The Holland Road Kroger Marketplace is not a store I shop at as much as others in Virginia Beach due to location. But I've got to say it may be worth the additional distance after a few visits the past month. Let's go through some highlights as related to compare with other area Kroger's, first they are a Marketplace which means they carry more than groceries. They have a good home goods selection. Something I found unique was the amount of Carhartt merchandise. I mean a lot! They also have the third largest wine and beer selection in Virginia Beach, it's massive! They offera larger inventory in every department and seem to have items I cannot find on Republic, or Shore stores. I had an interaction with the manager regarding a specialty beer they have had in the past, but did not have. She was helpful and apologized. Overall the store is impressive. Although my update remains neutral, it been seven years. The grocery ishuge, it's organized and clean. I will likely work the Holland Kroger store in my rotation. read more

This is one of my go to grocery store choices in the area because they have a great selection of meat, produce, and whatever else you need. There is a pharmacy too. Plenty of parking and the parking lot is well lit at night. It is typically well kept and inside the store is clean. Bathrooms available and a Starbucks inside. The one thing that annoys me about this location is that at night they solely rely on self checkout and will only have one employee there and everything moves so slow. The line gets so backed up, it's painful so I always try to avoid coming here after 8pm. It is also hit or miss with the staff's helpfulness/friendliness. Definitely way better to shop here first thing in the morning but that's typical with most grocery stores. read more

I was on a mission to find cheeseburger doritos, so off to Kroger I went. At first I lost hope. It was 3 aisles of chips. Kinda overwhelming. But tucked way way in the back were my chips. $6 was kinda steep, but I came to far not to get them. You have to refinance your home and get a part time job to afford stuff that was cheap just a few years ago. Smh. I do love me some Kroger though, especially when it's not crowded. I don't particularly like large crowds, so just being in the parking lot feels like it's half of VA Beach inside. There were 2000 cars outside. But once inside it wasn't so bad. I had to stop by the restroom, which is unisex... It smelled like hot pee and major booty inside, and it was pee on the floor. I sincerely didn't expect that!! Ewwee. Then there wasn't any toilet paper or tissues. I had to talk to my bladder to compromise, because I just couldn't do it .. lol. So I made a quick trip around the store. Some prices are good and some aren't. I do love finding clearance items. It's like a scavenger hunt for me. Plus I've been looking for a shallow plate/bowl and I was so geeked that they had them for $5. It was good quality. I'm a big fan of the deli. The Boar's Head meats are so good!! But $15 per lb had me deciding which of my kids wouldn't be going to college. Whoa! Their chicken also looked pretty good for only $5 which was awesome!!! I also appreciate that they sell celery by the stalk... That's great if you don't need a whole bundle. The fruit was a little pricey though. $8 for cut up watermelon chunks is wild. You can buy a whole watermelon for that price. It ended up not being sweet at all. I do wish they'd seal the containers or tape the sides. I don't like that anyone could open them and put it back and no one would even notice... The ice cream section has lots of choices if you have a sweet tooth. There is one section with individual ice creams that look freezer burnt , like they've been there for years. I don't know what that's all about. But throw that away please!!! The store is big and has lots to look at. I did enjoy looking around... Make sure you use your Kroger card for savings. I like to put it in at the end so I feel better by seeing all the savings. This Kroger was not quite as nice as I expected... I thought this was one of those Super Krogers but I guess with it being a Marketplace it's a bit different and I don't know if I've ever actually been to a specific Kroger Marketplace until now. They did have unique setup by the deli, breads, etc. section with some nice wines and other items. I found it hard to locate some items (probably bc I had never been here before) and won't make it a usual stop in my rotation. Still, it's unique and was clean and had some new items I haven't seen in other stores around town. read more

This grocery store has fallen off so much. The produce is covered in fruit flies. You can't get any customer service. The fuel station is outdated. Pumps either don't work or you have to go to employee to get receipt that's if they are even in the booth. read more

Grocery shopping in Virginia Beach, Virginia... This was our last shopping stop of the day. Our main goal was fresh corn and watermelon (they were on sale). However, since we were here, we walked around. It was surprising to me to see clothing in a grocery store! Haha! We didn't have time to look, so, maybe on our next visit... My friend chose corn with the husks. She let me select the watermelon. We didn't have time to eat them for dinner because we're so busy prepping for our camping trip with the Girl Scouts. Hello I just wanted to give Ms. Juanita her flowers. We visited this morning and she was such a joy. She made my son and laugh and she made sure a visit was pleasurable. I visited this location last month before work around 7:30 in the morning and was told that the barista couldn't make my drink unless it was quick. She stated that she had to make her mobile orders. Mind you I just had witnessed her make a few of the Kroger employees drinks and hold a full on conversation with them. I politely smiled and told her I would just go somewhere else. Ms. Juanita on the other hand had a smile on her face she greeted us and because of her I will visit when she is there. You can tell when a soul is genuine. read more

This store has gone way downhill in just a few years-it isn't very clean, and the produce tends to be overripe. Recently I was in there for the first time in a good while, and there was a guy walking a dog across the produce department. Not a service dog, no vest or identification of any kind-just a pet on a leash. Sorry, but with the exception of service animals, dogs have no place in a food store, especially around uncovered produce, and I'm floored that no one said anything. Just because the rest of the world insists on fawning over dogs doesn't mean I want to step in dog doo or find dog hair all over my food. This Kroger has served us well, it's definitely been my go-to during the pandemic! I love that they offer free pickups. The inside of the store is always clean, but man it got me frustrated when they recently moved to putting all the "natural foods" sections dispersed throughout the store. It makes it take much longer for me to shop in store now, and I really can't find everything I need usually, so I've gone to mostly using WF and TJ instead. Overall service is good and pickups are quick and easy, they do a great job with that. Just frustrated with the layout, not sure why some stores have gone to that method. read more

Sooo I have rated this Kroger before and didn't have the greatest experience; actually it was a horrible experience. However, today I had a great experience! The store was fully stocked, organized and had some good clerks working. The deli department was busy and they were doing a great job getting things done today. It is a older African American women , with short hair, wears gold jewelry that helped me today at the deli (wish I could see her name) sorry that I had to describe. She was amazing and helpful! So, I love this Kroger for two reasons: Variety AND THEIR CAKES. At my office, we do monthly parties and my department has hosted them a couple of times a year. I always put in the basic theme of our office party in the order form and it's always a sheet cake, with marble filling and whipped icing, but I tell them to just do what they want and get creative. The bakery does an amazing job decorating my build-a-cakes every time. I accidentally ordered from another location and it was the most boring cake ever. The employees at this particular location also always seem happy to have decorated my cake when I go pick it up and are very friendly and nice. They're always colorful and fun to look at, so much so that people used to think I went to a standalone bakery and got the cake or went to a wholesale grocery store. My favorite cake they've made so far was the Dia de los Muertos cake. It was moist, flavorful, ad the decoration was amazing. In terms of variety, I do drive out of my way to come to this Kroger to get certain vegetables, seafood, and hard to find groceries that the Kroger nearest to me doesn't have. The seafood has been a great selection and looked very fresh and I can get vegetables for hot pot at home like bok choy when I don't want to go all the way to an international store. The staff is very friendly at this location and we've done grocery pickup here too. It has taken longer than 20 minutes sometimes, but that's because it was right around a holiday and everyone was out and about buying things last minute or everyone was in worried about a storm and we didn't realize a storm was coming through. I like that this Kroger is a marketplace Kroger, so it's very large even with lots of people in it. The restrooms are always clean as well as the store itself. read more

I've only been here once but I became a fan of Kroger as it's the only close grocery store to us back home. This Kroger is enormous, absolutely huge. We came to grab a small smash (colossal cup)-cake for my son's birthday and so we only went to one side. The bakery is plentiful but it didn't have as many cake options as we have back home. What really caught our eye is a mochi freezer. A MOCHI FREEZER. For 2/$6, it's a bit pricey but you can pick from a variety of flavors. They also have a really nice cheese selection available. Their to-go meal right next to the cheese area has a decent amount of choices but they didn't have the orange chicken my daughter likes. Their self check out was in full swing and as I finished paying, an associate asked if he could help bring my items to my car. How thoughtful! All in all, a pretty solid Kroger. read more

This is our go-to grocery store. Absolutely love the selection that this store offers. Produce is always fresh and everything on our grocery list is available here. Another plus is their Kroger rewards card that you can sign up for that is free. You accumulate points that can in turn give you discounted gas. Another pro of being a member is that coupons are sent to you that are tailored to your shopping, for example I receive coupons for bottled water and deli meat, which are constant items on our grocery list. Also, Kroger has an app that offers you coupons along with being able to create a grocery list at your fingertips. You can even create a shopping cart and cash out on the app as well. This location is by far my favorite. If you're in the area definitely stop by for your needs. read more

The disrespect at the flower department in Kroger was horrible. First, the workers there are very racist... they DO NOT know how to work under pressure what so ever. I was picking up flowers for a customer and I waited in my car for a while because it was too packed inside. I went back in just to see if the customer order was ready. When I asked if the order was ready the worker respond with an attitude. Which completely threw me off guard and one thing about me I don't let people disrespect me. I'm at USMC veteran and I know all about the work place and respecting others. Overall, the workers were clearly overwhelmed and they were taking it out on the dash and Uber delivery people and on top of that. There was a young lady(dasher) waiting patiently with her baby and when she asked about her order, the worker had an attitude. I will be taking this matter corporate. read more

I was in this area and needed some things so I decided to go to this particular Kroger. I'm glad I did. It was a very easy parking lot to go through. There were plenty of parking spaces. Immediately an employee saw me coming and offered me a shopping cart. The layout is pretty much the same as any Kroger Marketplace. As I walked in, I see the produce section and it's a very good size. They have a fresh flower section to the right, a deli section, a sushi section and a hot food section. The aisles are marked nicely so you can pretty much find (at least) the area of whatever you're trying to find. When I was ready to check out, I saw that they had almost every register open. The store was clean. Their bathroom was clean and very convenient being next to the entrance. I'm a fan of this particular location. Truth is, I probably won't come here often since it's far from home. read more

Was here on Tuesday with my Wife, and we did some shopping. She saw the Beef Stew package in the Meat Department, and decided to get one for Dinner on Wednesday. I come home from work on Wednesday, and the Dinner smells good so far. She then tells me that a lot of the Meat had a lot of Grisell and Fat under the Meat that looked good. When Dinner was ready, we sit down to eat, and there was a lot of Meat that was not Edible! We ended up not Eating a Majority of it because of this! Just a little of the Meat we ate that was actually very Good! Will not be Buying my Meat from here ever Again! Will pay more someplace else that knows how to Package and sell Meat without a lot of Grisell and Fat in it like Wegmans where I should have known to get the Beef Stew Meat from! This WAS my favorite Kroger. It's only 2.5 miles from my home, is quite large and has nice wide aisles. It has the same prices as other Krogers, which combined with sales are really good. A couple of months ago I shopped with the ad in my hand and picked out some wine as I left. It was clearly shown in the ad complete with picture. The cashier argued when the price rang incorrectly stating "select varieties". However, the Chardonnay bottle was in the picture. I went to the customer service center and the lady said the same, until I showed her the ad. The manager she called said whatever rings up! But this lady knew I was right and made the correction. It was a hassle for a few bucks and since then I have had that happen a couple times but it was only change so I didn't argue. This week I went in to take advantage of their sale on tide. It was a great deal coupled with your digital coupon. Needless to say my digital coupon did not come off.I realized food would spoil if I went to the service desk to complain about my Tide coupon. Then when I got home I found that the bagger had put canned foods with my avocados!! Last night as I went to make guacamole my avocados were bruised. I sort my food as I place them on the belt from my basket ( canned items, boxed item, frozen and refrigerated, produce, etc.)but she had put cold items with warm, defeating my attempt to keep cold foods colder by being bagged together- even food lion knows this is a good idea. My ice cream was quite soft. Yesterday I returned to pick up a few things for unexpected company and decided to get organic bananas. They were only 10c more a pound. Today for breakfast peeling these nice yellow bananas the inside is bruised and mushy! I am really upset with these past trips! I don't know if I'll return. read more

Homestead creamery's fresh milk brings all the boys to the yard, And they're like, Its better than yours, Damn right its better than yours, I can show you, but they sure do charge.. But seriously.. fresh milk from homestead creamery is what brings us to Kroger. They are packaged in glass bottles which you pay $3 I believe in addition to the cost of the milk. However, you get the $3 back in cash when you return the bottle. Another reason I like Kroger is their natural/organic selections. I have a lot of food sensitivities and a food allergy and they tend to carry a decent amount of food items I can consume if I'm being strict and sticking to my dietary restrictions. I love Kroger. I love living close by. They provide a large variety of fresh produce, ready made food as well as groceries and household needs. I can also get my sons diapers, wipes and even clothing here. Staff is always friendly and they always have great specials. Becoming a rewards member earns you fuel points toward every dollar spent. I have gotten 10 cents plus off of each gallon of gas before. Great reward system! read more

This Kroger is typically in our grocery store rotation on our weekly Sunday afternoon visits. Like other Kroger Marketplaces, I feel like this one is cleaner and more adequately staffed than your traditional/smaller Kroger locations. I think one of the reasons why we love this Kroger is that they normally have free sushi samples in the later part of the afternoon/early evening; it's usually some guy singing, very loudly, saying they have sushi samples which is quite comical. Their produce is generally stocked well and has everything we need on our grocery list. I think the bigger size store makes us want to come here more because they have a larger selection of dry goods and just makes it a more fun shopping experience. Nicely organized and clean store which holds to grocery store expectations. Small mishap when I had to leave to retrieve my card because they do not accept any type of Apple Pay. I was able to leave my cart at the front, but for food safety the employee mentioned taking care of my cold items. Asked up front about my items upon my return (about 15 minutes) & no one had a clue about them. What I did not know is that it meant my items would be put back into the store & me having to basically do my shopping again. Thankfully they had what I wanted in stock still, but I could see how this could easily turn sour. 3.5 rounded down based on this experience. read more

This is one of my favorite places to go for groceries and other things. I've been here quite a few times. Although this place is not on any of my normal travels, I make it a point to come here. To start, this place is huge. The store really lives up to its name when you're in there, because it really has the look and feel of a marketplace in there. They even have a Starbucks coffee location inside the store. This store has a bit of everything. For food items, they have a whole international foods section. I've seen stuff on the shelves here that I have never seen at any other place. There's many options and brands to choose from; some brands (other than store brand of course) I've only seen here. I've frequented the fresh vegetables and fruits area. This is where I can find a lot of items I can complement a salad for lunch. The options are endless. In that same area, there is also an olive bar, where you can see many different kinds of them. On the end, they also have small cups that you can use to sample the different items in the olive bar. There is a brief description of where it came from and its history. I've never seen any supermarket do something like that. I have also been to the sandwich bar area and have had one of their chicken sandwiches. The sandwich was very good, and would definitely have it again when I'm looking for something quick to eat. With the significant variety of products available here, I thought that prices would be higher here, but it really isn't. Prices are on par with other supermarkets, including Walmart. Although it is a bit more of a trip for me to come here, I will be coming here much more often than Walmart. The staff is much better here. They are willing to help you with anything you need and they always have a smile on their face. I've never had a bad experience here. Overall, there is less hassle for parking and the overall experience when compared to Walmart. I highly recommend coming here for your everyday needs. Plus, you can earn fuel points with every purchase you make. I feel like they genuinely care about their customers. This is my go-to store. This is our go to grocery store here in virginia beach. If anyone knows what a Publix is, this is the closest grocery store that I have ever found to it in the "north". The staff is always helpful and polite. The produce section NEVER disappoints us. They have the best butcher selection. My personal favorite is the bone in ribeye.. They have tons of check out lanes that they keep open and at night they keep the self-service lanes open, and btw... they're open late! Yay for everyone who works nights!! read more

I hate writing negative review but this is a must. My mother had a negative experience with Paula in customer service today. She needed to return some items. Two were being returned with a receipt and three without. They were all the same item. Paula stated my mom needed to have a Kroger app to return the three items without the receipt. My mother, who is an valued customer, was upset and left the store without returning her items. When she came home, she shared with me that she was told she needed an app. As an older person, apps are not something she is comfortable with. She shouldn't have to and on Kroger's website it states that items can be returned, without a receipt, for a store credit. I went to the store with my mother with the printed store policy. After asking for the manager, the returns were made. My problem is threefold. Stating that an app is required is bad business and it is creating barriers for customers (especially those who are uncomfortable with such technology). Secondly, if I had not been there my mother (who purchases items from the store all the time) would have been a dissatisfied customer. It also stings to know that if I had not been there this might not have been rectified. I hope the store reviews their policies for dealing with customers. Two side notes- I downloaded the app on my phone but there was an issue with it. Secondly, Paula did state that her manager told her not to accept returns from customers without receipt or store app. I'll reiterate again, this is not the policy on Kroger's website. read more

This location is 5 minutes away so my family and I shop here frequently. I love how they cater to kids with free fruit and balloons. My son always asks for a balloon. The bakery department is great. I have purchased many cakes here. Their Friday and Saturday digital coupon deals are a huge help! I just wish they restocked the shelves once those items ran low. At 8:30 in the evening I shouldn't stand in one of the 3 checkout lines that are each 10 customers deep. The prices are getting higher each time I go in. The sale items are in back so if you are lucky enough to find an honest associate, they will bring an item up front for you. This is the worst store that I have shopped in Virginia Beach, VA. Following up on this review, I will writing corporaqte and I will discourage everyone from shopping here because not only were the men rude and disrespectful but the woman with curly hair lightskin and she was unapologetically worse than the men who sexualized the customers in the store. I went to the woman manager and she basically laughed in my face. I told her this was no laughing mattere that she needed to address her staff, she asked what happened, I told her, I am walking behind him looking at the other woman's behind and he groped himself while walking towards her when he realized I was behind him, I looked at the woman and said, watch your surroundings, I looked at him and said your nasty. (please check the cameras in this store) after my disgust, I tried to shop and then I heard another salesperson arguing with a customer about checking to see if something was in stock, I honestly thought I was on a bad episode of, "Store Failures and Problems", I left my cart walked out in disgust and vowed to never shop their again. I will be writing the general manager and their superiors. Whatever complaints this store has received, I belikeve them ALL. First time at a Kroger's marketplace. This place has a bunch of items that you can buy. It is a very convenient grocery store. There was multiple items in stock and food that was available. We came in here to get some food to eat. Pro: clean and neat, organized, multiple self check out lines, various items for sale Cons: I would have given this place a 5 star, however the cashier was pretty annoyed that we didn't go to the self check out line. I really should be a "Commissary" kind of girl but I really love, and prefer this Kroger. It's newer and has my favorite: Starbucks! It's your typical grocery with everything you would typically see and expect in a grocery store but everyone has their preference and this is mine. I find that the workers are always so nice and friendly, always saying "hello" and offering to help. They have everything, well, MOSTLY everything I need. Only a few things I've noticed they don't carry great selections of but for the most part, they have what I need. Even jewelry! And clothes! My favorite department is their deli. Their selection is probably the best I've seen in my immediate area grocer-wise. It's always bright, clean, and fully stocked, except during major cooking holidays where you're bound to see emptiness and gaps in common shopping aisles and on shelves. Sign up for their Kroger reward card and you can earn money to save you on gas! I've been able to save a dollar/gal at the pump once! That was like winning the lotto when gas up to $4/gal a few years back! One thing that I wish this Kroger had is a wine bar. I'd totally have me & my girlfriends enjoying a "GNO" at Kroger! The worst Kroger I've ever visited. Their gas pumps were down a few years ago and I went inside asking for a manager just trying to find out the situation because the attendant wasn't at the window. I told him, "I've been anticipating using my points that are going to expire. It's almost a full dollar. I need to use them today and I need gas. Can you tell me when they'll be back up because I can wait?" The Managers reply was "If you don't like that the pumps are down there's another gas station across the street". Literally word-for-word. I called the store to tell them how rude and unprofessional they were compared to their service standards. Spoke to someone higher up and they came back on the line with, "I talked to the person you described. He remembered you and the incident but said that's not how it went. I know my employee, I know they would never say anything like that to a customer and I stand by what they told me." So, in a nutshell, they called me a liar. Said I made up the story. I called their corporate office to tell them I didn't spend $800+ a month there to be called a liar. Nobody ever followed-up with me. Since that day, I haven't spent a dime in this store. read more
