I wasn't looking to do wine tasting when I pulled into the parking lot for Kitchen Kettle Village, but when I saw a wine tasting room I had to stop in! And I'm so glad I did. What a fantastic tasting! The employees were kind, welcoming, friendly, and knowledgeable. As they got to know what I liked to taste, they made great recommendations for what other wines I might like. I enjoyed EVERY wine I tasted! I've been to a lot of wineries throughout the U.S., and I don't think I've ever been able to say that about any other winery! The prices were also right (for the tasting, as well as for the bottles). One surprise for me was their apple wine - not at all overbearingly sweet as some apple wines can be. Served extremely cold, it reminds me of a mild cider crossed with a not-too-sweet wine. I took home a bottle to share with friends! The ambience is nice. The main level is the tasting bar in the middle, with fun wine-themed things to shop for around the perimeter. I did my tasting at the bar, and then took a glass of wine upstairs to a small loft where I could sit and relax. Because it's a loft, the conversations from downstairs traveled upstairs... so it was a tad noisier than I'd prefer. But I was very happy to sit for a while, enjoy good wine, and look out the windows. I don't remember there being any food options, but that was fine because I just went across the street for some lunch after my tasting. I'm eager to return! 12/22/2017 - After strolling around various shops at Kitchen Kettle Village, we decided to visit Waltz Vineyards Wine Shop. We walked in and saw two young women behind the counter. One was pouring wine for 2 customers and the other one was just sitting around. We asked the one sitting if we could do the tasting. She perked right up and informed us of the price, full flight $10 and what we would be sampling. We sat at the bar and were served six different wines. Two reds and two whites, a rose and their dessert wine. Of the whites that we were poured my favorite was the Sauvignon Blanc with notes of pear. Their Moscato was extremely sweet. I could see myself just sipping this as dessert itself. We sampled these crackers who looked like little pillows that taste like animal crackers....Delicious!. The reds were a bit dry but, I did enjoy the Barred Rock Red. The wines are on the pricier side. We enjoyed the tasting and were served by both ladies who were friendly. For a girl's weekend, we knew we had to make a winery a top priority on our hit list, and we opted for Waltz Vineyards Wine Shop due to the overall location, high reviews, and the vibe. The best bang for our buck was each opting for the "full flight" that was $10 only for 8 sips out of 10 that they were offering. A good combination of dry red and white wines, with some apple wine perfect for the season. Our host was really friendly, and sadly couldn't offer us a place to sit around the wine island, that was in the center of the store. We were okay with standing, but can see how popular this place is, even though we came closer to closing time. I would recommend coming earlier, so you can relax a bit more and not have people standing behind you, waiting to have their tasting in the spot you're currently occupying. My bestie and I dropped a considerable amount of money here, because the prices were very reasonable, and what makes a better holiday gift than the gift of wine?! I purchased two bottles and an adorable wine tag for about $60, whereas my girlfriend bought wine for her whole work team; clearly I want to be on her team. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and the space is designed rather well, to make spending your money fairly easy. Walk around and see what wines won what awards, and get something for yourself while you're at it! read more

The wine is fantastic and the associates are friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I came yesterday and had the red blend. I just had to return today to try the merlot and cabaret. I really enjoy this Bordeaux-style vineyard. Their wines fall off of the Pennsylvania wine scale, and are much better than PA's typical extremes. As of my review, they do still charge for the tasting even if you buy bottles which is surprising; however, everyone has margins and maybe they still need the revenue from the tastings or it isn't built into the price of the bottles. Or maybe not...either way I'm happy to shell out for the experience, but do wish they'd reconsider if customers are buying bottles. The tasting experience has been fun with courteous, informed and lively service. Environment is clean and has a beautiful granite/quartz countertop to enjoy...but alas no fancy vineyard views or other amenities to enhance guest experience at this tasting room. A great local wine selection with a knowledgeable staff!

Enjoyed a tasting at Waltz Vineyards during the Music for Everyone weekend celebration. It was pretty busy downstairs, but we were able to grab a table in the upstairs tasting room, where it was much quieter. We had a 6 glass tasting - three whites and three reds. Favorites were the Old Line Chardonnay and the Barred Rock Red, but no one at my table was particularly fond of the Fusion or Stiegel Rose. Whites The Sauvignon Blanc was really nice, and I'm loving all things grapefruit this year, so I thought this would be my favorite of the night, but the Old Line Chardonnay, with its apple finish won me over. Reds I like my reds on the sweet side, and this had some really great cherry notes. I tried the Baron Red, which has apparently won some impressive awards, but it was just too dry for me, even with a really great steak, I don't know that it would be my thing. The Barred Rock Red would go well with pizza. Or chocolate. Or just with a glass. I left with a bottle and the knowledge that I will return. Venue The wine shop is open with an upscale rustic charm. Everything is easy to get to, and the staff is friendly and helpful. The prices are a little steeper than I expected, but not completely outrageous. The upstairs tasting room was a little tighter than down stairs, but it was quiet and could make for a great private-party space. read more

The gift shop is full of adorable wine accessories and kitchen decor. I enjoyed the rosé. Especially that it was a dry rosé vs sweet. This winery has a different way of tasting. You do it at your table, at your own table, at your own pace. Bigger louder parties were in the barrel room so they did not disturb the quieter space parties thus allowing for a much more relaxed atmosphere. Beautiful views! read more

I came here randomly for the wine tasting. A group of us tried 6 wines- 3 red, 3 white for $10. The man behind the counter was super sweet and informative. Waltz was a wonderful place to stop during our day of exploring the area. The employees were very friendly and knowledgable about the wines and the area. We tried 6 wines for $10, and we were able to taste many different favor profiles. My husband liked the Sauvignon blanc the best and I liked the rose the best. We normally gravitate toward dry reds, but we were surprised to like lighter wines better! We even liked the oyster crackers (don't judge... they were different than your regular cracker). They told us that people can bring in their own food and enjoy a glass (or bottle) inside or on the patio. Of the four wineries/tasting rooms we visited while in PA, this one was the best in every respect. The staff were as helpful and friendly as their counterparts in most of the other places we hit, but the woman who poured our tasting had by far the best wine knowledge of any of the folks we dealt with on our trip. Also, if you're looking for wines that are made with the same sensibility and style that you'd find in a mainstream West Coast winery, this is where you need to head. Waltz wines are estate wines, and our hostess talked pretty intelligently about the resemblance between the microclimate their grapes are grown in and that of Bordeaux. That's actually not nuts; tool around Lancaster County on a nice summer day like we did and you might just think you're on the Left Bank (if it had been taken over by buggy-riding Huguenots). To their credit, they try to make their wines with Bordeaux grapes (you gotta play to your strengths, after all), with the reds revolving around Cab and Merlot and the whites around Sauv Blanc. They even take a stab at a white Bordeaux with a Sauv Blanc and Semillon blend, but they add Chardonnay, and it's fermented off-dry. On that particular wine, the sweetness is the bigger sin; I think they have the wine making chops to have produced a nice, crisp dry white with those grapes. They make a couple of stand alone Chards, too, both fermented dry. They have a nice off-dry rosé (.4% residual sugar, the least sweet of the bunch), and that's where sweetness did the most good, but in the off-dry wines we tried (one white, one red), the residual sugar didn't contribute anything to what was already very competent wine making. Bottom line: Though I can't lay claim to having tasted at anything more than a fraction of Pennsylvania wineries, this was the best by a solid margin. I'd also recommend it as a great place to get a bottle for dinner later if you're some nice, straightforward American or French food. read more

I was not impressed by the fact that they charge you $2 per taste at this wine shop. And they do not waive the taste charge even if you buy a bottle of wine. A bit lame considering there are many other wine shops/vineyards in the area who are happy to let you taste for free if you buy. read more
