Do Not Take Your Vehicle to Defouw Automotive! Defouw has undoubtedly provided the most horrendous customer service experience we've ever encountered with any business. They were negligent in diagnosing and repairing the vehicle, even after being specifically told which part to check. They misdiagnosed the vehicle on multiple occasions and returned it with the assurance that it was running reliably, only for it to break down each time. There were multiple instances of them reading the wrong ticket for other vehicles and refusing to communicate effectively. Additionally, they were misogynistic, conspiratorial, and extremely rude. They replaced the wrong part and refused to replace the necessary part as specified by the General Motors recall. They claim that service and diagnostic were refused, when, in fact, they were the ones who refused to work with the customer, stating that since the vehicle wasn't purchased from them, they didn't care. Service advisors are more than happy to go out of their way to intimidate customers to avoid being held responsible for Defouw's inadequacy. Additionally, they claim that all the issues resulting from their negligence were pre-existing, despite having no record of these issues during any of their inspections or any record showing that service was refused. I cannot under-emphasize their lack of due diligence, care, concern for customer experience, or professionalism. read more

I had a warranty repair (oil seal blew, towed vehicle in) on my work GMC Terrain, and the fleet company recommended Defouw Chevrolet. In talking with the service writer, I found out they also do fleet service. Great! I thought, as I need oil changes, etc. almost every month. When I picked up the vehicle, I was told that they replaced the seal and filled it with oil. Huh? It ran without oil for a short time. Nope, "It's all good." I started it up, and it ran really rough. I figured I would drive it and maybe it would settle down. I pulled out onto the street and the engine wanted to die. I ended up two-pedaling it around the block and it died when I pulled back into the service lane. Come to find out, it was repaired incorrectly and needed an engine overhaul (new pistons, rings, etc.). Would you go back there for an oil change? read more

I arrived at the tail end of their annual tent sale, with plans to "just look around" but I had done a lot of looking on line so I knew the price points. As soon as I walked up to the door a salesperson greeted me and we began the process of finding a car that fit my wants/needs. Early on, I spotted a 2020 Malibu that was priced nicely. I test drove the car and liked it even more, but I NEVER purchase on the first "look". I made an appointment with my sales person, Steve, to talk numbers the next day. The "add on" numbers were interesting and do-able but I wasn't ready to commit. For the next week we played phone tag and emailed, but couldn't meet on a final price for the actual car. I wanted a token effort of a price reduction, but Steve kept repeating, "With the tent sale price this low. I can't go any lower." He simply would not budge on the sticker price, at all, so I walked away. The next day, his associate, Grant, called and chatted with me. Grant cut me a VERY small "token" deal but it was enough of an effort to make me return to Lafayette and purchase the car. I certainly hope Steve bought Grant a drink, because without his intervention my new car would have been purchased at Kudick's Chevrolet. BUY FROM HERE: I don't write many reviews, but feel as though I need to do so for this facility. I bought a used car and was treated as a customer. Ronald was my salesman and Dan was the business manager. They were both excellent, very friendly, informative, and non-pushy. There is honestly nothing negative I can say. They didn't go back on their word when prices were discussed and it was time to sign documents. Ronald answered his personal phone to answer questions I had before purchasing on his day off. Also, when I bought the car I had to come back the next day. There are some dealerships where once you make a purchase from them they will do a 180, ignore promises, not answer calls, etc. (you can read all about them) but this WAS NOT the case.. do yourself a favor and do business with an honest dealer who actually does what they say, and has aggressive prices with customers driving multiple states over just to get them..don't waste time! read more

Brought my vehicle to Defouw's for what was ultimately thought to be an HMI module. The part was back ordered which was not their fault. After months it finally came in and they scheduled me for service. The day before they call and said their parts man had given away the part. Asked if that meant another months long wait? The next thing I know they supposedly got another in in two days. The "repair" was made. Of course, that did not fix the problem so they decided the first "repair" didn't work they would put another in. Guess what that made it worse. I am skipping over all the I will call you by such and such that never happened. Communication was absolutely horrible. They tried to get me to pay $300 on a part covered under warranty. I asked why when they said the warranty company would only pay so much. I called them and was told they never got any specifics so couldn't have rejected. Bottom line is do not get your vehicle serviced their unless you don't mind poor customer service, being lied to, all apparently with the endorsement of the owner. Finally was told I would be happier with another dealer and that turned out to be the only good advice I got from Defouw's. read more

The service perform was not very efficient; did not really keep updating new progress with me, I had to call them myself many times. During the repairmen the I have no car to drive, I requested few time for a rental car but they never gave me one, so I have to take bus everyday! Finally, when the vehicle was return, there was a new crack in my interior and without any explanation. I asked the service manager, he only replied me once saying their work had nothing to do with the crack and the crack was there for sometimes already.(which is impossible because I am sure there is no crack there before my car was rolled to the dealership and perform the repairs)Then when I requested further details the manager just ignored and never replied me! Btw, I am a 2015 corvette owner, and yea they even do that to my corvette. And offered zero assistance to me . I guess since I was just returning the car and not purchasing one I got treated like a second class citizen . He even questioned my choice in bringing the car there like I was some kind of criminal he was suspicious of. He snapped at me like a cranky dad yelling at an annoying kid . I had a really great experience with the service department at DeFouw Chevrolet. I drive a 2009 Saturn Vue (same body type as the Chevy Captiva) which was passed down from my mother to me. My mom is pretty tough on her cars, and after driving the vehicle for 18 hours straight, I realized it needed a little TLC. I scheduled an appointment to get an inspection and oil change, and DeFouw Chevrolet was very accommodating. I had a lot of work that needed to be done which the staff said would only take a few hours at the most, but it was easier for me to just leave the car overnight and pick it up the next morning. Being a college student needing to get back to campus, I utilized the shuttle service both to and from the dealership while my car was being serviced. The driver was friendly and conversational, and although he got a little turned around here and there because he is new to the area, I think that with time that will get better. After getting my car back, it feels like a whole new car. I needed a tire rotation, the alignment checked, a wiper replacement, and a couple other things done. The only thing that surprised me with my experience was that the wiper fluid wasn't checked during inspection. I received a new wiper on my back window, but was out of wiper fluid. I didn't know it at the time, so I didn't say anything when I was bringing the car in, so it wasn't a big deal. It just surprised me that that wasn't something that was caught during the car inspection or the wiper replacement. Overall, I am really pleased with the service that I received, and would recommend Defouw Chevrolet to a friend or colleague. read more

The service department had my work van in for an electrical repair. They said problem was corrected on day one. The van had the same issue immediately after leaving their shop ($257). Took it back the following day. Found a diagnostic code and replaced a module or some such. Van issues were not fixed ($370). I called the following day and asked if they could recommend an electrical specialist. They sent me to B&M and the short was hunted down and repaired for $230. If your mechanics are incapable of diagnosing a problem send your customer to a shop that can, BEFORE you do $600 worth of work that fixes nothing. read more

Last week we made an appointment with the service department to have an ECM programmed and installed. We were quoted $118 for programming and installation. We took our vehicle in, dropped it off and were called within the hour to be told we didn't get the right part (we did, they just didn't want to take the extra step needed to program/reflash). We picked up our car and our mechanic ordered another ECM that was specifically programmed to our make and model. We picked up the new part today, took it to Defouw and were told it would be $240 to do the EXACT same work as was requested last week. The man said it would take an extra hour to install the ECM. You can literally see it when you pop the hood and all you have to do is plug it in! We would do it ourselves but the ECM has to be programmed by the dealer or it will not work in the car. This place has a bunch of crooks and liars working for them. What a rip off! read more

Went to Defouw on August 30 around 3 PM filled out application and everything to get A loan and purchase a new Camaro SS. I waited till the next day late in the afternoon and still never heard anything back I noticed that they've put through at least 10 Applications to different lenders. I can see that on my Credit Karma and my credit score dropped three points. I went there that evening and Shane told me they sold 10 cars today that they were really busy and I didn't have time to look at mine. I waited one more day and didn't hear anything so I called up there and ask for their financial guy and he still didn't have an answer for me so I told them just cancel it I'll go somewhere else. I went to Champion Chevrolet of Avon the next day filled out an application within 10 minutes I had an approval on a brand new $40.000 2017 Camaro SS that I drove back home that evening. I even got there at 3 o'clock in the afternoon and I drove by brand new car home at six. The salesman David acted like a friend that I've known for a while. He had it detailed and even set up all the satellite radio the OnStar the Wi-Fi and everything. Very impressed and they were really busy to. The only thing I had to wait for is the line in the financial area because they were selling so many cars to do the final paperwork and it was worth it. I guess Defouw did not want to sell me a car. All I can say is don't judge a book by its cover. Just a follow up it's now February 15 and I still never heard anything from the Defouw Chevrolet. But I did get 4 letters from financial institutions saying that I have 60 days to use the approvals that they gave me credit on the a new car. I really don't understand why they didn't want to sell me a car at the Defouw Chevrolet. But it was my gain I got the car at a lower price from champion Chevrolet of Avon. On 3/23 my girlfriend and I went into Bill Defouw Chevy looking to trade in her vehicle. The dealership had reached out to her wanting to appraise the car and trade it in so we made an appointment to come in. When we arrived we walked into the main building and interacted with Andy McNeary. Not one second of the interaction was enjoyable for my girlfriend or my self. He treated us extremely poorly and with little respect. We are a younger couple but it's very unfortunate because she was 100% looking to purchase a vehicle that day. What makes it worse is she had previously worked with Chris Harrington and has had nothing but good things to say about him. After we basically had to persuade him to do the appraisal he couldn't get us out the door fast enough. We had asked if we needed to go over to the Pre-Owned center but he seemed like he could handle it. Once he gave us the appraisal he told us that Chris we be back later in the week and that we can just come back then. Absolutely ridiculous customer service. Didn't offer to show us some vehicles or even show interest in us what so ever. I would come back but only to see Chris Harrington. Andy McNeary on the other hand was nothing but arrogant and he knew we weren't there to buy a brand new $50,000 vehicle so he had no use for us. read more

I forgot to call to confirm I was visiting but he called back and checked in, and proceeded to have the car ready as soon as I arrived, waiting outside for me. He was completely honest throughout the entire buying process and very patient despite having to stay until nearly 10:00 p.m. to finish the deal. I bought a gently used Nissan Versa for relatively cheap compared to the BMWs and Chevys that they sell but I never felt like my business was any less valuable. Defouw Chevrolet is FOUL. I will never do business with them again. I made an appointment for an oil change/tire rotation that comes with a complimentary multi-point inspection, my front/back wiper blades to be replace and my complimentary car wash. I waited 2 hours before I asked about my car. I saw my car was sitting for completion and the guy who was suppose to be taking care of me(Jay) was not available. Another service guy(Brian) who was very apologetic assisted me, and then found out my car hadn't been washed. I asked about the inspection and they claim everything looks good, but with 64,000ml I wouldn't trust that. Two day laters I noticed my back wiper blade wasn't put on, but they charged me. I went back the following business day for them to greet me with the blade that I purchased. After all of this it was the wrong blade that they didn't have in stock, and it's pouring raining. Now I wasted over an hour for them to give me my refund. I should have went to the dealer in Illinois where I bought my car. Way better service. This one here in Indiana SUCKS!!! UGHH!!! Ok, since the last time, I had to edit my review which was 3.5 hrs ago. I changed my rating from a 1 to a 3, because the guy whi was very apologetic is the manager. I left because they took to long for the refund. Brian the manager called me and he explained to me that he was waiting for them to submit a check, and he offered me a free oil change. This is a review of their BMW "Dealership". I was sent there by BMW emergency assist when I experienced a flat on my run flat tire on the nearby freeway. Never in my life have I received poorer service from any establishment. One of the nice things about driving a BMW is the feeling of belonging to a club. I understand it was a Saturday and that their service dept. was closed. But I had an emergency and I was hoping for the teensiest bit of help. The Sales manager barely spoke with me. They were no help in offering me a loaner, my car is still in warranty. Only after pleading did he contact the off duty service manager to see if they had the tire in stock; They didn't, which is understandable. But offered me no help in any other way. BMW should be embarrassed to have them as a dealer. read more

I can not say enough good things about how we were treated and the service we received. While returning my daughter to college after winter break our Traverse began to run hot. I called them as we were driving to see if they would be able to service our vehicle. This was about 7 am. I was told they would do their best. When we arrived Jeff came out to meet us and explained he was the gentleman I spoke to on the phone. We gave our information, we were offered a vehicle to maybe go get something to eat. We decided to wait to see what the issue was with our vehicle. Unfortunately, it was the water pump. They needed a few hours to fix. This is the first time I have ever been to DeFouw Chevrolet BMW. I took my used Chevy Cruze in for diagnostic testing. I will start off by saying I had previously taken my car to two other shops one being a Certified GM shop and one not. I had gotten two different diagnosis. So I wanted DeFouw to tell me what was really wrong with my car. Jeff French waited on me and was very courteous and friendly. He advised me the waiting room was full and they were super busy. My daughter and I waited around a bit before walking across the street for lunch. While at lunch Jeff called to tell me what was wrong w my car. Which happened to be what the previous GM shop advised it was. I was quoted $390.00 to fix my car with Defouw and $180 at the other GM shop for the same diagnosis. I am not sure why such a huge difference. Had the price been comparable I would have given Defouw my business. When I did receive my car it was washed and they had performed a complete inspection of my vehicle. That is why they received 4 stars from me... I would consider returning if the prices were more comparable. read more

I purchased my Chevy cobalt brand new from there and let's just say when I started to have issues with my steering column under warranty I came in to get it fixed and they did very poor work and didn't fix it properly! , Which in the long run caused even worse problems now it will cost $1200.00 to fix a problem they didn't fix correctly under warranty. Very disappointed! My salesman was great and he did his job but the service is poor if you have a problem your vehicle, and they refused to admit it of course so I'm stuck with it now, I won't buy there again and definitely wouldn't take a car there for repairs! read more
