I contacted Paul along with another hardwood flooring company as part of an insurance bid for a teak water damaged floor replacement and Paul's bid was the most competitive and preferrable to both myself, my employer (I'm a property manager) and the insurance company. During the time I worked with Paul and his crew they were friendly, professional, punctual, courteous and knew their trade 100%. Just to make things trickier for Paul the job included customized baseboards which he had to match without a sample, and of course they came out perfectly. Paul's crew communicated via text/call and were always on time, were great at explaining issues and made sure I knew what was happening every step of the way, and checked with me constantly to make sure I was happy with the progress/outcome. We had 3 bids for a 1,400 square feet flooring with 23 steps and 3 landings. We also live in the mainland, and will have to depend solely on the contractor we chose, and all our materials were shipped from the mainland as well. We decided to work with Paul based on his bid which the other 2 bids had non disclosure items such as moving the furniture which the condo came furnished, and extra cost for the baseboard molding which we decided to also replace throughout the whole unit. As any remodeling jobs, there will be issues - things that will come up that the unit builder took a shortcut which is very common in tract condos. I will say Paul made it very easy and worry free with the hang ups that we had. He worked around the hang ups that came up with the job after removing the existing carpets and baseboards. The existing tile only butted against the baseboard and not the wall - the stairs had to be modified by code to work with the stair nose that match with our new flooring. There's also moving all the furniture and working around it. Not one time did Paul make any negative comment nor complained. He communicated to us about the issues, and suggested solutions, and move forward. Paul and his crew were left alone to do and finish the job until we flew in for moving week. The floor turned out beautiful. We were impressed how the flooring updated our Unit. It blended and match with the new furniture we purchased with the unit. The baseboards were clean, and nicely done. The stairs turned out just as nice. Overall, Paul and his crew did a professional job, and I want to thank Paul for making our relationship stress free and no worries especially since our communication was via phone and e-mail. I would recommend this company. I was dealing with Paul Maxwell and I find him to be kind and ethical. Initially when I wasn't happy with the flooring, Paul worked hard to ensure I was happy with the flooring and he produced the final project beyond the scope of my expectations. He immediately fixed my flooring and worked with my schedule amidst dealing with my frustrations. Update after work was completed. Changing my rating to 4 stars now and this time Paul and his team were very responsive and everything turned out fine. Seems like Paul is going to take the business to the next level and cares about his customers. ----------- I am going to update my review based on some recent activity with Paul and his crew at Walk on Wood. Let me start by saying that the floor is in need of being replaced because of water damage that occurred recently. We are working with a team here that uses Walk on Wood as one of their supplier/contractors for this type of thing and because they installed the original floor, it made sense for them to reach out. That being said, I like to use Yelp as a genuine tool to help people understand the businesses that they are dealing with as that is what I look to Yelp for, an honest experience overview. So on that note, Paul recently reached out to us to take care of the issue we had with the master bathroom transition strip. Now mind you, we hadn't heard from him the entire time (years) since I wrote the original review. And we hadn't heard from him prior to the review, all the times I reached out to him practically begging him to take care of the issues that we were having. When he did reach out he mentioned the Yelp review I wrote and asked if I would consider removing it. I'm a reasonable person and I thought about it but that wouldn't be fair to you, the reader/potential customer. The fact is he made it clear to me that Mike is no longer in the picture an eluded to the fact that Mike was the issue. That may very well be and it may very well be that Paul now is handling things appropriately and providing 5 star service as others have written. I know the guy he sent out to do the work on the transition strip was awesome! We still need to have them replace the floor so until that is complete, I can't give a 100% solid answer on this. I do harbor some residual feelings from being ignored and lied to initially. Maybe Mike was the wizard behind the curtain pulling the strings but we got caught in the middle and that is not ok and it is all about the company, "Walk on Wood"...regardless of who owns/runs it now. Let's hope it is a great company now. Perhaps Paul should change the name a bit or put something on the web site stating that he now owns the company and is sorry for any past miscommunication etc? So, right now, I will change my rating from a 1 star to a 3 star. Once finished, if it all goes well, I might consider a 4 star, but I can never give them a 5 star, not after what we have been through. It wouldn't be fair to us or to any potential future client. The worst thing any contractor can do is ignore a client that they serviced, and break promises they made. And Walk on Wood did this to us, with Paul as the spokes person at that time. read more

Paul was very professional and easy to communicate with. His installation estimate was thorough, accurate and below the price quoted by the "name brand" flooring stores. The hardwood floor installation included leveling of the existing subfloor, flooring on the second story and stairs, finish molding, and cleanup. The work started and finished in the time frame promised and the final product was better than we imagined. Paul and his crew were wonderful to work. If I could give Paul Wood below 0 stars I would. He/His crew destroyed our house after we left them for two weeks to instool wood flours in our bedrooms. We clearly instructed Paul to isolate the area he was going to work on with plastic and to not cut the wood in house. Needless to say he did exactly opposite. They cut the wood directly in the house and did not protect anything and even took our cloths out of the closets and let them outside not protected. Exposures to wood dust are addressed in specific OSHA standards for General Industry and it is health hazard. When we returned we had to sleep in the hotel and have deep cleaning crew work for 8 hours ( 5 people) and $2000 dollars to clean the small wood dust and peaces of wood all over the furniture, walls, baby furniture, bad mattresses, window curtains, etc. They also misplace all our furniture peaces, our clothes outside of closets and all other things. Our sofas, chairs furniture, walls and light fixtures; windows etc. was full of wood peaces and wood dust. Our clothes were infused with wood dust and wood peaces. Even area where he did not work was infused with wood dust and wood peace because they did not simply close the doors. Do not trust Paul Wood with your house and your property. read more

We can't say enough good things about Walk on Wood. First and foremost their quality of workmanship was absolutely flawless! The owner Paul, is an affable Irishman, who really knows what he is doing, and saw to it that we were able to accomplish all that we wanted - an absolute delight to work with. Our job was not an easy one. We had to match an existing floor in our downstairs for our upstairs with a not so common wood. The stairs leading up are curved, and to get the curve right & the rounded edged which we chose to match perfectly, were also difficult. And heavy furniture had to be moved w/ a minimum disruption to our day to day lives as we lived in the house while the new floor was being installed. Their workman (Neil & Albert) really know what they are doing and were clearly interested in getting everything as perfect as possible. They went through the process methodically & efficiently. And they worked very clean. Not only is wood far better looking than carpeting, if you saw the dirt remnants in the carpet that we replaced, you would realize the very real health benefits. And our knees thank us everyday that we didn't install rock-hard tile. We highly recommend Walk on Wood for expert craftsmanship, communication and efficiency!! read more
