I'm completely amazed how many walmarts there are in ABQ, but yet the lines are always incredibly long. Fresh produce section. Seems to have a good selection. I use this Walmart all the time and For a Walmart, or in other words as a discount super store with everything in one spot including a nursery for plants, a pharmacy, a grocery store, and all the other regular Walmart products, its a pretty well kept store. I have a longer review below about the problem with yelp and super store reviews. I mean now do you handle an unfriendly CSR when getting mis informed about apple products? BUT then WHO in the world would choose to learn about and buy an apple iPhone in a Walmart? Not me and I use Walmart all the time . But if the item U am using is one requiring specialized and knowledgeable customer service in a cutting edge area of society why in the world would you expect the best service to be from a discount general store!? It is Walmart folks. And the academy Walmart is actually one of the busier and more kept up stores in town. So I put a 5 star review of Walmart to balance a particular weakness of yelp. Namely the superstore reviews. Does anyone really need help becoming aware of Walmart? They are everywhere and as a "jack of all trades" Store they are also MASTER OF NONE. But that does not mean that they aren't VERY BUSY and VERY USEFUL. Below are some thoughts on the subject: Going to Walmart for intimate knowledgable customer service is like going to a local urgent care center for cancer treatment. You have poorly chosen the resource for the job. But that does not mean that the Walmart store or the urgent care clinic is going to be bad at the jobs it was intended to do. An example of a person with a fair beef but who was failed by the way yelp's format Ii set up is the person who who gave Walmart 1 1/2 stars because they got a rude and ignorant advice on buying an Apple Electronics device? My response to that is that while an unfriendly CSR is not great, and never ok, you do not rate a super center that sells literally everything in one place at a low price based on one bad experience with a specialty product. Walmart is a superstore and to rate Walmart poorly on yelp based one bad experience selling a specialty product is while technically following the rules, also a bit harsh and misleading. The fact you can buy Apple at all, at a Walmart is surprising and positive testament to Walmart's huge reach! But the bad review of an the store is also a good illustration of both the weakness of yelp evaluation of super stores and of the weaknesses of superstores with specialty products that require some expertise to sell. I have known forever that if I want expert customer service on electronics, Walmart is not the first or even fifth choice. I think this considered fairly obvious as almost no one on yelp bothers to review Walmart but I know based on Walmart's profit, size and market value that almost everyone uses them. So when a person who is one of only now six people to Review a very busy Walmart and then slam it for not doing something well that is an area that I would not expect it to do well some what distorts the store's reputation. But it is not the reviewers fault. Yelp needs to come up with a better format for big super store like resources in their area. Why? Because Walmart super-center store. Shod be listed as alternatives but in a balanced way. Walmarts are primarily grocery, drug and home hardware stores, with the "everything store product areas of baby gear, kids clothing, toys, recreational gear, cheaper high volume furniture and more serious hardware and electronics thrown in as well. Given their product diversity and genuinely low prices , its a bit hard to rate the entire store based on how well one part of it serves a community. And for yelp to leave such sores out of their search results, or not help Its users more easily review such stores in a useful manner is a real limitation of the platform that should be addressed. read more

I couldn't give zero stars so this will have to do. I went to return a few items and they told me they can only return up to $50 worth of items without a receipt. Their return policy says absolutely nothing about that. They don't even follow their own policies for returns and the lady behind the customer service desk was just rude from the beginning. read more

I was just pretty much attacked by the front door attendant! Apparently you can't take a backpack in larger than 12 inches... My backpack is my purse and it's about 10 inches very small! the lady at the front door charged me and just grabbed my backpack and started measuring it and I didn't know what the heck she was doing... Right after this happened a lady with a big tote bag walks in the door and apparently giant tote bags are fine! Just don't try to enter Walmart with your designer backpack or you will be attacked by the lady at the front door! I understand test is pretty high here in Albuquerque, but really attacking someone as they enter is not the way to go, and it should be a uniform policy where no bags larger than 10 inches are allowed in.! Also if you care to shop in Walmart load up the grocery cart and walk out without paying that will be fine, you won't be attacked!! From now on I will do any shopping of this kind at target! They are much more friendly and cleaner!!! And don't have these absurd policies!!! read more

If I could do none I would. My wife has a small backpack type purse. I'm talking at most 6" by 10" we walked in with a woman who had a shoulder bag that was almost double the size of her backpack. The last time she went the front woman tried to take her purse and started going through it while doing so. So she just left. She came home feeling racially profiled (she is black) i tried to tell her that's probably not what it was. So I went with her this time to make sure I wasn't wrong. Nobody tried to grab her bag this time but they did have the security guard follow us. My wife became extremely upset and decided she didn't want to be there anymore so we left. I handed what I had to the guys at the front and asked if they would put them in go backs. On our way out she walked up with her ruler for some reason and started to tell us she can't have her backpack. We told her it was a purse and we couldn't fit anything in there anyway as it was very full. She continued and we decided to just walk out because it was not worth arguing as the other Walmarts have allowed her to have it. On our way out she told us if my wife walked back in with her purse she would not be allowed in. I did not believe her and I feel stupid because as it is hopefully not racially motivated it very much seemed to be. I looked around as we were leaving and multiple women walked in and out with very large shoulder bags and nobody said anything to them. It's definitely a Walmart. Shopped here today and it was busy and crowded. Got it & got out somewhat quickly. The stores layout is good with a nice flow to it. Out of all the associates in there, not one of them greeted us for the 30 mins we shopped. Some better than usual deals & selection available. Today I made a purchase and on the way to my car, I lost my receipt. When I started to unload my cart I realized I had miscounted a product & needed one more item. Frantically looking for my receipt, I walked back in to the check out where I was before I spoke with Kitty and told her about my ordeal. She checked with Elizabeth(?) and both agreed I was being honest and instructed me to go get the item I was missing. All the way home I couldn't help dwelling on that receipt. So I dropped off my products at my house & decided to go back to Walmart. I'm looking where I last walked (again) & out of nowhere , there is was blowing in the wind...my receipt. Not sure if you believe in karma or think it was just luck, but most importantly I wanted to say thanks to the 2 employees that made a difference. read more

This Walmart is always under stocked. You go and your main staples are out so frequently. Also, now things that are physically in the store are not showing as available on the Pick Up App. I have literally stood in the store next to the item that is right there and pulled up the app and it has said unavailable. I have to admit I love the Pick Up and all the time it saves but it is ridiculous that so many items are under stocked and when in not updated online. read more

My wife and I recently purchased two expensive, large ice coolers and needed to place them in two separate shopping carts. While checking out on 07/14, we were asked to open the coolers to show that they were empty (although we are both 63 years old, I can understand that thieves come in all ages). We opened the coolers, showed that they were empty, then placed them back in the bottom of our baskets. Since we purchased additional items, these (some being heavy, other items in bags also) were placed on top of the coolers in the carts. I paid about $600 on my American Express. As we were exiting (about 25 feet from where we checked out), we were told by the rude security man at the exit that HE would need us to open the coolers to see inside. I told him that they had been checked by the cashier and pointed to her. Regardless, he said that they would need to be opened again! I absolutely refused and told him if he wished to check them that HE could unload the carts to open the coolers. He said that he was not allowed to touch my items. I then told him to call for a manager to explain to me why they had to be checked again and to which I could give permission to unload my carts as I would NOT unload my carts once again. He refused. As I argued with him, two employees came to his aide to be the muscle, I assume. Imagine that. Two muscle employees to handle a 63 year old man and his wife. Maybe they could use that muscle to unload my carts and look in my coolers? While I was arguing with this idiot, my wife, albeit very frustrated also, unloaded both carts so that the coolers could be opened. I was furious that three MEN would stand and watch her. I told them to keep all of our purchase and to refund my money immediately!! My wife, still angry asked that we just go so we left with our purchase. I have never been so infuriated and insulted in my 63 years. This location will NEVER see myself, my wife nor my family at their location again!! Walmart, in general will never see another penny. 10K-12K a year spent may mean nothing to the Walton's, but I am sure that Target will value the additional business and appreciate and respect the newfound pharmacy, grocery and everyday business!! Call SM store, the gal tells me that I better come in tomorrow. I ask how late they're open. She says 24hrs. I clarify that (obviously) I'm asking specifically about the electronics desk. she says 9pm (it's currently 748pm). I ask how long it takes to said calling device (and set up plan renewal)? she says 30min. I ask again, what time they close, to which she confirms 9p, but says w/ a sweet texas drawl, "you best come in tomorrow b/c I don't think anyone can help you right now." wowzers. ok Day2: call ahead to san mateo W-M to find out the "out-the-door" price on said device. mention I am a current customer w/ the "can you hear me now?" company. eligible for upgrade. blah-blah-blah. mention that apparently this (SM) store is the ONLY one in abq which has this "xxxxx5" dialing device (and that I am calling from a "xxxxx4s" dialing device). Csr confirms the price and availability. Drive 20min from house to W-M. arrive to electronics desk to find device NOT IN STOCK. inform assist manager that I "just called and confirmed" before i drove down. she says "you didn't talk to me" to which i say, yes, i understand that, it was a male voice........up walks a csr who looks out of Pirates of Caribbean (missing 3/4 teeth in front). "were you the guy who just called about the "xxxx5"? oh, sorry dude, wow, really sorry. To his credit, he truly meant it. Wow. Ask assist manager to find me a store where they ACTUALLY DO HAVE THE DEVICE. she kindly agrees and spends next 35min (yes, I timed it) on the phone. 1 location in all of BC/Sandoval counties has the device. sheesh. Supposedly they are saving one Day3: Arrive at said W-M (carlisle) to find they actually saved it. after 25min, actually helped to renew contract and (maybe) walk out with device. after 45min (W-M computer not finding my acct), I call verizon cust service, who then attempts to assist W-M csr in doing transaction. employee finally is able to access acct via ph#......and apparently my name is now (I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP) "Kenny Chesney of Alexandria, VA".....i swear i did not make that up. only at walmart. While on phone w/ verizon lady, she says that w/ new ph arriving soon, the "xxxxx5" is now on sale at verizon for 99.99. so 2 bucks more than W-M (was 199.99 the day prior). walked out, drove to verizon store, was done in 19min from the time i walked in the door. total time invested in W-M: 2hrs, 47min. success rate: 0%. Met expectations of W-M?: 100% People of W-M observed while there?: 17 who would qualify for a "people of W-M" photo on FB. Can't say I wasn't warned. This location is closest to my in-laws. Wanted to check it out. Maybe new years eve isn't the best time. At 4:30 PM there wasn't a cart or basket available in the store. If I had known, I would have pushed one of the hundreds in the lot. I recognize that Walmart's color scheme is blue, but this place has such a negative vibe, we rushed to check out and left. Not a big fan of any Walmart, but this one is possibly the worst in the metro. read more

I never expect that much when I go into a WalMart but OMG - this one takes the cake. I do not think the cashiers can move any faster so we decided to go to self-check (not that that was any faster). THEN, the coin machine gave me a Canadian coin instead of a dime - so I asked to get an American dime from the attendant that must have thought she was way overworked. By her expression, you would have thought I asked for a 1,000 bill - but it gets better. Apparently, WalMart does not give their attendants the authority to do much of anything so I had to wait for a manager. Every time I visit, I am reminded why I haven't been to it for so long. We went in seeking three things: a watch battery, a window scraper, and a Nintendo Amiibo dock (a plug-and-play video game reader). They struck out, 0 for 3. Even with employee help, the watch battery could not be found, and we checked all three places that it could have been (in contrast, it took us under 30 seconds to find it at our subsequent Walgreens stop). Considering there was a storm blowing into town, a new ice scraper would be nice, but those could not be found in automotive care. There wasn't even a hanging peg for them? Normal windows? Nope. Inclement weather gear? Not so fast, my friend. Finally, the video game accessory. We checked online, and the store claimed to have them in stock. Again, we couldn't find where it was supposed to be shelved, and the employee we asked (from that department) didn't know what we were talking about. He was willing to look it up, and it turned out that they haven't had those in stock for some time. Odd, since they sell the accessories that plug into it. Well, my usual Wal-Mart experience ended up how it usually does. After this experience with Team Blue, it's back to my firm footing on Team Red. read more

As Walmarts go, I'm not a fan for sure. A lady we used to know used to describe it as a "vortex of negative energy." Of course she spent chunks of the year in Sedona, so I always took the comment with a grain of salt. That being said, I get what she's saying. Political and corporate debates about this giant aside, this particular store feels odd in its layout and somewhat limited in its stock. On this day, there wasn't a shopping cart to be found in the store. We had to hunt one down in the aisles. My biggest criticism, however, was a terrible checkout experience. Lines, lines, lines---limited staff----not a manager to be found trying to help them. I generally avoid Walmart. I need all the positivity I can get. read more

I do come around in the later hours so it is a lot more peaceful and don't get the full experience of busyness although so far every encounter I have had here has been quite pleasant. Went in to pick up some items for a junior high school project. Really was not successful in the toy department. Not a great selection. At the self check out the kid had to have a snack. I Let her get one of the dollar cheese it snacks. On our way out she opens it and realizes after taking off the lid that the safety seal has been broken. I looked at the never ending line at customer service and thought to myself heck I'll just buy her another one. However the gentleman running the self-service Check out let us just take another one. My wife and I moved to this area about a year ago, so this is our closest Walmart. Like others have said, The selection is minimal and what they do you have they are always out of. Went in today at 7:00 pm did my usual shopping, was going through the check out and my son needed to use the bathroom... with my hands tied I allowed my child to use the bathroom by himself adding that he needed to use the women's. Finished checking out my child meets me maybe 15 feet away at a register to inform me that an employee said he had to "get out" and use the mens bathroom. I went to the women's bathroom to see if this said employee was in the bathroom, was met by a lovely women named DAWN, who not only came off rude and short but had the nerve to laugh in my face after I said " please do not tell my child what restroom he can and can't use" she then made me follow her to a Assistant manager STEPHANIE who said that my child using the women's bathroom was not okay, that my child who is 8 should use the mens, and that my CHILD made A GROWN women feel uncomfortable using the bathroom at the same time as her. So not only did Walmart deny my child the use of a restroom because there employee ( A grown ) women but they subsequently labeled my 8 year old a threat or pervert. The assistant manager only after the employee walked away said " she ( dawn ) should have not said anything to your child" and when questioned why she didn't say that to DAWN I was told that she wasn't going to scold her employee in front of me. I am beyond pissed and will be calling every manager leaving messages, calling corporate to let them now of the situation. Walmart you need to do a better job with your employees, I will NEVER shop here again. read more

Had a most unpleasant experience in front of the store this morning. A den of cub scouts were harassing customers, demanding donations. When I nicely explained to them that if their parents wanted them to be in scouts they should being willing to pay for it. An overweight woman in a scout leaders' uniform let me know it was very expensive, that she had to pay $40 a year for her child to be in scouts and she was a leader. I said, that's your choice. She started beating her chest, literally, and saying we are all single mothers out here, you know how difficult it is to find a good man, no I said, I don't. I've been married to a good man for 56 years and he wasn't that difficult to find at all. I am an elderly handicapped woman who has a great deal of trouble walking. Walmart has always been a pleasant place to shop, but not when they are letting these people control the flow into and out of their store. read more

This Walmart is the most closest to my house. However, the selves are often empty and the selection is minimal compared to other Walmart stores in ABQ. Customer service is not the greatest and often unfriendly. I often have to go next door to the Smiths to get items Walmart did not have or was out of. I guess one would be better off going to Smiths instead. read more

Hands down the worst Walmart I've ever been in. Employee blasting his head banger metal music at full volume while stocking. Does anyone train them? The parking lot is beautiful with trees, too bad there aren't enough cart returns because people just leave them in parking spaces rather than walk 50 yards to a cart return bin. Employees. This morning I went to Walmart on Academy at approximately 6:35 to pick up some things for the work week. Apparently in an effort to minimize labor costs they only have the last register open, you know the one where they sell tobacco and liquor, because Walmart doesn't have enough money already. None of the 12 or so self checkouts are open, just one cashier. So as I get to the register, there are two customers already in line checking out. As it becomes my turn to check out, the young lady with a heart tattoo across her chest seams nice enough. She greats me with a "good morning", which in today's day in age is a miracle in itself. She scans my items and now it's time to process my debit card. Now what happened the week prior at the same register, for some reason my chip does not work. So what happened was the lady made me attempt to rum my card through the chip reader 3 times, after that I was able to swipe my card. Fast forward back to this morning, apparently this young lady was not made familiar with this procedure. So now there are more customers lining up behind me because this process is not going as smoothly as last week. I ask the cashier if she would call the manager to assist with the situation. She does something with the phone, but says nothing into it. I ask if she can void my purchase to assist the customers behind me, the customers thank me for my offer. I start pacing now, because I'm worried I'll be late for work at 7:00. So a about a minute passes, and I ask the cashier if she actually called anyone because I didn't hear any announcement made. She then says, "well I tried". Which I reply "try again". So she walks over to the eye care store and makes a loud speaker announcement "Can I please have a manager come to register 9", which I hear. So now a few minutes pass, and I'm pacing around and notice a gentlemen with a blue vest with a white button shirt walk to the front of the store and stand there a look around. Maybe he doesn't know where register 9 nine is. So I walk up to him and ask if he's the manager, he replies yes. I quickly explain the situation to him and tell him I need his assistance with processing my purchase. He walks over to the register and inserts a key, and does what the cashier the week prior did, which is make me attempt to run my chip three times, and then swipe. As we are finishing up with the process, I say to the manager Daniel, "It shouldn't be this hard for me to give you my money". Which he replies "Well maybe you should get a new card". Not "Sorry for the inconvenience sir", or "We'll look into why your card does not work at the register". I deal with customers in my line of work and I would never speak to customer the way Daniel spoke to me. I will never as long as I live go into that store for anything ever again. read more

I don't go to Walmart that often but this is the closest box store to where we live and its next door to a Smiths and some other stores that I do frequent. Sometimes I stop in to get a handful of item. As far as Walmarts go, it's not great. They have been doing construction for six months or maybe even a year. The store inside has been dirty and I times I have sensed the toxic chemicals from the construction work. Its been disorganized and things are constantly being moved around the store so unless you go all the time, its hard to know where anything is. read more

Week before last I order about $1,300.00 in merchandise for a CYFD Baby Shower project Academy Mortgage participated in. I was a little stressed because we were getting down to the wire and some of the items were delayed. However, on Wednesday of last week when I went to pick up the items that had arrived, I had the pleasure of meeting Amaris in the on line order pick up department. She had such a pleasant can do attitude that my mood and stress level immediately improved. She was so accommodating. She told me to meet her in the baby section and she would she if they had some of the items I still needed in stock. She was able to find a few items. I was impressed by the fact that she went out of her way to help me. She then took it to the next level. She told me not to worry that the remaining items in the shipment should arrive no later than 2pm and that she would call me when they arrived. She did in fact call me to let me know the remaining items had arrived. When I arrived at the store she had everything loaded and ready to go. Unfortunately you do not receive that type of personal service very often. I thanked her several times, but want to make sure everyone knows what an asset Amaris is to the Walmart corporation. read more
