Decided today to have lunch at War Eagle Mill. Had their beans and cornbread plus coleslaw. The beans were served in a good size tinware bowl. No skimping on the amount of food. There was more than enough to satisfy. Their menu isn't limited to just beans. They have a good variety of sandwiches also. The Pecan Cobbler was really good. Educational, fun, beautiful, cutest little shop, and a small dinner on the top floor! The goats are a must, and the bathrooms are outside. Not very ADA friendly so be mindful when planning a trip to see it. Go over the bridge so you can see the full experience! And the soft caramels are delicious. read more

How long can you hold your breath while you are peeing? No, seriously, how long? It is all about the drive not the destination. Whether you come in from the north or south, if you are a biker or sports car enthusiast, you will enjoy the winding curves. As a bonus the scenery is amazing. Right now, after all the rain the Arkansas hills are lush, green and decorated with Ozark life, past and present. Rusty trucks, tractors, chickens and ducks. Big red barns, fields of hay, cows and white tail bucks. Pristine streams, roadside fruit stands, rickety old bridges and littered road sides, where lazy folks dump their broken washers and fridges. And then you arrive at the famous, but disappointing War Eagle Mill. A three-story hull of an old grist mill that has been gutted of all of the historical significance. Not a visible grind stone spinning. No bolter, screens, chutes or hoppers. All gone. On the top floor beans and cornbread for sale. The second floor, candy and the first-floor souvenirs for the tourist. Lots of stuff, much having nothing to do with the historical mill. On the first floor is a modern corn grinder, that may be powered by the still turning water wheel. That's it, that's the mill. The mill is very well known for its annual craft fair. I am not sure how they handle all of the people. And that brings us back to the strange question. How long can you hold your breath while peeing? Unless you are a very experienced Japanese pearl diver the answer is, "not long enough." For your convenience and relief, at the gravel parking area there is a homemade outhouse, a pit toilet. It is a very poorly designed outhouse pit toilet. In the 90-degree temp today it was the worst, most rank, malodorous steaming closet I have ever used. The flies that were lured into the outhouse in hopes for a tasty meal, misjudged the conditions. They couldn't take it either. Hundreds were lined up on the inside of the outhouse door, desperately waiting to escape when the door was opened. Hold your breath and try to keep that beans and corn bread from spewing out through your nose. If you are going, start practice holding your breath now. And....Remember it's the drive not the destination. read more

The atmosphere is awkward because there is no music and it is very quiet. The menu is limited and overpriced. Hamburgers were the special, yet they only had one bun in house so the other sandwiches were served on white bread. Honestly, I would plan to eat elsewhere if I was heading out this way. read more

First time in Arizona? I got you. Cross the bridge. Make sure no one else is driving through. Wifi might drop while you cross the bridge and will resume once you leave and make the turn back out. The cafe Check the time as they stop serving cornbread once the cafe closes. It's definitely worth going to. The shop is quiet small so don't expect a lot inside. I went 50 minutes before closing and the ladies closed the shop 20 minutes before it closed. Be mindful of that. read more

The store was cute and had alot if not all local items and the mill itself is cool to visit and peacful. But don't plan to eat here. Finally made it here to eat, I have shopped here and been here to take pictures but have never eaten. Up on the 3rd floor of the mill, it is an open restaurant with a country charm feel. We were greeted quickly and took our drink order. The menu is very simple for lunch, 3 sandwich options and a few salads and soups. I had the turkey club with potato salad. The wheat bread was very fresh and excellent flavor. The meats were very good as well. The potato salad was very good. We also had the peach cobbler and it was very good, not overly sweet. The mill is open 7 days a week, from 9am to 5pm. The War Eagle Mill is the last working grist mill in Arkansas and is believed to be the last undershot mill in the country. An undershot mill is where an undershot water wheel is powered by the running water under the wheel and not over, The grist mill separates the grain from its chaff and makes whole grain flour. There are few undershot mills left because in order to function, they must be built very close to the water level , in the bed of the river. Because of this, many of them have been washed away over the years. To this day, the mill grinds flours and corn meals. They also have other products like rye, oats, flax, buckwheat, white and yellow corn meal, and cereals. Make sure to eat upstairs while you're there too! read more

We were here long ago in the last century so way overdue for return visit. Once we saw beans and corn bread we had a lunch plan. Not for those with mobility issues (cane/walker, etc) as restaurant is on third floor. Gift shop is on 1st floor and there is a ramp. Try their signature pinto beans and corn bread. They also offer 1/2 sandwich and cup of beans. Both are good. And shop the first floor for gifts and mill products. Suggest stop here for lunch and go to War Eagle Cavern nearby to walk it off. We had been to War Eagle Mill six years ago and at that time it was an operating mill with a nice little restaurant with pretty good food served at tables. We were surprised when we arrived that there were hardly any visitors. We had to wait and had trouble finding parking six years before. New owners took over around a month ago and now the third floor is an "antique museum". On the second floor food is still served but it's served in plastic to go containers that can be eaten there, taken outside or to go home with. We got the ham and beans with cornbread. The beans did have a lot of flavor. On the first floor they sell a lot of preserves, flour, cups, aprons, etc... Unfortunately, War Eagle Mill gave us more of a feel of a "tourist trap". Overpriced goods with minimal effort. It was a beautiful drive to get there and the history behind the mill is interesting. Just don't be misled by their website, it must not have been updated since the new owners took over. read more

Our family drove up to the Mill from Fayetteville for lunch this weekend. We didn't realize that the Mill had new owners and were sadly disappointed to learn that the old third-floor restaurant was no longer in operation. The new "restaurant" had few options, most of which were priced higher than the meals on the old menu. Seating on the second floor is minimal and couldnt accommodate the number of people who kept arriving; there's still seating on the third floor, but most people didn't realize it. Service left a lot to be desired -- one family member ordered soup in a bread bowl and waited 20 minutes before finally having to ask for another menu item. In short, the new owners would be wise to bring back the old third-floor restaurant with the old menu. Until they do, we'll stay away. read more

Friends of ours from Indiana came here for lunch the other week and the food was great !! The veggie burger was fantastic and the cornbread is so good you won't be able to stop thinking about it. The waitress Kat and Jess were so nice and had such a good attitudes that it was the top thing that I remembered about this restaurant. Last week we took a homeschool field trip to see the mill led by Jess. She was so patient and she and Peter seemed so truly interested in the actual mill and process that they made us all appreciate it even more. Their jams are sooooo good. We bought the grape one. My wife and I have been going to the mill for years but lunch yesterday did it for us. We're done. As others have mentioned the restaurant has changed. It's now on the second floor has a limited menu which is very expensive (kid's PB&J for $6? Really?) The high school kid at the counter was texting when we walked up and kept texting while we stood waiting. He looked up at us and went back to texting. Finally he put his phone down and looked at us without a word. He could not have been more ambivalent. We ordered beans and cornbread with iced tea. He texted while he spooned the beans out of a warmer and put some cornbread on the plates and handed them to us without a word. There are only two tables on the second floor for communal sitting. No one was cleaning them off and the trash was overflowing. The food was served in styrofoam plates with plastic utensils, and the iced tea was pre-bottled. The whole vibe was that they're hanging on by a thread and I can see why. The beans had a strange sour taste and we both commented on how bad they were. It was a bad experience from start to finish and we couldn't wait to get out of there. Unless someone tells us they've changed management we'll not be back. It's a shame too. read more

War Eagle Mill is an actual working mill. The water wheel still runs all of the equipment inside of the mill. A very nice & informative employee told us about the flood that hit the mill two years ago and how it was restored & remodeled. They have the mills history on display on the first floor, and a store. There is a restaurant on the 3rd floor but we got there to late. *They close at 4pm*. So we will have to make another trip to try it. The surrounding area is beautiful and there is a old timie one car wide bridge. read more

We come to Eureka Springs every year for vacation. We decided to take my Mother in law who is 90. We had a great time. Purchased some t shirts from Staybright Tiedyes. Also, we visit the Hawaiian Hammock Chair place the chairs or great and Chirs and his wife are great! Need to buy one and see for your self. but, this festival you need to come and check out. From Thursday till Sunday! Lots to see and do and eat. A must see craft show. Lots of crafts, art, hand made crafts, every thing you can think of. Highly recommend. read more

The food was ok. We went for lunchtime. The restaurant is located on the third floor. There is a gift shop and mill on the first two floors. We had cornbread and bean soup and a veggie burger. The cornbread tasted really good, but the veggie burger could have been better. It tasted ok. It came with chips and a pickle. The location is great. It was all green around and it looked beautiful. You could also play in the water if the weather is good :) Overall, a decent place to enjoy nature. It is also close to Hobbs State Park trails. So if you plan to visit the state park, you could plan for a whole day out here. read more

To begin with, according to their website they open at 9am but that's changed to 10. And it does say 10 in Yelp. When a good sized crowd was able to get into the building we went to the second level where we were told there is no restaurant or buffet (this was on a Sunday). It is grab and go to take to the 3rd level and eat. The grad and go consisted of biscuit and gravy from a mix. They also had beans and cornbread. That's it. I had a biscuit and gravy and a bowl of beans. $11.84. Beans were not bad-pretty salty but for what I got definitely not worth it Went downstairs after eating and the gift shop seems like any other gift shop. Maybe the mixes were made there but even so nothing else seems to be. Suggest you go for the history and not the food read more
