What I mean is that Nickel Plate Arts is open for everyone to explore at their leisure, so visiting this place means entering houses, and climbing up stairs, and walking into real working artists studios. As in, real artists use these spaces to create their work, as is evidenced by the acrylics and paintbrushes and easels that are left out in the open for you to see. I'm kind of surprised that people like me are just allowed to tour this place, but that's what makes it so special: it's like you're getting a behind-the-scenes tour of an artist's daily life. In some of the rooms, the artists' artwork is displayed with price tags, if the mood strikes you to buy something. There is one person chilling at a table in one of the buildings, next to a table of complimentary coffee and tea, so I'm thinking this is the person you give your money to when you want to buy something. It's all very relaxed and zen, if you want to know the truth. It's like, here is a place to view beautiful art: come and look upon it for free and without any guidance. Now, this is my experience of Nickel Plate Arts during a casual Saturday afternoon -- I'm sure it's different when they have gallery openings and such. I also saw flyers lying about for different events that are held here. There is also a Little Free Library outside one of the buildings, which is awesome.

However I really took my time looking around at all the absolutely beautiful selection of merchandise. I think it is the best possible place to get an Indiana Artisan Made item hands down. They have an unbelievable selection and a good price point range as well. Since I had been last they have an Artisan Mohair Bear Maker and his work is incredible! I am quite enamored with a few of them! They are many, many items to choose from. Parking can be a little tricky with Carmel's constant construction but please consider going; it's certainly worth walking a bit to get to!

There are walls on wheels that provide flexibility on how the space is used. Some events (workshops, dance lessons) are already scheduled to take place at the gallery.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that not only was the owner very down to earth, but he was willing to work with me on price so that it was too. He sent it out to me the day after I paid just like he said he would do. Everything was well-packed and the piece was exactly as it appeared in the listing (only prettier in person lol). So I wound up with a gorgeous rig that also more than ticks my function boxes, when I really thought it was going to be out of my grasp going in. Lesson learned, never hurts to ask. Worst anyone can really do is say no, or maybe in some cases insult you; luckily this was a much more knowledgeable/professional person to deal with. Limited edition prints are the hot potatoes at this gallery. Painters commission printers to do limited edition prints, which the artist will then sometimes sign. Editions Limited has a limited edition print of Dali's "Angel of Alchemy," which the artist has hand-signed and embellished himself. It now sells at the gallery for around $13,000. You'll also find some local artists in a similar surrealist style, but not always; in the adjoining frame shop, a work by an undoubtedly local artist depicts The Colts running to victory.
