They come over to you to ask you if you need anything (unlike big box hardware stores, where you have to track somebody down). The gentleman who helped me genuinely knew what was the best thing for what I needed, and help me find it. He carried it to the cash register for me, and helped me to my car! The customer service here is BEYOND! I was searching for a very specific size screw to attach pulls to dresser drawers and they took their time to find exactly what I needed. While they were working hard trying to find the right size screw, I looked around the store. I was asked about 5 times if I needed help or if I was looking for anything in particular. The project management under Dean and Jason really confirmed my belief that NK&B is a reliable, competent, and timely working organization. My circumstances were such that I couldn't be at home for most of the construction, and yet through phone and texts, I was able to stay abreast of the construction. But I did have the pleasure of encountering a woman by the name of Octavia today. She was so pleasant and should be the face of the company. I was here on 8/3/2021. I called ahead to make sure they sell bicycle locks. I rode my bicycle to the store and walked it inside when the "security" tells me to leave it in the "hallway". The hallway is the entrance of the store that features two layers of automatic sliding doors. It is not a safe space to leave a bicycle without a lock, hence my trip there in the first place. The "security" persists with me to leave my bicycle unattended as opposed to walking it in the aisle as I purchase my bike lock. I explain to him my last bicycle was stolen for the exact same reason and he persists. I ask to speak to the manager and all of a sudden everything is okay and I can bring my bicycle with me into the aisle to purchase a lock. Would not recommend. read more

Really bad experience from the moment I walked in! I've lived on Morton street my whole life and Norfolk Hardware store has always been conveniently close and decent customer service. I planned on getting two rakes and some garbage bags and figured I would bring my bookbag to put the garbage bags in to make the walk back to my easier while I carried the two racks. Right when I walked in I was immediately stopped by customer service/ cashiers and asked to turn in my bag. Which I completely understand if that is there new policy but there are no signs out front stating that policy so customers are aware. I also felt that the cashiers wouldn't have welcomed me if it wasn't for the bag that was on my back because of the random conversation they were having when I walked in. Anyway I reluctantly gave them my bag and went on my way to get what I needed, but as I was getting my items I noticed that there were Women with handbags and purses big enough to shove items from the store in there if they wanted. At that point I was pretty upset and when I was checking out my items and getting my bag I had asked "So Why don't you guys check in purses and handbags?". The young lady I had asked the question to had no idea and I could tell she didn't quite agree with it either. Then she directed me to a lady who seemed like the manager who asked me "How big was the purse?" And I stated big enough to fit a garden shovel in. Then she tried to make a joke and simply laughed me off and the rest of the cashiers continued on with there conversations. I completely understand the policy but the store has no signs and employees that can't properly explain the policy/ hold all customers to that policy! All and All don't come here if you don't want to feel like being accused/ suspected of stealing from the moment you walk in. read more

Relatively new to the neighborhood and I've been here probably 20-30 times. Every single time they ask if they can help. They are knowledgeable and literally will escort you around the store if needed until all of your items are taken care of. Great place for paint, odd tools and the basics. Seriously, go here if you don't want want to travel to Home Depot or you want some actual dialogue with someone who can help. Updated, still love this place but pleas, please get some lawn bags that can stay in tact for more than 2 day's...I go back every time expecting something different and every time the bags fail. Very convenient and super friendly staff. We were very pleased with the work fixing our windows' screens.

Although the product they delivered was great - their post-sales service is terrible. However the finish on what was delivered was not as ordered. So we returned some stock to them but we were never reimbursed the $300 we were owed. My wife tried several times for 9 months but never got the money back. I needed 3 room's redone and the price for just demo was ridiculous! By the time I pick cabinets f, flooring, fixtures and lights, the work would cost about what I could get on the market for my home ! Maybe I would be in the red on money ! The breakdown for the demo was ridiculous! The contractor did not even give suggestions or alternatives for the work to help us! Not to much choice in tiles for kitchens or baths! The kitchen designer we had did not ask if we had a budget until I told her the price was ridiculous! Not to many choices for counter tops! I would go somewhere else! I agree with a previous Yelper who said he was sorry he didn't know about them sooner. I have lived in the area afor 15 years and only started going to them about 1 year ago. The employees at Norfolk Hardware are some of the most helpful, knowledgeable and nice people I have ever met. Whether I am shopping for a 99 cent item or a major purchase, they take time and supply information and help when needed. Initially I though it was because I am a girl but it is consistant and professional. They really go the extra mile. I've been coming here for the past few years, the renovations look amazing but the customer service has dropped since then. The cashiers just stand around talking amongst themselves and don't greet customers as they come in & whoever's at the front counter is busy answering the phone and making overhead pages that no one seems to wanna answer. The employees on the floor also seem to just stand around and gossip instead of help customers. The check out process was even worse in my opinion. The "manager" or whatever her name is(I think I heard one of the cashiers call her Kyra/Myra?)- the lady who just stands at customer service - just stared at customers instead of helping the cashiers ring people up. Her mannerisms were also disturbing. The only reason I didn't give this review one star is because some of the cashiers were really pleasant (Maria & the Spanish cashier who just had her baby) as always & the manager Danny. They always make my visit semi enjoyable. (UPDATE: I like how the "owner" responded to this post by backhandedly throwing shade by saying how many positive reviews they've received on google. Well news flash, of course it's going to show what you want the world to see. I posted a review on google and it got deleted shortly after. During the "surge" of Covid-19 in Boston, this family-owned business was able to still provide stock to individuals and to commercial entities that needed to maintain a clean and disinfected place to shelter in. Long story short, I'm sad that I didn't know about Norfolk Hardware sooner. It has parking, but it's close enough for me to bike to for small items. It's a neighborhood store, but is large and has plenty of stuff, including a kitchen/bath showroom. The other day I needed to pick up some flashing, and didn't want to go all the way to Home Depot for it. Usually I would have gone to Milton Village Hardware (but not after my BBB complaint and 1 star review of them). I figured there MUST be something else close by to Ashmont Hill in Dorchester. I was initially skeptical because I had never heard of this place before, but I am a convert now. I am sad for all the lost hours I spent driving back and forth to Home Depot when this amazing place is right in my back yard. Only 4 stars for now because I need to visit a few more times before bumping it to five. read more

A very big THANK YOU to the helpful, knowledgeable folks at Norfolk Hardware in Dorchester! Water flow in my kitchen sink went from full strength to less than half strength over the course of a week. Asked a local plumber onsite at our condominium complex doing another job if he could come by for a quick look and advise me whether it was an easy fix or a major job; said he would call it in and let me know if he could waive the standard $150 "house call" fee - I never heard back. A helpful but inexpert neighbor was able to disassemble, clean two filters, but problem persisted. I took the sprayer head to Norfolk Hardware over the weekend, and headed for the "Expert Advice" table...and that's exactly what I got. Eddie and Jose played around with it, checked stock, went online, and advised me on a replacement part they said would possibly solve my problem (and printed out the Amazon page for me...) It arrived yesterday from Amazon; easy to install - total cost $12.96. Norfolk Hardware advice: priceless! read more

After my trip to Norfolk Hardware today I don't think I'll ever be returning. I tend to usually go to boring Home Depot where all the employees avoid you and just don't seem to want to help you, today I decided to switch it up. I've heard so many amazing things about Norfolk and their prices and inventory but I greatly disappointed by the customer service. I head to the register where I'm stuck in a long line and one employee who had just stood there and not rung up any customers but yet had just looked at the employees and the line and continued to stand there. Talk about professionalism. After a talk with a cashier I was informed that this women was a MANAGER ? A long line and manager doesn't step in to help it die down ? I'm already frustrated and just want my items and to be gone. Norfolk has done amazing with their redecoration but maybe they need to do a redecoration of their management until then, I advise everyone to stay away from this place. read more

We were thrilled to discover a friendly local hardware store, and we'll be going here again and again as we work on our fixer-upper. But to start at the beginning ... five minutes after closing on and arriving at our new house, we discovered the previous residents had left a nasty flea infestation. UGH! We bolted for the car, looked up the nearest hardware store, and raced over. Asked the first employee we saw for flea spray, and he led us directly to a heartening array of poisons. A friendly checkout employee chatted with us about our new house and cheered us up a bit. Maybe this town could still be okay, we thought. MAYBE. A week later, we went back to pick up a wide range of house necessities and were very pleasantly impressed with the size of the store and range of options -- I have ten choices of trash barrel, really? We were checked out by the same employee as the first time, and he REMEMBERED US and asked how it was going with the fleas. Super impressive, Norfolk Hardware. read more

I recently took a window screen into Norfolk Hardware based on a recommendation from a local firefighter. The screen was missing clips to keep it in the window. They ordered the clips, the got lost in the mail, ordered more and were able to repair my screen. They also rescreened it and because it had taken longer than expected they didn't charge me for the new screen! Everyone there was very helpful and nice, Dex, who fixed my screen was great and said he can also make me another screen to go in my back windows that's missing one. This is a great find for older buildings in the South End. I will continue to go there when I need something hardware related, they are great! read more

Yesterday I went in just before a big snow storm (1/3/18). The place was busy so I expected to wing it on my own in the store. Not only was everyone helpful, but they greeted me with smiles. I came in to get keys made. I met Jackie. When I say this woman is a one man show, she left me very impressed, and that is hard to do. Jackie, made my keys, helped me find two trash barrels, ( she carried them her self,) and assisted me with a 25 lb bucket of rock salt ( she carried it herself). She walked me to the register, she brought everything to the curb, and she helped me get it all inside my car. It seems that I am not the only one impressed, because several people greeted her, gave her hugs and thanked her. I will tell all my friends to shop here not only because the store carries everything, but because people like Jackie, make the trip worthwhile! read more

Picked up a steel clothes drying rack last night on my way home from work. They had this "last one" I think at the desk when I got there because they pulled it off shelf when I called. Well beware of things that have tape and looked like they've been opened because sure enough I bring it home and one of the rivet or screws is sticking out so far that the one of the rods to dry the clothes wouldn't fit in the slot when my hubbie tried to put it together. The same woman was at the desk (desk doesn't even say customer service but one of the not the greatest cashier I've ever spoken to pointed me toward the front desk. Beware of stuff with tape on it that someone else already brought back. Why was this even put into circulation again. Hopefully they read my return and won't try to resell it again to the next poor slob. Looked up this drying rack on Amazon and people don't love it anyway. I would come back here but I wonder about their customer service? read more

This hardware store is fantastic - I must admit, I have never been to the actual store, but I have ordered lumber here on a number of occasions. Best of all, for us city folks without trucks, they deliver if you spend $50 or more. They are quick, deliver when they say they will, and we've always gotten what we've ordered. Very convenient for those DIY home/condo projects! You can't easily get this type of convenience from a large hardware store. I look forward to actually visiting the store someday... read more

I have lived in Boston for about 12 years and during most of that time drove past it,but a couple years ago I wanted to go in and see what they had. For whatever reason it is WAY bigger inside than it looks outside and I have always had everything I needed. Everyone is really helpful and knows exactly where everything in the store is, and they will walk you to the item and talk about it rather than pointing off in the vague direction. The only thing I would suggest is if there was one evening a week that they could stay open later, it would be helpful. If you work normal business hours it is hard to get there by 6:00 pm. read more

I've come into the store several times over the past few months (first time around February or March) for random house things. I usually struggle to find what I need and typically give up (the cashiers don't seem to know where anything is and did not seem interested in assisting me). I saw who appeared to be a female manager working with another customer. Once she was done, she immediately came to me (i'm guessing I looked confused) and asked if I needed assistance. She was immediately able to bring me directly the location of my item (wrenches the first time and vacuum bags another time that I came in). She was pleasant and smiled and even seemed genuinely proud to be working here. Her presence in the store definitely shifted the dynamic in there. There was a time that I wouldn't shop there because staff was often unprofessional (the cashiers...still are). I wish I could remember the female manager's name but I can't, I think it begins with a K. You need more people like her. It takes a lot of patience to work in a store like that and deal with such young staff but she always seems ready and able to assist. I hope she sticks around because she has really redeemed my impression of customer service at that store. read more

I was in a panic when I found out my plumber was ready to install a sink sooner than expected in my remodeled bathroom. I couldn't find anything at the other large Home Improvement Stores that would go with my beige tub and existing vanity size and I also called several bath centers. I didn't expect that I would have such luck when I visited the Norfolk Hardware and Home Center. I wish I could remember the name of the lovely young woman who helped me, looking up possible sinks in her inventory and then following up by having one of the gentleman pull those from a trailer in back to show me. They went through a lot of trouble and I finally selected a sink. I wasn't all that thrilled with it but I was desperate and was about to pay for it when the guy came up to me and said he thought he had another one that would better match my tile. It did and I was ecstatic. I left with a sink that goes perfectly with the tile and tub and it was very reasonably priced. The lady and gentleman went above and beyond duty providing excellent customer service and next time I'm renovating or have a home project I will be sure to visit them first. in read more
