This is such a great little shop! It reminds me of a local, small-town business in a little neighborhood. Well, that is pretty much what it is! I've been in a few times for miscellaneous household projects, and the owner/manager/tall white haired guy that's always there, can always sense when you're looking for something or are in a conundrum. He comes right over and offers his help and direction. And he is so knowledgeable and helpful! I feel like my grandpa is helping me decide which product to use, or teaching me which is best, it's a wonderful little notion. I don't know what his name is yet, but he is a genuine soul, and I love that. They are a paint and blind store, mostly. But they do sell the other odds and ends you'd expect at a small, local hardware store. Some tools and random things you need to get jobs done around the house. Paint, wallpaper, blinds, and painting supplies abound. My favorite thing about Wallpaper City so far (aside from Grandpa) is that they handwrite and add up their receipts! I can't believe it. I haven't seen that in, well, maybe never. It strikes me as the cutest thing ever! Although, in this age, it isn't paper-friendly. Ahh! What the heck, it is cute and makes the transaction feel very personal, I like it a lot. I'll certainly be back, when there is something I know I can get here, instead of driving all the way to Home Depot and giving my money to big guy. Let's support small, local business! Rude! The First impression say it all. My very first time in this store and not only did I NOT get greeted but, nobody offered to help me. I have lived in the area for more than 10 years and recently lost a parent so decided to keep busy and remodel. Going in this store I was looking for wallpaper keep in mind nobody else was in the store, so it wasn't busy. Needless to say, I left and will not be going back. Love this store! Their staff is very helpful, both offering assistance, but also giving you space to mull over the numerous Benjamin Moore paint swatches. Each time I come to this store, they provide great recommendations in terms of color and the type of paint. For instance, what's the deal with Benjamin Moore Aura paint? Is it really that much better than the lower-cost Benjamin Moore paint options? Answer is no, especially if you're a slow painter like me. They give that advice eventhough they know they could make at least $15-20 more dollars off me if I buy the more expensive paint. Also feels great to support a local business instead of some of the larger home improvement stores where they don't know what they're talking about regarding paint. read more

When the first person wordlessly waves you on to another person whose first words upon looking at you are "I'm leaving in five minutes so.." i knew i was in trouble. Russ was pleasure to work with. As first time homebuyers, we had minimal knowledge about window treatment options and pricing. Russ helped us pick out the perfect shades at very reasonable prices. He is extremely friendly, diligent and honest, and we admire both him and his son for their work ethic. He also didn't charge us for one of the shades as he missed taking measurements of one of the windows. To top it, he offered lifetime warranty on all window treatments. You really can't get this level of service at any of the big box stores. Highly recommend Wallpaper city. read more

Rude, hostile staff Last week I entered this store looking to buy window shades. Much to my surprise and confusion, the female worker looked at me and immediately accused me of spilling paint outside their store and not informing their staff- leaving her to spend over an hour cleaning it up. She said this event took place a month ago, and blamed me because I had purchased a can of gray paint on that same day- and the paint outside their store was also gray. Therefore I did this???? The owner, Russ, caught my eye. I assumed he was going to apologize for his employee's outrageous behavior, but instead shouted " Why don't you just admit what you did!" I had nothing to admit- they were accusing the wrong person and I was deeply offended and angered by this accusation - based not on fact, but fantasy. My husband and I had been buying all of our paint from Wall Paper City for over 20 years. We will be looking to support another local paint store in my area where customers are treated with respect. read more

The best! My family has been coming here for decades, they all *really* know their stuff & carry quality products. An awesome local small business to support. If you're going to a paint store to be pampered & flattered I don't really know what to tell you.. I've never found them to be rude, just normal Bostonians who know what they're doing and will get you the products you need or point you in the right direction. Really unfriendly, unhelpful staff. In fact, they're downright rude. If you do manage to get someone's attention (they're often just chit-chatting between themselves behind the counter), God help you if you don't know exactly what you're looking for. I tried to ask about the difference between two different products and the lady there spoke to me like I was an idiot. This place is probably best left to the contractors. For the average homeowner, do yourself a favor and take yourself to your friendly neighborhood hardware store, 'cause Wallpaper City 'aint it. read more

So I've been in this place a half dozen times debating over paint colors and buying way too many samples. The first couple times I went, it was just the young man at the front desk (maybe 30s). Every interaction I've had with him has been less than ideal. DISCLAIMER: This is my personal opinion, but I feel he was condescending and that my questions were an inconvenience. I almost started going elsewhere because I was uncomfortable having to approach him. However, the two older men (50-60yo) are VERY helpful and patient with non contractor customers. read more
