PLEASE READ!! Took my car in because the check engine light was on. He told me I needed new spark plugs and that it would take a few days. Eventually I came back later and he charged me north of $600. Then he also told me that the latch on my hood was broken and returned the car with my hood completely beat up. Like dented all over the place. And told me he couldn't replace it and that it was my fault. The latch was fine. I'm sure he just forgot to close it all the way when he was moving the car and tried to move the expense on me. After a lot of pushback he replaced the hood free of charge but it was a nightmare. All the fixes he "made" did nothing. The check engine light came back on and eventually we took it to the dealer and they said I needed carbon cleaning for the engine which solved the problem. I have a 2014 BMW X5. The check engine light came on so I took it to the dealership. When they called me with a $6,000(!!!) estimate, I went to pick it up immediately and started doing research on independent import garages in the area. Walter came highly recommended so I scheduled a service with him. Walter got the job done for $1,800. Much better than the 6K the dealer was quoting me. Walter was professional and courteous. Please read this review before thinking of going to Walter's. I have a 2009 VW CC Sports with 2L Turbo engine. The check engine light was on, and I took the car to Walter's for repair. I was charged for $190 to diagnose the issues with the car. I was given a bill for the amount of $2000 and I was more than glad to pay for it to have him fix the car. He claimed that the car would be fixed completely with no further issues after this repair. The issue with the car was that the engine would shut off after warming up. It took almost a couple of months to get this issue fixed and when I picked the car the check engine light was off. But it happened again! The car died on me 10 minutes after picking the car from Walter's. Took the car back to him and first he declined my claim, but after running the car himself he figured the problem and ensured me to fix it. After a long time, I received a call from his shop that the car is ready to pick. I was again charged for almost $1000 (so far $3000) without notifying me before fixing the car. He acknowledged that he was supposed to inform me beforehand and reimbursed me for the price of a part that he'd fixed (I think $300). THE CAR BROKE AGAIN. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS BACK ON AGAIN. Ahhh Walter ! My family of 7 at the time were taking our maiden voyage in our 84' westy vanagon from Alexandria ohio to Bozeman Montana and all points in between. Just north of Indy , everything went dead. We searched for a place to work on our quirky vw and got a tow by 20 other shops to Walters . Knew we had done well when we pulled up to the 300 car lot of old vws and oddball imports. They pushed aside audis and such to get us right in. Took most of the day but fixed our old girl and got us back on the road. Walter had one of his guys give my wife and kids a ride to the zoo and picked them up when they were done. Whhaaat? Who does that? Van ran flawlessly on the 7,500 mile road trip. The problem was a severed power wire running to the coil which they reran and changed my air box which is impossible to find. I gave Walter my 1996 Passat TDI around Labor Day. I got it back at the end of January. After a week, I realized I didn't have the wind deflector on the driver's side anymore. Also, the check engine light blinks on and off. It looses power at 2000 to 2500 rpm and doesn't accelerate on inclines anymore. Just before he gave me my car back, he replaced the glow plugs and the glow harness. It didn't need them. He padded his bill and took things away from me and now, I don't think the computer works. Walter is a crook. Went in to fix my Audi transmission, thousands of dollars later, it's still not fixed, and not even 3 months later, it went out completely, and then they didn't stand behind their work and would not work with me at all so I had to total the car because I could not afford an Audi transmission. Real class act. I suggest to take your car to a CLEAN and PROFESSIONAL garage who will stand behind their work. This is a dirty, scummy mom and pop garage with crooks working there. sweet place!!! had tons of fun looking around at some classic cars, they sold me a car that they redid the engine too and it runs great. good customer service, my only problem was the amount of time that it took them to finish it up. i had to call them nearly every day to check in and see how far they were. they also sell spare parts to nearly every foreign car!!!!! when my brother and i were buying my car, he was looking around finding some things that he was considering for his vw beetle. I haven't lived in Lafayette for 30 years I remembered hearing good things about Walter's shop back in the day. While on a recent (2012) Thanksgiving trip to Lafayette My BMW 325i needed a water pump replaced. Not only did Walter get me in, he was friendly and helpful. Walter gave me an estimate and did not exceed the amount he stated. Parts installed were excellent OEM parts. My car was finished on time, (it was also a Saturday) very important since I needed to return to Wisconsin for work. Can't say enough!!! Highly recommended! read more

If you have a German car, this is the place to go. Walter is very skilled and thorough. If there is a tricky problem others can't figure out, he will. He may work a little slow on the harder issues, but it's only because he gets to the root of the problem and does not skimp on anything. if i could i would give walters a 0 star. we took our 2005 jaguar to walters to check on battery light on dash. we told him we needed fixed because we where taking it to our son in kanas city in 10 days. 1 month later still not fixed. put new alternator not from jaguar did not fix problem ordered new one from jaguar called us it was fixed. $1200 dollars later when we picked up the light was still on. he said we needed to take to tom wood jaguar in indianapolis becaus he couldn't fix it.we took jaguar to tom wood jaguar and the problem was not alternator it was wiring from battery in trunk to computer in engine area in front of car. cost at tom wood jaguar was $519 dollars. no battery light on now. they said alternator was not the problem. think about going to walters unless your rich and don't care about money and getting your car fixed. read more
