For our 20th anniversary, we were looking for more than just a great steak dinner, we wanted an experience. After several locals recommended Antiquity, we quickly learned why reservations are so hard to come by. We couldn't secure a table on our actual anniversary, but managed to get one a couple of nights later, and it was well worth the wait. From the outside, Antiquity is understated. Step inside, however, and you're immediately welcomed into a warm, intimate atmosphere that feels like a hidden gem tucked away in Old Town Albuquerque. Owner Steve, who has been running the restaurant for nearly three decades, greeted us personally. His passion for hospitality was evident from the moment we arrived. While we waited briefly for our table, he took time to learn about us, ask what types of food we enjoy, and offer thoughtful menu recommendations. The restaurant itself is charming and authentic, with an old-world steakhouse feel that perfectly complements the historic New Mexico setting. Many of the tables and booths are arranged to create private, intimate dining spaces, making it an ideal choice for special occasions. We were touched when Steve seated us at what he called the "anniversary table," complete with a small scattering of heart confetti, despite our celebration having technically passed. Service throughout the evening was exceptional. Rather than relying on a single server, the entire staff worked seamlessly together. Water glasses were never less than half full, empty plates disappeared almost instantly, and every member of the team seemed genuinely invested in ensuring guests had a memorable experience. Even the kitchen staff engaged warmly with diners, adding to the welcoming atmosphere. As for the food, it exceeded every expectation. We started with oysters on the half shell, which my husband thoroughly enjoyed. I upgraded to the special salad, a beautiful combination of greens, apples, strawberries, mandarin oranges, walnuts, bacon, and a creamy mini brie, all brought together with a delicious pear vinaigrette. For our entrée, we chose the Châteaubriand for two. It was expertly prepared, carved tableside, and cooked perfectly. Every recommendation we received was spot-on, and the meal was so impressive that before leaving, I made another reservation for later that week just so I could return and try more of the menu before our trip ended. Antiquity offers beer and wine rather than a full bar, which was perfectly fine for us and fit the restaurant's classic, understated character. This is not an inexpensive dinner, nor should it be. What you're paying for is exceptional food, genuine hospitality, flawless service, and an atmosphere that is increasingly difficult to find. Antiquity doesn't simply serve dinner, it creates an experience. Starting with the positive, the Really Good Stuff: The food was excellent, the steak with artichoke was fabulous, as was the cold pear soup and the special salad. Really excellent food, everyone enjoyed their dishes immensely. The Not so Great: They were out of the wines we tried to order - all 3 that we tried to order off the menu, none of which were crossed off (dozens were already blacked out). We finally stopped trying to pick what we wanted and just asked for a suggestion out of what they actually had in-stock, that was similar to what we asked for off the menu that they didn't have. We wound up spending more than what we had originally selected, but the wine was good. It's unclear why they're out of 60% or more of the wines on their menu. They said something about "switching over", whatever that means (from what to what?). They should just print a new menu with what they actually have, not play this game where you try to guess what they might not be out of, that's dumb. Even if it's just a couple of pages of wines that they really have, that's better than 6 pages of stuff that isn't avaialable. Service was mixed, our waiter Shawn was great, but there were other issues, below. The building has some deferred maintenance issues, the bench seat at our booth fell apart when we got up, stuff like that. The entry wasn't very welcoming, but the food was so good, it would make up for everything, except for this.... Now for the Really Bad: We told them about allergies at the table, but when I ordered the dessert crepe with cherries jubilee, I was instead served a crepe chock full of walnuts. Wrong dish, and I'm allergic to walnuts. It was rolled up and filled, so I thought maybe the cherries were inside. I took a bite and has an immediate effect. I spit out the bite (which is embarrassing to have to do at a restaurant with guests), but it was too late. It's not life threatening or anything, but I spent a very miserable night, as a result. I barely got an apology 'sorry they delivered the wrong dish', but no serious concern, and not a single penny off the bill. They didn't even take the charge off for the dessert that I didn't get the first time, and was unable to eat once they gave it to me, because my mouth was on fire. Our table of 4 spent about $400, so it seems like they could have done a little something for us. At least sincere concern, but it it existed, it was never expressed to me. On the way out, I spoke to the owner, who was standing out front (yelling at wait staff about when tables were clearing), and told him the situation. He literally said "what do you want me to do about it?" Well, Dude, something. But no, nothing. He said he will train the staff to be more careful. That seems like something that should have been done already, so this didn't happen to begin with. He said "I owe you one", but didn't take my name or any information for this future unnamed favor, didn't offer a gift certificate, or even a dessert to take home. It seems serving food the customer is allergic to should warrant some kind of acknowledgement. At least a free dessert, or a gift certificate to enjoy a future meal - one without an allergic reaction. Not sure if I'm going back. The food was so excellent, I may go back, but the other experience was very unhappy. read more

Yes, you have to plan ahead and call repeatedly. Could there be a better system? Sure. Do they need to accommodate complaints when they have no trouble filling tables? No, so don't expect change for the sake of patrons' convenience. At least the person who answers the phone, and frankly, that's more than you get from most restaurants these days. Very unassuming on the outside. Inside, you can tell it's an established place that's been around for a while. Arrived a few minutes early for our celebratory reservation and were seated right away in a quiet, private book surrounded by art and dim lighting. For starters, my gumbo was good, and his salad looked as good as it tasted. For entrees, husband got sucked in by the specials and ordered the schnitzel, which (to quote Shania) didn't impress me much. To clarify, there was nothing wrong with it, but I've had a lot of schnitzel, and it just failed to stand out. I kept to the classics with a filet mignon. To my surprise, it left the same impression. Again, absolutely nothing wrong with it - cooked well, quality cut, etc. - but I've had more memorable steaks at High Noon Saloon. *shrug* Highlight: The servers were exceptional. Lowlight: The sconce / light fixture over our table was in need of a dusting. Overall: A lovely evening to toast my guy's significant professional achievement. We went here for my daughters birthday. When I walked in after dropping the group off to go park I was greeted by a guy picking his nose leaning on the bar. The restaurant was dirty and well worn out, they were out of nearly every wine on the menu and had literally only 2 whites one of which was an $6 sweet wine, and for the red i had a choice between $510 Opus One and the stuff at the other end of the price spectrum. Fun fact, my great grandparents used to own this building! They had a restaurant called baron of beef! The food was great! The potato's were so delicious that I thought about ordering seconds! We got super lucky to be able to be seated as walk ins, their reservation list was packed (to be expected for a Friday). The server (I think Daniel) was excellent, he gave great recommendations on the house specials for the evening, and their service is out of this world - even refolding your napkins and stuff when you step away to the washroom. Everything we ate was terrific, even the cream of mushroom soup blew our socks off - it is finished with truffle oil that really elevates the dish. My fish meal (I cannot recall the type of whitefish that it was) was excellent. The potatoes were perfectly soft throughout with a crispness on the sautéed edges, and the lemon caper sauce was top tier. My partner had the Henry IV, which was the perfect portion - a bacon wrapped filet mignon topped with artichoke hearts in béarnaise sauce, and served over the artichoke leaves. Presentation was great, and the price point was bang on for all of our dishes. It was our first night on spring break in ABQ, and we happened upon this spot in Old Town somewhat by accident. Two weeks ago, my wife had her birthday weekend. I chose two restaurants for a Saturday and Sunday dinner. We went on a Saturday late dinner to Antiquity Restaurant. Reservations were a little bit hard because it's not online but I finally got a phone reservation on my 5th day. Call them between 4-5 pm when I guess they're not busy with service. Sean was our server and he was very pleasant and professional. We have been here before so we declined for him to explain the menu. It was a candle lit dinner and very romantic. We had crab cakes that are the best in ABQ so far and chowder soup. For entrees, we had the jumbo scallops and Henry IV filet mignon wrapped in bacon with artichoke hearts. only because there is no six-star rating I've given it five stars. our experience at Antiquities came at a difficult time for our family, in town for our brother being in hospice and close to passing. After leaving the hospice pretty late and trying other eating establishments with long wait times, we 'stumbled' into Old Town and Antiquities. Steve Salazar, the owner (with his wife) greeted us and told us we could be seated if we were willing to wait for about 30 minutes. Boy, are we glad we did! The ambiance in this old house was incredible and our server (who has worked there for 21 years) was knowledgeable and attentive. But the FOOD: rack of lamb cooked to perfection! Sea scallops were incredible! Salmon moist and paired with vegetables perfectly and one, beautiful filet mignon! salads with homemade olive oil based blue cheese dressing was delicious and a VERY extensive wine list. Visiting for the Balloon Fiesta and decided to venture to this restaurant for our 25th wedding anniversary. Ambiance - it was what I would expected for eating in old town Albuquerque...small, rustic, with the adobe feel...distressed wood beams, brick floor and quaint, dark room, we had an intimate two person both...was perfect. Service- manager greeted us promptly and accommodated our anniversary and put us in a nice table with confetti, nice touch. Our waiter greeting and covered the specials and I told him I had a tree nut allergy. He did a nice job on the salad and put the pecan nuts on the side. Unfortunately, when it came to dessert, he covered the in-house homemade desserts. I ordered the key lime pie which was lovely for the first bit until I realized the shaved almonds on top were not graham cracker crumbs. No Bueno!!! When I asked him if this was nuts, he said yes... no apology, no oh my gosh, just yep heres the bill. Food - I really enjoyed the special salad with Granny Smith apples, Asian pears, berries with a lovely vinaigrette. My husband had the homemade New England claim chowder, it was lighter (not heavy cream based) which he liked and had a green chili which gave it a nice kick. Our main course was the petite filet cooked to my liking over an open charcoal grill accompanied by delish broccolini, carrots and scalloped potatoes. My husband had the special veal schnitzel with a nice homemade pasta and sun-dried pesto sauce. Absolutely incredible! The ambiance is quaint and classy and the service is some of the best I've ever experienced. They even scraped crumbs off our table in between courses. I tried their Rockefeller oysters and was in heaven. I upgraded the house salad also and was very pleased. I don't usually remember a salad at the end of the meal but the berries, dressing, and fried Brie cheese was just perfect. What a gem we found coming to Albuquerque for a conference. We were lucky to be able to walk in on a day with no reservations and get a table. The waiter was phenomenal. The food was even better. We started with oysters Rockefeller that were out of this world which always surprises me when I'm in the middle of the dessert. My husband got the special which was lamb chops, which were probably the best lamb chops he's ever had. He also had the roasted garlic soup that was amazing. I had the house specialty, Henry IV fillet with the artichoke heart that was delicious. I cannot stress how wonderful the weight staff are busboy included. We asked if there was a bar to wait at and he said, "No" and turned his back to us. The food was phenomenal but the rudeness of the owner was unprofessional and tacky. I visited here for a work dinner for the first time. Place is cozy and really small. The service was outstanding. We started with sautéed mushrooms and oysters Rockefeller. Both were very delicious. I had the Ono fish special with a vegetable medley and upgraded salad that was phenomenal and the dessert trio was a great way to taste a collection of the desserts. Although our reservation was late evening, upon entering the restaurant we were greeted by several employees and servers who were informative and extremely helpful even though they were not our server. Seated quickly we received another warm welcome with exceptional service. The server was patient although it took a while to decide what to order. The food was delicious - seasoned well, temperature right on and good portions. The server must have overheard my saying Happy Birthday before coming over to ask if desert was next - because we were surprised to have been given the desert chosen with a candle at no charge. We had such a great experience on our last visit that we wanted to come back again for another special occasion. Everything from my earlier review still stands. We had the same waiter as last time (James) who was still fantastic. I had the Henry IV (this was the steak with artichoke that I'm obsessed with). They also had red chile posole as the soup of the day and it was absolute perfection on a chilly fall evening. Hubby had a filet medallion schnitzel which was very tasty and different. The oysters were on point. My one (major) recommendation is to have the host and reservation service match the service you receive at the restaurant. The call in reservations are not just a pain but the host (I think there's only the one) is not terribly welcoming either on the phone or when you arrive. Both our visits in the last several months those two things have been the biggest draw back. I still love this place though and I'm really happy that we rediscovered it. read more

Me and my wife finally secured a reservation at Antiquity. Arriving early we were promptly seated at a table for two. It was in a nice corner that felt secluded and romantic. The ambience of the restaurant is very nice and the service was impeccable. We weren't feeling any of the appetizers so skipped those but went with the Chateaubriand for Two. A lot of the specials sounded very enticing, but we were in the mood for beef. The Chateaubriand comes with soup or salad. My wife got the French onion soup and I got the salad. It was nice with a light vinaigrette and the cheese on the side was amazing. For the Chateaubriand it was cooked over an open fire and was perfectly a medium rare. The mashed potatoes were perfectly prepared and the mushroom and gravy made the dish perfect. We tried the dessert as well, and it was so good I forgot to take a picture. They had a special tiramisu cheesecake that was good. Pretty much tasted more of a coffee cheesecake. I liked it. We also got a desert sampler with Crème Brûlée, a chocolate mousse, and key lime pie. My wife loved the key lime pie, I liked the mousse and the crème brûlée was okay. Between the amazing service and excellent food, we would come back again and plan to soon. Last Thursday my family and I ate here for a birthday dinner. Everything was fine until the food arrived. I ordered the Henry the IV. I asked for my steak to be medium rare. The server arrived and told me to be careful with the toothpick that was meant to hold the bacon to the beef. He told me the cook could not find the missing pieces of toothpick so I needed to "be careful". I didn't think much of it until I started chewing. Found one hard piece. I put it on my plate to examine, sure enough toothpick. The piece was small. I went on to continue eating until this happened two more times. The third and final piece of toothpick was much larger than the previous two. Is this normal practice? Do customers just have to "be careful" when the cook can't find lost pieces in the food? Shouldn't they have kept the steak and cooked me a new one? The owner saw me after the incident and asked how everything was. I told him everything was great aside from the toothpick. He told me he can usually get 99/100 toothpicks and asked if the server warned me. I told him "yes", the server warned me. That was it. Conversation ended. No concession was offered, no apology. Antiquity offers you THE best of everything and I've never said that about a restaurant. We think it is THE premier restaurant of Albuquerque. Aside from the food, we loved that the walls were decorated with artwork by local artists - it created such a nice vibe. We started with stuffed mushrooms and raw oysters. The latter happened to be a special offering for the evening. The mushrooms were stuffed with Italian sausage and herbs - they were the best I've ever eaten! Big kudos to the kitchen! We are big fans of raw oysters and these were from New England - plump and full bodied. We asked for crackers to accompany ours and they brought us some toasted crostinis - perfect! Take a look at the salad I ordered as my entree - it was the best house salad I've ever eaten. Plus, the presentation was magazine worthy. Fruit, lettuces, a soft crouton stufffed with Gruyère, seasoned pecans, vegetables - it was mouthwatering and delicious. Reservations are required and you'll probably talk to Steve, the owner, when making yours. Our service provider was Gus and he was attentive without being overbearing. I heard from multiple sources that Antiquity Restaurant is unquestionabley on the short list of candidates for best restaurant in Albuquerque. Armed with these trusted recommendations, I made a dinner reservation a month in advance, and then we dined here. Antiquity did NOT disappoint! Located in the touristy portion of Old Town, when we arrived and saw the exterior for the 1st time I didn't have high hopes for the interior, but it turned out to be all good; the inside is dark, cozy, and almost dripping with Old World charm. We were seated at a small, semi-private wooden booth, and we could smell and hear them cooking steaks on the charcoal grill inside their brick and stone oven; you can actually see the oven when you walk in the door. We started off with a soup, made with chicken, cream, and green chilis; it was delicious, and the salad they served with it was even better :-) We both ordered ribeye steaks as our entree. The steaks were perfectly seasoned, wonderfully marbled, and beautifully presented, with fresh vegetables and broccoli and cheddar mashed potatoes. Service was informative, attentive, and friendly - the owner even stopped by toward the end of the meal to make sure we were receiving good care (a very nice touch!). Sean was our super personable, pleasant and efficient waiter, supported by a terrific wait staff (I managed a restaurant for 2+ years and these 3 fellows were professionally top notch). Although they were packed, all waits were reasonable. The food was almost indescribably delicious and beautifully presented. Husband had chicken Madagascar w/house salad , 'house' Chardonnay and I Medallions Poivre w/ SW clam chowder starter (Cabernet). I grew up on farm raised-beef and my med.rare steak was PERFECTION. Chef elevated Jim's chicken dish to ALMOST making me covetous. We weren't rushed nor pressed to order coffee or dessert but bill was handled smoothly and we were thanked by Sean and another individual on our leaving. Bill w/ 18% tip was reasonable $115. I came into town on business and heard great things about this restaurant so I decided to bring my colleague and business partner here for a business dinner. The restaurant's website stated all seating was by reservation and wanted patrons to call for reservations. The phone was appeared to be off of the hook as it busy and never ranged. Since it was a rainy Thursday evening, we decided to stop in and see if we could be accommodated. The host had his back turned to the front door. I asked if we have a table for three. He looked me up and down and said in a very abrasive tone, "In 15-30 minutes!" I replied okay. I wanted to explain that I tried calling to alert him that their phone maybe off the hook because it ranged busy. He cut me off and yelled 15-30 minutes and proceeded to turn his back on me. I was not only embarrassed for him but also myself and my colleagues. We immediately left as I am not in the business of supporting a business that is rude. From the moment we arrived, I was very impressed with our team of servers; Sean and his young female trainee provided incredibly professional and attentive service throughout our meal without in any way being overbearing or intrusive.  I especially liked that they actually told us about the specials right after giving us our menus.  This allowed us to consider both the listed and unlisted available selections before making our choices - I wish all restaurants did it that way :-) We started off our meal by sharing the Escargot appetizer; this turned out to be a delicious choice, with a very generous portion size.  Next, we shared two entrées - the Halibut and the Chicken Madagascar.  Both dishes were beautifully presented and nicely decorated with sauces that enhanced their aesthetic appeal with color; they were both very tasty, but my hands-down favorite of the two was the Chicken Madagascar.  It had a wonderfully striking flavor profile, which included both Green Peppercorns and mushrooms. Because our entrées were both exceptional and served with generous portion sizes, we finished every last bite, and so had absolutely no room for dessert.  I guess we're just going to have to make a point of coming back again very soon! I have heard many good things about iniquity and I was super excited to finally get to go. It was amazing such a beautiful small space to be in my server was knowledgeable and friendly. My steak was 10 out of 10. The oysters were fabulous. Everything was beyond expectation very happy I was able to go cannot wait to go again. read more

Food, service and ambiance were top notch! You can tell these people really care about a wonderful experience for each guest. We never order oysters when we're not near the ocean - but we had to try these, and we're so glad we did. Months later, I still think of them, and this restaurant! read more

I would love to review the food, but can't seem to get a hold of someone to make a reservation. When I did talk to someone, they had accidently answered the call and I know this because they started dialing before they realized I was on the phone. I've tried three days since and can't get through. They are literally leaving their phone off the hook, as I tried for an hour to get through.
