I've been in all the levels of ED care as an adolescent at walden from December 2015 to June 2016…read more Overall, I found it helpful, but each level is very different. IP (Alcott): Very unstructured and boring. Although the purpose of inpatient care is to stabilize behaviors and medical state, it washelpful. Everything that could be the least bit dangerous is locked up (sharps etc), so we were allowed to be in our rooms alone. We didn't have to go to groups if we didn't want to. This lack of structure led to me using a lot of ED behaviors while I was there-- purging and exercising in my room. I also hid my food during meals a lot. I think that if it had been a more positive, supportive environment, I wouldn't have gotten so much worse in there. Mealtimes sucked. The food was so gross. The staff didn't meal coach like they do in lower levels, but there were a few times when they made fun of how we ate ("eating bananas with forks? Is that what you guys do?" "If you have a wrap you have to eat it like a wrap"). Such a negative environment... When I got there, I quickly realized that I was the only one eating 100% and stopped doing that because it was like this unspoken competition of who was the sickest. If you don't finish your food t the end of the meal they give you Ensure. Barely anyone drank it, and almost everyone was on NG tubes, a first resort rather than a last one. The only good thing I got out of it was a new prescription... 2 stars. Residential: VERY helpful! It's located in an apartment building near the hospital. All the MHCs are caring and supportive. Very structured schedule with 3 groups a day. During free time, we could watch movies, do arts/crafts (they had a lot of great supplies), play games, etc. I enjoyed my time there and made a lot of progress. The food there is so much better than that in Alcott, too. I'd give it 5 stars. Partial hospitalization program: this was the level I originally started at. There are two meals, a snack, and 3 groups. The staff were, for the most part, helpful. PHP is when FBT (family based treatment) really starts. The adolescent program had your parents monitor meals at home and bring your food to program. There were family breakfasts and parent groups a few times a week. On Tuesdays, we had as challenge snack to practice fear foods, and on Thursdays, we had a "practice lunch" with fear foods. Pretty boring, but it was a supportive environment and somewhat helpful. 3.5 stars. IOP: it works on transitioning back to normal life, going from the meal plan to more normalized eating. One snack and dinner. Good staff. It was helpful as a support to maintain progress while going back to my life. 4 stars. Overall, I'm very grateful for walden. The structure of FBT is such that there's no way out of it other than complying with the meal plan and restoring weight. At first, I hated this, but now I'm able to think clearly and I feel strong and healthy. Ive come a long way since December and am doing rlly well :) I DO have a problem with the fact that they have no idea how to treat bulimia or binge eating, or if they do, they don't act like it. Something that disappoints me is that in IOP, there were two girls with binge eating disorder who had come straight from admissions without having been in treatment before. They were clearly struggling a lot and the level of support was not enough. I guess that if you're not underweight and anorexic, you don't need a higher level of care.....?

It was the medical care. Honesty is devoid from most nurses, except for one exceptional nurse, Alex. I had controlled seizures until I arrived. Patients start lining up at 6am for their 8am meds. I had 6 am meds, which I got around 7am. They asked if I wanted my 8am meds, but I declined out of respect for the waiting patients. They refused to give my seizure med at 2pm on my 1st day and after having a seizure in the day room. I suffer from Migraines and brought my meds. I was given one Mon The following Sat the on call Dr spent less than 1min with patients. I asked for my Relpax at 3am. The nurse couldn't find it. They tossed it because it was 3 weeks expired. I tried telling the on call Dr that I couldn't see She said Take off your sunglasses and walked away. I tried to tell her I had trouble walking She ignored me. Finally my assigned Dr came in and I was transported to Mass General lights and siren for stroke symptoms. All she had to do was call the med to CVS and a courier would bring it. The chief of neurology wrote Walden was to blame for the CVA! I was shocked. I was allowed one shower a week because I only have one hand. I asked to speak to higher ups to no avail. Please stay away. There's so much more like an employee refusing to show his ID, having to wake him most mornings while asleep with a blanket wrapped. I'm not a self harmer, yet they set 3 pairs of sunglasses on my nightstand and put all my panties in lock up. I dare someone to ask me to contact them. I tried when there. Don't sign their paper if you wish to leave you must give 48 hrs notice not counting weekends or holidays because you have essentially committed yourself. I seriously thought about a malpractice suit. I don't want to relive the stress.

At one point I was living in Plymouth but I would still drive to Cambridge to have a visit or two with her. I have always found Kyle to be very insightful and sincerely very caring, always leaving me with the feeling that I am glad she is my therapist and have made that connection with her. I have even gone for long gaps of not seeing her, sometimes as long as 10 years and the amazing thing is, when we've gotten together again, its like I saw her yesterday and I am always amazed at the things that she remembers, even the small things. I had an instance a few years ago where I had to get some help for a relative and a call to Kyle was the first one I made and she gave me the names of people to get in touch with to get my relative the help they needed. I can't say enough good things about her.

The intake process for low income insurance by default is socially irresponsible for anyone with a mental health condition. I'm a legally deaf adult who has become reliant on face communication. Christina Cudjoe is unfair and shouldn't be allowed to practice in Massachusetts. She interferes with patients getting the solutions to their healthcare needs. After a month, I messaged him in the patient portal--no response. I called his office in early July, and was given another "2 week estimate" I called again in August and was told "Dr Markey is taking the week off of appointments to work on the report and because yours is so late he will prioritize it--it should be in by the end of next week at the absolute latest." 3 weeks later and nothing. I spoke to them on Monday and was told that the receptionist had spoken to Dr. Markey and he guaranteed he'd have it in by "tomorrow afternoon." That deadline has now passed. You will be let down again and again by this practice. I genuinely hope for the wellbeing of others that no one goes to this doctor again. What kind of "mental health professional" makes their clients lives a living hell?

I probably would have…read morekept going for forever, but Daphne was honest enough to tell me that she thought I had reached the full benefit of the rolfing series. (However, she did invite me back for tune-ups in the future, whenever I feel like I need them!). Overall, my body feels much more elongated and looser. I actually gained an inch or two in height, and even my mom would be proud of my posture now. My core is straighter and clothes fit better. My shoulders are even, and my right shoulder (chronic bursitis from playing competitive tennis) feels so much better than it used to. I honestly haven't had any issues with my shoulder, IT band, or headaches for awhile, and I'm attributing it to Daphne's mad skills. I just feel... healthy. I highly recommend rolfing and Daphne to just about everyone. After a few sessions, you will feel great!

This review is based on my one experience for accupuncture only…read more So I had my my first experience with accupuncture yesterday! I had never done it before so have nothing to compare it to but think I can be objective about the service at Cambridge Health which was very good. My accunpuncturist (Marilyn) was friendly and thorough in her questions prior to beginning. Marilyn clearly believes in the medicine of accupuncture and helping people which got through some of my cynicism. She made me feel really comfortable and made sure I didn't have any questions or qualms before starting. I actually don't have any physical issues (knock on the old wood) aside from weak ankles from sports but it turns out that it's best to have accupuncture before you have problems as a preventive health measure. The needles did not hurt (a few stung for a second) and I could actually feel stirrings in my ankles from the needles in my scalp! The appointment lasted about 90 minutes but flew by. I am still not 100% sure about the powers of accupuncture but afterwards I had a feeling of euphoria akin to Peter in Office Space after hypnosis! I also had football practice that night and my previously sore left ankle felt pretty good. I know, it could all be in my head, but I really enjoyed the experience and made a second appointment. They are running a special right now- 50% off your first two treatments if you call before 9/15 so give it a try!
