For the past four years we've been enjoying long seasons (mid-May to mid-November) of high quality, fresh vegetables, and trying out many varieties of salad greens, potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant, squash, cole crops and radishes. The small share is more than enough for two adults. John and Thera are community-minded, always welcoming, sharing their knowledge and inviting members to participate. Somehow they manage to find time send out periodic newsletters to update us on recent improvements on the farm, the impact of the weather on various crops, and about the new baby goats. We're looking forward to the new season!

I got two nice, plump pastured chickens here. The first cooked very evenly and yielded a terrific broth. The chickens are well cleaned. Bags left inside the cavity with livers, etc. I also picked up a very nice pork shoulder, the first half of which roasted exquisitely. In the land of machine-made Purdue chickens, disgusting sprawl and tasteless cuisine, it's a real lifesaver that someone nearby raises animals that actually taste like something. Slow Food members (http://www.slowfoodphilly.org) and their families watched sheep shearing, fiber demonstrations, and enjoyed pastries provided by Talula's Table. The weather was brisk, but children still had fun feeding animals while the rest of us sampled Barbara's black bean lamb chili (topped with cilantro and chopped onions, perfect placed atop a slice of bread), and the farm's sheep cheeses. Meadowset Farm produces honey (my friend bought a jar for $5) and grass-fed lamb. I was tempted to take home some meat, but neglected to bring along an icebox. Next time! Many thanks to Slow Food and Meadowset Farm for a relaxing Saturday morning. [1] A few cats played host, too: a farm cat greeted us while we toured their beautiful grounds, following us to the rooster coop, meowing all the while.

We were welcomed very nicely by two lovely young women who then showed us a bit around the stables. My son loved looking at the animals, sampling cheese and petting the sheep and chickens. I got some wonderfully tasty fresh eggs, delicious pecorino style cheese, very nice honey, lamb ribs, lamb chops, ground lamb...i love lamb and it s nice to get it straight from the farm where one sees how it s cared for etc. I also bought some wool yarn...from their sheep. cant wait to make my little 1 1/2 year old something fun. I cant wait to go back!
