The guy working the downstairs candy/hot sauce shop was very friendly and knowledgeable about the hot sauces. They've got a pretty big selection. I didn't end up getting anything so I felt a little bad but my friend ended up buying some apple butter BBQ sauce so I didn't feel too terrible. If you feel like eating insects, you can buy them here. Yes, insects! The guys working upstairs were nice too. It's more traditional souvenirs and the tees and hats named in the store's moniker. This souvenir and clothing shop gets three stars purely for the service, which was a masterclass in existential time anticipation. Every single customer who approached the clerk, whether buying an overpriced T-shirt or a tacky magnet, was greeted with the same intensely desperate and loaded phrase: "Can't wait until 6 PM." When I finally asked why, he just scanned my purchase, sighed, and explained that's when "the clock stops ticking on this shift." At first the "hat lady" seemed a little rude. She was very blunt and direct to all customers as they and as we tried on different hats. She actually gave more help at first than we really wanted---almost insulting our huge heads. (But we are a family of George Lopez heads) But it worked. She was right; she knew a lot about hats. We left with three hats we love for our next beach trip. read more

Very disappointed to see one employee unmasked and in the faces of customers talking loudly (long hair)...only a foot away. She had helpful info for them, but never acknowledged me even though I stood there for a few minutes. The young woman at the cash register (with short hair) was masked and very polite and welcoming. This place has great hats and gifts but they are not being safe. Especially in light of all the tourists who pass through. read more

The staff was nice enough however I purchased a rather expensive ring here that I was assured was real silver and turquoise and not even a week later the supposed turquoise fell out of a part of the ring. Was very disappointed. read more

Kids were asking to go to the Mast General Store for candy last weekend. We were on Main Street in Blowing Rock and someone suggested this place. Sunset Sweets & Heat is downstairs in Sunset Tee's & Hattery. We had never noticed it before. They have a ton of candy - both in weighed bulk and individually priced items. They have specialty candy items I haven't seen in years as well as items I've never seen. They also serve ice cream. We didn't partake but there was a large section dedicated to hot sauces (hence the 'heat'). They also sell various knicknacks. My son got an antler whistle for example. Pretty cool little spot that is certainly more convenient than driving into Boone or Valle Crucis. read more

They have a wonderful selection of hats in the room in the rear for both women and men. There is a section for women, and basically everything else is unisex, with size small and medium for women, and up for men. You get help with fitting and selection as well. Out front in Apple season, there is someone sampling all kinds of apples, where I had the first taste of my now favorite variety, honey crisp, and plenty of sacks for sale. In the front of the store there is a little of everything including hiking shoes, t-shirts, etc. Nice store and employees. read more

No mask enforcement here. No sanitization and the same pen is used to have customers sign receipts over and over again. Downstairs ice cream is scooped with no gloves. An old man working behind the counter doesn't wash his hands or wear a mask. Lost my money and anyone else's I could talk to on the street. This place should be shut down. read more

Love this place! I have had my fair share of difficulties finding a hat. I was blown away by the hospitality and warm welcome. Josh assisted me and he is super awesome and got me exactly what I needed. This place does mail orders so I finally can get my hat collection up. Stopped in to buy a tshirt for our exchange student to take back to Germany. Sign on the door said opening at 9--we got there a little affair 10, doors still closed. Finally saw people entering, we followed, picked out a shirt and were ready to leave by 10:20. Gentleman working there was unable to ring us up, but assured us another salesperson will be there shortly. 10:20, middle aged lady walks in with her ice cream. Multiple times states that's she's s just arrived, acting like we were the problem further delaying our visit. If it weren't for our student really wanting a tshirt from Blowing Rock to take back to Germany, I would have told her to shove her shirt. Your hours are posted for a reason. read more

Day 2 of road trip - vacation food - a sweet treat! We decided to drive into downtown Blowing Rock and walk off some of our lunch. However, you can't go too far before you find the "sweets" shops on Main Street. This day we stopped in the downstairs portion of the Sunset Tees & Hattery, where you find a great little candy store and ice cream shop. The child and I had dessert there. The worse service I've ever experienced. Bought a hat for my son that didn't fit and walked back in to return and said its no return policy...so then we went back in to "exchange" it and paid the difference with a credit car sand then she insults me with asking for ID...I just paid 2 minutes with the same card. No variety of sizes - all t shirts are XL. Deceitful return policy where they do not tell you that you will be unable to make returns but then staple a long list of insanely strict policies on it to your receipt (after it is already too late). If your product is good, maybe you wouldn't run into such issues when people want to make returns. Customer service in this shop is awful. Stay away. read more

I give this place a good rating for two things mainly (because the rest of what they offer you can find all over). 1: Fun, friendly staff. These are nice, helpful people who will converse, and laugh, and share stories with you, and just shoot the breeze for a while. 2: The hats. This place has the coolest, most extensive, and nicest selection of interesting and fun hats that I've ever seen. I have made it a tradition to get a hat here every few years, and they've never let me down. Always a quality chapeau, with a killer look. A little pricey on some types, but you expect that for a really really nice hat that'll last you a long time, and take a beating to boot. If you want a hat, this is where you need to go. read more

Would not recommend buying apples here. I did and wasted my money. They have many boxes and bags of many varieties of apples for sale. While I didn't sample them all, the ones I bought turned out to be good only for applesauce - not the crisp apple described that I wanted for eating and baking. read more
