I shop Walmart's online store because items in store are not available. The delivery driver had trouble finding my home. He called me and when I told him how to get to me, he said "I don't speak English". This is a HUGE problem because the sign to my home are written in English and if I can't verbally communicate to him in English, then what's the next alternative? I told him to stay there and I would go find him. I think he understood me. I had to drive my car out to find him in order to get my package. Now I'm hesitating on whether to order again from Walmart because online will not allow me to go to the store to pick it up and instead it will be locally delivered. Please do better Walmart. If you cannot find drivers that speak English, then allow me to pick up the item in store. read more

Not a fan of this location in general. Seems to have higher prices than other Walmarts and less availability. The only real positive is the extremely friendly extremely tall man that mainly works in the Garden Center. He's a joy. Other than that, I'd recommend a different Walmart. read more

I popped in on a weeknight around 5- and let me tell you-- this Wal Mart was a happening place! It has a pharmacy, auto shop, vision center, photo center, garden center and a pretty standard grocery store. Pretty standard. I was able to locate my items via the app so I went aisle to aisle knowing my goods were in stock. The self checkout aisle was well staffed and had plenty of machines. As I walked out the greeter said she loved my outfit. (Which made me smile more than normal as I had stopped in to get candy for a 90s candy bar and therefore was in full 90s garb-- from biker shorts with a yellow flannel tied around the waist with matching Doc Martens. To a Britney tee with coordinating choker and butterfly clips.) My biggest knocks were: the lack of signage (as an out of towner it was hard to locate from the street) and the parking lot was a hot mess. read more

This is becoming my go to location more and more. I live closer to the Windsor Heights store, but it's been going downhill quickly. After the revamp of the floor and shelving I was hoping the Windsor Heights location was going to be better. Nope. The West Des Moines location is consistently clean, well organized, and well stocked. It definitely makes the few more mile drive worth it. I ordered a carton of buttermilk on February 3, 2025. I also ordered other items as well. They forgot two packs of my cream cheese. I didn't notice it until I was making the recipe and I didn't have it. I called the store. They put the money back on my card and gave me $5 dollars off on my next purchase. But when I looked at the buttermilk the next day the expiration date says February 12 1928. Unbelievable. The workers want tips. But most of the time they forget most of your food. Then when they do bring it they won't help take it to your apartment. They will dump your groceries anywhere like trash. Sometimes you will find bugs in your food or spoiled meat. Walmart needs to get it together. I thought switching to another Walmart would be different. But it's the same. Different area. I give them 1 star read more

Very disappointed. We don't live in the immediate vicinity, so we have to travel some to get there. When we do shop there, there seems to be a shortage on some products...not pertaining to COVID as this is in 2023. There also seems to be a personnel shortage, as only one manned cash register was open. The self-checkouts were backed up with people ready to check out. We were puzzled that ALL of the checkouts with the conveyor belts were closed. And this is early afternoon: after the "noon" shoppers and well before the "after work" shoppers. Had an online order to pick up as soon as I got into a spot I put the spot number in and then I waited and waited for about 25 mins. I then called the number in the sign 3 times first 2 times I get sent to voicemail 3rd time someone picked up and was told that my order would be right out. Then I proceeded to wait another 20 mins. And I FINALLY got my order. The guy was very nice but not apologize for my wait or anything. Not once did someone check if someone came and talked to me or anything. Credit card machines won't accept cards with chips. Credit card readers DESTROY chips! I even got a new card and this Walmart card machines can't read them. I went to multiple machines with a new card. Employees said the wished these were destroyed to get new ones that work. read more

Priced very competitively. You're wallet will thank you lol. This one in west Des Moines is one of the cleaner ones. If you're looking for customer service this is definitely not the place to go. Idk if it's the train for what they are paying, but the employees, if you can find one, just don't seem to be informed on anything. Not only is this our "go to" Wal-Mart if we need anything, but since they've implemented the pick-up this is often a "go to" for most everything! First, the store is clean, properly staffed and well organized on the inside. Their carts are fairly new and don't squeak or have issues. We now avoid the Subway inside, however. The brilliant thing with the pick-up is you can shop from the convenience of your home, ensuring your list is followed and little impulse buying occurs. You set a time for picking up the order and then you alert them when you're on your way and a personal shopper does your shopping for you. We've had this amazing guy named Eric who has been exceptionally friendly and clearly loves his job. He takes pride in his work, speaks clearly to the customers and is always prompt! He also chooses great produce! When we arrive at the special pick-up area they bring it out and help load it into the car. It's pretty amazing and very smooth! The store in general is great, but when you have a small child or a full schedule, you can't beat the convenience of picking up your order. read more

I went in to get a couple of Car Chargers for myself and my wife. I get that inventory management is nightmare and things had to be put in secured Cases. I also know it can be busy at times but what experienced was unacceptable, first I was in the aisle and first a lady was being helped with a similar item for her phone I patiently waited as the employee helped and after he was done did not even acknowledge me just walked back to the register area of electronics. I then went over to get him to help me with getting what I need out of the case and he was working on something so I patiently waited until he looked at me. I asked him if he could help me with getting what I needed he let out a frustrated sigh and threw his pen down and snapped at me "what are you needing?!!" I told him he snatched 2 chargers out and handed them to me I looked at the charger's and realized I need usb not C class. I then asked if he could get the proper ones I needed and he then snapped at me again which ones I told and he slammed the ones I needed and walked away. After paying for my chargers I went to the services desk and the was a line and after 10 minutes had passed there was no movement due to 1 customer being there the whole time. I went home and tried calling the store to talk to a Manager about this employee's behavior and all it did was ring. Now has Walmart gotten so bad they do not care about how their customers are treated by their employees and not only an employee but the one in electronics department was Team Lead if I could give a Zero stars I would my worst experience ever at Walmart and this one is supposed to be the upscale of them all in the Des Moines area. I consider this to be one of Dante's circles of Hell. No one has any care about anyone else shopping, run into them, stand in the middle of the aisles, scream at their kids. That being said, it's super clean and organized. In grocery you can get really good assistance if needed. Also can get great help in electronics. The rest of the store: good luck. The parking lot is a nightmare. People just don't care. Double-parking in the fire lane, parking at angles in multiple spots. Somehow on Black Friday it's sane. Everyone is friendly. The staff is cheery. I'm here only because of a broken phone replacement. It's ok today but I'll try to make it another few years until I return. read more

Awful experience from the beginning. I called during Black Friday deals to get a set of 4 tires installed. The woman helping me was amazing & helped me get the tires set aside. I went into my appointment & dropped off my car. About 10 minutes later, i received a call that my tires were the incorrect size & that i'd need to order correctly when I came to pickup then reschedule. I had no issue considering I wasn't aware of the correct size that I needed. HOWEVER. I come in & first of all, the workers are all over the place with understanding how to set up the appointment with the tires being purchased online. Secondly, a worker said they found the correct size of the tires & they were in the shop the entire time! My car was there from 11am-5pm with NO INSTALL. I was not given any discount & they could have tried to accommodate me. I rescheduled the appointment & paid for the tires to ensure I got the deal. I saved my reciept in my wallet but forgot that I put it there. I came for my rescheduled appointment & at first I couldn't find my reciept & didn't think it was a huge deal because the woman on the phone told me she saw the pre-pay the week before when I called. The man was confused on how to find my appointment that showed payment & asked who I talked to. I said I talked to you. & he was completely lost. He goes out to my car with my keys & is trying to unlock & open the INCORRECT CAR! My friend waiting for me tried to tell him but he laughed it off & climbed THROUGH MY PASSENGER SEAT. I was then told the total for my install was $120 additional. I paid & left. I realized that was high for being $17-$23 per tire. I called & was told there was an additional warrenty at $14 per tire I WAS NOT ASKED IF I WANTED AND DID NOT WANT. I went in to pickup the car & explained to the same man as before, that the lady I spoke with made a note that I was over charged for the install because of the warrenty I didn't want. He laughed the whole time saying " she made a note then did she. " & laughed that I didn't want something he scammed me into having. Hopefully my tires don't fall off since they're so awful. This Walmart looks very nice and modern from the outside! The inside is actually very spacious and not cramped like most other Walmarts. There's not too much I can say about Walmart, it is WalMart, one of the best innovations in American history. They have nearly everything you need to buy, including groceries. We are big Walmart fans, navigation was a little funny on entering the parking lot. Kept telling us it was some where else. Finally listening to our instincts we found the parking lot. Then people were going the wrong way! A little hard to pull out of the store as well. So please be careful and look both ways! So clearance was depressing and not at all organized. But we walked around the store, just saw the same things at another store. So we weren't really impress. The machine shorten us on two dollars so took about five minutes waiting for someone to open it up. Then the machine started beeping really loudly! So they had to call someone to come turn it off! You would not believe the looks we got! We are from the south, and every time I went to the store in my hometown, Everyone would be a loud talker and loved getting in peoples way. You would not believe the looks we got around the store. I'm guessing no one was use to people being loud and laughing a lot (I'm sorry my husband can be very funny). Overall thumbs up Walmart! **Update** now 20 min wait. I also was in lane 4 with Amgad, a little too much talky and not enough worky. He nearly forgot my last bag until I asked him about it. Very little check out help. Over half of the check out lanes are open right now. It is Friday at 5pm, a peak time for this store and I have been waiting nearly 15 min in checkout(regardless of what lane I am in). You would think for Halloween/preholiday season this place would have more check out help?!? Also the battery section in cameras/electronics is a warzone. No stock whatsoever, going to Walgreens to get my specialty watch battery I need for my bathroom scale. I had a horrible experience yesterday at the tire shop. I went in to buy 1 tire and have 3 additional tires moved from one set of runs to the other. When leaving I noticed that one of my tires had cuts in the side from removing it from the rim. I went back in to show this to an employee who called a manager out, while we were waiting the guy who had worked on my tire came out and said " yea it was like that when I worked on it, I cleaned it off so you knew it wasn't safe and you needed to replace it" so why did you change it over to the new rim, then charge me for it and let me leave the store to go home and place on my sons truck? They then claim that there is now way they could have damaged the tire. I guess you get what you pay for. Stay away from this place. read more

I waited an hour for someone to help me in the automotive area then when someone finally did they sold me the wrong battery then I had to wait 3x for a manager to approve the return and for him to type in the right password for his own system. This is not a review so much of the store but a review of the Online Ordering system, that this store does. You can order groceries on line and pay with credit card, and your groceries will be delivered to your car by a Wal-Mart rep. The process is super easy and as a new parent making the sometimes stressful shopping situation a much easier experience. The staff is super nice and pick the freshest produce they can, stuff that has not ever seen the floor! So thats cool. If they don't have something they substitute it with an equally priced substitute. You can turn that option off too. It works really well, and makes life easier, I hope other grocery stores follow suite with this option.. read more

Arrived and could barely drive through the parking lot as the shopping cart racks were over flowing with shopping carts. Went inside not one cart inside the store available and the up front attendant said that it was raining out which is why they couldn't retrieve carts but yet people are inside the store shopping during the light drizzle but it was too much for the Walmart employees to go out in the rain. Also I had a return and they said customer service was closed and their system was down and that I would need to come back another day but yet if I wanted to purchase something their registers worked which doesn't seem to add up? The three employees I spoke to didn't seem to care to help and barely understood English and I had to repeat myself multiple times. Last time I shop at this joke of a store unless I want to people watch, see them on their phones, move at a snails pace to do anything and are the least accommodating or friendly workforce I've ever seen. This is by far the worst Walmart I have ever been in... it's dirty, dark, dreary, and just overall a terrible shopping experience. The parking lot is terribly lit and the store is dingy and not organized well, especially the home decor area. As a store in a nice city and a nice neighborhood, this store should be SIGNIFICANTLY better than it is. I've seen nicer, cleaner/less dingy Walmarts in low income neighborhoods in Chicago and Milwaukee! I have no idea how the other reviewers actually think this is a decent Walmart. It's awful. All of the merchandise in this store just looks sad. When I walk into the Target down the street it is bright and welcoming... when I walk into this Walmart, I feel like I am walking into an unorganized mess. This is pretty nice Super Walmart and great location off I-35 and across Jordan Creek Mall. Nice layout and you are better off parking near Garden area rather than the busy Grocery entrance. Selection of grocery and common items is pretty good. I have found fruits and vegetables to be priced competitively so usually get it here rather than HY-VEE. Other items like milk and yogurt are also priced right. Avoid coupons and week specials at HY-VEE and shop here. read more

We were quoted 2 hours to fix a valve stem on one tire- something that usually takes about 45 minutes to repair, and have now been waiting almost 5 hours before the car was even looked at. When we got here there was only one car in the garage and 3 in the parking lot. We thought the two hours was to wait for customers before us. Don't shop here if you're black. I was at the store yesterday (December 20,2021 around noon-1pm) I got followed around by security the entire time I was shopping. Also, a woman at the register near the cosmetic section tried to demand that I put the facial moisturizer and night cream that was in my cart in a security box. Why would she say that to me and not anyone else buying similar items? I gave no suspicion or indication that I would steal anything. I did not have any large bags or purses or even a diaper bag with me. I did not have our coats (we just had fleece jackets on) that could possibly conceal anything. When I finally got to the register, the security guy walked up to my cart and looked to make sure I paid for everything. I was so humiliated. I was singled out for no reason. I will never shop at this Walmart (probably no Walmart anywhere) ever again. I had my son with me and it makes me so sad that he will probably go through something similar in the future. The worst part is, I tried to call the store today and kept getting hung up on. Be advised Walmart management; Whoever is supposed to be answering phones around 10:30 am on Tuesday December 21, 2021 is just hanging up on people. I'm disgusted. Parking lot seems nice, white picket fences as decor. I was in need of swimming attire for my family. I picked a top I liked but wanted to use the changing rooms prior to purchase. We waited for several minutes before my fiancé's went to the checkouts to find an associate. No one showed up 5 mins later. I was turning to leave and saw an employee putting away clothes. As far as Walmart goes this store is quite nice. It is very clean and the service is good as well. Compared to others it is by far a superior wallmart. It also seems much less crowded. There is also an automotive section that is larger than others. Prices are normal Walmart prices. There is a subway inside as well a game center for kids to hang around at. read more
