The champagne upon check-in in the lobby beautifully decorated for Christmas was such a perfect welcome. Being so close to Charles Bridge and the Malostranska subway stop made getting around very easy. And yet the hotel was quiet. Caution exiting the hotel driveway through! Look both ways. The staff at breakfast were fantastic and took great care of us. We enjoyed the buffet most days but the menu items looked delicious. We enjoyed our free beer sample and a cocktail at the bar in the Refectory. Our only complaint would be that the room was warm for our taste and we couldn't quite figure out how to get the A/C on (or if it was an option). The bathroom was especially warm, we called it "the spa" We slept with the windows open and all was well. If you're looking for a luxury stay, you can't do much better.

This is a true luxury hotel, so expect all the little nice extras you should from a luxury hotel…read more The concierge folks are great; helpful in many ways. Americans, who have never seen the kind of coffee makers they have in the room might need orientation to prepare coffee correctly. The restaurant is very good with one glaring exception: at breakfast, fried eggs ordered "over easy" are always burnt. If you order them over-easy, they're burnt on both sides. If you explain to the waiter that the eggs should not be cooked quickly on such high heat, and then he goes to the kitchen and has the cook do your "over-easy" eggs again, the eggs will still be burnt on one side, but not on the other. It's amazing that a luxury hotel this great in so many ways cannot hire a breakfast chef to adequately cook fried eggs! As they are perpetually doomed to fail with fried egg orders, I recommend you order the poached, egg and salmon breakfast item instead, since for some strange reason, they actually do know how to make poached eggs.

Hotel at the Big Boot - Looking out the window towards the German Embassy

We chose to book at Hotel at the Big Boot for many reasons, not just the interesting name alone…read more The hotel is located in the Mala Strana district of Prague, just across the street from the German Embassy. It's housed in a 17th century home that spans several floors of rooms, offering all the old world charm you'd expect with lots of modern conveniences tossed in. The owner/operators and their staff are extremely friendly and exceedingly helpful. They arranged for a car to pick us up at the airport to relieve the pressure of navigating cabs in a foreign language within minutes of arrival. Upon arrival, we were welcomed, checked in and escorted to our amazing room within minutes. The room featured two windows surrounded by vines and flowers that opened to overlook the square below and the German Embassy. The furniture was older, but extremely comfortable. The bathroom was refurbished with modern fixtures, including a nice glass shower and rain shower head. Breakfast each morning was an informal affair with the staff spending time with each guest. The offerings included cereals, pastries and other items on the table, as well as cooked-to-order eggs and breakfast meats. There was lots of coffee and juice as well. Overall, a wonderful breakfast option until we learned our way around. The staff helped with tour bookings, cabs, restaurant recommendations and reservations and even some cultural conversation over a glass of wine on a cold, rainy night. When we were ready to depart, they arranged for a car to take us to the train station and offered water and fruit for the trip. We can only categorize our stay at House at the Big Boot as wonderful and would recommend this hotel to anyone without reservations.

First the reason why we have this hotel a 3 star review. The bathroom shower did not drain, and…read moresmelled very bad like sewer. It was gross, at the same time we didn't want to complain until the end because we didn't want to be disturbed by plumbers or whoever coming into our room to fix it. So we just kind of sucked it up until the end of our 4 day stay. Also the WiFi is very weak, it goes in and out, and you cannot work. The breakfast gets 7 out of 10 from me. Some things were great, some were eh. Now to the good! First of all, the location of this hotel cannot be beat. ITS RIGHT NEXT TO A CASTLE!!!!! The design and layout of the hotel is stunning! A very European feel with lots of historic medieval details and charm. The art in the hallways is kind of creepy, but I get that it goes with the time period. The ceiling is stunning!!! The bed is a bit too firm but the sheets have a great feel! The TV only has Czech and Russian channels, with the exception of cnn or bbc eng I think. Basically nothing to watch but that's ok! Overall I would say this is a good value for your money. It's a great experience and is sure to wow you, however the bathroom sewer smell needs to be gone. Also I just read some other reviews on booking.com and they also complain about the same smell. In response to other complaints the hotel claims that they got someone to fix the problem right away. But I'm here now, and trust me, it's not fixed.

Perfectly located just on the other side of the bridge (near Mala Strana side). There are beautiful views of the Charles Bridge from the room that is really quaintly decorated with a rustic chic vibe. 15 minute walk and you're in the heart of Old Town in front of the clock tower. The workers were super friendly and maid service was done fairly prompt each day (although one day, I snoozed too long and my room wasn't made that day). Definitely recommend this hotel!

There was a French music/food/wine festival going on outside the hotel that was great. We opened the windows and heard great music the whole time we were in the room. Except at night they didn't play music late. The hotel is the perfect location. You can jump on the Charles Bridge and go into the old town or you can wander the streets behind the hotel and go up to the castle. It is all in walking distance. You can also go around the hotel and sit by the river which is a nice experience. The staff was nice. They even removed the expense of one of our nights at the hotel cause our flight got delayed and we missed the first night. I would go back again for sure!
