so it looks like an actual human being works within those quarters rather than a robot/spambot. *insert scary grin* read more

DO NOT HAVE PICTURES PROCESS HERE AT THIS LOCATION - the machines seems to be down more than it is up. I placed an order on 3/30. Here it is 4/2 and my pictures are still not ready. When I went online, kept say "processing". I finally called today - machine is down. Never received a call, email or any onther notification. Here I want the pictures to put in my Easter cards. Never will I order from this location again. Need to think twice about placing an order at this locaton. read more
