I was faced with having to remove and replace it or fix it. Because it is cast iron, removal would have necessitated thousands on repairs and renovations, fixing it was our preference. The problem was finding a qualified guy knowledgeable about jetted tubs, particularly dated ones like ours. This proved to be a daunting exercise. I lost count of emails and texts to retail stores and spa installers. I then wised up and contacted the main customer service number for Kohler and asked if they had any certified technicians in my local area. They said they have 2 and I followed up with Rob because, frankly, he reached out to me first. AND I'M GLAD I DID. He is super knowledgeable about these things and has a ton of experience and has seen it all. After I described the problem area, he asked me to send a pic of it. It was impressive that he was able to identify exactly what the part in question was, what its function was and then pinpoint the most probable cause of the malfunction. And then, refreshingly, he very clearly detailed what his charge would be for coming out and do the repair (so no surprises). We are quite a distance from him and so he added that there would be an additional charge for the travel time and gas. All in, his charge for the work done and additional travel was very reasonable. On top of that, he showed up on time and got right to work - and after a couple of tests he fixed the cause of the leaky part (and verified the repair by filling the tub). But I did reach out to Rob via email, the owner and proprietor of Classic Baths, about repairing a steam unit in my house (entire transcript below for reference). He wanted $240 just to come to my house and look at my the unit, which seemed a bit steep. Fearing that it might be a difficult repair due to location, costing me even more money, I sent him pictures of the unit to help him out. After he looked at the photos, he told me that the original installer of my unit "should be shot," and then said, "No wonder you wanted a free estimate...you deserve your contractor." He then accused me of trying to pull one over on him. His words: "You knew this was going to be a problem and didn't mention it when you wanted a free estimate. You knew there was very high likelihood that this was going to be a problem but chose not to say anything until you knew you were getting charged. You deserve your contractor. "BTW, telling you your contractor should be shot was for free." This is the kind of condescending treatment that my wife and I have grown to expect here in Westchester. We're a middle class family with a one and five year old in daycare, and sizable bills: we can't afford to throw money around. 30 years or 30 days in the business, you just shouldn't treat people with kind of disrespect. Rather than trying to sell me an entirely new roof, Sal proposed a repair solution that only someone with decades of experience would have identified. It was practical, cost-effective, and exactly what the situation required. As someone who owns multiple properties and routinely manages construction and renovation projects, I have a solid understanding of what constitutes fair pricing. Sal's proposal was more than reasonable. I told him he could get to work immediately and we sealed the deal with a handshake. Over the next six hours, his crew reframed a section of the roof, eliminated a problematic gutter configuration, tied the new construction seamlessly into the existing roof, installed the necessary copper flashing, waterproofed the entire area, and completed the shingle installation. I mean I sent a photos with a few narrow holes that were there, and in the area that the nails were in and the method that was used to repair the holes if you're looking for something more for If you're looking for something more formal on letterhead, I could write a report on on the letterhead with the photos and be specific about exactly what method was used and everything to repair the holes but there's a $450 charge for that"
