Unlike many grocery stores, they have both self service (if you're in a hurry) as well as full service cashiers. I say that to say, I don't often get to the Kroger on Sentinel Drive just off Battlefield Boulevard in the heart of Chesapeake. If they were closer, things would be different. When I do stop by here, it's usually on my way home from shopping somewhere else to pick up a few items. That's unfortunate because this is a fantastic grocery store. They have a nice selection of fresh fruit and vegetables in their produce section. The meat department is equally well stocked. Their prices are reasonable comparatively speaking but for me, the infrequency of my visits here boils down to proximity.

My first encounter with the chain was many years ago down in Georgia and was one of the things I knew I would miss when I moved back home. Fast forward a couple years later, and ALDI starts popping up all over Hampton Roads. Praise the Lord! Now, there are certain things I will still continue to buy at other markets, just because I think their store brand or the name brand tastes better, but I always do the bulk of my grocery shopping here. I'm sure I could find better deals on some items at another store, but I simply don't have time to coupon or cost compare. The prices here are outstanding, especially for organic produce and dairy as well as meat and frozen foods. Bonus: they have Blue Bell ice cream! My recent love affair is with Aldi's curbside pickup. The online website for pickup or delivery is easy to navigate, there's no additional fee, and it saves me so much time (and in store toddler meltdowns). Once you get to the store, check in through the text message link, and they'll load your groceries in no time flat. Oh aldi, how I love thee!

The store is not hard to navigate either, but sometimes items can be hard to find, or online might say it is in stock when it isn't. Sometimes the meats section does seem a bit limited on precut meats, but we are not that picky usually. I do wish they did have a bigger variety of ethnic items. My main gripe is that sometimes the self checkout can get pretty backed up, mainly because the machines always error out and there is only one employee usually assigned to self checkout. It does seem like they could use another section of self checkout machines, maybe even an express line aside from self checkout.

I will say, it was completely redone the best way it could. There are a lot more self checkouts. They seemed to have a better and greater selection of clothes for the whole family. Their food section was great to be honest. They had a good amount of organics. However, they were out of some fresh herbs that I needed. I was in the makeup section and needed some items in the glass case. I alerted an employer and within minutes had someone there to open it for me. Checkout was pretty easy to operate. I had a question and an employee was nice enough to help. If I had to come back here again I probably wouldn't hesitate if in the area. I still prefer my neighborhood "Grassfield Walmart" above all.
