SUPER COMPANY. I have used movers before but WALK'S MOVING & STORAGE (Altoona a, PA) was the BEST. Other movers were good, but this company was the best. They arrived precisely on time--8 AM. They arrived at the correct location and were ready--doors open, ramp in place, etc.--to started immediately. They knew EXACTLY how to prepare a 6' grand for proper moving--and they moved it without a problem (and no damage whatsoever). They then loaded the furniture and boxes with the same care and efficiency. At the destination they followed the item markings (Kitchen, Bedroom 3, TV room, etc.) and everything was placed where I wanted it to be. Each member of the crew was pleasant, professional in appearance, and professional in their use of language. The final price was EXACTLY what had been quoted to me long before the move. I'd stay away! Owner was unprofessional and added $4000 in charges. The business owner, Gary, does not communicate effectively and took no responsibility for his mistakes. The interstate move for our parents was an awful experience that could have been avoided. Gary did not take into account emails sent well in advance of moving day and did not communicate to clear up any misunderstandings. My parents ended up paying Gary over $4000 more than quoted and the move required an unplanned separate trip on a different day, due to him sending too small a truck. This caused a domino effect of problems for my parents to figure out at the very last minute. Gary's explanation was that my dad was "confused." However my dad's emails explained all very clearly; Gary was the one confused due to his lack of attention. Then it took TEN days for the 2nd delivery of their things. Instead of being apologetic, acknowledging his mistakes which we would've respected, Gary blamed all on the customer, literally claiming nothing was his fault. I'd definitely stay away from this company and go with someone more highly rated. read more

I didn't want to give this a "Star" period. Awful company. I called about pricing first, spoke to the secretary she wanted list of what was wanting moved and I told her in DETAIL everything i wanted moved.She said that is fine. Took 2,days until shed call me back with price knowing the date I had to move out since I sold my home, and reason for call back was due to me who kept calling. Then on day of move half the things I told her on the list the driver said they couldn't move, ( in which he was rude the way he spoke to me) The movers were not professional and banged my antique furniture. Also it was a "rush job" with the movers reason they were banging my furniture around. Then to top it off my former neighbor (who's a decent man) imformed me hewatched one of the movers shoot heroin in my drive before knocking on my door while the other 2 watched!!! I recently had the difficult task of moving my mother to an assisted living facility. I no longer live in the Altoona area, so I asked FaceBook friends for mover recommendations. Every single person who had a recommendation recommended Walks, and now I know why! They were professional, respectful, and excellent facilitators. On the day of the move, they called me to see if it would be alright if they were to arrive EARLIER (!) than the scheduled arrival time. We were packed up, moved, and unpacked, with furniture arranged to my specifications, well before I had imagined the packing up phase would even be completed. AND (I started a new paragraph to get your attention): they charged me LESS than what they originally quoted. I currently live in Philadelphia, so I KNOW good (and bad) customer service from experience. If you are in Philadelphia, you want your move handled by Mambo Movers. I was quoted $855 for our move we recently made. That was including fuel, travel, and mileage and two hours of physical labor. That was a great deal, however we seem to of run into an issue here. I spoke with a woman the day prior to our move who did in fact confirm the only additional cost I would be paying is if we went over in physical labor outside of our two hours. We did not. The movers loaded up the truck in one hour and 2 minutes, and unloaded it in 53 minutes. I time stamped their start and end time and had multiple witnesses present at loading and unloading who can verify this. The movers themselves were phenomenal, however the older gentleman who was just barking orders at the movers was quite rude. He first ran up to me insisting I had "triple what was on my inventory" which yes, I did. However it was not things I asked them to move as I also utilized two SUV's and two sedan's for the move. We only needed the movers to handle the bigger things such as furniture and bigger boxes and we had the rest. Also, his inventory sheet was well out dated. I gave an inventory list months in advanced and changed it as time went and we added things and removed things twice which I get, can be annoying however welcome to customer service and moving. The items listed on his inventory had items I had removed at least a month and a half prior to this and I spoke with a woman on the phone who confirmed she would update the inventory, clearly It was not updated which is no fault of mine. Upon getting the bill, we were being charged for three hours of service. He said we needed to pay him for traveling from Clearfield to our old house, and then our new house to Altoona which was not disclosed at all to me since the woman the day prior verified the only additional charges would be any OT of physical labor. I did not feel like getting into an argument with this man as he was already incredibly uncomfortably close to my face in my new house so I just paid it and would call in the morning to clear this up. I called the following morning and the woman I had spoken to many times before had verified correct, I should not be paying them for travel, it is included in the rate already quoted as the distance was already known. She said she would talk to him that afternoon and get back to me. that was 5 business days ago. I have called multiple times and not received an answer, I feel like at this point their answering machine does more explaining then they do. So if we are paying them for travel at the end when they tell you that you don't, does that mean the job before me didn't have to pay for them to travel away from their house? Since we have to pay that? Or the job after us I have to pay for them to get to that job too? If so I am not okay with paying other people's moving expenses. I am owed an explanation, and an hour and a half of labor back so we don't have to bring this any further than it has to go. read more

Boycott Walks Moving!! So this is the story. We hired Walks Moving to move us from Virginia to Altoona. They asked us some basic questions about the amount of boxes and the amount of furniture that we had as well as miscellaneous items and they quoted us a price. But as I got into packing I realized that I had more boxes than I originally thought and I started having concerns that all of my things wouldn't fit in the truck. So I was completely up front and honest with them and took photos of everything, every room, every box, every piece of furniture. And I took a video of the contents of the garage. I texted all of the photos and video to them. They reassured me that everything would be fine and would fit so we proceeded. But they also charged us several hundred more dollars for the move because of the extra stuff, I was fine with that as long as they were able to get everything in the truck. Our moving date was a Saturday, they called me the Thursday before, asking if they could come on Friday because they were coming from Florida and it would be helpful to them. This meant that I lost a day of packing but I felt bad if they had to go the whole way to Altoona and backtrack again to Virginia so I accommodated them to be kind.. Now in all fairness I will say that they showed up almost on time and they worked fast and efficiently. They were also polite. They did drop a few of my boxes down a flight of stairs, but maybe this is a common occurrence in moves. I don't know I've never been moved by a company before. As I suspected, they were unable to fit all of my stuff in the moving truck. They offered no solution to get the rest of my belongings to PA. Christopher and I had to make two subsequent trips to Virginia to load stuff in our truck to bring it up to Pennsylvania. I placed several calls to Walk's to try to get this issue resolved. I didn't think it was fair that I would pay so much extra for the move when they didn't actually move all of the things that I paid extra for. I wanted a partial refund. I think it's only fair. Now mind you they moved us into this house in December. It has taken me that long to receive a return call from them. I explained the situation to Gary Walk, the owner and mentioned to him that he was referred to me by some family friends. I then asked him if he knew any of my family. I told him my maiden name. He said he knew some of my family and I mentioned that those were my cousins but my father was Dick DiAndrea and I said he was the guy that was in radio and television for many years. At that point the guy became irate and said that I was threatening him because I had mentioned that my father was in radio. I SWEAR to you all- I did not threatened him. I was honestly hoping that he knew my dad, and liked my dad, and that it would create good will in getting this resolved. I was in a grocery store during this call and had my 9 year old daughter with me so I didn't get loud or raise my voice or say what I really wanted to say to him. Well, I didn't threaten him until he called me a bitch and, yes, then I threatened him. I told him I would tell everybody I knew how I was treated and then he called me a few other choice words. Then he said that he didn't like my father, that nobody liked my father, and he didn't give a shit about me and he would not be giving me one cent back. I have NEVER experienced such unprofessional behavior from someone. EVER. . And before he hung up he called me a cunt. . I absolutely never get dramatic on Facebook and post shit like this, but when somebody, who is supposed to be professional and is the owner of a company makes accusations like that and proceeds to call me names as well as saying things about my dead father. I had an antique grand piano in Johnstown that I wanted moved from a third floor room and placed in their storage facility. Gary drove from Altoona to Johnstown at no charge to take measurements to see if the job could even be done, and to provide me with an estimate. Since his fee was very reasonable, I hired him and set up a moving date and time. His workers arrived on time and did an excellent job in moving the piano down three flights of narrow stairways. They really know what they're doing and I would highly recommend them for moving a piano. read more

Recently used this mover from one local apartment to another...the boys worked hard, but sloppy...broke a few things, didn't put the boxes in the correct rooms... I am disabled and can't lift more than 5 lbs...I was adiment about putting boxes in the correct places....took them over 2 weeks to repair a broken chair...cracked a tiffany lamp shade, offered to give me 10cents a pound for it....I'm sure they won't be back to take down 2 flights of stairs the boxes that were clearly marked for the storage room...but what upset me the most was the frequent phone calls I had to make to get some one to talk too, said that they were so busy.....and the attitude needs a big adjustment....if you value your belongings, don't use Walks... read more
