You know the usual runaround you get when you try to buy, trade or sell a car to car dealers. The garbage tactics they use can be so tiring... and so OLD SCHOOL if CarMax is the new way to buy/trade/ or sell a car. Although I've purchased and sold many cars, this was my first dealings with CarMax and it was unlike any "dealer" experience I've ever had. We saw a car for sale online from a CarMax store in Tampa, FL that was exactly what we were looking for. We had a choice to drive to Tampa (a 3 1/2 hour drive) or have CarMax ship the car for $100 to our local Jensen Beach, FL store. We hesitantly chose to pay the fee. A nice touch, the company kept us in the loop on when the car shipped, arrived and was ready for viewing. We stopped in, viewed, provided our drivers license and drove the car and found it to be everything the ad stated. We decide to buy the car on the spot. Here's where it gets interesting. Unlike car dealerships, there was no haggling, hand offs to the finance manager, hard sells, etc that are the usual games car dealers play. Simply here's our price, take her out, if you like the car, sign here. If not, check around, compare prices, (which we had done previously and their price was on the low end of all we saw) and if you like it, sign here. Your new (used) car will be ready for you in a few minutes (which it was)! Have a trade in (which we did)? Great let's look at it, take some pictures and here's our offer (good for 7 days at any CarMax store). End result we traded in our old used car and got our new (used) car in one painless transaction! THE COMPARISON: This is where CarMax really stands out... We also had a car that we wanted to sell straight up. It was a Chevy Equinox that had only 4,000 miles on it. We knew that because of its like new condition and really low mileage, it would be pretty desirable and bring a good price. We decided to first, get a bid from Wallace Chevrolet in Stuart, Fl. Clearly the used car manager did not think the great condition or low mileage was important. After going through all the typical sales garbage they throw at you.... "How much do you want for the car?" (Dumb question that has no relation to how much they'll pay). "The new model is redesigned so there's not much call for this year" (you can stop the set up and just give me the price you'll pay)! "White's not really a good color" (BS, this is Florida, do I look like I was born yesterday?) "This is the best price you'll get anywhere but, it's only good for 24 hours" (Right dude!). After all the typical car dealer garbage laid on us, they gave us a price of $23,500. What was Carmax's (no bs) good for 7 days price? $25,000. Guess who now owns our Chevy Equinox? You bet... CarMax! Why anyone would go to a dealer to sell/trade or buy a used car is beyond me.

    Coming to this dealership has been frustrating from the start. It would be nice if customers didn't…read morefeel like they were being misled or given inaccurate information when making major purchases. There needs to be more accountability. I purchased my used Jeep Wrangler about a year and a half ago and also purchased an extended warranty that was clearly explained to include service coverage so I would not be paying out-of-pocket. At the time of purchase, I specifically confirmed that I could go to any Wallace dealership for basic services like oil changes and tire rotations. I was told absolutely yes -- the only exception being if there was a vehicle issue that required a Jeep dealership, which is completely understandable. I live next to Wallace Hyundai, while the Jeep location is 30 minutes away on a good traffic day -- and anyone who drives U.S. Route 1 knows that's not always predictable. A few months after purchasing the vehicle, the check engine light came on. While diagnosing that issue, I was told I needed four new tires. This made absolutely no sense considering I had just purchased the vehicle and work from home, so my mileage is very low. I declined the tires and discussed it with my husband, who works on million-dollar Dassault Falcon jets -- the same type owned by Taylor Swift and formerly by Jimmy Buffett. Needless to say, he knows what he's looking at. He confirmed I only needed two tires, and even that was not urgent. After raising the concern with customer service, I ultimately received two new tires at no charge. However, when I later asked the original service advisor why I was told I needed four tires but only given two, there was no explanation -- just silence. The next issue involved trying to schedule routine service. I requested to book my oil change and tire rotation at Wallace Hyundai, since I had been told I could go to any Wallace dealership for basic service. After calling twice, I was then told I could only go to the Jeep dealership -- which directly contradicts what I was told at the time of purchase. When I went to the Jeep dealership for service, I thankfully had a different advisor who was professional and helpful. On a prior visit, I had asked for a simple oil change reminder sticker to be placed on the windshield since I don't drive often. The previous advisor refused and told me to "just check the percentage on the screen." This time, the new advisor couldn't believe I had been denied something so basic and placed the reminder sticker on the vehicle himself. I also attempted to speak with management regarding the conflicting information about where I could service my vehicle, but that concern was essentially brushed aside. At this point, it feels like there is no accountability within the building. When customers raise valid concerns, they should not feel dismissed. Moving forward, I will be taking matters into my own hands and changing my warranty coverage to one that allows me to service my vehicle at any Jeep dealership without confusion or contradiction. I simply expect transparency, consistency, and honesty -- especially when making a major purchase.

Recently, I purchased a Cadillac from AutoNation on 45th Street in West Palm Beach and had a wonderful experience. I've shared my experience on Google and Yelp, where I have over 635,000 followers. I'd like to bring to your attention a recent experience I had at your Wallace Jeep location in Stuart. I drove an hour and a half to meet with one of your salespeople who had quoted me via text on my trade-in. I agreed to the deal, and he asked me to come in immediately. Unfortunately, when I arrived, he hadn't secured approval for the trade-in offer. The biggest disappointment was dealing with your sales manager, Tony N. After an hour of small talk, he walked away, promising to see what he could do. Thirty minutes later, he sent the salesperson back to tell me there was nothing he could do to honor their initial offer. Tony didn't even have the courtesy to speak to me himself or say goodbye. In total, I spent over six hours at your dealership that day. That evening, I called back ready to buy the vehicle at their asking price, only to be told it had just been sold to another customer. Ironically, the salesperson called me today to say the other deal fell through and asked how he could earn my business on that same vehicle. Frankly, Mr. Wallace, you and your team should be ashamed to have these two individuals representing your name. Their dishonesty and typical "used car salesman" antics were truly disappointing. After that experience, I went on to buy another Cadillac at AutoNation in West Palm Beach, and I'm glad I did. Please, I urge you to look into your Stuart location and ensure your team is upholding the reputation you've worked so hard to build. Tony did your empire no justice--I'm actually embarrassed for you. I wish you all the best, but I wanted to share this experience directly with you. All the respect to you, Mr. Wallace. Gregory G.
