Went to the showroom in West Roxbury. The man in charge said he could only come out to measure in wellesley if he had another person ordering in wellesley otherwise it's not worth his while to come all the way out...really? I booked him anyways and 3 weeks went by still he didnt come out to measure. I called and he said the same thing. "Couldn't get out to measure because no one in my area was ordering?????" I was hoping to get 2 Pro Via storm doors. I dont recommend this store. read more

The worst customer service I've ever had. After spending thousands of dollars on custom shades for our home, we had two large shades that needing refitting because of new window installation...they refused to do it. I had called a few weeks before and George told me it would cost about $70 to do it and he would have someone call me. Never called and when I stopped by, he said, "We never call anyone back". King Shade and window were top notch. I had been researching and window replacements for over a year. What an overwhelming process! Finally went with Hervey Majestics (I wanted wood interior) and the crew at King was so helpful. Plus--their price was by far the best overall. I didn't want to go with some corporate behemoth and I'm so glad I didn't. This is a small, family run business that is capable of being human, not to mention their attention to detail. The installation (34 windows!) went seamlessly. My house is an old victorian with lots of old lead paint around the interior window facing boards which had to be removed in order to install the windows. Tom and Mike made sure to calk up any disturbed paint and gaps so the window facings look as they did before the new windows went in. Scheduling with Melissa was a breeze. Overall this is the kind of operation you want to entrust a job of this scale to. They have your back. My window's look fantastic (almost like a new house!) Excellent company for new replacement windows! After doing hours and days of research on windows, and meeting with a handful of high-pressure sales reps who insisted on coming to my house (grrr..), it was a HUGE relief to finally talk to Melissa at King Shade and Window. They don't do a sales pitch at all, and they don't need to come to your house and take up your time. She simply gave me a quote for 4 Harvey replacement windows via email, based on measurements that I took myself, and she answered dozens of questions I had about the various window types and options. I then did my own research on Harvey, which makes pretty great windows, and I even went to the Harvey showroom in Reading to check them out for myself. That was enough info to make the decision, and King's pricing was better than anyone else I found. Overall the company was great to deal with. Friendly, knowledgeable, and easy to work with, which is, TRUST ME, extremely rare in the window business. Even when we had a little issue related to the order, they solved it quickly and professionally, and were totally focused on my being happy and getting what I wanted. If you are like me and you have been going crazy learning about vinyl vs wood, Andersen vs Pella, etc, and calling different window companies, you have no doubt discovered the following: many companies REFUSE to give you a quote over the phone, and instead want to send a salesperson to your house, who then spends 90 minutes or more teaching you about U-ratings and all this stuff that you might not care about to begin with, and then they offer you a price that is only good for THAT DAY, creating undue pressure, stress, and the sneaking feeling that you are somehow about to get ripped off. I experienced this with a few different window companies, and I also was shocked that they wanted, in some cases, over $1200 per window. King was just the opposite experience, and I appreciated them for it. They sell Harvey windows, which are well-reviewed, and well-documented online. If you want vinyl windows, these are great quality and have lots of options. The price is right too... mine came in at less than $700 per window, and I had some options that were non-standard (all replacement windows need to be custom made, BTW, so beware of anyone who can price a window without knowing the dimensions or the specifics such as the grid pattern, etc). So talk to Melissa at King... she's great, and will tell you everything you need to know to help compare window types. DON'T buy windows from Home Depot or Lowe's (low quality, overpriced), or Andersen Renewal (waaaay overpriced). And also remember that half the consideration is that the windows are properly and carefully installed. King works with the same installer who has done thousands of the same windows, and he was great and very careful in putting them in. My Harvey windows look awesome, and if I never need any more, I'm going back to King, no question. read more

We were looking for custom shades for our new home. We received quotes from Budget Blinds, Costco, and King Shade to compare. We assumed that King Shade would be the most expensive since it is a local business but their prices were competitive and reasonable to other companies. What made us go with King Shade is the customer service from Dave. I am not sure about others since we only interacted with Dave but his kindness and professionalism convinced me to work with King Shades. Dave was the one who gave me the initial consultation when I popped in the store, and he came to our place to measure and offer great advice for our home, then he also came to install all the shades. I was most impressed and grateful when he was installing one of the roller shades, it had a very small defect that I didn't even notice, he was honest and offered to replace it for free and let me keep the old one as a spare. Later, we had some further problems with another roller shades and Dave offered to come to our place to replace it the second time around. I really appreciated working with Dave, he seems like a great human being and very pleasant to work with. Overall, you can go to Home Depot yourself to find shades at the fraction of the price, but if you want quality installation and don't want to worry about the hassle of replacing it yourself when there is a problem, I would recommend going with King Shade. read more

This company doesnt have a clue about customer sevrice. I work at a 100 room apt building and we needed some window shades. We set up an appointment to measure the windows back in June and everything went as planned. When I spoke to the woman who answers the phone and sets up jobs she said because of the length of the windows it may take five or six weeks if they have to make them in a factory in NJ. I said that would be fine. Six weeks went by and no shades. I called and they said it may be another two weeks. OK fine so I will wait for them to call me this time. I waited until the end of AUGUST to call them about what was taking so long. I asked if the shades are ready and she said I needed to sign something (i have ordered several times before and never signed anything) before they would send the order to the factory(so another six weeks to make them). I asked why someone didnt call me and let me know I needed to sign. She said "I dont have time to call people for signatures". I reminded her that customer service would include calling the customer with any problems with an order. After all you are selling me a product. This company does NOT value their customers. I would not recomend doing buisness with them to anyone. Now I am using Stoneside for all of our windows (we have over 600 windows) and couldnt be happier. read more

After several failed attempts at finding a company to replace a few of my old basement windows at reasonable price, I finally found King Shade. I am SO VERY GLAD that I did. Excellent customer service. Both George (owner) and Melissa (office manager) were great to interact with -- professional and at the same time very warm and personable. They were totally transparent in their pricing. Very responsive to email communication. Their installers (Mike and his team -- Andre, Kenneth and Jonathan) came and replaced the windows today. Exceptional job and again, very very pleasant to interact with all of them. Andre went over the installed windows and very patiently explained what was done, how to open and clean them etc. Mike even fixed a lever on an old casement window for us (fixing/replacing a malfunctioning part on an existing window is not something that they normally handle). And oh, nearly forgot to mention -- their prices were so reasonable. Anyone out there looking to get their windows replaced, THIS is the company for you. read more

King Shade & Window is exceptional! We bought 23 replacement windows through them and we couldn't have been happier with our experience. When I called with my initial inquiry they were able to send George out to measure on the same day, and he was quick, efficiency, and clearly knew what he was doing. We have an old house with a picture windows and George pointed out that they were double pane (so decent energy efficiency, which is what we're going for) and added character to the house and probably didn't need to be replaced, and I appreciated that he wasn't trying to up-sell us. We specifically wanted to use the Mass Save Heat Loan program and the staff were well-versed with that and were able to anticipate everything that the loan program would require for our quote so that that process went seamlessly as well. On the day of the installation, Mike and two other guys showed up exactly on time and they were hard-working, efficient, very careful of our original wood window frames, and did an outstanding job with the installations -- getting all 23 done (and cleaning up) before 3 pm. I highly, highly recommend them. (Also, Home Depot did our kitchen renovation so we briefly considered them for windows -- they were more expensive, required two separate visits for quote and exact measurements, would install a max of 15 windows per day, tried to up-sell us on picture windows, and had no idea how to help with paperwork for Heat Save loan. I am going to give you the good and the bad. The good - I think it was George who came over to measure my windows and talk to me about my options. He was great, really nice guy, knowledgeable, professional. They sent me a quote quickly. I paid my deposit and they called me about two weeks later right when the windows came in. The bad - why does delivery/installation always have to be such a pain in the you know what?!?!?!?! The installer should have been here between 8-9am and at 9:30 I called to ask, "where is he?". The answer "we don't know" and apparently my windows were just sitting there. Meanwhile, no one proactively called me with an update. Again, I call an hour or so later to get an update and still no word from the installer. Then another installer is going to come at 3pm and then he calls to say he can't be here until 5pm 20 minutes before he is supposed to be here. When I called back to reschedule I asked if I would get any discount on labor given this whole ordeal for the day, and I will admit I was really upset at this point. I was told I would not get a discount, everyone has jobs, lives, etc so basically get over it, worse things could happen in this world. This is pretty poor customer service if you ask me (at my job, this would be unacceptable!). The problem is - my frustration is built up after every single home improvement project I do - the service is always bad. What happened to customer service? In today's world, it is completely gone. And I must say, the installer is actually a very nice guy and offered to even bring me a coffee because I was so upset. The beginning was good but the installation process was pretty bad and the company does not believe in customer service, so I don't think I can confidently recommend them. If anyone has a good customer service experience from any company related to home projects, would love to hear them and use them! read more
