This place is a short walk from the tourist promenade 5th Avenida and just 15 minutes away from my hotel. I mention this because if you need aqua shoes, suncreen, toothpaste, a rash guard or anything you forgot to pack, this is the place to go. Why pay tourist prices when you can go to the place the locals go? Here's a good example: people like to come here to get pharmaceuticals without needing a prescription and for a cheap price. Sis buys Retin-A here for her skin, others buy tramadol, and a plethora of other items because it's affordable. I bought my favorite medicine (not mentioning it because I don't want them jacking up the price) on 5th avenue and paid $14 per box. Came here to Walmart and it was $2.50 per box. Aargh! Why did I forget that tourist places sell at tourist prices?!? They have a large section of souvenir type things (magnets, shot glasses, etc) so again, save your money and buy your Mexican souvenirs here.

The store seemed like there was no air conditioning. That was the first issue. The selection of sunscreen was reasonable however they only carry spf 50. They didn't have any Aloe Vera at all. The liquor selection was bigger than the sunscreen selection. You understand we are in Cancún. Drinking is the number one sport here. The store was clean enough for the area. The staff sucks. They're not helpful and checking out is a chore. The lady at checkout was rude and appeared to be bothered to be working. The location is in the heart of the fun so don't give up on the store. Put up with the staff and walk out to 5th street fun.

Supercenter to get all your basic (travel) needs at an affordable price - sunblock, snacks, food, drinks, water, etc. It's a few blocks off the main tourist strip Quinta Avenida and worth the trip.
I always make this my first stop when I arrive in PDC! The liquor is super affordable, the food is fresh, and they have a great hot bar with plenty of tasty options. Sometimes you might need to use a translator app for help, but the staff is overall friendly and willing to assist. It's also a great spot to pick up some last-minute souvenirs before heading home. Convenient, reliable, and always part of my travel read more

We have walked to Walmart a few times now from different directions. Each time we see something new or different. The parking lot is huge and yes they have taxi, taxi if walking was too much in the heat. We walked the whole time and enjoyed it immensely. Upon entering you are greeted by security guards. Right in front are the souvenir and I do mean lots. We found souvenirs, booze, hot sauces, and Spanish peanuts!! The items were very reasonably priced in fact they have the same as on 5th Ave. lol Well some. The staff speak Spanish and very few speak English in fact we have not come across any staff that did to tell you the truth. So brush up on speaking Spanish!!! The tellers are friendly and there is a person that bags your groceries and you are required to tip. This location is a superstore, which carry groceries, clothes, household products and more. During our stay we will be returning. read more
I literally walked over a mile here in the sweltering heat for the delicious and well priced pastries. Aside from that it's a great stop for toilet paper, snacks, water, and other essentials for your playa adventures. There are lots of taxis in the area so you definitively don't have to walk - I just liked to. Find additional flavors of fave items like Tajin that have not yet hit the states. Bring your own bags or purchase them there at the register. Also it's a super duper spot for things to bring home like vanilla, magnets, postcards, etc. I reduced by 1 star as the checkout lines tend to be super long and a bit on the slow side. read more

I had to make a return and the customer service desk went above and beyond. I speak almost no Spanish and they were very patient. One of the best customer service experiences I've ever had. So thankful for their help! read more

Very similar to Walmart in the States. Many customer service representatives are available. Make sure to bring a phone because most do not speak English. read more

This Walmart was well stocked however the employees that I came into contact with were horrible. I'm here on vacation here and I swear they do not like Americans. I got nothing but attitude. I'm also Latina, speak Spanish and not sure if I could pin point the attitude for another reason. read more
Most visitors to Playa del Carmen would not think to visit this place, but it is worth it if you want to save some money. It is is huge like any Walmart you would find in the U.S. and is walking distance from the main part of Fifth Avenue. We found vacation essentials (beachwear, snacks) and souvenirs here (tequila, T shirts, sweets) here for about half the price what the tourist shops charge. There is a massive grocery section as well if you are renting an airBnB and like to cook. read more

This is the dirtiest Walmart I have ever been. Also doesn't have the best prices. First complain this Walmart is located at playa del Carmen and doesn't have beach towels available. The organization at this establishment doesn't make sense. Is set up like a warehouse. The only great thing was the vanilla and a few souvenirs. If you are buying fruits go to the local Markets is fresher and cheaper. I honor 3 stars as they have a self temperature thermometer they should implement this in USA. Also they are monitoring the quantity of people going in and out. read more
Get you souvenirs here! Totally worth the cab fare to come into town to pick up a few things I neglected to pack. Prices were cheaper than at home. This Walmart is large and has everything you could possibly want. Not sure why the lines to check out were crazy long. The place was packed though and it took about 15 minutes to get checked out. read more

This store is going down hill fast, if I am expected to do my own checkout then I by all rights should get an employee discount. Also if you don't trust me to be able to checkout on my own then maybe you should do your job and open up registers with actual employees. I despise that everyone is treated like a criminal leaving the store. Seriously if you want to see my receipt because you think I am stealing from you then work the register yourself. Also blocking the entrance to the store so there is only one way in and out is against fire code and illegal. The store should be closed down if they can't get employees to work. read more

I like to point out locations of chains/franchises that standout from their brothers and sisters. We were staying at one of the really nice resorts nearby (see other reviews), but decided to go and explore past 5th avenue and wound up here. Full disclosure: anytime I'm in a different country (no matter how close it is to the USA), I try to head to a grocery store. It's in my top 5 things to do no matter how big or small the country or trip. Roaming the aisles and finding random and staple goods you've never seen, well it's exhilarating for this gal. If you're into that also, then definitely check out my other reviews on local markets/grocery stores. This was one of my favorite Walmart's! I know this may sound funny to say. Trust when I say if you're in the area definitely head on over over and grab some items from their bakery section, especially if you've rented an airbnb or something like that. We even ended up bringing one of their "bundt cakes" back home with us. Best.decision.ever!!! Waking up after a long flight home in your city apartment, then you see this beautiful Bundt Cake on your tiny city countertop, it's a sight to behold guys. The taste was superb, different than what you get in the 50 U.S. Continental states. The people are so friendly, but that's pretty consistent with the entire area. Also, they were doing temp checks way before anyone else was in the USA, which was pretty cool that they were taking things seriously. ps. I wish I had a picture of the cake we bought, but it was gone pretty quickly... read more
This is a bad Walmart with lazy and disorganized employees. Whatever you do, do not use them to transfer money to Mexico. They will give you endless headaches and you probably will never get your money. We attempted to purchase a wheelchair for a handicapped gentleman and ran into all kinds of problems. Customer service here is the absolute worst. If you need to buy something and are looking for a large store with a wide selection, go next-door to Aki or further down the street to mega. Both of them are just as big as Walmart and the prices are generally lower. read more

If I could give this Walmart zero stars I would. They are letting 1 person of a family in. No control over the number of people. Seperatimg pregnant women, separating elderly and children from parents. Deplorable. Go to Mega same idea but cleaner and no problems. They say its to control the number of people, but there are tons of employees outside and inside Doing Nothing. And lines waiting for cashiers and no cashiers- bad idea if you want to control the crowd. No one is even keeping track of the number of people let in! Go to Mega much better experience right next door. read more

Walmart - What can I say about this store? It is as though the staff has been trained to be American - employees won't move themselves or their stuff out of the way if you are in a wheelchair (they have 2 - last time, neither functioned) - they simply look at you and do nothing. Their carts block half of the aisles.
Playa Del Carmen is a tourist town and so the traditional places that sell touristy things such as souvenirs Beach accessories, swimsuits, sunscreen, Etc are going to be hugely overpriced. Walmart is just a 5 minute drive for most of the hotels in the hotel area of Playa Del Carmen and this is where I go to get water, snacks, and even souvenirs to take home. Every time I go in here I noticed other tourists doing the same thing, in addition to the regular locals who shop here. This is Walmart so it gets the standard Walmart rating, but this one is nicer than some of the Walmarts I had back home in Southern California. I have never had any of the checkers speak English to me so it would be best if you know a little bit of Spanish when you shop here. But that is true of almost everywhere in Mexico. Many people do not speak any English and that provides a good opportunity to practice my Spanish. read more

Watch out for the lady who smeared to your clothes with some sort of feces and then she would say something on your clothes. She then tried to help you to clean up and telling you to go to the bathroom to clean up. She took you to the bathroom and she had her accomplice in the bathroom who helped you. Then he switched your wallet with his fake wallet and stole your wallet. There is no camera in the bathroom. If you encounter her, go to the security and report to her right away. Don't let anyone near you. She has dark hair with round face. Age around 25. Be ware of her. They changed your credit card within 15 minutes. STOP that thief. read more

Worst customer service ever!! Im not surprised I wasn't the only Latina on vacation experiencing this type of attitude towards me. Employee saw our cart full (not overloaded but def more than 25 items) this was our first time there & no one told us that there was a 25 item limit. The employees started getting mad because we would scan 5 items n then it wouldn't want to scan anymore. They did not want to help. We were about to start bagging when the employee with short hair n glasses told us we couldn't bag until we finished paying.. mind u the line was already getting long. & the employees got even more mad. We finished paying & started bagging when they we're already trying to put someone else when we weren't even done bagging all of our stuff. & the two employee women who were there just kept talking to each other instead of helping when we would have trouble w/ the scanning machine.. never again. What can I say? It's Walmart. I needed a few things and didn't want to pay a gringo tax for them, so I stopped here. Also, they have tons of souvenirs here for cheap. The strap on my backpack is unraveling, and I was able to buy a Playa del Carmen bag for about $8US. There were some cheaper bags, but I bought the one that I liked. I also got some other stuff, and my grand total came to about $24 US. Can't beat that! But the lines were AWFUL, especially the "express" lines. Y I K E S!!! But, I was with a friend, so the wait wasn't so bad. read more

If you hate Walmart USA you'll really hate this Mexican Walmart. Poor selection of food and fish and chicken left out unrefrigerated. Hardly any selection at all. However you can buy cheap booze there. Guess that's people want. Go to mega a few blocks over for better food! read more
Walmart is.....well....Walmart. Parking is along a lower level and take a large scale conveyor belt up to the store. Make sure you grab a cart before you going up. This is a super Walmart, so it has everything. There are household items and groceries. A large beach accessory department also welcomes you into the store. We needed groceries to get through the week. There are American brand goods. read more

You'll be able to get groceries, some souvenirs and essentials here, but don't think that they are the same prices you'll get in the US. Besides groceries, mostly everything here was way more expensive than the U.S. Don't think that you don't need to pack anything and just swing by here to pick up stuff. It will cost you a lot more and there's not that much of a selection. If you have the option to pack your stuff, do so. It's very close to town which is great, but not much of a selection here. read more

The worst Walmart I've ever been to they would not let me and my girlfriend go into shop together forcing us to go at different times.

The is the place to shop for souvenirs. Please price compare to Walmart before anywhere else. We were able to get souvenirs here at half the price of boutiques without the haggles. Of course the selection is limited but you can definitely find something. It also very clean and easy to find what you are looking for. Please note milk and eggs are not refrigerated in Mexico for some reason, and we didn't get sick from drinking/eating the eggs or milk. Also there are Vida people waiting for you like starving peruanas trying to sell you timeshares. They are not associated with Walmart. Just tell them to let you shop in peace. We never felt vulnerable shopping here with our one year old. But we also never came after 2pm. We always made sure to go early. We do speak Spanish and none of the cashier or workers speck English. They barely speak Spanish. Most of them were mayan. This Walmart was a lot nicer than ones back in Chicago. But again it's Walmart and we were able to get everything super cheap. All the prices are about half of what we would pay back home. Even diapers and wipes. read more

Cancun playa Del Carmen WALMART. This is not for Walmart store. Just be aware of the tour guys, (they are inside Walmart). They promised some staff to us and we didn't received anything from them. Also the transportation was horrible we had to used taxi cabs to meet with the real buses from XCARET, if u need to buy tours just do it with XCARET experience or with ur hotel where you staying at. Do not buy from this tour people . read more

Beware if your visiting the area and go shopping. You will be picked on the entire shopping experience from excursion specialist and they won't stop. Geesh. Also, they stop selling beer(cervaza) at 5p.m on Sundays. Star rating is for being hassled while shopping, very annoying and irritating. No is no. read more

Not all Walmarts are created equal, but it's about 80% there. It's a bit disorganized but we always come here in the beginning of our trip. They do make their own tortillas here, super cheap. A nice selection of produce and a pretty impressive bread and deli section. read more

Don't buy any "fresh" meat there. Meat is always spoiled. Last trip it was the chicken. This trip it's the hamburger meat. They seem to be able to sell meat past their expiration date, But even if it's not past the expired date it still smells funny after a day in the freezer. Megamart to me was better. read more

Beware of BBQ Sauce! My husband was at the Pharmacy counter at Walmart in Playa del Carmen tonight when a nice local guy told him he had BBQ sauce on the back of his shirt and shorts. He offered to help him clean it off in the men's room. When my husband got home, his credit cards were gone and his clothing was ruined! He was pick-pocketed!!! Seriously - we have been coming to PDC and shopping at Walmart for 6 years. There is security all over this store and nobody saw this guy squirt BBQ sauce on him??? Very disappointing. We have choices, and I am choosing to post this so that it doesn't happen to anyone else. And...I will not be shopping at Walmart anymore. read more
The good: only a few blocks from the main 5th ave strip and had the least expensive snorkel equipment by far on promotion for ~$15 vs others at $50+ USD (in case you are heading to Akumal beach for turtle snorkeling). The bad: Checkout is painfully slow and the store is super humid inside. While there are 10+ "express checkout lanes, only 2 were open when we were checking out and one had trouble using a customer's credit card, so it was really down to one lane serving 20+ guests. This is all the while 4-5 other associates were just walking around the front of the store chatting with each other. Additionally, we actually ended up needing to return the aforementioned snorkel gear (it was raining too hard in Akumal Beach when we tried to go) and it took forever for customer service to return the snorkels. I guess they've had issues with customers buying snorkels, using them, and then returning them? The associates checked the packaging closely to make sure our snorkels weren't open and then we had to wait for two different managers to come approve the return. This again, while one associate worked the return lane and 2-3 others stood around chatting. read more

AVOID CESAR THE TIMESHARE REP AT ALL COSTS!! Now for the details: this is a typical Wal-Mart - the basics and everything else are sold at a cheap price with long, slow check out lines. The REAL problem, as other reviewers already mentioned, is that the timeshare people rent a space in the store and prey on customers. I've heard all of their nonsense: "please can't you help out my (mother)/(wife)/(whomever);" "it will only take (two)/(five)/(ten) minutes," "you'll get free (groceries)/(tours)/(whatever)" etc. and have never had a problem simply declining and waking away. Until a very nasty, aggressive timeshare rep named Cesar got my new Mexican phone number at this Wal-Mart - he watched me buy a Mexican SIM card at the electronics counter and the worker handed him my info. Although I repeatedly declined while in the store, Cesar the "tour guide" then called and texted me multiple times because I refused to take his "tour" to Isla Mujeres. This is a person wearing a Wal-Mart uniform and name tag, but surely only being rented space there? He texted me for days demanding to know why I wasn't responding, asking what he "did wrong," and eventually sending a string of insults about my total lack of response. It you do choose to go here for the obvious frugality, be wary of any employee offering to assist you. read more

I live in Playa full time and only 2 blocks from the Centro Wal Mart (there are two in Playa). Reading the reviews here I remember why I left the US; arrogant, whining, complaining, spoiled Americans. Yes, all the check out lines are not open. They never know when it's going to be packed or empty; they do the best they can. Yes, it's slow; welcome to Mexico. Yes, it's not freezing like in the US; it's fine for the locals. It's a great store and they have wonderful veggies....on the right day. They do an incredible amount of business and are constantly restocking the shelves....constantly. So, take a deep breath, relax your shoulders, stop complaining, find what you need at the best price in town and enjoy just another experience in Mexico.....gracias. read more

SHOPPER BEWARE!!! We were robbed at the Walmart on 115th in playa del Carmen Mexico April 1 2019.. They stole ALL the cash I owned.. all of our credit cards...ID and so much more...The manager Jorge Negron Rivero was working at the time we were robbed. When we told him that we could identify the thief and wanted to look at the security camera with him, all of a sudden he got very nervous and said NO! We asked him if he cared about protecting his shoppers, his answer was not what we anticipated. He told us that HE needed to review the security camera 1st without us and to come back the next day and told us "he really wanted to help us"...(B.S) What we found out 2 weeks later was that his attitude and behavior was inappropriate to say the least. We had taken a friend who was a Federal police Officer and this manager could have cared less. There was NO respect shown. For 10 days after the robbery, and telling us every day to come back day after day, this manager, Jorge Negron Rivero told us that the footage on the security camera had been deleted and is always deleted in 7 days.. After some investigating it looks like this manager IS part of a sting of these robberies. WE will never forget this violation against us on every level. We called head office in the US 8-10 X trying to get help and they told us they could not help us.. Walmart headquarters in Arkansa gave us the no. to head office in Mexico city only to get hung up on another 8-10X because we spoke English. We had a Mexican Lawyer call and this same woman hung up on him. She refused to give him her name...OR to pass us on to an English speaking agent.. If you shop at Walmart in Mexico and get robbed, do NOT expect any help anywhere. You would think that Walmart being so BIG, you would be helped in some way...WRONG! They are working together ...NOT for you, the shopper. SHOPPER, BEWARE read more
