First - my roommate and I visited Trader Joe's right after moving to Portsmouth. The cashier looked at our IDs since we were buying wine, and when she found out that we had just moved to the area, she gave us a reusable bag as a welcome gift. We were so touched by this welcome and really appreciated the gesture as we had just arrived and were starting to settle in. Second, and most recently, my partner and I were picking up a couple of items on a Sunday night. We went to get in the checkout line and then remembered that we needed to grab one more thing. Just then, the bagging attendant told us "I'll open another lane for you guys" to which we responded that we needed to grab another thing. He told us it was not a problem and he'd be ready when we got back, and returned to bagging. We went, got our item, and upon our return to the checkout line, the attendant immediately opened up another lane. Although this may seem small, I was so appreciative that the attendant not only wanted to improve our experience initially, but cared enough to keep an eye on us while we picked up another item and opened up another lane for us as soon as we returned. I felt that it truly went above and beyond and I wish I remembered his name to give him a shoutout. I would be remiss if I concluded this review with no mention of the Trader Joe's food. Their frozen meals are amazing and all of their food is so high quality; I've never had a product that disappointed.

Since this one is closer than the Portland location, we opted to visit this location. There is ample parking and the staff are friendly. Plenty of fresh produce, flowers, beverages, and frozen meal options. I personally prefer to go here than Hannaford.

I was staying at the Homewood Suites by Hilton Downtown Portsmouth and found Dwntwn Grocer & Cafe just a short two-block walk away. The space is a small, bright market-café with cheeses, salamis, drinks, and a focused food menu. Natural light fills the room through the large windows, and they also offer fresh coffee and lattes. Two young women working the lunch shift were genuinely friendly and made a delicious sandwich. The croissant was outstanding: ***light and flaky*** and the chicken salad itself was refreshing, with grapes and red onion. The only change I requested was leaving off the pickled onions. It was so good I ordered a second one and finished it. I already plan to go back for lunch tomorrow....!

They offer fresh brewed coffee (Blue Harbor Coffee Co), coffee/espresso drinks, chai/tea drinks, baked goods, and made to order breakfast sandwiches. They also stock small grocery items, frozen items, snacks, candy, cold drinks, beer, wine, tobacco items, and essentials. The place is order at the counter or online and there is seating in the front area and along the windows. I stopped by here recently late afternoon. I already had coffee, so all I needed was a breakfast sandwich, which is offered all day. I got a BYO Egg Breakfast Sandwich ($8.75 plus tax) on an Everything Bagel with goat cheese, pickled onions ($), pork sausage patty ($), round egg patty, tomato, & romaine lettuce ($ subbed for spinach), which was prepared to order and ready to go in 6 minutes. I headed back to my vehicle outside and enjoyed this tasty thick bagel egg sandwich with my black coffee, which was my quick dinner before heading over to a gathering. I would definitely return to Dwntwn for another breakfast sandwich and muffin next time.

I have gotten a certain brand of pie crust from here in the past that is my favorite, I don't remember the brand but I know it when I see it. So I headed over here since it was after 9pm. I was disappointed to find out that they didn't have that brand that I liked but I was able to get a different brand. I wander around the store to see if there was anything else that I may have wanted to purchase. I did find a reasonably priced chocolate cookie cake that I picked up for one of my BF's bday. I have to say unfortunately I'm not a big fan of this grocery store. The layout here is weird and the produce section wasn't very full. Most everything in here is way overpriced. They only had self checkouts opened & the two guys working that night (06/15/2024 @ 2132) were running around the self-checkout area being loud with each other. When you pull into the parking lot the area isn't well lite up & it looked closed but I knew it was open when I saw someone walking in. This to me is a safety issue esp. being a female & alone. I definitely miss the good old Pic & Pay days!!
