Friday, August 14 at approximately 8:32am. I entered the CVS 2000 Pennsylvania Ave NW shortly after leaving the GW hospital. I came in for the pharmacy to fill my prescription but the were closed, opens at 9am. Soon as I walked in the security guard officer Myers began to follow me upstairs. I saw that the pharmacy was hasn't opened yet but there are seats available in front of the pharmacy. I decided to sit and wait because I had only about 20mins before they opened. The security asked if I needed help and I told her that I was waiting for the pharmacy to open. She started to walk away but I overheard her say in the radio she was carrying that I looked dirty so they better watch me. I told her I don't need to steal. I showed her my prescription paper and she refused to even look at it. I started to walk around the store to wait my time out and to also get away from the guard. She proceeded to follow me into each aisle. Once the pharmacy opened, I grabbed my prescription and proceeded to leave the store. The security guard followed me out the store telling me to not come back. She started recording me as I walked away, I yelled to her that I was definitely going to report her behavior as this is unacceptable. I am a paying customer who felt completely harassed. As part her of police or rules working at the CVs, I'm sure she was not supposed to be following into each aisle trying to intimidate me. Also I'm sure following me outside the store shouldn't be allowed. I felt endangered and humiliated in the eyes of the public. I expect this will be handled before I take legal matters into my hands. I did not steal anything but yet because I'm black I was followed in the store and out the store by security officer Myer. Keep in mind that this CVS is an urban one so it's smaller than what you may be used to. The aisles are a little narrower. It's also on GW's campus so items that college students love may be gone. When I popped in to get trash bags and Ziplock bags, the security guard was so friendly and helpful. read more

This store is a much better location than other stores I've been to because I can actually find the health and beauty products that I need. Also, I can appreciate the morning staff and the cleanliness of the store. Doesn't hurt to mention that it's located by Western Market so in case you're waiting on prescriptions, you can stop by one of the stores in there and enjoy some food or a sweet treat. Lol read more

I somehow always end up here when they're playing Taylor Swift. This location is much bigger than the CVS around five minutes away and has a second story. The employees are polite and the exterior and interior are both pretty clean. This trip I was looking for something really specific and ended up going to two different employees for help as the first one sort of just gave me a guess of where the item would be (it turned out they didn't carry the item). Even still, would definitely choose this spot over the other CVS if you're looking for more variety. The interior is a lot brighter and oddly enough the receipts for this one are a little longer. read more

This is one of several CVS stores near the downtown DC area. It's much larger than the one on 19th and Penn NW. I like this one mostly because when it's raining or snowing or cold or windy weather, you can cut through the building that houses the Pennsylvania Avenue shops and get a whole block's worth of shelter (enter at 20th and cross all the way entering and exiting CVS and building through to 21st). My strategy never works without spending some money at CVS. This time I hit up the Coupon Center and found an irresistible deal on some toothpaste I desperately needed so I bought a tube for $2.50 and got $2.00 in ExtraCare Bucks back. Sweet deal! This location has two floors, is quite cramped, and has several self-checkout kiosks. I went up to a cashier for some human interaction, and the guy behind the register was fast, friendly, and helpful. read more

My 12-year-old daughter and I stopped in to grab a few travel items and water... we were followed around the store like a hawk the entire time. The security guard and 2 employees actually waited at the entrance/exit for us to leave... they were ready to pounce only to realize, after the guard followed us out the door, that no alarm bells were going off and we didn't steal anything. The staff are generally nice, but the store is extremely understaffed. There is usually 0 or 1 cashier at hand, even though there are staff walking around the store. Sometimes when there is no cashier I am told to just use a self-serve machine. There are 4 self-serving machines and at any given time at least one is not working. Moreover, many of their products are dusty. read more

I truly,truly want to like this location but due to a variety of factors it's become one of my least favorite. Centrally located in foggy bottom and one of the best stocked locations, it's dragged down by most of its employees who walk the line between incompetence and straight up rudeness. My favorite employee enjoys ogling customers and telling them how beautiful they look (trust me when you're sitting there trying to buy cereal, the last thing you'd want is to have some rando giving you elevator eyes). Today though, after focusing on avoiding contact with said employee, I was rung up by a woman who apparently never processed coupons before. She scanned it, but didn't approve it, I guess? Anyway, she continued to ring me up full price for my stuff. Petty of me, but little things like this happen all the time. It's snowballed to the point that it's just enough. There are definitely a few awesome employees here, but most people tend to be totally clueless that work here. read more

Base on the location, this place tends to run out of things really quick and if you want to use GWorld the line is a bit long. So if you don't use gworld the self-check out line is much faster. Quick snacks are eating items are gathered in the 1st floor while important and other essential items are all in 2nd floor. Very rarely they open a cashier on the 2nd floor. read more

A much better CVS is just two blocks away on Vermont at L. This one is on the corner of 15th and K, across from McPherson Square. The store feels cramped. I recommend going to the pharmacy checkout instead-- it's in the back of the store. I wish I could tell you a good time of day to go here, but I haven't found one yet. This CVS is on the smaller size despite being two stories and does not offer as many different things as some of the larger stores you can find elsewhere in DC. Thankfully, it has most of your basic, everyday pharmacy and convenience store items. Due to it's location, it caters to the GW undergrad crowd, i.e. sells a variety of dorm necessities (laundry baskets, storage tubs/organizers, kitchenette supplies, etc. all year). Downstairs has your school/office supplies, home goods, cleaning materials and equipment, seasonal goodies and decor, and food. During the school year on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, the food section can be pretty picked over thanks to hungry, snack-seeker undergrads, but the store is good about restocking the shelves during the mornings and afternoons. Upstairs houses the pharmacy, toiletry items, greeting cards, over-the-counter medications and first-aid items. The workers are usually helpful, friendly, and easy to find if you need assistance. The store is neat even with a high volume of people and it has several self-check out (yay for all the introverts out there!). read more

I hate this CVS. I hate the layout and the rude/incompetent/slow staff and really just everything about it. Who knew it could be such a challenge of physical will to force your way through the obstacle course that is this store just to grab a Diet Coke? Also, WHY did they think to put the pharmacy upstairs? It is the worst feeling in the world to drag your sick tush up those stairs to the pharmacy just to have it be CLOSED. Once I went to get pictures printed and the machine was broken so I had to come back, and then they forgot to print them, so I had to come back again. Pretty small location. I got a prescription filled here and true to their word, it was ready in 15 minutes. There were 2 self checkout lanes. The coupon feature gets a bit tripped up and you literally have to jam the coupon down there to make it work. Decent selection given the size of the store. read more

This pharmacy is horrific. The pharmacist is completely inattentive and will keep you waiting until you or the check-out pharmacist woman yells at him. You could be waiting in line to drop of a Rx for 30 minutes and he'll see you but continue piddling away on his computer until you tell him you need service. All CVS stores in this town seem to have problem pharmacies (except for Tenleytown) where it takes 30 minutes to drop off a Rx regardless of how long the line is. It's demoralizing. I'm switching all of my Rxs to Walgreens, even though it's out of my way, because I can't be bothered with their antics anymore. I would recommend that others who value efficiency and normal human interactions do the same. read more

Decently stocked CVS, so at least it fulfills its purpose. HOWEVER, be warned that it's more expensive than most of its counterparts. Because the store accepts the GW GWorld card (which charges a hefty percentage), they hike up the prices at least 10%. It's very convenient for students, so the lines are always pretty long. The only good thing about this CVS is its location, being a GW student myself. Other than that, the pharmacists are completely incompetent. I have gone repeatedly to the pharmacy to find that they don't have my medication in stock and to come back again later. Additionally, even after explaining that there was a discrepancy on my insurance with my DOB, they told me the next day that they couldn't fill the prescription. When I do have questions about my medication, they can't seem to answer it correctly. I am usually patient, but it shouldn't take almost a week to fill a prescription. Go find another pharmacy that actually appreciates your business. read more

Worst CVS I've ever been to! First of all they're understaffed in the pharmacy They are the busiest CVS on the GW campus and they should have more employees working there. The CVS is not open weekends, which is aggravating especially as most people who go there are college students. However, worst of all they are lazy! Every time I've been there they claim not to have received my prescription from my Doctor even though my Doctor's office always calls or faxes my prescriptions in. Then i have to call my office again and have them call in the orders again because the employees working at this CVS are the stupidest people I know. Today, I went to pick up a prescription that was faxed in two days ago and the lady tells me that they hadn't checked the fax machine and hadn't known that there was a prescription. How could you not check the fax machine for 2 days?? Finally, the issue is resolved and they call me to tell me that they ran out of the drug I need and won't have it ready until 2 pm tomorrow. THAT MEANS IT TAKING THEM FOUR DAYS TO FULFILL A SIMPLE PRESCRIPTION!!! SUCH INCOMPETENCE! Go to the CVS at 2125 E Street instead. It is much better. read more

I was at this CVS Pharmacy store ( near the Foggy Bottom metro/George Washington University in Washington D.C.)less than 36 hours ago. The pros; there were some unique items that I hadn't previously seen inside of a CVS store before such as; a 10.2 ounce Garnier Fructis Curl Nourish Butter Cream (leave in treatment conditioner with coconut, jojoba, and macadamia oils), Garnier Whole Blends coconut oil and coconut butter leave in hair conditioner, a decent set of affordable earings, nutella cups to go, and some Quaker brand girl scout thin mint granola bars. One of the employees near the hair section came up to me in an enthusiastic manner to see if I needed any help. The self-checkout machine I used worked ok. read more

SUMMARY: One of the best CVSes in DC?? FULL STORY: Ok, ok. Maaaaybe the prices are a little high. And mayyyybe the staff can border on a little less-than-pleasant. BUT in the city of a thousand CVSes, this is still my favorite! So much cleaner, brighter, better organized, conveniently-located, and more pleasant in general than the other ones around the area. Two stories, with a giant health/beauty section upstairs. That's probably the best part of the store. Right across from Founding Farmers, so while you're waiting the inevitable 45 min for a table, you can pick up your new toothbrush. Horrible store, horrible location. They never have whatever you're looking for -- even if it was there the last time you went in when you didn't need it. Shameful. Today it was hot and the freezers were leaking. They are always out of stock with something. This store needs a serious overhaul. Of course, the downtown area is inundated with CVS stores. Avoid this place if you have a choice as customer service and management is non-existent. This place would make a great setting for a hidden camera show because they are so awful - it is almost funny. The staff is consistently lazy and spend more time talking to one another than helping customers. On a recent occasion I stood waiting for service, I was only customer at check out while a few staff members huddled around the register having a conversation. I was there again a couple of days later. There was no one at the checkout, so I went to use the self checkout. One of my items did not come up at the sale price so I hit the button for staff assistance. Unbeknownst to me a woman was there not wearing a CVS shirt or name tag. After several minutes of waiting for assistance I asked if she was an employee. Only then did she offer help with my issue. This store is right in the center of the GW campus so there is no lack of patrons for this store. This is where students go for all their needs. Customer service is abhorrent. Is CVS aware?
