It might be a tourist trap but I loved it! Parking is a little tricky if busy, but as the employee told me "get in where you fit in." The employees that I encountered were both friendly and full of character. They have a fun little gift shop with plenty of souvenirs to buy. They also offer squad car tours if you're interested. Definitely worth checking out! read more

Here is Wally's Service Station. My buddy and I visited Mayberry over the summer. We had a great time and it was very fun to see all the sights and scenes from the beloved TV show. Wally's service is a part photo op and part gift shop and tourist trap located in historic downtown mount airy North Carolina aka Mayberry. Wally's is the the Andy Griffith show famous set that is the workplace of lovable characters gomer Pyle and goober. The outside has towing trucks and the facade of the business from The show. It also is surrounded by other famous props like the darlin farm, the cannon, and the old jailhouse. Inside is a decent sized gift shop That sales all kinds of Merch and products from the show. This is also where you would book your town tour in sheriff Andy Griffith police car. It is $50 per carload if you choose to do so. Overall a cool place to browse and take some fun photo ops. I did not do the car tour as it wa just two of us and you can drive to all the same sights for free. But I'm sure it would be a fun and memorable thing to do. read more

Wish I could have gone inside but it was closed due to COVID. But I did peak through the window and there was a nice old time general store. Just walking around by the Justice of the Peace office and Wally's was great. I talked with a guy in a Mayberry Squad Car (Ford Galaxie for you fellow gear heads). Really cool place if you're a fan of the show. read more

By far one of the coolest spots in town to enjoy a cold soda. Shop includes some great souvenirs and other items to purchase. Enjoy a rocking chair out front while you have your bottled soda as folks get picked up for the squad car tour. Wonderful picture options with plenty of Wally trucks. My family had a great time here. The people were all funny and nice. I would highly recommend taking the squad car tour. It is 40 bucks for half an hour and up to 4 people can ride in the car. The drivers have all kinds of inside information about the Andy Griffith show and my family learned a lot. They take you to all the highlights from Andy's days there around town. Our driver was really funny and gave us great suggestions on where to eat in town. After our tour we walked around high street and our driver honked at us each time he passed with a new tour. I wasn't going to post this, but the more I thought about it the more upset I became. With covid, I haven't been around my parents in almost a year. We are finally able to be together for the holidays, they came down from the Chicago area. My dad doesn't get excited about a lot of things but since he was a child Andy Griffith has been his favorite TV character.. so when I discovered what mount airy had to offer I planned this day for us to go visit the museums and Wally's garage and do the squad car tour. My dad was so excited. So we go to the museum tour which was wonderful, and then we headed down to the garage to do the squad car tour and visit the gift shop there. We go up to the door of the gift shop at a little before 3 PM, everywhere I read said that they close at 5 PM. As we are waiting for someone to come to the door (it was locked, we assumed that maybe they had someone else out on the squad car tour) A woman exits the building and just stares at us like we're nuts. We said we're here to do the squad car tour! She said oh no he's been gone for hours. So then I said well can we at least come into the gift shop, my parents are here from Chicago, not to mention we drove two hours here from Charlotte area. She said "no I'm closed for the day." Then she continued on to inform us "if I don't have any business during the day I can't keep the doors open now can I?" She says this as both my parents and I are standing there staring at her obviously wanting to come in and spend some money in her gift shop. I'm lucky we had such a wonderful experience over at the museum because otherwise this would've absolutely ruined our day. She didn't apologize, she was so rude. Not only that, it's the holidays, and I'm sure that it's not a booming business right now. They've permanently lost mine. Such a shame, I wonder what Andy Griffith would've thought about such a thing. So disappointing. This was Dec 22, 2020. read more

Very friendly staff and the cutest replicas of the Andy Griffith Show The courthouse, Emmett's Fix It, Darlin's shack, Wally's Service Station etc. Sheriff's squad car, Wally's truck etc. A MUST see. We bought a few souvenirs. They offer a tour of Mount Airy by squad car. read more

Loved this place. Was actually a gas station back in the day. They also have a building next door set up like the old Mayberry courthouse including jail cells and the desk area that Andy and Barney sat in. Wonderful photo opportunity if you love the show. Also a replica of the Darlin cabin in back including a still for photos. A pick up truck and tow truck are there as are "shops" for Emmits Fix it Shop, The county clerk, Foleys store, and the Mayor's office (these are doors and windows only, no entry. I found the tour wonderful and the guide fun and knowledgeable. He hit the siren and yelled "Citizen's Arrest! Citizens Arrest!" as we were leaving for the tour. Nice souvenier and candy shop inside too. A definite must see if you are a fan of the Andy Griffith Show. read more

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of Mt Airy. The old police car made us feel just like we were driving through Mayberry with the windows down. Our guide, Melvin, provided a wealth of information on the town's history and it's famous residents, Andy Griffith and Donna Fargo. read more
