After my eye exam, Dr Troy Johnson wrote an identical prescription for both eyes--(minus 3.00)…read more even though one eye has 20/25 vision and other eye has 20/200 vision ---according to his own records. He stubbornly refuses to issue a corrected prescription even though it would cost him nothing to rewrite it. Simply doesn't want to acknowledge a transcription error. Says I need to come back to his office first. I use a walker now due to an injury-- and also have to hire transportation to go anywhere. He already has my correct vision readings in his file as well as his erroneous prescription which obviously doesn't match the vision acuities. No reputable optometrist would write a glasses prescription that does not match his patient's vision readings, but he did, and refuses to issue a correction. He obviously will not correct a mistake--- thinking it would somehow damage his "reputation" to admit a simple mistake. But he has damaged his own reputation by being dishonest about his own mistake. Pride is not usually damaged by admitting a mistake, but conversely by refusing to make the needed correction.

I was due for an eye exam and was having an issue with swelling/crusting at night in my left eye…read more So I called the office. They were able to get me in that day (due to a cancellation). Having cut my eye at 17 and having been traumatized by the ER doctor who treated me - even putting drops in my own eyes has been a challenge. I've not been able to allow anyone else to do it since that time. Because of my skittishness, I've never been able to do the glaucoma exam, either... And it's been more than a few decades now... Dr. Beth Westell (West Frankfort location) not only was able to put drops in my eyes, but was able to do the glaucoma exam! She saw a defect in my cornea and treated me and had me come back, but felt I should see the ophthalmologist, as the situation had not improved (it also had no worsened). She referred me to Dr. George Ortiz (Marion location). I was nervous about my appointment, still feeling quite skittish and not knowing what would be done to exam my eye. Dr. Ortiz was also able to get drops in my eyes. (I was pleasantly surprised!) He did an exam - might have been another glaucoma test - it seemed like the same equipment, and though still skittish, the exam was a success. He diagnosed the issue and took the time to make sure I understood the issue I was having. That said, he is treating me for corneal basement dystrophy w/ corneal erosion. I'm thrilled to report that my eye is improving. I also would like to give Keri (West Frankfort) 5 stars. She always helps me pick out my frames. She's patient, honest, and is always a delight. The receptionist (whose name, I regret I do not have) is also a charming gal - 5 stars for her, too! I've only one issue, but it turned out okay. I was told that they'd be ready in about 2 weeks. I was called a week later and the lens in over my "bad" eye wasn't right - come to find out, it was not correctly done, so Keri examined them and confirmed it wasn't just me. She was very apologetic - though it was through no fault of hers. So, we sent them back to be fixed. They came back a week later and are perfect! So, though they weren't right originally, I still had my glasses in that 2 week time period in which I had been told I'd have my glasses. It all worked out in the end - plus I got an extra visit with Keri when I came back to pick them up.

The location is clean and the selection is pretty good for a more intermediate-size hardware store. It's also mostly consistent with the idea of shopping locally. Ace Hardware stores are operated as cooperative not a franchise, as such each local store has lots of control over design and profits. This location seems to always have some sort of philanthropy effort going on.

They're a great resource, and I'm thankful they're here for us. They keep on top of stocking, so empty bins are rare. Downside is they're expensive relative to larger, home-improvement type stores, but you can't beat the convenience. The liberal hours are a big plus, something rare in our small town. Floor staff is friendly and helpful... but the checkout clerks? I find friendlier, more personable clerks at the DMV. Clearly, they're trained to be cold fish, absolutely not deviate from the annoying script about the rewards card, and refuse to recognize regular, frequent customers. Seems a little odd (to me) because I rarely need the guys on the floor - I know the store nearly as well as they do - so the only contact is usually with checkout. Heckuva way to treat your profit.
